A Level in Nepal was started very early, almost 20 years back, and is very helpful to the students of Nepal. however these days it is not as popular as it is expected. it could be the best option to choose by the young, SLC passed students. there is very good opportunity and carrier making chance in studying A Level.

I prefer the students to take A Level education to build up the carrier in better way. but these days the market is saturating day by day. there are around 1500 students studying A Level at the current time.

I just find that there are many benefit in a level which is lacking behind in +2. we can easily get admission in the universities abroad before result and there is maximum chance of scholarship. but in +2 we must wait for the result.

similarly A Level result will be very early than of +2 so that A Level students can talk forward them self 6 month than that of +2 student. So why not going for A level.

· Objective of Saipal A-Level

The objective of SAIPAL A level is to create an environment that would facilitate extensive learning opportunities and enable each individual to complete at home and abroad.

· Criterion of Saipal A-Level

Students who wish to pursue A Levels at Saipal Academy must have appeared in the SLC examinations or hold equivalent degrees (O level, CBSE or equivalent) to be eligible for their admission.

Candidates will be offered admission based on the admission committee’s assessment of the prospective students’ past academic performance, performance in the entrance examination, interview and ability to contribute to the program.

· Enrollment procedure

1. Agriculture

Agriculture being the mainstay of the national life and economy has received due attention of the planners and due emphasis in the field of education, too. It is offered as an elective subject from the secondary school level and universities offer excellent undergraduate and graduate programs in Agriculture and Agricultural Science and Technology as given below:

2. Animal Science

12. Journalism and Mass Communications

The press and the electronic media of mass communication - radio and television - in fact not only inform and entertain the people but also shape and influence the public opinion and thereby the governmental plans, actions and social changes. The unprecedented development in information technology has added a new momentum to their organizational growth and newer dimensions to their functional expansion and efficiency. Hence, the press and the electronic media today offer challenging and even financially quite lucrative career openings to creative young men and women with university degrees in journalism or/and mass communication. 14. Medicine and Health Sciences

A wise old man who harbored much suspicion about allopathic drugs, on being taken to the Arya Ghal (shelters for the dying people beside the funeral ghats on the banks of the Bagmati river in Kathmandu), whispered in excruciating pain to his friend, "God gave us life but it is the white-coat angels who help us save it and maintain it till he takes it away from us." The dying old man's admission says it all about the role and significance of medical and health sciences. However, it is not an easy sail to the world of medicine.

Apart from being promising as well as prestigious as a career, medicine is a very demanding discipline.It is also very costly and time consuming. Committed 10+2 science graduates should prepare themselves for a tough competition for entry into the medical programs of any good college, be it of the national or foreign university.

The Ministry of Education, HMG/Nepal and some foreign mission like the Indian Embassy, Chinese Embassy and the Embassy of Bangladesh facilitate the entry procedures for Nepali students by conducting selection interviews orand entrance examinations here in Kathmandu. 15. Religious Studies:Buddhism and Hinduism

If Nepal has the distinction of being the only Hindu Kingdom in the world, this tiny Hindu nation also prides itself in being the birthplace of Lord Buddha, the Apostle of Peace. It is thus natural that religious studies should form an integral part of the way of life of the people in Nepal. 16. Rural Development

Nepal is a country of villages and hamlets with over 4000 village development committees, each VDC comprising two or more similar villages hamlets officially called wards, as compared to the meager number of 58 municipalities. Hence, any development work in Nepal can be said to have materialized only when its impact is palpably evident on the life style of the hardy people inhabiting the sparsely populated hamlets of the northern Himalayan region, the agrarian communities living off the eroding terraced walls and the large human settlements of the southern Terai. Rural development, therefore, has now caught the attention of the donors, NGOs and INGOs, too, and can offer excellent career opportunities to young men and women with an aptitude for and educational qualifications to match with social service and development work.

The Tribhuvan University currently offers a two-year Master's Program in Rural Development (MA-Rural Development) at the central campus and plans to introduce Bachelor's Level courses in the near future.

Gender issues have in the modern times gained prominence in every aspect of life including academics. Leading universities are split over whether to use the A*. Among the Russell Group, Cambridge has made A*AA its standard offer in most subjects, while Imperial has requested it in seven courses, UCL in four and Warwick in one.

But some top universities including Leeds have declined to use the A* this year, partly because of fears that private schools will perform disproportionately well. Oxford has declined to use it because of concern about the accuracy of teachers' predictions.

In 2009, more than 50% of A -levels taken by privately educated pupils scored an A compared with 20% of those in state schools, widening the gap in achievement between the sectors.

Today's results are the last A-levels to have been taken, in part, under a Labour government that came to power promising to transform education.

The rise in the pass rate over the last three decades has prompted concerns that A-levels have got easier while candidates' abilities have remained the same.

Research at Durham University has found that a candidate who would have got a C two decades ago would get an A now.

The study by Dr Robert Coe found that "candidates of comparable ability are being awarded higher grades each year, both at A-level where the trend has been consistent and substantial since 1988, and at GCSE."

The research was based on comparing A-level grades over the years with scores for tests that looked at general ability rather than curriculum knowledge.

Coe said it could be that exam performance had improved; there was more focus on preparation and schools were being more selective about who sits exams. Changes such as coursework or modules made it easier for today's candidates to shine with the same quality of work as in previous years, he said.

Meanwhile, Britain has slipped in comparison with other countries.

According to a respected international study, the OECD's Pisa survey, the UK fell from fourth in the world for school science in 2000 to 14th six years later. It slipped from 7th to 17th for reading and eighth to 24th in maths. The findings were based on independent tests of children's ability.

Subject options in A-LEVEL in Nepal

Advanced Level courses provide a firm foundation to students entering into the university or the college for their future studies. Wide range of subjects available at A Level gives the students an opportunity to make a subject combination of their own reflecting their field of interests, potentials and career perspectives.

College of Nepal offers all the major subjects required for entry into medical, engineering, management and humanities streams.

Subjects offered at Nepalese colleges are as follows:

A student must take a minimum of four subjects including General Papers. General paper substitutes for English Language and is compulsory.

The Cambridge International Examination (CIE) and the British Council Nepal jointly awarded the title of ‘Brilliance in Nepal’ to students who appeared in Advance (A) and Advance Subsidiary (AS) levels exams amidst a function in the capital Tuesday.

Vice-President Parmananda Jha, the Country Director of the British Council Ewan Davies, CIE representative and Country Manager of South Asia Ian Chamber gave away the CIE certificates to 26 examinees taking the A and AS CIE level examinations in June and November 2008.

Addressing the function, Vice-President Jha urged the students to utilise their talents and skills for the nation after receiving higher education. Jha said that the future of the country lies in the hands of such talented students.

"The country should also respect and recognise their potentiality," Jha said.

Abhimanyu Chhetri of Chelsea International School and Anoj Shahi of King’s College became the world toppers in the Cambridge International AS level held in June 2008. Chhetri and Shahi topped in the subjects of General Paper and Mathematics respectively.

Risav Karna from Kathmandu Saipal Academy became world topper in Cambridge International AS level exams held in November 2008.

Similarly, Shristi Pandey, Rato Bangala School topped in Nepal across any three Cambridge International A levels and one Cambridge International AS level in June 2008.

Likewise, Vijay Kumar Thapa, Cosmos International College, Pokhara, Gwyneth Hodgins, The British School, Kathmandu, Anoj Shahi, King’s College, Stephanie Vel En Tial, The British School, Kathmandu and Jonathan Daniel Handali, Kathmandu International Study Centre respectively topped in their individual subjects in Computing, Psychology, Chemistry, Physics, Art and Design and Business Studies that held within the Nepal. They had topped CIE AS level exams that held in June 2008. Shahi had also topped in physics too.

In the A level CIE exams category, Pratham Raj Joshi, Kathmandu Malpi Institute, Rosie Hogg, The British School, Kathmandu, Roma Aryal, Rato Bangala School, Shristi Pandey, Kritish Rajbhandari, Budhanilkantha School, Kritish Rajbhandari, Budhanilkantha School, Biswa Giir, Rato Bangala School, Pranab Acharya, Kathmandu Malpi Institute, Narendra Raj Regmi Budhanilkantha

School and Gokuleshwor Pokharel, Budhanilkantha School respectively topped in their individual subjects-- Computing, Psychology, Sociology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Accounting, Business Studies, Economics and Mathematics. The CIE exams of these examinees were held in June 2008.

Similarly, the exams that held on November 2008 under AS level, Shama Pandey, Rato Bangala School, Risav Karna, Kathmandu Saipal Academy, Manish Jung Thapa, Chelsea International Academy, Sujesh Shrestha, Kathmandu Academy, Birju Kumar Shah Kalwar, Kathmandu Saipal Academy and Khusboo Rana, Kathmandu Malpi Institute had respectively topped in their respective subjects--- General Paper, Computing, Biology, Accounting, Economics and Mathematics.

At the function, President of Cambridge Educators of Nepal (CEAN) Sudhir Kumar Jha, Ewan Davies, and Ian Chamber also made their remarks about the A-level education.
