shop spotlight

SuPmon is a pretty cool Etsy shop I recently came across full of really neat (mostly Wes Anderson) film illustrations. Not only is the shop full of these, but the owner also has his own original works AND coolest of all, a customized I always wanted to be a Tenenbaum listing where you can be added to the Tenenbaum family! Neato!

(he also has a few illustrations from The Big Lebowski as well!)

prom ride

2012-06-07T07:00:00.000-05:00

Things lately have been busy, busy, busy again, as usual. On Monday night we decided last minute to join in on the fun and go on the FBC prom ride. So, here are a bunch of pictures of people that I don't know to share some of the funny prom attire. All photos are from the FBC blog.

And that last photo is me and some people I do know.

The night was a pretty crazy adventure involving a broken bike, being stranded, finally meeting up with the group at a gay biker bar, tequila, dancing and a 2 a.m. diner dinner. It was a pretty good night.

You can see other FBC events here

stuff & things vol. 13

2012-06-01T13:37:00.002-05:00

I really love Mandi's handmade dress and really want to make one just like it of my own.

But you know, not maternity.

What's cooler than floral jorts?! I need to find a pair!

What a clever tattoo idea! I love this!

I am so excited for this to come out! It looks so cool, plus Leo is just the dreamiest.

If I had $238 to spare I'd definitely grab this dress! I've never been a big stripe person, but I've been crazy about them lately!

Sarah of Mouse Trap Vintage posted this awesome Moonrise Kingdom themed update.

If you haven't seen this yet you must!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

I can't quite recall what led met to Reading While Eating: The Photography of Juliette Tang, but I had it bookmarked and am glad I did. These are some lovely images.

new goods.

2012-05-30T07:17:00.000-05:00

Just wanted to stop by and share the couple new items in the shop this week. A few old listings, a few not yet listed, but mostly fresh new goods already hanging out in the shop!

I just wish those blue sandals fit me! I think they are the comfiest thing I have set my foot upon (since they're not big enough to put my foot inside)!

behind the scenes

2012-05-29T06:19:00.002-05:00

W Magazine just released some behind the scenes photos for Moonrise Kingdom. I had kind of forgotten about its May 25th release date since it snuck up so crazy fast (um, it's almost the end of May! What?!). Well, turns out it is a limited release and isn't playing anywhere near me. It'll be another whole month until the full release (June 29th), but I'm sure it will be here in no time!

Also, here's a funny tour/interview with the great Bill Murray.

Oh, hey, it's been a while. After an unintended week away from the blog I hope to be back for good. I just can't believe how crazy busy life has been lately! Here's hoping things slow down a little bit!

I got a Wacom tablet a couple of weeks ago and this was my first attempt at using it. It's pretty fun to use, but it'll take a little bit of getting used to. I'm pretty excited about it! What's new with you?!

2012-05-21T07:20:00.000-05:00

How is it possible that Fall/Winter collection lookbooks are already being released?!

It's crazy, but I don't think you can really mind all that much when they're this cute!

new hair & repeat pieces

2012-05-18T15:22:00.000-05:00

I mentioned the other day that I dyed my hair. Well, here are the results, except that it's a little bit lighter in real life. It's kind of a mix of blonde, brown, yellow and orange, but it's really been growing on me this past week.

I wore this outfit the other night just hanging out with some friends. I just keep wearing this skirt, I really need to find a similar one that isn't corduroy! This is probably the 10th time it has popped up in an outfit post! Whoops! And this crop top is a piece that expired in my shop. I tried it out and kinda liked it. Who knows, maybe it'll go back into the shop, or maybe it'll just stay in my closet.
This week has totally thrown me off. I've been working overnight, sleeping all day and then being lazy for the couple hours I have between waking up and going back in to work. But it's finally over now and I couldn't be happier! Back to regular, structured life! I hope you all have a great weekend! I know I'll be enjoying what feels like the first time off I've had in weeks!

It makes me so happy to see a customer enjoying something they bought (or in this case won) from my shop! Geena Rose just featured her new dress on her blog. How cute is she?! You can see more of it over at her blog.

You can also see some other girls looking cute in Maggie's Farm Vintage.

If anyone else has any photos in MFV I'd love to see/share them.

So, send them my way!

costume change

2012-05-14T11:59:00.001-05:00

My days off work usually consist of several costume changes. I think I just get wrapped up in everything when I'm sewing and trying things on and checking them out. It's kind of ridiculous how many times I change outfits! Is anyone else guilty of this?!

But really, a costume is really kind of what this outfit feels like to me. It looks a lot more grungy than it felt at the time! I have had that sweater for years and I don't think I've worn it once! I've also had the shorts for forever and have almost worn them to their death. And then, I finally gave the sheer top (with only a bra) a try and I think I liked it..? I guess I was feeling a little daring with this look. But I only ran to Target to grab some hair dye (I'll share the results soon, if you haven't seen them on instagram) while wearing it.

2012-05-11T07:51:00.000-05:00

Fake house hunting is probably one of my favorite time-sucking things to do online. I found a few really great places recently. Including this one that not only looks really nice, but is a lot cheaper than our place. Bummer!

This is really cool!

The fact that Maggie's Farm is at 299 sales! Sale 300 gets a special gift! Who is it going to be?! :)

So, How I Met Your Mother is one of the greatest shows ever, right?! I've been re-watching the whole series on Netflix these last few weeks and no matter how many times I see each episode they'll always be hilarious!

I totally got sucked into Handmade Ryan Gosling once again last night. He's just so sweet and understanding. :)

I had to include this after cracking up when I saw it on Kaelah's blog!

I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Atomic Attic is a really neat Etsy shop that has not only some really great vintage housewares, but probably THE coolest pet beds ever! See for yourself!

See what I mean?!

It's been quite a while since I've done a Shop Spotlight post, but you can see the others I've featured here!

like a glove

2012-05-07T13:34:00.001-05:00

This is my perfect dress. It fits like a glove. I thought it was pretty great when I thrifted it at least a year ago. Then, I thought it was really great whenever I shortened it. But now, I think it's the greatest after I took off the pouffy sleeves a couple of weeks ago! I kind of want to wear it everyday. What is your perfect piece?

And then the shoes, I've been dreaming of some of these shoes (any kind of clog sandal really) for so long now and I finally went for it a few weeks ago. So glad I did! I know they will get a lot of wear this Summer!

Speaking of Summer -- does it feel like Summer where you are?! It was 90-something degrees when we took these pictures, it's been crazy!

shop update

2012-04-30T07:15:00.000-05:00

I had totally planned on an outfit post for today, but unfortunately Saturday's insane weather decided otherwise. Rickey and I were on our way to the zoo when it started storming, so we turned around and came home instead. We went out a little bit later thinking we'd take some quick pictures before heading to a movie, but then ended up cutting it too close. While we were in the movie (The Five Year Engagement, which was really really great) it started hailing, in-theater sirens went off, we almost evacuated the theater, were told to sit back down and they finally resumed the movie. It was a pretty scary experience, not really knowing what was going on outside. Did anyone else have crazy storms?

All of that aside, these are the goodies that will be heading into the shop this week! I was tempted to keep almost all of these, but I guess I'll share and offer them up to everyone else! :)

stuff & things vol. 11

2012-04-27T07:50:00.000-05:00

I've had my eye on this cat tote, but I just can't decide, there are way too many cute tote bags out there!

WOW! That couch. I need it, or one like it!
Next weekend Rickey and I are heading all the way down to Houston to get my new car. Anyone know of some good things to do there? Good stuff to do/see/eat?

I am really loving this dress! Stripes are one of those things that I haven't been too into until sort of recently. Now, most of the dresses that catch my eye (and come home with me) have been striped!
I've really been itching for my next tattoo, but there are SO many pretty vintage florals out there! How will I ever choose?!

There is currently a Maggie's Farm giveaway going on over at Tick Tock Vintage. Head on over and win some free stuff!

Did anyone catch last night's live episode of 30 Rock? There were so many awesome cameos! So funny!

Wasn't TGIF like the greatest thing ever?!

But really, TGIF! I feel like I've been waiting for the weekend for so long.

Even though our trip got moved to next week I am really, really looking forward to still having the weekend off!

Do you have any fun weekend plans?

Color Stories

2012-04-25T07:02:00.000-05:00

Orange is one of those colors that I feel is a little bit tougher to wear, for me at least. I have one orange shirt and I think that's probably it. If I had the chance/money I think I'd wear any of these though!

Do yo have any certain colors that you find hard to wear?

off time

2012-04-18T06:47:00.000-05:00

It's been pretty rare lately that Rickey and I have a whole lot of time off of work together. Our work schedules are kind of backwards, but this week I've been working some overnight shifts, so we've matched up a little bit. The other day we finished up all of our tax business, grabbed some lunch and took it to the park, looked at some dogs at the Humane Society and went grocery shopping all before I headed back into work later that night. We managed to get a few quick outfit shots even though the wind was shooting right at me.

Over the weekend I decided to finally dedicate a day off to working on my 'stuff to work on' pile. Those days are almost always hit or miss. Either just about everything will turn out pretty great or I'll end up messing a bunch of things up. Luckily this was one of those good days, actually a really great day! I fixed up so many things that had been waiting around for so long. A lot more of them went into my own closet than (will be going) into the shop, but I'm so happy to finally have made some progress on it! Including this skirt and the perfect fitting dress minus its funny puffy sleeves! I just want to wear the dress everyday now!
