Our opinion: Les Orangers Beach Resort is highly praised by the guests who have experienced its staff's hospitality, modern facilities and the superb beach it is located on. We also highly recommend it as one of the best hotels in Hammamet area.
The Les Orangers Beach Resort is located approximately 4km from Hammamet town. Overlooking the picturesque Fort of Hammamet, the Les Orangers occupies an enviable position on a superb beach with shallow waters, which is particularly good for families. This rather industrial looking building is the famous Abbey Theatre, which is known for its productions of older Irish plays. The building also houses the smaller Peacock Theatre, which sometimes puts on more experimental works.

National Concert Hall, Earlsfort Terrace. 671 1533/1888. Weekly performances by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. They put on a marvellous cross-section of everything from Beethoven to Gershwin. Also has concerts in summer at lunch time on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Gaiety Theatre. King Street South. Tel: 677 1717. The oldest theatre in Dublin. Built in 1837, the theatre offers a wide range of entertainment, including drama, musicals, comedy, opera and ballet. On Fridays and Saturdays the venue is taken over by salsa and soul clubs until 4am. Admission 8 pounds-16 pounds 50 pence (E12-25).

Bewley's Cafe Theatre. 2nd Floor. 78 Grafton Street. Tel: 677 6761. Plays, often by new playwrights, are performed at lunch time (12.50pm). Soup and Sandwich includes in the price of 6 pounds 50 pounds (E10).

Olympia Theatre. 72 Dame Street. Tel: 677 7744. The Olympia is one of the oldest theatre in Dublin, where generations of theatre goers have been entertained by some Ireland's and Europe's finest companies and actors. It's an ornate Victorian music hall which, apart from plays, also has occasional live gigs by some big international acts.

Trinity College Choir. Dame Street. The Chapel choir, one of the best in the city, sings twice a week. Every Thursday at 5:15pm; every Sunday at 10:45am. Free admission.

The Crypt Arts Centre. Dublin Castle, Dame Street. Tel: 671 3387. Set in the elegant grounds of Dublin Castle, the Crypt presents the best in new Irish plays and original productions of international classics. They present a new show every two to three weeks.

Top Tip Dublin is, in general, a safe city, but petty theft is a problem. After dark, stick to the well-lit main streets. Fitzwilliam and Merrion Squares are prime prostitution areas and should be avoided at night.

If you want to drink lots of beer, listen to some Country and Western, have a laugh and maybe meet someone of the opposite sex, this might be just the place. A good, old fashioned mainstream disco. Both street shops and stalls sell amazing souvenirs such as amber jewellery, wood or soapstone carvings, colourful paintings and mahogany furniture. The most popular, however, are the locally produced cigars, rum and coffee.

Cuisine
Dominican cuisine has several unique dishes. Sancocho, a thick stew, is made of five or seven different meats. Arroz con pollo (chicken with rice) is staple on every Dominican menu. Bananas are cooked in a million different ways, such as Tostones, where the banana is flattened and fried. The most common dish is called 'La Bandera Dominicana' (which literally means 'Dominican flag') and comprises white rice, beans, meat and salad. Fish and seafood are excellent and reasonably priced, and the fantastic local fruits are made into a whole range of exotic drinks known as 'jugo'. Orange is normally called 'china', papaya 'lechosa', passion fruit 'chinola' and coconut water is normally served cold, straight from the coconut. It's also worth sampling the local beers and the many brands of rum.

Night-life
As the national music, Merengue is the centrepiece of parties throughout the country. Dominicans have a reputation for dancing anywhere - even in the street! In the evening hotels host entertainment with theme nights and shows, which are well worth seeing.
