Outlook not syncing all emails from GMail / gapps

When using Outlook to access emails from Gmail / Gapps suite via IMAP, notice that at times not all emails / older messages are syncing in Outlook folders such as Inbox / Sent Items etc.

After facing this issue and searching all the possible setup setting in Outlook, found the reason due to which this was happening.

In Gmail, in settings for Forwarding and POP/IMAP, Under IMAP Settings, a option is available for "Folder Size Limits" This has two options.

Option 1 - Do not limit the number of messages in an IMAP folder (default)
Option 2 - Limit IMAP folders to contain no more than this many messages

Option 2, has a dropdown from which can select the number of messages to limit ( 1000 / 2000 / 5000 / 10000 )

When Option 1, is selected by all messages are synced in Outlook. By selecting Option 2 the numbers of messages shown in Outlook is restricted. Have noticed the latest emails to the limit are only shown.

So to show all messages in Outlook, when using IMAP sync method for Gmail / Gsuite email, should select "Do Not limit the number of messages in an IMAP folder" option.

Finding WWN Number Windows Server

To find WWN numbers on Physical Servers with Windows Server operating system, one of the options is to install a utility provided by Microsoft called "Fibre Channel Information Tool" (fcinfo)

This can be downloaded from Fibre Channel Utility

Download and install the utility and execute the same from command prompt.

Change the path to c:\windows\SysWOW64 and run fcinfo, then it would display the following info.

Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 4 - Create Team Not available

When using Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 4, sometime we face a challenge that Team Create option is not available.

Issue:
When the software of Broadcom NIC Teaming Software is installed, usually default options are used by clicking Next, Next. By doing this a crucial option of BASP is missed to be enabled.

Resolution / Solution:
If the software is already installed, can Modify the installation by clicking "Change" from Program and Features.

During this, need to enable option BASP, which is present under CIM Provider.

After the installation is completed, launch the Broadcom Advanced Control Suite and option for Creating Teams would be show if any Unassigned Adapters are available, by right clicking on Teams option.

Safely log out / sign out from Windows 2012 Server

Sometimes by mistake when we need to log off from server, it happens that its either shutdown or restarted. How to avoid this...

Step 1:
Press windows Key

Step 2:
Type "cmd" and hit enter

Step 3:
Command prompt would appear

Step 4:
Type "logoff"

This way safely we logout.

Four options are provided for Power Switch as follows.

Momentary Press, Press and Hold, Reset and Cold Boot.

Each of them is as follows.

Momentary Press --> Graceful Power Off
Press and Hold --> Force Power Off
Reset --> Force System Rest
Cold Boot --> Force Power Cycle

Install Adobe Flash on Android Tablet ( Device )

Currently, Adobe Flash is not available to install via Google Play on Android Devices.

Way round to install / Add flash to Android Device is as follows.

Browse to the following link.

Scroll down, to find the right Android version of your device and select the version of Flash to install.

This way it would directly download the apk file and install flash.

If an error is shown, saying installing from an unknown source, not to worry.

Please go to settings --> security --> Unknown Sources
Select the Check box against Unknown sources. Now it would have a tick mark in the box.

After installing can come back and De-Select.

This is the safest way for installing flash player on a Android Tablet / Phone directly from Adobe, instead of using a Third party App.

Embed a Sugar Sync shared file or picture into website

Wondered how to insert a shared document or a photograph on Sugar Sync Cloud storage directly into a website page?

Its simple.

Follow these steps.

STEP 1: Get the public link for the file which needs to be placed in the website.

Do a right click on the file which needs to placed on the website and select "Get Public Link". Upon clicking the link would be copied to the clipboard. Paste the link to editor where it can be changed. The public link would be something like this.

https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/A616121_61634464_393271

STEP 2: Modifying the public link

The link obtained in Step 1, needs to be modified for it work directly in a website.

Would need to change, two characters between two slashes ( / ). Need to change pf to piv. The modified url would look like this.

https://www.sugarsync.com/piv/A616121_61634464_393271

STEP 3: Placing the link into the website.

Copy the link from STEP 2, into the website. This would enable for the shared file to open directly on the page.

Example

If the shared file is an image then it can be used like this.

In above code replace

"<" with <
">" with >

To embed a file or a photo or music file ( MP3 ) in a website, which is shared on Dropbox please follow the below steps.

STEP 1. Share a file and get the link for the same.

Link would be something like this.

or
https://www.dropbox.com/s/asdf1i2o3lkjhie/FileToEmbed.jpg?dl=0

STEP 2. Modify the link

Option 1
In the link, please replace www with dl, new link would look something like this.

Option 2
In the link, please replace www.dropbox with dl.dropboxusercontent, new link would look something like this.

STEP 3. Copy the link from Step 2 in the website.
This would force for the shared file / image / music file to open and display, without the need to download and open the file.

Previously such links used to be generated for the files placed in Dropbox Public Folder.

Recently all the blogger URL's have been directing to a country specific domain

For example, when accessing mfhn.blogspot.com

from United Kingdom, it would show the url as mfhn.blogspot.co.uk
from India, it would show the url as mfhn.blogspot.in
from Australia, it would show the url as mfhn.blogspot.com.au

if want to view the global url instead of country specific url can add /ncr/ at the end of the address and it would show the .com address

mfhn.blogspot.com/ncr/

Remove Malware

Currently a malware is being circulated, on infected system the following screen is visible when the system is started or trying to browse.

The text on the page reads something like this...
" Under the laws of the United Kingdom and investigation of Metropolitan Police Service and Strathclde Police Your computer is locked to prevent illegal activity in the network." and asks to pay a certain amount.

One of the ways to remove this malware, restart the system in Safe mode by pressing F8 when the system is getting started.

When logged in check the Startup program option from All programs. Here would find a random number file entry, do a right click and find the location of the file.

Delete this file and remove the shortcut of the file in the startup program option.

Hopefully this would be cleared.

Finding Public IP Address

To find out public ip address for your connection to internet, one of the ways is, in Google Search, type MY IP and click on search.

The first statment would be something like this

Your public IP Address is 11. 22. 33. 44

In place of 11. 22. 33. 44, some other numbers would be shown, which would be the public IP Address for your internet connection.

After upgrading to Firefox 6, noticed View Source option disappear under view Menu in tool bar.

After a bit of digging found its been moved to

Tools Menu -> Web Developer -> Page Source ( CTRL + U )

Remove Mcafee

When a new Desktop or Laptop is purchased, it comes with bundled software, most of them would be trial versions. One such software is Mcafee Anti Virus.

After installing the program from Add / remove programs, still would not be able to install another Anti Virus program of choice. To overcome this can follow the following steps.

1) Download the following utility MCPR.exe ( Best to google and find the current link ). At the moment it can be downloaded from here, after downloading it install and hopefully it would clear and allow you to install another antivirus program.

2. If after Step 1, still struggling, can try this.

Open the Registery Editor and browse to the following location.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
and delete enteries starting with "MFE"

In case getting error "File System Filter Driver" Error, can just delete
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\mfeavfk

and it would allow you to install

Bookmarks or Favorites which are collected as we browse are now a much needed source of our daily internet surfing.

Real need is when we are changing the system or the system fails and want to retrive them.

Mozilla / Firefox stores them under the user profile.

Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

lookout for bookmarkbackups folder and would find files in the following format.

bookmarks-yyyy-mm-dd.json

file dated lastest would the last backup file.

To transfer bookmark, can select the last file and import on to the other client.

Another method to transfer bookmarks, is export them on a regular basis and import whenever required.
