Dog Detoxification tips before starting raw food diet

Did you just get your dog a commercial diet with a diet of dog food first? Have you noticed any loose stools and vomiting in your dog? I could go through a detoxification period.

Detoxification occurs because the body of your dog is cleaned of its old regime. It is a normal part of the transition. How long it lasts can vary depending on the number of toxins that your dog has in his system. But usually begins within 1 to 2 days to go to a raw food diet and can last several days. In some dogs have been known to detox last several weeks, although I have advice for your dog checked by a veterinarian if vomiting or diarrhea persists for more than a week.

Signs of addiction include earwax build up, foul odor, vomiting, loose stools, itching, guts and bad breath.

Did you know you can set your dog detoxified before starting a raw food diet for dogs? Some pet owners do this due to the benefits associated with detoxification at the beginning.

One advantage is that your dog's body is cleansed of toxins in advance and if your body is primed to absorb nutrients from the new and healthy food which was submitted to him. Another advantage is that because your dog will be hungry after they have been detoxified, it is easier for him (and) to get used to the new regime. This is a great advantage, especially for owners of picky eaters.

If you are going to clean your pet before him on a raw food diet, here's what to do. Period of 2-3 days, you can quickly put into a dog or a liquid diet. You can stop feeding him the old diet. Fun ways of keeping a dog cool

Since it is going to be a really warm one over this Fourth of July weekend, I was looking around for fun ways to keep Mayhem cool.
Next thing I know I came across this really cool dog blog called The Days of Johann and found these really fun videos of dogs keeping cool as only dogs can.

The dog food change that got Mayhem on the right track with his allergies.

All that scratching had Mayhem in misery, not to mention the ten trips outside in the middle of the night due to his upset stomach.
Of course we took him to the vet and were given a sales pitch on some fancy $60 prescription dog food that may help. I declined and went to researching what may be causing Mayhem's dog allergies and digestion problems. A common theme I encountered was all the fillers and grain products in all the so called top brands, including the prescription brand, were allergy triggers.

To make a long story short, I found a grain free Salmon/ Sweet Potato based dog food that in two weeks had his coat soft and shiny and all digestive problems a thing of the past.

In future posts I will get deeper into the various brands of grain free dog food, their ingredients, and how they are closer to a diet dogs were designed to eat.
