The Haunted Trashcan

Been Away Far Too Long...

2011-08-14T16:06:00.000-07:00

I drew this little brujita admiring her Homunculus while sitting on the moon, and then thought she might make a nice logo mascot for my budding honeybee business. So I changed her up a little bit...

Good Girls are Bad Girls Who Haven't Gotten Caught...

2011-05-01T14:35:00.000-07:00

Happy Walpurgis! Here is a little drawing I have been working on just for practice. She'd make a good Disney bad girl, I think.

Something New - Burned an Image into a Beehive of Mine...

2011-03-28T22:07:00.000-07:00

I burned this image of the Mayan Bee God, Ah Mozen Cab, into one of my hives. I plan on doing this to most of my others. This is a direct copy from an old Mayan Codex. Only the Mayans could take something seemingly innocuous like bees and honey and make it creepy.

Spooky Girl with Owl

2011-03-28T22:01:00.000-07:00

This is hard to explain - It's not who you would normally think it is.

The Steel Fish

2011-02-10T20:00:00.000-08:00

After watching the movements of fish for 5 years, the good doctor's ungainly steel fish was dropped into the Abyss. His steel fish was never seen again, lost to the deep, dark, depths. Some speculate he became lost in the vast network of caves theorized to connect the Mexican Gulf with America's West Coast...

Step #2 complete...

Watercolor sketch done, on to the next step.

Next in Line for a Full Painting

2011-01-24T12:11:00.000-08:00

This city scene is my next up for a full painting.

The Future of War

2010-12-28T21:18:00.000-08:00

During the wars of the Fall of Man, a hideous new weapon was unleashed. Vast clouds of nano-tech micro-soldiers were carried into battle by artificially engineered bio-soldiers, indistinguishable from natural humans. The AI controlling these soldiers understood that humans could be put off guard by using emotions and morality, so these soldiers were all in female form to add to the deception. In the end, they crushed their opponents, and the Earth was swept clean of the old humanity.

A Pale Horse...

2010-12-18T23:23:00.000-08:00

A little info about my usual drawing process...
It is very ritualistic, I always do it while seated, wearing headphones attached to my mp3 player. The music is almost always the same - dreamy and sort of psychedelic. I normally do not have a goal in mind and after a few minutes of sitting there with the music going, totally alone, the subject just sort of pops out. Almost like a sort of drawing trance, if you will. I never quite know what will result. That is how this horse came into existence. Not sure what it means, if anything. Who draws a gutted spectral horse for fun? I guess I do.

A New Twist With my Occultish-Bizarro art...

2010-12-10T20:44:00.000-08:00

I decided to try something a little different. Aiming for a sort of "old" look, sort of like what you would find if you found a page from an old creepy book or grimoire, I did a few drawings on aged parchment.

A quick sketch...

2010-12-02T22:36:00.000-08:00

When the fight was over, I turned and looked at her in the vanishing daylight. To my tired eyes, she had the aura of a wrathful Dharmic spirit, intent on conquest...

GuanYin and Lung Nu

2010-11-19T21:46:00.000-08:00

Another story of the mythical Kwan Yin, only this time from a different perspective, and a slightly different name...

One of the sons of the Dragon King, was caught by a fisherman while transformed into the guise of a fish. He was transported to land, where he could no longer assume his true dragon form. Hearing his cries and taking pity on the stranded beast, GuanYin sent one of her disciples to attempt a rescue. After a lengthy fight with a mob over the ownership of the fish, which did not die even after hours of being out of the water (which caused quite a stir), GuanYin herself intervened and saved him. She released him back into the sea, and he promptly transformed back into a dragon. As a reward, the Dragon King sends his granddaughter, Lung Nu to present GuanYin with the Pearl of Light, a jewel from which light perpetually shone. Lung Nu is awed by GuanYin, and becomes her follower. GuanYin gives back the Pearl of Light, instructing Lung Nu to keep it.

Kwan Yin

2010-11-10T18:44:00.000-08:00

Kwan Yin - The Buddhist / Taoist Goddess of Compassion. She is pictured pouring her holy waters of compassion into the world to help mankind. Stories of her origin vary, indicating she is a very ancient figure in Asia, having been absorbed into several Asian religions. The Buddhists say she is an aspect (or wife) of Avalokiteshvra or Kannon, the male deity who fills her role for the Tibetan and Japanese Buddhists. In their religion, she delayed her Buddha-hood so she can stay behind on Earth to help end the suffering of Man.

The Taoists say she was a royal princess whose beauty incited jealousy and caused her execution. She ended up in the Hellish plane of the dead, and her beauty inspired the growth of lovely plants and creatures causing the land of the dead to become a paradise. This got her kicked out by the Lord of the Underworld, so she stayed on the Earthly plane to help save the unfortunate souls of suffering mankind.

She is seen in Japan as being both Male and Female, and is known as Kanon (Yes, this is what the camera company is named after). She serves as a protectoress of the unborn and the afflicted of Humanity, and once again serves the purpose of ending the suffering of Mankind. She holds the distinction of also being seen as a manifestation of the Catholic Virgin Mary.

Kwan Yin - Another One in Progress...

2010-11-10T09:13:00.000-08:00

Here is another picture I am working on. In a few days I hope to have background and colors added. I will have the back story too. As a teaser, I will say her name is Kwan Yin, a prominent Buddhist/Taoist deity.

A Bottle Tree

2010-10-28T20:30:00.000-07:00

In the old South, it was said that if you hung bottles on a tree, evil spirits would get trapped in them at night, being killed by the sunlight from the rising sun.

This is a painting I did quite a while back, but has never really seen the light of day. Here it is, for all to see...

It is a rather dark painting, and the camera definitely does not do it justice. It has a few small highlights I might still add, but it is basically finished.

Several steps closer to being done...

2010-10-24T15:22:00.000-07:00

A few little things left.

On the Drawing Board, so to speak...

2010-10-07T22:46:00.000-07:00

I don't normally post images of my paintings, but here are a couple I am working on. The camera does not do them justice, as the colors are quite vivid to the eye. It seems to dull everything quite a bit in the digital image.

This is based on the earlier drawing about the snake city. It has quite a way to go before it is finished, but a good start has been made.

This one I haven't really figured out yet. It seems sort of lacking and bleak to me as the subject is sort of vague, but the psychedelic sky and mountains are very eye catching, at least in person. Hang this hideous beasty on your wall, and you are sure to be noticed. I will call it finished if I ever figure out some sort of something to put on it for closure. The digital camera simply cannot pick up the truly fluorescent hues of the original, and how it works the optic nerves.

The Snake Factory

2010-10-05T23:02:00.000-07:00

Floating high in the Bio-ether of the Hollow Earth, a surreal sight was spotted. Upon closer inspection appeared to be a small city, half alive and vaguely reptilian. It had great belted wheels, forever spinning... what infernal product it creates is unknown to man. All attempts to make a landing were met with showers of arrows and great jets of steam issuing from the rocky crags, with no sight what-so-ever of it's strange defenders.

Note: This is a small sketch of a larger painting I am working on.

The Spawning

2010-08-24T21:29:00.000-07:00

It is said, in the depths of Pellucidar, strange half-human creatures propagate. Their spawn becoming soldiers in a vast army that will burst forth from the center of the Earth, and unleash destruction upon mankind. No living man has ever seen one and lived, as they gush forth toxic vapors during the infernal gestation. Humans who foolishly venture into the cavernous entrance to our Hollow Earth are usually never heard from again. The ones who do, half crazed and mad with fright, tell tales of the breeding chambers of tall, winged human-beasts belching forth sulfurous clouds of choking gas.

Or then again, maybe it is all just the raving of lunatics...

The Lady From Shanghai

2010-08-08T22:59:00.000-07:00

This is based on an old Rita Hayworth movie poster - a Film Noir classic called Lady From Shanghai.

I really dig the quote.

The Gyro Girl

2010-05-26T13:18:00.000-07:00

OK, I did this because I have been having some heavy discussions with a friend about actually purchasing one of these little spinning death machines for me to kill myself with. In honor of this, I figured a picture of my future killer would be in store. I want one that looks like this one.

And I added the girl just because everything is better with a girl...

Told you more was coming, but you didn't believe me...

2010-05-25T21:28:00.000-07:00

I have had a really busy month, and finishing up drawings has been a bit at the bottom of my list. At any rate, here is an interesting little offering for you. This is one of those drawings I do spontaneously, that I don't really know what they will be until I finish them. Some drawings I plan out, but others, like this one, just come to me.

It sort of looks like Aeolus, the old God of wind you see in the corner of really old maps and stuff. I drew it with pen and ink, colored it with marker, then digitized it, using Photoshop to round it out. Yes, some if it is a little cheesy, but this drawing has potential for a whole series just like it.

Stay Tuned...

2010-05-18T09:17:00.001-07:00

I have some pics to post, honestly... I have just been really busy.

Final Drawing - Palden Lhamo

2010-04-10T21:18:00.000-07:00

Here is the final inked image of the earlier Palden Lhamo picture. Compare it to the earlier digital drawing if you wish. Sort of a modern-ish Thangka drawing.

The Great Protector of Lhasa

2010-04-08T17:12:00.000-07:00

Palden Lhamo is a very important figure in Tibetan Buddhist mythology. One of Buddhism's Wrathful Deities, she fills the role of mother and protector of the Tibetan capital, Lhasa, and even serves as the personal protector of the Dalai Lhama himself.

She rides a white mule, on top a saddle-blanket made of her own son's skin. Her red lips are stained with human blood she drinks from the skull in her hand. Around her waist, she is adorned with a belt of human skulls.

Here is the story, more or less...

At one time, she was a great Queen in Lhasa, and faithful to the great Buddha. Her husband, the King, was not. He trained their young son to serve as the destroyer of Buddhism in Tibet when he grew older. She could not take the atrocities committed by the king and especially her son, whom she killed in a fit of rage. She flayed his body and used his skin as a saddle-blanket. The king fired an arrow at her as she fled on her mule, but it stuck in the beast's rump. When she pulled the arrow out, an eyeball formed, serving to warn her of danger or harm with it's ever watchful gaze as she became the great protector of the Buddhist faithful.

She bears striking similarity to some aspects of the Hindu Sri Devi, and especially the great Destroyer of Demons, the black Kali, who serves many of the same functions for Hinduism.
