Fund raiser for typhoon victims

With all the calamity going on in the Philippines from typhoon Haiyan, I thought about some ways my family can help to people affected by the recent disaster.

Here's the t-shirt I've created...

We thought about some kind of fund raiser and donate the proceeds to a local organization up in the Redwood City, CA that will make sure the proceeds get to the proper people. I thought of selling t-shirts as a way to generate funds but it can be pretty expensive to buy different sizes of tee shirts and have them printed with your design logo. Also it can be difficult distributing the finished product as well as collecting the money. If you try to use an online printing website to make your tee shirts, you risk a low quality product because not many online printing companies give quality printing at an affordable price. Then I learned about Teespring. They help me turn my tee shirt fundraising charity into a reality by not having to have any up front cost. They even gave several ideas of other people using their website to promote teeshirts.

One was a little girl who had an amazing opportunity to travel to Budapest and Hungary this summer with the Touring choir of the children’s chorus of Maryland. She had printed tee shirts with the words “Bunny Girl Gings" in Hungary.

The other idea was about some parents that wanted to bring their new adopted baby home from the hospital but couldn’t since they didn’t have enough money to pay the bill so they had a fundraiser to help pay to bring home their new baby. The tee shirt say’s “ Love makes a family", we’re adopting.

Tonight’s dinner

It’s raining today and cold; I thought soup would be perfect for tonight’s dinner. So, I made my comfort food and I am very fortunate that I have all the ingredients. I am also thinking of my husband when he comes home from work and with this kind of nasty weather all he would want to do is have some hot soup. We call this soup “tinolang manok” or chicken soup. I use chayote and moringa horseradish tree leaves. This is one of the most popular soups for Filipinos; we pretty much make this almost everyday back in the Philippines. This is one of my husband’s favorite Filipino food.

Many people here in America are so busy these days doing shopping for the Thanksgiving Day. A lot of family reunions and get together parties will be going on. We don’t partake to it though because this kind of celebration is not biblical and besides we are thankful for what we have every single day. Anyway, I know many women out there are so occupied shopping for their party outfits/dresses for these coming holidays. Well, I’m hoping that they will find some time shopping online because there are a lot of nice dresses that they might find appealing to their standard. Baking time!

This is the time of the year where baking is very popular. Baking helps the people at home to have a nice and warm atmosphere without using any heater. My husband bakes most of the time but not breads though. I hope my husband makes these bread one of these days. These are Filipino breads and they are really good. Well, if my husband can’t bake I can always get them at my favorite place, Valerio’s bakeshop over at seafood city. These are good with coffee. I took pictures of it when my friend asked me to buy some for her. I particularly love the ensaymada and the Spanish bread.

Just a thought

My husband and I thought about retiring in the Philippines that way we can be more closer to our immediate families and our kids can play with their cousins, but after all the many destructive natural disasters had stricken my country and have caused damages in many cities made us think twice. I don’t know if it’s a good idea to move over there. I’m not saying that I don’t love the place where I grew up with anymore but I’m just concerned about our safety over there. Anyway, if in case we decide to move over there, for good, we will have to take some of our stuff with us if not all. I love shopping candies and sweets after the Halloween because that’s when the stores sell their candies and chocolates at a very low price. I happened to stop by at the Walgreens store the day after Halloween and I saw in the corner boxes filled with all kinds of chocolates with tags 50% discounts. I took advantage of it and grabbed 8 bags of chocolates. I believe I paid less than $10 to all of these. I was so happy because I saved a lot and I needed it for my family in the Philippines. I am sending boxes to my family in the Philippines and these chocolates were timely on sale. I’m sure they will love this chocolate and hopefully they won’t get cavities after eating it otherwise I will be blamed. LOL!

I was once a thin woman during my 20’s but right after I got pregnant I started gaining weights and it was so hard to control it. I struggled losing weight since then. I used to weigh 125 lbs. when I first arrived here in the United States of America but not anymore. My husband tells me that it is the poor diet that many people here in the States choose to have and obviously became a huge factor for obesity. If only I could turn back the time I will surely make good choices when it comes to my intake. Well, it’s never too late because I can still change my lifestyle by making good decision. I just need to be consistent and be determined to do it. I’ve actually lost 18 lbs. since March of 2013 and that’s a huge accomplishment for me. I need to lose more extra pounds by doing some regular exercise and keep an eye of my carbohydrates.

I am tempted to try diet supplements to help me lose weight. I know some friends who are taking some kind of diet pills and so far it works for them, it might work for me too. I heard positive feedback about TRIMSPA diet pills or TRIMSPA diet supplements and some known celebrities are using it. The late actress Anna Nicole used this kind of diet pill and she lost a lot of weight. Not only her, there were many testimony from many different TRIMSPA users too. They sound very convincing and who knows it will work for me too. I want to give it a try and see how it works for me. I know that nothing is impossible with the help of the science a long with a proper and regular exercise.

I am also aware that diet pills may have different reaction or side effect to each individuals but I am hoping that I will have some good results with this one. Although, I’ve had some negative side effects to the other diet pills I tried previously but I am hopeful that this one will work for me just like it did to those people who gave their opinion about the product.

Our new place

We recently move to a new place. This place is very peaceful yet strict. There are lots of dos and don’ts, not sure if we can last here like we did in our old place where we lived for 7 long years. We missed our old place but life must go on and we have to have the present and not linger on the past to move forward. We like the peacefulness here but we’re crossing our fingers to until when we’re going to stay here.

It is of great advantage to have someone in the household knows the mechanical work because then you don’t have to go to the auto dealership or auto shop to have your broken car fix. It will also help the household save a lot of money when they can fix their own cars. However, it’s case-to-case basis. My husband is a mechanic by profession and he works for the bus company here in our place but it will be hard for him to fix his own car when it breaks because the place that we just moved in won’t allow us to do auto repair in the property, which is really sad. And the fact that he is having trouble with his car at the moment and need some fixing thing to do, he does not have a lot of choice but to send his car to one of the Grand Rapids auto repair shops and have them take care of the auto problem. My husband may have to spend more money but at least his car is well taken cared of and in good hands. They’ve been in the business for over 80 years and rest assured that they know what they are doing when it comes to automotive repairs and with their professional and friendly staff it won’t be hard making business with them.

It feels like I had a very long day today. Although it wasn’t that busy day for me but it feels like I’m so worn out. Maybe because of the too much sun exposure, we went to the beach this afternoon right after Walmart shopping. My kids and I commuted to WalMart and it was warm standing too long at the bus stop. It was unplanned shopping, I could have waited until tomorrow because my husband is off of work but I decided to go anyway since it was boring at home and my kids were nagging me to take them somewhere. On our way home we stopped at the beach with my shopping bags with me and I let the kids play for a little bit. There were a lot of people at the beach today. Families and friends were enjoying their BBQ while their kids were playing in the playground and making sand castles. I see many people smoking too; I stay away from them because I get nauseated whenever I smell the smoke. Some of them were using electronic cigarettes, seems like many people are getting into it compared to the traditional ones that my father used to smoke.

I’ve heard that it comes with variety of flavors, which I think it’s interesting. I remember when we were still living in our old apartment and our window was opened when I accidentally inhaled the smoke that our neighbor smoked and I noticed that it smells kind of like strawberries but I got headache because I’m allergic to any smokes regardless of its scents. Then I overheard them talking about the e-cigs and its flavors. I see many celebrities are using this too, especially those housewives of the reality TV series shows I’ve watched.

Anyway, my kids were so tired too when we got home but they still managed to enjoy their bubble bath. I had to bribe them for bubble bath just so they will agree to leave the beach this afternoon otherwise they’ll throw fits and whine, I can’t tolerate any ugly behavior since I’m already tired and exhausted at the time.

Finally, today my friend made it and is now officially called a California driver. It's a privileged. She passed her behind the wheels test and I am so happy for her. I accompanied her at the DMV to get her test done for the second time and she finally got it. She didn’t have a lot of mistakes, which is good. We went to the seafood city right after to celebrate. We bought bibingka (rice cake) and ate it over there. I taught her how to properly park the car since her husband doesn’t have a lot of time to teach her. At least now she can go wherever she wants and she can visit me whenever she feels like it too.

It feels good to be able to spend some quality time with our spouse even for just a couple of hours each day. Husband and I are taking advantage of the time when our kids are at school. We ran errands and sometimes my husband drives me around town and enjoy each other's company. He surprised me one time and drove to this beautiful local beach resort, we just walk and take pictures at the same time. We look like tourists. Moving from one place to another can be exhausting especially when you have all kinds of stuff that you have to take with you. Bitter melon

Not a lot of people appreciate this kind of vegetables because of it’s bitter taste to it. My husband hates it; I learned to love this vegetable after I saw my mom eating it with appetite. To mu curiosity I tasted and realized that it’s not bad as I thought. Since then I eat it once in awhile. I love to eat it when it is sautéed with egg. Anyway, my mother phoned me a couple of days ago letting me know that she has a lot of bitter melon harvested from a friend’s garden and she wanted me to gave it to whoever wants it. I posted it on my Facebook and said I have a free bitter melon, message me if you want some. I have friends who crave for it and so they want some. I sent it to them and they’ve already made a dish out of it and they said they love it. Do you love bitter melon? How/what do you cook it with?

I got my son a scooter a couple of months ago from Kickboard USA. So far he loves it and even my daughter plays with it too. They have to share since we only got one for them. I wish we have the budget to get another scooter for my little girl too that way they won’t argue of who’s going to use it. They pretty much use it everyday especially during school days because we walk back and forth to school and having this scooter made their walking home fun and playful. What I love about this scooter is that it glides really easy and any kids will enjoy it because it’s made for quality. I actually see many kids own this kind of scooter. It may be pricey to some people but it’s definitely worth paying for.

I actually bought a scooter for my girl but the brand was different and we ended up wasting it because she don’t like it, she likes this mini micro scooter better than the once we got for her. It’s been days now that we have hot and humid weather. This is the time when everyone wishes to have the winter-like weather. I don’t mind warm weather as long as it’s not humid. We don’t have air condition and the more we cook the more our place gets hotter and warmer. Our fan isn’t helping that much either; it’s just too hot today. According to the weatherman we will have this kind of weather until Sunday but I don’t know about that, hopefully he’s right. I want cool weather so bad. My husband is so busy cooking right now. It’s hot in here because the oven is on and he’s also making some fresh dough. I feel bad for him because he worked overtime last night and he needs some sleep but because he wants to make some potpie he’s up. I will help him though if he needs help, it’s just hard to be in the kitchen because we have a very small kitchen and two people will crash if both of us are in there, that’s how small our kitchen is. Can’t wait to try his cooking when it’s done though, I’m sure it’s good as always because he cooks it with love.
