440th Araw ng Pasig Celebration

July 2 is Araw ng Pasig and this year is the 440^th celebration of this historic event. I went to the website of the Pasig City Government and I was very disappointed that there is no information about this upcoming event on their website.

In fact, the website of the Pasig City Government http://pasigcity.gov.ph/, particularly the Upcoming Events section, is not update. The last celebration that is listed there is the Bambino Festival which happened in January 2013. So I checked the other Social Media channels of the Pasig City Government.

The Facebook link on the website redirects to the Facebook page of Ex-Mayor Bobby Eusebio. It doesn’t give any information about the upcoming 440^th Araw ng Pasig Celebration. It only highlights the accomplishments of the Pasig City Government.

The Twitter page of the Pasig City Government is a lot worse. It redirects to the Twitter account of Ex-Mayor Bobby Eusebio and it was last updated in 2010. It’s obvious that they set-up the Twitter account so that it would appear great on the Pasig City website, although it’s not updated.

If I were the current Mayor of Pasig City, I would allot enough budgets to Public Information, particularly through websites, blogs, Facebook and Twitter page. It’s already the digital age and a lot of people are online. Citizens of Pasig like me, would love to know information about upcoming events in Pasig City, on the Internet, online.

Surprisingly, the Pasig City Government has an agency called the Public Information Office (PIO). It has a Facebook page but it’s like the local version of PAG-ASA (the weather bureau). I just hope that public information would included other things aside from weather updates.

I’m just hoping that the Pasig City Government would celebrate the 440^th Araw ng Pasig this year better than last year.

Highlights of TOYCON 2013

So I was at TOYCON 2013 yesterday afternoon at the SM Megatrade Hall. It was full of people, cosplayers included. Two famous cosplayers were present in the event -- Alodia and Jinri Park. They spent most of their time signing posters and posing for the camera.

I was a bit hesitant to go to TOYCON 2013 thinking that it would probably be the same as last year. I went to the event anyway. It was as I was expecting it to be -- almost the same as last year.

Most of the action figures that were displayed are almost the same exact toys that were displayed last year. A lot of the cosplayers are the same cosplayers that were there last year -- specially the Justice League and the Avengers.

The highlight of the day was the cosplay competition called Hero Face Off. I was expecting a performance by a band or something so I stayed until 7PM. No other performances were present. Not to mention that the entrance fee increased from P100 to P120.

There were few new exhibitors that I noticed and the booth that I really loved seeing is the One Sixth Republic. Their action figures are of high quality. I also loved the free soda provided by Coca Cola and the free ID lace and pin buttons given by Mozilla Philippines (Firefox).

Some of the most common merchandized during TOYCON 2013 are mugs, action figures (One Piece, Naruto, Marvel and DC), toy cars, robots, headgears, cards, dog tags, and t-shirts . There were also home embroidery machines from Brother Philippines and booths from Komikon and schools that offer courses for animation.

Some of the cosplayers that were new to me are: Red Mask (Maskman), the boy scout from the movie Up, and Mr. Pogi (from Dragon Ball Z). I also saw the new PSP games (the latest) Marvel vs Capcom as well as Injustice (DC characters). The online game Dragon Nest was also present during the event giving free installer CDs and posters. There's also a booth dedicated to the promotion of the latest Superman movie, "Man of Steel".

Overall, I still enjoyed attending TOYCON 2013 and here are some of the pictures I took.

The Napindan Road to C-6 Road (Under Construction)

When I bought a mountain bike more than a month ago, I began biking around the Kenneth Area (Pasig City) and Barangay Napindan (Taguig City). These two areas are separated only by the Pasig River and the Napindan Bridge.

I also discovered a road that is under construction. I believe it’s around 80% complete and the reason why it’s not complete is because of informal settlers. Half-way along the road there are around 30-50 informal settlers who are directly affected by the C-6 to Napindan Road. The worst part is, their relocation is probably not in the minds of the government, particularly the officials of Taguig City.

The Napindan Road to C-6 Road is a great project. It has a budget of P67,691,936.40 and is being constructed by Armando U. Khong Hun General Contractor. It started in November 21, 2012 and it’s currently on-hold because of the issue of informal settlers. The implementing office is the DPWH-NCR-FMMED.

The Napindan Road to C-6 Road connects C-6 to Napindan, Taguig City.

Right now, it’s only accessible to light vehicles like bikes, motorbikes and tricycles. If completed, this will allow the residents of Taytay and Pasig to travel to Taguig City faster, and vice versa. This road leads to Barangay Napindan in Taguig City, which is also next to Barangay Kalawaan in Pasig City.

I hope the City Officials of Taguig will come across this blog and issue an official statement regarding the status of completion for this project. I hope the new mayor of Taguig City, Lani Cayetano will look into this issue. I hope the government officials of Taguig will relocate these residents through the Community Mortgage Program (CMP) so that the DPWH could continue with the project.

The Napindan Road to C-6 Road project will benefit a lot of commuters but what good is a project if it’s not complete.

This is the Napindan Bridge. It’s the boundary between Kenneth, Pasig and Napindan, Taguig. About 1 kilometer from this spot, you’ll find a bridge that connects to the on-going Napindan Road to C-6 Road Project.

“Man of Steel” with Nuffnang PH and Wacoal

Thank you Nuffnang Philippines and Wacoal for the free movie screening of "Man of Steel" yesterday at the Newport Cinema 2, Resorts World Manila. As always, it's a memorable movie event and we loved this latest reboot of the Superman movie.

The last 2 Superman movies I've seen (not including Man of Steel) stars Christopher Reeves and Brandon Routh. This latest Superman movie starring Henry Cavill is light-years away in terms of story and the use of computer graphics (CGI) and special effects.

The movie starts on planet Krypton and it was shown in full details highlighting their advance culture and superior technology as far as genetics and space exploration is concerned. Superman (a.k.a. Kal-El) is an extraordinary Kryptonian even from the beginning. After all, his parents were Kryptonian scientist.

We all know what happened to Krypton and how Superman ended up on Earth. The movie also explained why he was not joined by his parents on his travel to Earth and how other Kryptonians escaped the destruction of Krypton.

What I like about the movie is how Clark Kent was raised by his Earth parents, showing his childhood through flashbacks and from his parents' point of view. The movie also provided some information on the life of Clark Kent before he became a reporter for The Daily Planet. I also loved the way the movie projected Superman as a normal human being just like any of us.

"Man of Steel" can also be seen as a prequel to the earlier versions of Superman. I believe that this movie will have 2-3 more sequels, just like what happened to Batman movies by Christopher Nolan. Since this is another Nolan movie, you will notice that it somehow have similarities with his previous projects. "Man of Steel" has the almost-real, happening-today, type of filmography.

I would highly suggest that you watch "Man of Steel" and be amazed once more by the Man in Red Cape.

That’s how I describe the upcoming tele-serye (TV show) on GMA Network – “My Husband’s Lover”. As far as I know, this is the first time that gay love will take the spotlight on Philippine television, not to mention on Primetime.

The people behind this project are truly a pioneer, an innovator. They really have “the balls” to produce such TV show that is beyond the norm. I salute them and I admire them for this. I’m not a fan of tele-serye but this would be the first time that I’ll watch one on Philippine TV.

“My Husband’s Lover” tackles gay love between childhood friends. It’s not something common and probably happens 1 in 20 guys, but the mere fact that it will be shown on TV, on primetime, fascinates me. I watched the trailer of “My Husband’s Lover” including the music video, and I like it. It’s all about the discreet gay guys like me.

I hope this tele-serye would also focus on the struggles of gay guys like me and how society, being mostly Roman Catholics, puts pressure on gays to be like normal guys. I have high expectations on this TV show and hopefully, the viewers would have better understanding of gay guys. We don’t have any control on whom to love. That we simply want to be happy with love.

Good job GMA Network for coming up with a trailblazing project like “My Husband’s Lover”. Congratulations Dennis Trillo and Tom Rodriguez for accepting such demanding roles.

It would probably be wonderful if I could turn into a woman once a month, the same way that Jacob Black could turn into a wolf. That moment of transformation is now. This is my once a month experience of being a woman.

What's the essence of being a woman without wearing all those fashionable clothes and lingerie that defines my curves and assets? Of course, being a woman also requires answering at least 1 Miss Universe question. My Miss Universe question comes from Judge #2 – Miss Thei of Nuffnang Philippines:

Of course, I would answer it in the most fashionable way citing examples of some of the brightest Hollywood actress in the planet. I would begin it with the usual:

If I were to choose 3 outfits that I can fashionably wear my way with my pink Wacoal’s Versatile Wear It Your Way Bra, I would wear it the same way that these 3 women wore it with style and glamour:

First, I would wear it under a black sleeveless blouse like that of Brooke Shields. It gives the impression of grace, class and slimness. Since it’s a pink bra, it will somewhat give contrast to my blouse which would give a teaser to those who would see.

Next, I would wear it in an outfit that intentionally reveals half of the bra. I would wear it more fashionably than what Rihanna did. I would shy away from red but instead wear the same pink bra from Wacoal to reveal a younger, vibrant and playful part of me.

Lastly, I would wear it as simple as what Kristen Stewart wear in one of those press conference. I would look as simple but stunning in a see-through white shirt, revealing my inner beauty and glamour. It would be wonderful to see all the press people looking at me intensely.

Square Ville HOAI and the CMP

Square Ville Home Owners Association Incorporated (Square Ville HOAI) is located at Nagpayong, Pinagbuhatan in Pasig City. It was organized in December 1, 2011 and is headed by its current president, Rodolfo Rabang from Camachile Street. The homeowners association is compose of 171 households. It has an HLURB Certificate of Registration NCR-HOA 11-0183 / 19156. Its present mailing address is at the president’s residence at Block1, Lot 4.

The Nagpayong Sub-Barangay which houses the emergency preparedness equipment. It’s located along Sandoval Avenue, in front of Molave Street, Nagpayong, Pinagbuhatan.

Two years after Square Ville HOAI came into existence; the aim of enrolling the lands into the CMP is far from achieving. There are a lot of paper works to be process before the monthly amortization would commence.

The aim of creating the Square Ville Home Owners Association Incorporated (Square Ville HOAI) is for the informal settlers in this part of Nagpayong to purchase the land that they're illegally occupying. There are a lot of home owners association in this part of Pinagbuhatan, which includes Nagpayong, Napindan, Kenneth and others. The current owner of the land is Sunny Realty Corporation, which is a private corporation. The land that Square Ville HOAI is occupying is part of a 70,303 hectares of land composed of 10 homeowners association.

Last March 26, 2013, a meeting was organized to discuss the status of Square Ville Homeowners Association regarding its application for the Community Mortgage Plan (CMP). The CMP was the government's way of purchasing a land that was illegally occupied by informal settlers and selling the land to these urban poor. The meeting was attended by couples Rodrigo and Monica Asilo, SHOAI President Rodolfo Rabang and the members.

History of CMP and Square Ville HOAI

The Community Mortgage Program (CMP) aims to improve the living conditions of homeless and underprivileged citizens by providing them affordable financing with which they can secure tenure on the land they occupy.

"The Community Mortgage Program (CMP) is a mortgage financing program which assists legally organized associations of residents of blighted or depressed areas to own the lots they occupy, providing them security of tenure and eventually improve their neighborhood and homes to the extent of their affordability." The CMP is being implemented by the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), which is a subsidiary of the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC). The CMP is in accordance with the Urban Development and Housing Act (Republic Act 7279). It was signed into law on March 1992. In 1994, the CMP was given 12.78 billion peso fund for its implementation.

The Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) was created in 2004 by virtue of Executive Order 272. The Community Mortgage (CMP) was transferred from the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation to the SHFC. (Wikipedia)

In order for the informal settlers to purchase the land that they’ve been occupying for years, an Originator is needed. An Originator is a government agency, an NGO or private corporation who would buy the land from the owner and then sell this land to the informal settlers, through monthly amortizations just like what Pag-IBIG is doing.

The Originator for Square Ville Home Owners Association Incorporated (Square Ville HOAI) is the Urban Poor Service Office (Pasig City). The Urban Poor Service Office (UPSO) operates under the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP), which was created in 1987 under Executive Order Number 82. The main goal of the PCUP is “to increase urban poor access to land and housing and other basic services”.

In August 4, 2011 an Intent to Sell was signed between Square Ville HOAI and Sunny Realty Corporation, represented by Gilbert Remulla. The 8,464 square meters of land being occupied by Square Ville HOAI is to be sold at P2,200 per square meter through the CMP of SHFC. The Originator, UPSO, will purchase the land and then sell it to the informal settlers. It was approved in October 20, 2011 and the land was sold by Sunny Realty Corporation through the Urban Poor Service Office (UPSO) of Pasig City.

What Needs To Be Done

The Square Ville HOAI will be conducting an election for the new set of officers (for two years) on the last Sunday of October, 2013. They’re hoping that they will elect officers that are more eager and enthusiastic in enrolling the lands to the CMP so that the members could begin paying for the monthly amortization. The task at hand will include:

Filing of the subdivision plan to the UPSO
Background investigation of the site
Approval for Social Housing, through the SHFC
Segregation of land title to individual lot owners

According to the Checklist of Requirements issued by the SHFC for CMP, since Nagpayong is an on-site project, Square Ville HOAI is required to submit:

Council/Sangguniang Bayan Resolution (LGU-Originators)
Permanent Unit/Department who will handle processing of CMP (LGU-Originators)
Memorandum of Agreement/Contract between Community Association and Mortgage/Assignee or MOA among Originator, CA and SHFC.
Master list of beneficiaries with Loan Apportionment signed by the CA (Community Association or HOA)
Proof of pre-payment of MRI/Documentary Stamp Tax
Cash deposit in favor of SHFC equivalent to two (2) months amortization for existing originator or six (6) months amortization for new originator
Lease Purchase Agreement (LPA)
Proof of Road Right of Way
Real Estate Mortgage (REM)
Collection Agreement between CA and SHFC
Deed of Assignment of Loan Proceeds from CA to Landowner
Loan Agreement

In fairness to the current set of officers, in two years (which seems to be very long), they were able to obtain and accomplish the following forms:

Project Basic Information Sheet
Landowner Letter of Intent to Sell
Preliminary Approval and Locational Clearance (PALC) with supporting documents including Subdivision Plan, Lot Plan and Vicinity Map
Present Title
HLURB Registration and Incorporation/Code of By-Laws and list of current officers and members of the Board of Directors of CA signed by the Originator
Master list of beneficiaries
CA’s Board Resolution/Secretary’s Certificate to purchase property, to obtain loan from SHFC-CMP, and to mortgage the property as security for the loan to be obtained

I hope that the residents of Square Ville HOAI would make wise decisions in voting for their next set of officers. They’re hoping that Pasig City Urban Poor Service Office Head, Nonesio R. Rivera, would speed up the process.

They’re also hoping that the newly-elected officers of the Pasig City Government, Mayor Maribel Eusebio and Vice Mayor Iyo Bernardo, would assist in any way they can, to hasten the process, not just for Square Ville HOAI but for all the 10 homeowners association that is occupying Nagpayong, Pasig City.

Transform yourself with Schick

It would be fabulous to be a superhero for a day. How much more fun it would be to be the Man of Steel for a week? If I had the powers of the MAN OF STEEL for one week, I would use it in a tight schedule like this and do the following:

Monday – I’ll use my X-Ray Vision to scan the planet of all nuclear missiles and weapons of mass destruction and throw it to deep space. I’ll also help nations to end civil wars and create peace treaties between these rival countries.

Tuesday – I’ll use my Cool Breathe to restore the ice on both Antarctica and the Arctic Region to its status 100 years ago to reverse the effect of Global Warming. I’ll also create a new island in the Pacific where I could collect the world’s endangered species and secure a future for these animals.

Wednesday – I’ll use my strength to create new rivers that will irrigate the world’s driest places and countries so that people could plant crops and be self-sufficient when it comes to food. I will also plant trees to the worlds heavily destroyed forests.

Thursday – I’ll collect the entire garbage of the world and bury it deep into the Earth’s inner core so that it will return to its basic form – magma. I will clean the world’s landfills.

Friday – I will transport men to Mars and build a facility there so that our brightest scientist will learn how to adapt to a new planet. I’ll probably bring the Bottled City of Kandor to Mars and restore it to its former glory.

Saturday – I will scan the planet for hidden deposits of oil so that nations would not rely much on the Middle East for its supply of the Black Gold. I would also search for possible Geothermal Sites and places where Wind Power is a big potential. I’ll also scan the planet for other mineral deposits to help developing countries with their economy.

Sunday – I will take a rest from saving the world and would have a fan’s day. I’ll sign autographs, pose with fans and the kids, held press conference, and remind the citizens of the world what a true heroism is – saving the planet.

Attend Level Up Live 2013 on July 6, 2013

The biggest gaming event in the country, Level Up Live 2013, will be held on July 6, 2013 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.

Level Up Live 2013 is the annual gathering of players from Ragnarok Online, Grand Chase, Eligium, Cabal and other games hosted by Level Up Games (LUG). This event is usually set on the last quarter of the year but since LUG merged with e-Games (who host games like Ran Online), it followed the usual date of Domination.

Instead of the usual 2-day event, LUG changed it again to a single day event. They already made decision last 2011 and it was not worth it. I don’t understand why they would jam-packed all the events in a single day. I really feel that it’s not enough.

Anyway, my guild mates from Ragnarok Online (New Loki server) will be there. Are you going to this amazing event?

Street Photography Near Napindan Bridge

I met a fellow photographer yesterday. His name is Gilbert and he masters street photography. He's also from Nagpayong, Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City -- just walking distance from our house. We're both Canon EOS 1100D users and both have G-Shock watch.

The Napindan Bridge is between Taguig City and Pasig City, along C-6 Road.

Gilbert is 6 years my senior, a graphic artist with past experience in animation (Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon) and comics (Funny Comics). He's married with two kids and also do part-time job as wedding photographer. He's also a contributor to newspapers as a photo-journalist.

We had a photowalk yesterday at the Napindan Bridge (C-6) and we took pictures of the numerous kids who are flying kites there. I also took pictures of the Napindan Bridge for our monthly (themed) contest at the photography club. Although the weather is gloomy yesterday, we still manage to come up with decent pictures. I was surprised to know that Gilbert is quite known among the local since, according to him, he's been taking pictures of the place (and people) for almost 3 years now.

Street photography and photo-journalism are branches of photography which I intend to master soon. It involves interaction with the subjects (people) and I'm not the best person when it comes to interacting with people. I also don't have a zoom lens which will be very effective in street photography. Gilbert also doesn't have a zoom lens. In fact, we're both using our kit lens but I was amazed at how he managed to take amazing street photography pictures with the same model of camera that I'm using. He's indeed talented.

I can tell that Gilbert is a great street photographer and I'm looking forward for more photowalks with him. After all, Nagpayong, Pasig City is a great place for street photography. There is so much drama here at Nagpayong, Pasig City. We just need to capture these dramas by means of our lenses.

My 2nd Time at Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort

Last May 12, 2013 was my second time at Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort (part of the greater Hacienda Escudero Estate). The first one was during the Canon PhotoMarathon 2012 Luzon Leg. This 2nd trip to Villa Escudero is very different than the first one in the sense that I was able to see more facilities of Hacienda Escudero. I was with my photography friends this year compared to last year where I went there solo.

The means of travel also changed. Last year, I commute via bus and this year, I was in a car. The travel time is faster and less of a hassle. The first thing that I notice this year was the chapel where the mass was held.

I thought I travelled all the corners of Villa Escudero last year but I was surprised that there is a chapel. I doubt that this chapel was built within 1 year. So I probably missed it because there are a lot of houses before you reach the chapel. I probably thought that I was entering a residential area that is why I wasn't able to see the chapel last year.

Also, the Dining Hall besides the river is already completed. It was still on its construction phase last year during the Canon PhotoMarathon 2012 and it's nice to see that it's finished. It huge and gives a magnificent view of the river. There was also a fluvial parade that happened and this is something that I never saw last year as well.

Last May 12, 2013, Hacienda Escudero celebrated the Feast of the Ascension of Jesus. This event happened 40 days after his Resurrection but is usually happens on the following Sunday. Initially, when I saw the rear side of the chapel, there was a bas relief celebrating the Assumption of Mary (to heaven). I thought that it was the feast that Hacienda Escudero is celebrating. I only found out that it was actually the Ascension of Jesus that is being celebrated when the image of The Risen Christ was carried from the chapel to the Fluvial Float.

After the mass at the chapel (where everyone wears Filipiñana), there was the fluvial parade that I mentioned and a short program at the Grand Pavilion (where the Canon PhotoMarathon 2012's program was also held). The guest of honor was no other than Dulce! Her performance of her hit songs awed us, the audience. She is a regular guest to this yearly event at Hacienda Escudero and she's a personal favorite of Mang Ado (the owner of Villa Escudero).

The lunch and meryenda that followed were very delicious. In fact, I had a second serving of Pansit Sotanghon, Murkon, Potato Salad, among others. There was also unlimited Sorbetes (Ice Cream) for everyone and Ginataang Bilo-Bilo. The Escudero family was very generous to their guests and the staff as well since they also had their own salu-salo later in the afternoon at Ka Ado's residence.

Last year, during the Canon PhotoMarathon 2012, we were not granted access to have a tour of Ka Ado's residence -- at least the garden outside of their ancestral home. I'm very delighted that they opened the gates of their residence to the guests and staff. There was a Japanese garden as well besides the house and an elegant restaurant as well.

It rained in the afternoon and we were unable to take more pictures of the vicinity of Hacienda Escudero but it was a very memorable experience. We thank the staff and the Escudero Family for inviting us to their wonderful celebration of the Feast of the Ascension of Jesus. I'll definitely be coming back next year!

The Delicious Yummy Eats 2013 Event (Part 1 of 2)

The People

I just came home from attending the Yummy Eats 2013 organized by Yummy Magazine, Nuffnang Philippines, among others. It was held at the NBC Tent, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

The NBC Tent in Bonifacio Global City is a favorite venue of events related to foods, cooking and eating.

More than 50 exhibitors were present during this delicious event. My friend Neil and I enjoyed all the foods at Yummy Eats 2013. We barely tasted half of the food offered by the exhibitors.

This one day event for food lovers is filled with cooking demos, eating contests, and tips from renowned chefs. The Yummy Eats 2013 is also filled with celebrities (including Nene of Pinoy Big Brother 1), bloggers, moms, the media and people who love delicious foods. AJ of Nuffnang Philippines were there at the event as well as other Nuffnangers.

This event is made possible by sponsors including Hunts, McCormick, Magnolia, King Sue, among others. Exhibitors includes Ramesh, Sweet Ideas, The Kitchen Slave, ManilaQ, Edgy Veggy, Pepita’s Kitchen, 25 Mushrooms Kitchen, Viveca’s, Paper Chic Studio, Joax Ingredients, among others.

Thank you again Yummy and Nuffnang Philippines for giving me the opportunity to experience a day filled with delicious foods. I’ll post the pictures of the foods tomorrow. For now, let’s take a look at the participants and exhibitors.

Kettle Korn: Poppin’ Fun All The Time!

If I were to star in my own movie, the story would revolve around the events following the 2007 hit "The Love of Siam". The sequel will be called "The Love of Siam 2: Struggles of Love". Mario Maurer will reprise his role as Tong while I would be Mew (since Witwisit Hiranyawongkul is busy filming his latest movie).

The Plot

Tong's mother, still fearful that her son is indeed gay after witnessing his prolong kiss with Mew, sent Tong to their relatives in Singapore, to pursue his college. He eventually made it to the prestigious School of Photography Singapore. Mew stayed in Thailand and took a degree in Music at The College of Music, Mahidol University.

Mario Maurer would reprise his role as Tong in the upcoming sequel to the 2007 hit: “The Love of Siam 2: Struggles of Love” with Filipino indie film actor, El Toro Bumingo.

Six years passed and Tong became a successful photographer in Singapore. Tong, now 22 years old, is still single in spite of his success. He now owns a studio in Singapore but still doesn't have a girlfriend. His mother Sunee, fearful that her son could be gay, tried to hook up Tong so several beautiful girls in Singapore but to no success.

Back to Thailand, Mew continued to be a successful songwriter and singer. The success of their band, August, would reach other Asian countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore due to the popularity of K-Pop and Asian talents. An invitation from a record label in Singapore would bring Mew and Tong in contact with his first love for the first time in 6 years.

Would Tong follow his mother's advice to follow the norm, get married and have a family? Would Mew finally make his move to fight for his love for Tong? Would their love story have a happy ending all along? "The Love of Siam 2: Struggles of Love" opens November 2013.

According to the Twitter account of SM Aura Premier, it is set to open on May 17, 2013. This will be the latest SM Mall to be open in the country and the first SM Supermall in Taguig City.

According to Wikipedia, SM Aura Premier will be located along C5 Road corner M.H. del Pilar Drive near the Sampaguita Interchange. It is situated near Market! Market! (owned by Ayala Malls).

Saint John the Baptist Parish Church, Taytay, Rizal

I first visited the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Taytay, Rizal on October 2, 2011. I brought my Canon A495 digital camera at that time. My 2^nd visit to this church was in December 2012. At that time, I already have my Canon EOS 1100D camera.

The statue of Saint John the Baptist adorn the façade of the Taytay Church which was dedicated to him.

Saint John the Baptist Parish Church is located at Barangay San Isidro, Taytay, Rizal. It was founded in 1579. The current Parish Priest is Msgr. Pedro C. Cañonero.

There is a marker on the church in Tagalog but let me re-post here my translation of it (which appeared also on Elmer Loves Oreo):

“Previously made from light materials, it was constructed by Franciscan missionaries near the Laguna Bay in 1579. It was separated as the church of Santa Ana de Sapa in 1583. It was transferred to its present location by Father Pedro Chirino in 1591 and the town was named Saint John of Monte. It was the first stone-church outside of Manila. It was rebuilt as the second stone-church, which is larger, by Father Juan de Salazar in 1630. The roof of the church was destroyed by a strong typhoon in 1632. It was repaired under the Secular in 1768, and under the Augustinian Rekoletos in 1864. It was again burned during the Filipino-American War in 1899. It was expanded to sustain the growing population during the early years of 1970s”

For most of us, we know who Saint John the Baptist is. He was the cousin of Jesus of Nazareth who baptized him in the river Jordan. What I don’t know was that John the Baptist was mentioned by the famous 1st Century Roman-Jewish historian Flavius Josephus and that he is also a prophet in the Muslim faith.

In the famous book Antiquities of the Jews, John the Baptist was mentioned in Book 18. It’s significant because it confirms the authenticity of the Bible as a historical book as well.

St. Clement Parish Church, Angono, Rizal

According to Philippine Mass Schedule, the St. Clement Parish Church in Angono, Rizal was founded in 1933. It is located at Doña Aurora Street, Barangay Poblacion Ibaba, Angono, Rizal. As of 2010, the Parish Priest is Father Rodney Cruz.

Taken around 5:30 in the morning.

In an interview by Denise Alyanna Cruz to Father Rodney Cruz and 2 other resource people, the present day church was constructed since 1877. Prior to that, there was already a church at Biga, which was damaged by an earthquake in 1863. The people decided not to repair the church at Biga but instead, they focused on the cogon chapel at Ibaba. Here is the timeline of the construction of the present day Church of St. Clement:

1865 – The residents began enlarging the cogon chapel at Ibaba.
1877 -- Construction of the church at Ibaba began.
1866 – The church was finished but it was made of light materials (Mulawin posts, cogon roof, and bamboo sidings)
1881 -- An episcopal permit was issued to construct the church of its present-day material.
1930 -- The bell tower was finished.
1938 -- Another big copper bell was installed.
1955 -- The window frames and panels, the bell tower, and the Convent were renovated.
1952 – The Glorietta, where the statue of the “Christ the King” is located, was made.
1967 – The Kindergarten School was added.

The Church of Angono was dedicated to Saint Clement of Rome (also known as Pope Clement I). He was the Catholic Pope from the year 92 to 99 and is considered as the first Apostolic Father of the Church and the 4^th Pope after St. Peter, Linus, and Cletus (Anacletus).

In works of art, he can be recognized by having an anchor at his side. The Anchored Cross or Mariner's Cross is also referred to as St Clement's Cross, in reference to the way he was martyred. He was thrown to the sea tied on a Mariner’s Cross.

The people of Angono, being adjacent to Laguna de Bay (a lake), chose St. Clement to be their patron saint. In fact, November 23 is the feast day of St. Clement and it is also the town fiesta of Angono, Rizal.

My first visit to St. Clement Parish Church in Angono was December last year. I decided to have a tour of Taytay, Angono and Binangonan and take pictures of their parish churches. I was amazed by the sheer number of bas relief that lined up along Doña Aurora Street. I found out that day that Angono is the Art Capital of the Philippines and several National Artists came from this town. I would definitely visit Angono during their Town Fiesta.

Iyo Bernardo Versus Rodrigo Asilo in Pasig City

It is one week before the National and Local Election of 2013. I’m done with some research on the senatorial candidates and I already come up with the 12 senators that I'll be voting on May 13, 2013.

My research is also finished when it comes to the local candidates here in Pasig City, particularly the candidates for Vice Mayor and Congressman. I no longer bother doing some research on the opponents of Maribel Eusebio since they are almost unknown. I also didn't research individually on the candidates for councilor since I'll be voting the same party as with my chosen Vice Mayor.

There are 4 candidates for the Vice Mayor post but I believe it would be a close fight between the two councilors Iyo Christian C. Bernardo and Rodrigo B. Asilo. For a busy guy like me who can't afford to listen to these candidates speeches on their campaign trail, I rely solely on the Internet to research what their political platforms are.

Let's start with Rodrigo B. Asilo since I'm a resident of Pinagbuhatan. Every day on my way to and from work, I passed by the Pinagbuhatan Barangay Hall on my way home to Nagpayong (a sub-Barangay of Pinagbuhatan). Although I've been living in Pinagbuhatan for more than 9 years, I was never interested with politics until recently when I began blogging.

Pinagbuhatan, particularly Nagpayong, is considered as Asilo-Eusebio Country. I don't know the history of this place but what I've heard is that Nagpayong was purchased by the City Government of Pasig City and was distributed (sold) to the former squatters of Nagpayong, through the efforts of Rodrigo B. Asilo and his wife as well as that of the Eusebio clan.

In my 9 years of stay here at Pinagbuhatan, I haven't seen any change at all when it comes to infrastructure, except for the repair of Sandoval Avenue (which was done in time for the election). I also never saw Rodrigo B. Asilo and his wife, the Barangay Chairman of Pinagbuhatan, here at Nagpayong.

I Google Rodrigo B. Asilo to find out what his plans for Pasig City and I'm surprised that he didn't even invested on a propaganda video (or a Facebook account) for voters like me who's on the Internet all the time. The only video I found on YouTube about him is his dance number in the tune of his campaign jingle. Speaking of his campaign jingle, I hear about it every day since he has this tricycle that plays it near the Day Care Center on a daily basis. In fact, it's past midnight and I heard that jingle again! Probably the tricycle is at Sandoval Avenue on its way to Pinagbuhatan proper. His jingle goes:

I can say that his tactics (continuous playing of his jingle song) is very effective since the kids in our neighborhood can sing along to it. If I Google "Rodrigo Asilo" on the Net, I get very few results. I got one that mentioned his involvement in the Supplementary Feeding Program and the other one is the resolution to a property scam in Pasig City. He has no other information on the Net other than that. I can't even get his details from the Net and he has very few fan-pages on Facebook.

Liberal Party Iyo Caruncho Bernardo but with some blessing from President Pnoy?

In contrast to his opponent, Iyo Christian C. Bernardo is very visible online. He has SEVERAL Facebook fan-page accounts, a website and even blog posts that are suspicious (those that contain 1 or 2 articles and talks only about him). He also invested on an infomercial on YouTube and it's a good one. He mentioned his family background and what he wanted to do as a future Vice Mayor. He's very good with his ad campaign.

His personal information is everywhere on the Net: Iyo Christian C. Bernardo is the grandchild of former Pasig Mayor Emiliano Caruncho Jr (1956-1986), nephew of Emiliano Caruncho III (Pasig Councilor from 1988-1994) and his aunt is former Pasig Vice Mayor Lorna Bernardo. Some of Iyo Caruncho's dreams for Pasig City are Free Wi-Fi, Tax Discount, and Scholarship Grants for Teachers, among others.

I don't know him personally but when I saw his picture, I remember this incident last 2012 Pasig City Day. I attended the thanksgiving mass in front of the City Hall and I was there very early in the morning. There are few people who were sitting on the front row, including me. Then, an aide of one of the councilors approached me and asked if I could vacate my seat. I vacated my seat but I took a picture of who the councilor is so that I could take note of him. I reviewed that picture today and found out that it was Iyo Bernardo – with his spike hairstyle!

So I'm now on a dilemma – I have to choose between two evils. One is a traditional politician who relies on jingles and the mass votes of informal settlers (including me). The other is hip, has hordes of followers on Facebook and (suspicious) blogs, and a bit arrogant (first impression). Rodrigo B. Asilo is on the same party as with Maribel Eusebio (which I'm not a big fan) and has Red as official color. His opponent, Iyo Christian C. Bernardo, is somehow being endorsed by President Pnoy and has Yellow as his official color.

After writing this blog post, I decided to vote for Iyo Christian C. Bernardo for Vice Mayor of Pasig City. I’ll also vote his councilors. When it comes to Congressman, I decided to go for Jun Salatandre. I probably write about that soon.

I’m Not Voting For These Senators Because…

Now here are my reasons why I’m not voting for the senators that didn’t make it on that said list. I know some of my reasons are lame and pathetic but it’s my 1 vote. As far as my 1 vote is concern, I’m voting from my conscience.

ALCANTARA, SAMSON (SJS)

Alcantara began working as a law professor in 1967, specializing in political law and labor law. At present, he serves as a law professor for the University of Santo Tomas, the Manuel L. Quezon University, the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, the University of the East, and the New Era University.
Why I'm not voting for him? Although he has an impressive resume, he's generally unknown to the public. I even have to Google him to get information about him. He has a very slim chance on landing on the Top 12. A waste of vote in my opinion.

BELGICA, GRECO (DPP)

(DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF THE PHILIPPINES)

Christian, Pastor.
Why I'm not voting for him? I believe that he should focus on his religious obligation than immerse himself in politics. Similar to Samson Alcantara, he's generally unknown and has a slim chance of winning.

BINAY, NANCY (UNA)

(UNITED NATIONALIST ALLIANCE)

Between 1998 and 2001 she performed administrative duties as personal assistant to her mother who was the then Mayor of Makati liaising between the Mayor's office and other governmental departments and offices as well as with the private sector.
From 2010 she has been functioning as personal assistant to her father who is the current Vice President and head of the Housing department. In this role she liaises between the Office of the Vice President and the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, as well as with other local government offices on matters related to housing.
Is Nancy Binay a messenger running for Senator? That is the question.
Why I'm not voting for her? I'm not impressed with her resume. Anyone can be a personal assistant to one's parents.

CAYETANO, ALAN PETER (NP)

Why I'm not voting for him? I was very pissed off on how he and Juan Ponce Enrile argued on national TV about debts. I find his performance as a Senator unimpressive.

On September 11, 2007 Estrada introduced Senate bill 1556, proposing to make ROTC mandatory for all college students.
Why I'm not voting for him? Although he has an impressive record as Senator, I dislike the Estrada clan in general simply because they have been in power for so long. I don't like political dynasty.

ENRILE, JUAN PONCE "JACK" JR.(NPC)

Responsible for shooting to death the son of a former Navy officer during a party altercation in 1975, said a TV report that quoted a Catholic priest, the uncle of the victim. Source
His political career started in 1998 as Representative of the 1st District of Cagayan in the Congress of the Philippines, serving from 1998–2007 and from 2010 to present. He is the principal author of the Batas Kasambahay, Food for Filipinos First, Credit Access and Protection Reform and the Anti-Monopoly Bill.
Enrile was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of JAKA Investments Corporation and the JAKA Group of Companies from 1994 to 1998.
He founded the Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA) in 1982. He is the President of PPSA. Enrile is also the Regional Director of the International Practical Shooting Confederation.
Why I'm not voting him? I don't like his father and I believe, like father like son. I don't believe in political dynasty as well.

Why I'm not voting him? I'm not impressed with his performance as Senator. He never overcame his image as former rebel.

LLASOS, MARWIL (KPTRAN)

Atty. Llasos worked as an Instructor in Social Science, heading the Social Science Department, and was the coordinator for Research, Extension and Development Services of Computer Arts and Technological College in Old Albay District, Legazpi City from 1996 to 1998.
After finishing his Bachelor of Laws, he served as Law Education Specialist in the Institute of International Legal Studies of the UP Law Center in 2005. In 2006, he taught in The Manila Times Institute for Paralegal Studies while practicing law in various firms. He became a professional lecturer at the School of Law and Jurisprudence of Centro Escolar University in Makati City in 2009.
Llasos is currently teaching Economics, Philippine Government and Constitution, and other law subjects at Siena College in Quezon City and Siena College of San Jose in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.

She has filed bills in the areas of education, juvenile justice, gender equality, empowerment, anti-trafficking and anti-pornography.[6] She has also authored bills on the protection of the indigenous peoples and their ancestral domain as well as the protection and conservation of the environment.
She likewise sponsored bills advancing national economic interests, such as the repeal of the Downstream Oil Industry Deregulation Act of 1998, as well as measures seeking to place LPG under price control and for the recovery of PETRON and Malampaya.
She recently filed a bill repealing RA 7942, the "Mining Act of 1995" and a bill for the imposition of a total log ban.[citation needed] Both bills aim to protect the last remaining natural resources from wholesale plunder.
She was elected during the 2004 general elections as a Senator. She ran for president in the 2010 presidential elections but lost.
Why I'm not voting for her? I'm not impressed with her performance when she had the power. Why give her the power again?

Why I'm not voting for him? Like most Filipinos, I'm not impressed with someone from the PC, INP or PNP.

PENSON, RICARDO

He is a Filipino business executive and social activist. At present, he is the president and chief executive officer of Ausphil Tollways Corporation, a Manila-based infrastructure development company.[1][2] He is currently running as an independent candidate for the 2013 Philippine Senate elections.[2]
He advocates for an end to political dynasties in the Philippines and believes that family members should be prohibited from running for public office regardless of the place or position.[3] In November 2012, he launched the Krusada Kontra Dynasty movement in order to further campaign for this advocacy. If elected as senator, he vows to pass a bill prohibiting political dynasties and that he would resign if it fails to become a law.[4]
Why I'm not voting for him? I like his point of view about the political dynasty in the country. However, I don't think he'll win. I'll just allot my vote for him to someone that shares the same view but has higher chances of winning.

PIMENTEL, KOKO (PDP)

Pimentel filed an electoral protest against Zubiri in the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET). The SET resolved to proceed with the protest finding grounds for a recount.[6] Pimentel won the protest and was proclaimed as the rightful winner on August 11, 2011, days after Zubiri resigned.[7]
Why I'm not voting for him? I can't find an impressive bill that he authored even on the Senate website.

SEÑERES, CHRISTIAN (DPP)

Buhay Hayaan Yumabong (Let Life Prosper) is a party-list in the Philippines founded by El Shaddai leader Mike Velarde.
The closest health-related Republic Act involving BUHAY party list is RA 9502 or the “Universally Accessible Cheaper and Quality Medicines Act of 2008,” an act prescribing special measures to lower the cost of medicines and other purposes.
Why I'm not voting for him? I'm not impressed with his career as a Buhay Party-List Representative. Why give him a higher post if he did absolutely nothing on the smaller role?

TRILLANES, ANTONIO IV (NP)

Similar to Koko Pimentel, he has no bills authored even on the Senate website.
Why I'm not voting for him? His political career centered on the Manila Peninsula Incident. Such a waste of people's fund if ever he received full senator's wages all this time.

Villanueva is against homosexuality; he said in an interview "Sabi ng Good Book, huwag gayahin 'yung nangyari sa Sodom and Gomorrah dahil darating ang paggunaw sa isang bansa 'pag 'yun ay ginawa" (According to the Good Book, don't imitate what happened in Sodom and Gomorrahbecause judgement will befall on the country if it's done.)
Why I'm not voting for him? I believe Senators should champion the people's right not his religion's belief. Also, like what I said about JC delos Reyes, I offer the song "Di Na Natuto" to Eddie Villanueva.

VILLAR,CYNTHIA (NP)

I don't know why the word "HANEPBUHAY" is listed on her name on the COMELEC website. Is that her middle name now?
Why I'm not voting for her? I hate political dynasty and personalities who are "tatanga-tanga sa interview" (people who are stupid when it comes to interviews). Tirahin mo ba naman yung isang grupo ng mga professional eh sino matutuwa sa 'yo (She criticized a group of professionals so nobody is happy about that).

Election 2013 is fast approaching and earlier at work, since we were on avail, I decided to Google all the senatorial candidates. I also decided to write down the 12 senators that I’m voting this coming May 13, 2013 election. Most of these candidates have proven track records. Others are newbies when it comes to being a Senator (hopefully). I selected some because of their numerous years in public service in their respective district and cities.

There are other senatorial candidates out who have impressive resume but are relatively unknown and have slim chance of winning, thus, I decided not to include them in my list.

My Experience with Cloud Technology

My first encounter with Cloud technology was with SkyDrive -- the online storage of Microsoft. This was in 2009 when I started to backup my Office documents on the Cloud instead of burning it on a CD. It was also very convenient since I can download my documents on any computer that is connected to the Internet. It's an alternate way instead of backing up on a flash drive which has the tendency to get corrupted.

Then I met the program Dropbox, which is very similar in concept to SkyDrive. I was able to backup even more files on the Cloud. Dropbox also gave the option for a public link to the files that's on my Dropbox storage. This allowed me to share those files to my friends by sending the unique link. The free storage provided by Dropbox (2 GB) is smaller in comparison with SkyDrive (7 GB).

At the same time that I discovered Dropbox, I also discovered Google Drive and Photobucket. I haven't tried Google Drive extensively yet but I'm currently backing up my photographs on Photobucket. I've been using Photobucket almost the same time as I played Ragnarok (2003). In fact, my earliest screenshots are stored there. It's also a great Cloud storage website.

I also discovered Zoho.com sometime in 2011 wherein I could type a document and save it on the Cloud. This made me realized that the trend in Word processing (and other Office applications) is slowly shifting towards Cloud technology. In fact, after the release of MS Office 2013, Microsoft released the web-based equivalent of that and named it Office 365. I haven't tried Office 365 yet but I'm guessing that it's almost identical to Office 2013 but all the installation files will be saved on the Microsoft server.

When I worked for Samsung last year, I discovered the use of Google Docs and Google Drive (online storage). We use it to share documents among our peers since our email program is not as good as Outlook. By the way, I’m only using the Word Processing software of Google Docs.

Now that I'm working for Microsoft, I just discovered today the Microsoft Office Web Apps! It's the equivalent program of Google Docs. It's very much similar to the look and feel of the desktop Office 2010 that I'm using. I like the interface of Office Web Apps better than Zoho and Google Docs.

The most prominent feature of Microsoft Office Web Apps (Word) that I'm using right now is the Word Count that is on the bottom of the page. This is very helpful in writing essays that requires a minimum number of words. I also notice that the default file extension of this Word document that I'm typing right now is .docx which means that it can be opened by MS Word 2007 and above only. It's also good to know that both Google Docs and Microsoft Office Web Apps come with Spelling checker.

Customers will be delighted to know that they have an alternate to Office 2013 (in case they don't want to purchase it) if they are only using the MS Word for simple word processing. I believe the Internet is indeed moving towards a society with almost-everything-is-free software.
