He tells John about the sages of Sivana who knew all secrets of how to live life happily and how to fulfill one’s dreams and reach one’s destiny.

Julian relates his experiences with yogi Raman the leader of the sages of Sivana and the person who taught Julian his secrets of a happy and fulfilling life. He narrates to John the fable that contained the seven virtues for a life abundant with inner peace, joy and a wealth of spiritual gifts. He teaches how to focus on the priorities and thereby maintain a balance and simplify life. He gives examples that prove that willpower is the essential virtue of a fully actualized life.

Julian teaches John the virtue of selflessness in serving others. He asks John to embrace the present and live in the present - “Now”, never to sacrifice happiness for achievements and to savor the journey of life and live each day as his last one. At the end he asks John to spread these secrets for the benefit of other people. Embracing John like the brother he never had, Julian leaves.

For the reader who might be in the rat race for material success and money, this book might be food for thought. But the message is a trifle too clichéd and the lectures too pedantic for the reader who is more or less conversant with the principles and insights garnered by Julian Mantle from the sages of Sivana. The presentation in the form of a story redeems the book to some extent. The book might perhaps be more satisfactory for readers who are unfamiliar with and hungry for oriental wisdom. All in all, a book of wisdom.

I came across a very interesting article on www.spabeautyschools.com yesterday and thought I would share it with all of you fellas.

The History of Razors

30,000 B.C.

Cavemen get vain. Smart archeological people figure out that the earliest shaving razors were made of flint blades, which started out incredibly sharp, but dulled after use. Yes, cavemen used disposables.

3000 B.C.

Metal mania. Thanks to a lot of metal clanging and banging, copper razors (which make for a more “permanent” solution) make their way into the mainstream… well, if you want to call Egypt and India the mainstream of the B.C. era.

1500 – 1200 B.C.

Designer razors. Leave it to the Scandinavians to bring style to the art of shaving. Razors discovered from this time period were adorned with etchings of cool stuff like horses, and came in cute leather carrying cases. Seriously!

500 B.C.

Alexander the Clean Shaven. Apparently the “great” one was obsessed with having a smooth complexion. Legend has it that he wouldn’t be seen in battle before shaving.

300 B.C.

B.C. Barbershops. A rich Greek businessman, Publicus Ticinius Maenas, decided that he was too rich to shave himself, so he brought over professional barbers from Sicily, and started a fad. In fact, in Rome, a popular 21st birthday ritual included a first-shave party to celebrate adulthood.

50 B.C.

All hail the beardless. Speaking of Rome, Julius Caesar was very into personal grooming, down to plucking stray hairs with tweezers. As they say, when in Rome… shave like the Romans do.

1066 A.D.

Razor trickery. William the Conqueror defeats King Harold in the Battle of Hastings, in some part thanks to his army’s calculated decision to shave their faces and cut their hair to resemble monks. The deception meant that King Harold’s spies underestimated the enemy threat, and the rest is history.

New world barbering. Archeological evidence indicates that the Aztec Indians of North and Central America created razors from volcanic glass. The first hot shave?

The book on shaving. Perhaps it’s no surprise that a Frenchman literally wrote the book on shaving as an art form: The Art of Learning to Shave Oneself (La Pogonotomie). Sort of like a beauty how-to article, the guide may also be the first to introduce the concept of “safety” razor.

Who you calling a hoe? The hoe-shaped razor (resembling the farming tool) that we recognize today can be credited to English inventor William Henson. It’s all about a comfortable grip.

Shave safely. King Camp Gillette (you know, the-best-a-man-can-get guy) teams up with an MIT genius named William Nickerson to perfect the safety razor, complete with double-edged, disposable and replaceable blade. Side note: Isn’t Nickerson a funny name for a guy who wants others to shave without getting nicked?!

1914

The war on facial hair. Gilette’s popularity skyrockets worldwide after he cuts a deal with the U.S. Armed Forces to give every enlisted soldier a safety razor and blades as part of their off-to-war care package. Foreign soldiers are envious, and European sales soar.

1921

Invention intuition. Adapting a military idea for a practical use inspired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Jacob Schick to invent a new razor – the Magazine Repeating Razor. Similar to how a magazine clip contains bullets, this razor housed replacement blades right in the handle.

1928

No water required. Schick invents and patents the first electric dry shaver, great for roaring ‘20s men on the go.

1970s

Back to basics. The disposable razor, not popular since the stone ages, makes its way back into mass popularity. Cheap to make and easy to use, all of the major razor manufacturers offer a throwaway option.

Today

Some people said that it's hard to get much information out of someone in 140 characters. It may also be more difficult to obtain the truth. I've found that individuals are more honest when dealing with each other face-to-face than when using Twitter.

We'll admit that this behavior seems a little irrational; lying when the falsehood will survive online forever, depending on the fail whale's mood, isn't too smart. Still, researchers focusing on email have come to similar conclusions in the past, and in this case, the margin wasn't very close.

Opinium Research polled 2,012 adults on behalf of Direct Line, and Direct Line stated afterward, "Just one in five people (20 per cent) profess to being more truthful on Twitter or text, compared to a third (31 per cent) who state that they are more frank when speaking to someone in the flesh."

Then, if you're interested in a breakdown of the data, the statement continued, "[M]en are less likely to be honest via text than themselves (17 per cent of men compared to 21 per cent of women) . . . . [W]omen are less likely to be truthful in person than men, with 12 per cent more men claiming to be honest face to face than women."

Hopefully this research won't cause marketers too much trouble when they attempt to use Twitter.

Facebook Accused Of User ID Privacy Breach

On the heels of its big announcement with Bing, there's bad news for Facebook. The social network has been linked to an alleged "privacy breach," and plenty of people are concerned about it, although there's reason to believe the matter isn't a big deal.

The problem, which was discovered by Emily Steel and Jeffrey A. Fowler: many of Facebook's most popular apps (including games made by Zynga and LOLapps) transmitted User IDs to advertisers. Advertisers could then determine the names of an app's users, along with any info they'd made available to "everyone."

This has led to a number of discussions about leaks, breaches, and even the sale of private data. Plus, it's not just bloggers doing the talking; mainstream news shows are covering the topic this morning.

The fact that "everyone" might include a few advertisers shouldn't come as a shock, however, and it looks like most apps' developers weren't sharing UIDs on purpose.

A post on the Facebook Developer Blog explained, "In most cases, developers did not intend to pass this information, but did so because of the technical details of how browsers work." (More information on "referers" is available here.)

Later, the post promised, "Nevertheless, we are committed to ensuring that even the inadvertent passing of UIDs is prevented and all applications are in compliance with our policy."

ANDROID MARKET REACHES 1,00,000 APPS ! A MILESTONE

So far, Google hasn't celebrated with any public parties or press conferences. Not even with a short press release or tiny blog post. This morning, Google just used a Twitter account to announce the fact that the Android Market's now populated by 100,000 apps.

You can see the seven-word tweet for yourself below. It was sent from a somewhat out-of-the-way account the Android team uses to communicate with developers.

Obviously, this is a significant moment in Android's history. The milestone indicates that lots of consumers and developers have come to embrace Android, which is about all Google's asked of its free platform so far.

What's more - although this milestone is plenty important on its own - Google's quiet announcement could be a way of hinting that even greater achievements are on the way, considering that the Gingerbread version of Android seems ready to be released.

Of course, if anyone wants to conduct a comparison (and we know some of you will), one unofficial count puts the number of apps available in Apple's App Store in the neighborhood of 280,000. So Google isn't king of the mobile market in this respect just yet.

Still, it looks like Google's making sure Apple doesn't run away with the lead.

Apple announces new iPod nano with multi-touch display

The new iPod nano, which had been rumored for weeks, was confirmed Wednesday by Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs. He boasted that the new device is almost half as small and half as light as its predecessor.

"It's so small, we're able to put a clip on it too, so it's instantly wearable," he said.

Users can swipe through to choose icons including music playlists, artists and Genius mixes. It also has FM radio, podcasts, and the ability to view photos.

Like on other iOS devices, users can move icons and drag them to different pages. The device also allows users to scroll as they do on the iPhone or iPod touch.

The device includes hard volume buttons, voiceover, Nike+ and a pedometer. It works in 29 languages. Multi-touch input can also be used to rotate the screen.

It will be available in six colors, $149 for the 8GB model, and $169 for the 16GB model. The internal battery provides users with up to 24 hours of music playback on a single charge.

"This is the biggest reinvention of the iPod nano since its debut in 2005, and we think users are going to love it," Jobs said in a press release. Life seems very confusing and mysterious at times and makes us feel that we are left with no options.We curse the way we live but never try and understand that this is just another day which will pass.We don’t understand the importance of a moment until its gone neither do we realize the importance of people till they leave us.The point to understand is that we can not regulate the lives of others or even of ours but we can certainly work to make our life better.Though I am not very old but still in these years of my life I have faced a few situations where I totally lost it and since then I am regretting that how could I let that moment go.Moments are very dynamic,once gone will never come back,so the thing to remember here is that make the most of every moment that comes in your life.

12 quick and easy tips to search in a google like experts !

If you’re like me, you probably use Google many times a day. But, chances are, unless you are a technology geek, you probably still use Google in its simplest form. If your current use of Google is limited to typing a few words in, and changing your query until you find what you’re looking for, then I’m here to tell you that there’s a better way – and it’s not hard to learn. On the other hand, if you are a technology geek, and can use Google like the best of them already, then I suggest you bookmark this article of Google search tips. You’ll then have the tips on hand when you are ready to pull your hair out in frustration when watching a neophyte repeatedly type in basic queries in a desperate attempt to find something.
The following Google search tips are based on my own experience and things that I actually find useful. The list is by no means comprehensive. But, I assure you that by learning and using the 12 tips below, you’ll rank up there with the best of the Google experts out there. I’ve kept the descriptions of the search tips intentionally terse as you’re likely to grasp most of these simply by looking at the example from Google anyways.

12 Expert Google Search Tips

Explicit Phrase:
Lets say you are looking for content about internet marketing. Instead of just typing internet marketing into the Google search box, you will likely be better off searching explicitly for the phrase. To do this, simply enclose the search phrase within double quotes.

Example: "internet marketing"
Exclude Words:
Lets say you want to search for content about internet marketing, but you want to exclude any results that contain the term advertising. To do this, simply use the "-" sign in front of the word you want to exclude.

Example Search: internet marketing -advertising
Site Specific Search:
Often, you want to search a specific website for content that matches a certain phrase. Even if the site doesn’t support a built-in search feature, you can use Google to search the site for your term. Simply use the "site:somesite.com" modifier.

Example: "internet marketing" site:www.smallbusinesshub.com
Similar Words and Synonyms:
Let’s say you are want to include a word in your search, but want to include results that contain similar words or synonyms. To do this, use the "~" in front of the word.

Example: "internet marketing" ~professional
Specific Document Types:
If you’re looking to find results that are of a specific type, you can use the modifier "filetype:". For example, you might want to find only PowerPoint presentations related to internet marketing.

Example: "internet marketing" filetype:ppt
This OR That:
By default, when you do a search, Google will include all the terms specified in the search. If you are looking for any one of one or more terms to match, then you can use the OR operator. (Note: The OR has to be capitalized).

Example: internet marketing OR advertising
Phone Listing:
Let’s say someone calls you on your mobile number and you don’t know how it is. If all you have is a phone number, you can look it up on Google using the phonebook feature.

Example: phonebook:617-555-1212 (note: the provided number does not work – you’ll have to use a real number to get any results).
Area Code Lookup:
If all you need to do is to look-up the area code for a phone number, just enter the 3-digit area code and Google will tell you where it’s from.

Example: 617
Numeric Ranges:
This is a rarely used, but highly useful tip. Let’s say you want to find results that contain any of a range of numbers. You can do this by using the X..Y modifier (in case this is hard to read, what’s between the X and Y are two periods. This type of search is useful for years (as shown below), prices or anywhere where you want to provide a series of numbers.

Example: president 1940..1950
Stock (Ticker Symbol):
Just enter a valid ticker symbol as your search term and Google will give you the current financials and a quick thumb-nail chart for the stock.

Example: GOOG
Calculator:
The next time you need to do a quick calculation, instead of bringing up the Calculator applet, you can just type your expression in to Google.

Example: 48512 * 1.02
Word Definitions:
If you need to quickly look up the definition of a word or phrase, simply use the "define:" command.

Example: define:plethora

Twitter Search Volume Up by 33% Since April 2010 !

According to Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, who spoke at the Aspen Ideas Festival recently, Twitter is handling 800 million search queries per day.

At Twitter’s Chirp conference in April, Stone said Twitter was serving 600 million search queries per day — 33% less than the microblogging service is processing now.

The number reminds us of Bing’s impressive growth last year, when Nielsen reported that Microsoft’s search engine was growing 22.1% month-over-month. However, Bing was unable to continue growing at that rate; it lost 5% of its stake in the search market the very next month.

All this time, Twitter’s search has been growing; partly due to Twitter’s growth in use and users, and partly because Twitter’s real-time search is one of the best ways to find out what’s happening right now. With the recent launch of Twitter’s ad platform, a huge search volume will definitely help Twitter increase its revenue stream.

* Be active on twitter through different types of posts.
* Tweet valuable things. Don’t just try to get traffic to your blog by tweeting only about your articles. Mix your tweets with friendly content.
* Tweet about your passion in life and use #hash tag them.
* Every tweet should be independent. It shouldn’t depend on previous or any other tweet.
* Try to show the main things within first 32 characters as only they’re visible firstly until & unless s/he is your favorite friend or must following u. Persons, who are online through devices can’t able to see more than 32 characters at first.
