1. I like to stay up late blogging. Well, like is not quite true but staying up late is a habit I can't seem to break.

2. I love to play video games with my children. Well, mainly my sons when they let me join them. Ya, you are never to old to enjoy a good video game.

3. I do not like bananas, watermelon, or spaghetti.

4. I love mowing the lawn. Even with a push mower.

5. I keep chocolate in the house just for emergencies. You know like when I am cranky.

6. I like to grill even in the winter. I like to grill but, I never said I am good at grilling.

7. When I cook I tend to burn what ever I am cooking unless it's dessert.
8. I enjoy gardening. I do not have a green thumb, It's more like a yellow wilted thumb.

My father is getting really old, and he is so stubborn. I would really like it if he would come and live with my husband and I, but he refuses. We have also talked to him about going to a retirement community, but he doesn’t want to do that either. We know he is in good shape for his age, but we worry about him being all alone in that big house of his. If something happens to him, it might take us hours to find out. We’re also scared that he might be targeted for theft because of his age. My husband and I checked out http://www.homesecurity101.com/ and then tried to convince dad that a home alarm system was a good idea for him. He was hesitant, but finally agreed to let us install it if we paid for the monthly service. I am so happy he finally agreed to one of our suggestions. I was really starting to feel like a terrible daughter. At least now I’ll have some peace of mind knowing that if anything goes wrong the police will be called out.

I am so excited to say I have been given an opportunity to review the most adorable child's apron! As you all know I love cooking, baking and crafting with my grandchildren. Well, now I have an adorable apron for my granddaughters to use when we are doing what we do best. I do have a plain cotton apron for my grandchildren to wear which is not water proof. Pooh Bear has a water proof paint smock that he wears when crafting but he does not like the sleeves at all. So, this apron is positively welcome in my home.
Let me tell you a little about the product and Buy Cute Aprons. First the shipping was very fast considering the package was shipped internationally from the UK. When I received the package Pooh Bear was thrilled to help open the package. He kept repeating "For me?"I had to explain he could open the package but that he would have to share this with his cousins.

Once the package was open Pooh Bear exclaimed a present and his eyes lit up like it was Christmas! I felt the same when I saw how beautifully the package was wrapped.

Once I got a look at the apron it was love at first site. I am planning to order one for each of my grandchildren. The Children's cooking aprons are made with great care and of the highest quality. I inspected the seams, the hem and the ties. I can say that this is going to last a long while. The apron is waterproof and lined with fine cotton.

Our Trip To The Shedd Aquarium

We drove to Chicago today and spent the afternoon at the Shedd Aquarium. I shot some photos of our long trip there and back. Pooh Bear had a wonderful time.

Pita Bread Recipe with Baking Tips

I do enjoy making bread for my family. I have a bread machine but I most often make bread by hand. This is good relaxing therapy. The dough I use for this is just a basic white bread recipe. If you would like to make this wheat bread you can substitute whole wheat flour for half of the white flour. I have also heard it works well with totally replacing the white flour with wheat. Although I have only tried the half and half method.

Bread Dough Recipe

Ingredients:

1&1/4 cups water

3 tablespoons olive oil (substitute vegetable oil)

1 tablespoons sugar(substitute 2tablespoons honey)

1 teaspoon salt

3&1/2 cups flour

1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast

First add 1/4 cup warm water(105° F–115° F) and sugar to a small bowl. Add yeast to the warm sugar water stir gently. Allow the yeast activate.(bubbles form and mixture becomes frothy). Mix the flour and salt together in a large bowl. Add water, olive oil and yeast mixture. Mix with hands until the dough forms a ball.

If the dough seems sticky add flour very slowly until a soft dough is formed and is easy to knead. Knead the dough gently for a few minutes. Place the dough in a bowl that has been oiled with a little olive oil. Roll the dough over a couple time to allow the oil to cover all sides of the dough. This will seal the air out so the dough will not form a dry crust.

Set the bowl in a warm place and cover with a towel.

Tip for a drafty kitchen: Fill a pot 1/4 of the way with warm water(110° F.)Set the bowl of dough over the pot of water do not set the bowl in the water. Cover with a towel.

Allow the dough to rise about double in size. (45 min. to 11/2 hrs.)

Remove the dough and knead on a lightly floured surface. Preheat oven to 400° F. Divide the dough into 8 pieces. Roll out each piece into a flat circle.

Allow the pieces to sitcovered with a towel and rise about 10 to 15 min. Place the pita circles on a cookie sheet or pizza stone in the oven. The dough should puff up slowly.

Baking time about 7 to 10 min. Until slightly brown.

Tip to keep pita bread soft. When the bread is taken from the oven it will harden as it cools. To prevent this place the pitas right out of the oven on a sheet of waxed paper and cover with a kitchen towel. Add more pieces under the towel untill all pieces are baked. Allow the bread to cool and seal into a ziplock bag.

Tip to serve warm pita bread. When pita bread is rewarmed in the oven on a tray or in a microwave it will cool down very quickly. I rewarm my pita in a hot oven for a few seconds then place it back in a ziplock bag and place on a serving plate. A guest can remove a warm piece and reseal the bag the pitas will stay warm and soft.

Funny Irish T-shirts

Look what I have got! I have been asked to review a FUNNY IRISH T-SHIRT. Just what my son needs for St. Patrick's day.

I was able to pick out a design I liked. Well, let me tell you there are so many funny shirts available I had a difficult time selecting one. I knew I planned to give this shirt to my son so I wanted something he could wear to college. I could have picked a funny design but I thought he might not want to wear it to school. I really like the recycle logo and green is also one of his schools colors. My T-shirt arrived a few days after shipping. The shipping was so fast that I had to change my schedule since I had not planned to write this review until the weekend.

I must say I love this T-shirt. The fabric is soft, thick and heavy. There is no comparison to the cheaply made thin T-shirts you find now days. I would say this has many years of wash and wear ahead of it. Take a look at the photo below. The length is great not to short and the sleeves are a complete short sleeve not some little wisp of material.

My son has assured me the shirt is very comfortable.

My Week Three Totals: 21 Day Weight Loss Challenge

My 21 days are over. I am very excited to say that I completed my 21 day goals. The total points possible for the challenge was 2,215. My total points were 1,067. This included points for eating proper meals, vegetables, protein and drinking enough water. There were points for exercising, sweating, sleeping and blogging. It was also possible to loose points for drinking soda, eating sweets, skipping breakfast, eating fast food and eating refined carbs. My most point loss was from drinking soda and not sleeping enough. I could have also done better if I had blogged every day and drank enough water. I will try to do better in the March challenge. I still feel like a winner since I have reached my short term goals.

Forgive Me My Friend

On Sunday evening I had this lovely thought of posting about a tasty bread recipe I baked Sunday morning. I was all excited I remembered to take a few pictures and everything. So, I sit down and insert the camera media card into my favorite (only) computer. I patiently waited after all my computer is about 3 years old and has gotten a little slow to respond to my commands. Well, I waited and nothing. I tried and tried to get the computer to read this little card. I even tried to manually open the card reader. The icon was missing. When I ran a search nothing came up. Oh, just my luck.I restarted the computer. Still now icon and it would not read the card. I restored to an eairlier date. It finally read the card. Yay!! I was dancing and a little too proud. Next, I try to sign in to Google Chrome. I get his lovely message on the screen.

NO files found! Please reinstall. Ok, just reinstall, I can do that no problem. I reinstall. Same message again. Well now I am mad! I delete Google chrome and reinstall that should do the trick. It's now midnignt. No such luck to be had. I go to bed.

Monday evening after a long day with Pooh Bear. I decide I will up grade my Vista to Windows 7. I have had the windows 7 cd for over a year to upgrade my computer. What stopped me was I have not backed up my files. I am smart enough to know I could loose all my photos if I do not back them up. Like, that has never happened to me. Haha, not again anyway.

I read all the instructions and followed them to the last period. The instructions said it might take several hours. Once started you can't stop the download or you loose everything. After four hours of sitting and babysitting my computer. You see the program said it would stop at certain points and prompt me with more instructions. Such as stop the download. Reinstall this driver and restart the computer and then start the download again. That is what I did until one am. Then I took my computer to bed. I did! Yes, I did. Well, actually I put it on the night stand. With the instruction book and pen and paper. Once it gave an instruction and I closed the window I had to remember the steps. There for pen and paper. I climed in bed with this blue light shining brightly in my eyes. If there is one thing I need when I sleep its pitch black. I love the dark. I draw the blanket over my head and try to get a few minutes of shut eye. I had to respond each time it beeped and I crossed my fingers I was not so blury eyed that I would mess the whole thing up.

Some time around 11:30 am my computer was finished installing the windows 7 and I again was happy for a few minutes. It is sad to say I have tried mutiple time to install my favorite Google Chrome back to where it belongs with no luck. I am certain my computer is on its last leg. It is slow to respond and as I am typing I am miles ahead of the print. I should have taken better care of my dear friend. You bet if I can get it back to a resembelence of its past I promiss to make amends.

My Week Three Update: 21 Day Weight Loss Challenge

This week has been very hard. I have been fighting the flu for a few days now. I am finally starting to feel better. I did not workout as much as I would have liked to. As for my meal plan it went right out the window. I had a lot of crackers, tea and soda. I will be weighing my self on Tuesday so I am not going to expect much change in the numbers. I also need to tally up the points in my journal to see how I have been doing with the eating and exercise plan. I still have determination to keep working on my drive to be more healthy. A new 21 day challenge starts in March. I expect I will be joining the challenge again. Following the Dustin Maher’s Fit Mom’s For Life Program and being in the blogger weight loss challenge has helped me remain accountable? I am feeling better and am able to keep up a little better with my grandchildren. Thank you my friends for following me through this process. I am so thankful for the support. Landscaping Plans for Our Yard

Grandpa and I were talking today about redoing our landscaping in our flower beds, around our koi pond and around the swing set. I was complaining that every year we have to replace most of the mulch in the flower beds. Grandpa having more urgent problems on his list encouraged me to make a plan and start searching for a better mulch.

Here is my plan. First, I want to use a 3 inch layer of natural hard wood mulch for my flower beds near the house. I like this mulch type because it will break down over time and add organic matter to the soil. Next, I want to remove the grass in a two foot wide perimeter around my koi pond. We have always had a problem with mowing the grass along the perimeter of our pond. The lawn mower blows grass clippings into the pond. A bit of grass clippings get in the pond even when we use a lawn bag. Anyone who has a koi pond knows that this will cause problems with the ph in the pond and create a great environment for algae to grow. After some research I decided on river bed stone. I wanted to use a stone gravel and most stone gravels contain limestone. Lime will leach into the water and again cause problems with the ph levels. So, river bed stone it will be.

Last, but not least I plan to clear the sand from under our swing set and place mulch under the swing and slide. I am always worried about my grandchildren being safe while playing in my yard. I know there will be falls from the slide and swing so I wanted to find a suitable surface that would look good but also be a safety cushion for falls. Then I remembered the neighbor hood park used rubber mulch for playground safety. So that is my answer. I go to Rubber Mulch and find all the information I need. They have all sorts of colored recycled tire mulch. How cool is that. Green recycled material for mulch that will stay put for a long time. Children's Music CD Review & Giveaway I Am Happy By Sukey Molloy

I am speechless as I write this review. I am listening to the I Am Happy music CD as I write this review. I have listened to it a few times this week. I love its lively music and lyrics. The music and lyrics are written in a way to encourage children to use their imaginations. When ever I get a new music CD I usually play the CD and try to pick my favorite song while I listen. As I was listening to this CD I thought the first track, I Put My Scarf on My Head would be my favorite. Then I changed my mind and thought track 5, It's Snowing was my favorite. I gave up on picking a favorite as I found each song was my favorite. Oh, I do have to mention that track 15, Counting Song is awesome. The lyrics count in English, Spanish, French, German and Japanese! I played the CD for Pooh Bear and he joined in started to dance to track 8 My Head Goes Round. I recommend if you have any children in your home you should have the CD. I can't say more than the music is awesome. I just love that it encourages participation and movement. I enjoyed dancing to this music with Pooh Bear and I can hardly wait to share the music with the rest of my grandchildren.

I want to share with you a little bit of the lyrics from track 8 and you will know why Pooh Bear loves it so much.

My granddaughters are on vacation in Disney World. I wish I could have joined them. I have been assured they are having a blast! I have a few photos to share. Sorry about the poor quality and grainy texture. The photos went from cellphone to cellphone and then emailed to my computer. I love the photos any way.

My Update: 21 Day Weight Loss Challenge

Week two is over and we are headed into week three. The second week was a little harder for me to stay on track. I had to squeeze my workout in at random times during the day. I would have liked to stick to a schedule but, Pooh Bear had no intention of sticking to a schedule this week.
Areas I need to try to improve?
This week I need to focus on eating more vegetables.
I need to drink more water.
I need to get to bed earlier.
What has helped me on Dustin Maher’s Fit Mom’s For Life Program?

Keeping a food journal. I like being able to look back and see where my problem areas are. It's also nice to see when I have been eating more healthy.

The Facebook group is supportive, helpful in answering questions and keeps me accountable.

The menus are easy to use and are easy to find substitutes for items you may not want to use.

The points plan that we are using is great and fun to follow. I find its easy to keep track of exercise and food points. I can look back on my points for the day or week and decide where I need improvement.

I am happy with my progress. I am planning to keep working on being fit and healthy for many years to come.

Our Home Schooling Plans

I have been thinking about my grandchildren's education more and more lately. We already know that one grandson is going to be home schooled at least until high school. While not all of my grandchildren will be home schooled, I do plan to be an important part of their education. I have been researching online for some early education materials and happened upon this really neat math curriculum for K-3rd grade. I was instantly drawn to the kindergarten math curriculum. I am not new to homeschooling. I have home schooled each of my four children at some point during their formal education. I home schooled my oldest son for a little over half of his elementary school years because of our frequent traveling. Math was the one subject that I had difficulties in teaching by the book. I never really found a structured math curriculum that allowed for individual needs. This is why I was so excited to find this site. I know I will be teaching my grandson part of the time. I want to be as prepared as possible and not have to scurry about at the last minute looking for a curriculum that we will be happy with. I will continue my search for the best possible home school resources available. In the past it was hard to find enough engaging material that fit each child's needs. This program is the answer to that problem.
DreamBox Learning also offers a free trial subscription that I am going to try on my granddaughter this year when she turns five. I will find out if I actually like the curriculum enough to stick with it. What I believe I will like the most is the lessons are on the computer. As the child works on their math lessons the program is tracking and recording how each child is progressing. If the child has a problem in a certain area the program adjusts and adds more lessons in that area. I also like that the parents can track their child's progress and see each and every step the child has taken in the program. I really feel kindergarten math is where our grandchildren's foundation starts. I have found that homeschool research will be an important part of our lives for many years to come.

Music CD Review & Giveaway: Monster Suit by Mo Phillips

My grandchildren love music and are always singing along while riding in the car. Given the chance they could sing and dance all day along with grandpa and grandma. So, when I was given the chance to review the album Monster Suit by Mo Phillips I jumped at the chance to try out some new music written for families and children.

When the package arrived I gave it to Pooh Bear to open. I was not sure how he would react I thought he might think it was a movie DVD. Immediately upon opening the wrapper Pooh Bear went straight to my computer. I tried to intercept him since I don't want a CD stuck in the disk drive. (Not that its ever happened before ha ha.) Well, Pooh Bear would not let me touch the CD he kept repeating "Pooh Bears CD" I had to gently guide his hands to inset the CD properly and he sat patiently waiting for it to load. I told him, "It is not a movie its music"! When the music started the first track began playing. The look on Pooh bears face was precious.(I forgot the camera of course). "Toes" started playing and Pooh Bear got up and was dancing around enjoying the music. I have got to say at this point that Monster Suit is not my kind of music but its for children 3 and up so who am I to judge. Pooh Bear thinks the music is great he has claimed the CD as his own and has put it on his book shelf along with his favorite books, puzzles and family picture album. In the last few days Pooh Bear has listened to the CD enough that its lively beat and strange but funny lyrics have started to grow on me.

We Are Back!!

Our trip was wonderful, short and hard all rolled into one. First off we left on Friday early before the sun came up. Pooh Bear was not happy to wake up this early and was just a bit crabby. Once he remembered we were going to grandpas he instantly was wide awake and begging to put his shoes and coat on.
We had to stop often as usual. Pooh Bear still has motion sickness so we have found that stopping often about every hour prevents disaster!!! While traveling to see grandpa Pooh Bear did not eat much the whole ride. I believe his little tummy was not too happy. Traveling back seemed to be much better. He was able to eat some fruit and cheese. I got some pictures of Pooh Bear and Little Bug playing together. They played shopping and cooking for hours on end. The shopping cart and plastic play food was one of the best toy investments I have made this year. Cheap, long lasting imaginative play. Please forgive me for the blurry photos. I took over 50 pictures and most were just a blur so I am posting the best.

My Update: 21 Day Weight Loss Challenge

I had to travel this weekend and did not do so well with eating healthy. We left very early Friday morning and drove most of the day. I packed our family peanut butter sandwiches on 100% wheat bread for breakfast. For lunch we had whole grain pita wraps with vegetables and humus dip. Dinner was my down fall. We had grandpas fried chicken. I did not want to hurt him by not eating. He worked hard on preparing a home cooked meal even though he had just finished a 16 hour shift at work. Saturday we had lots of company, a birthday party and too much food. I just gave up and enjoyed the food and fine company. Sunday was great though. I made a fruit and vegetable tray for the ride home. We munched on this for breakfast and lunch and did not eat any fast food. I failed with my workouts as I was unable to sneak away from the party for even a few minutes. I am not too worried though. I have already made the effort today to get back on track. I fit my workout in early and I have been very good with eating today. Thank you my blogging friends for all your support.

Gone For The Weekend!!
