Do you enjoy sniper games? It is OK to admit it, you are amongst friends here. You see sniper games are one of a gamers little secrets. Society tells you that being a sniper is a dirty and underhanded way to conduct yourself in battle, but out on the battlefield anything goes. You do what needs to be done to succeed and if that means laying in wait to ambush your enemy then so be it.

In online games players dislike sniper tactics, claiming that "camping" as it is often called is somehow unfair. Surely it is up to an individual player how they choose to play a game, or fight a war? Modern battlefield games are almost exclusively aimed at small squad tactics and this is fine as far as it goes. It is just that small unit tactics should also extend to sniper and spotter teams and not just a 4 or 8 man squad; with some goon carrying a squad support machine gun. No, let's do things with a little finesse.

Ever since the phrase "One shot. One kill." was popularised some players have been drawn to games that give them an opportunity to emulate this philosophy on a virtual battlefield. This stands in sharp contrast to historical battlefields like Vietnam where the estimated number of rounds fired per enemy killed numbers into many thousands. No, that is not our way. Our way requires patience and accuracy, not not the expenditure of enough brass to remake the Liberty Bell.

Thankfully games designers are beginning to appreciate the world of the sniper. Artificial intelligence is making it possible to have an NPC spotter that doesn't get you seen and killed and won't aimlessly blaze away on full auto as soon as you are spotted. One of the PC games due for release later this year that should put these recent advances into action is Sniper: Ghost Warrior. It promises true bullet physics and much more besides. I almost feel the urge to reach for my ghillie suit and camp out to wait for its release...almost!

2010 could signal the advent of a new type of military game for the PC and other platforms. It all depends on the success or failure of this one new game. If it is a roaring success then no doubt other games design houses will make their own releases in time and the world of sniper games on the PC will flourish. Lets hope that it does.

In the gaming world, there are several options to choose from when it comes to the platform the game is being played on. There are PC games, and there are console games. The difference lies within the way the game is played.

Gaming is literally a lifestyle choice so each person prefers a slightly different approach when it comes to the way they play a game. Some like computer games, because computers allow them to customize the way they play the game along with certain tweaks in visual details and controls.

Consoles don't demand that you make such tweaks, since they're built with only games in mind. So when a game comes out and it's destined for PlayStation, then, if you own such a console, you're certain you can play that game.

But when a game comes out and it's made for PCs, then you have to check on what the system requirements that game has in order to be played properly. Since games rely heavily on the specs, or hardware of the "console" they're run, for PC users this would mean there's a constant struggle to stay ahead of the gaming developer world and build or purchase the ultimate gaming computer.

In certain cases, it's a lot easier to escape this struggle by purchasing a console and not having to worry if your system meets the necessary minimum hardware in order to run a game.

The downside to consoles is, in my opinion, the lack of precision in movements and control. For instance, if you were to play a shooter game or FPS for short, it would be really hard to aim at the opponents using a game pad.

On the other hand, when using a computer, it's really easy to aim using your mouse at the opponents since you can fine tune the mouse sensitivity and actually get the mouse to work at what speed you require.

Some peripherals allow you to adjust that sensitivity right in the gaming environment and those are called gaming peripherals. These are built only with PCs in mind.

Consoles on the other hand have developed in recent years to create a more engaging environment for the player.

We have seen a lot of new advancements in this area from the Wii remote, allowing you to physically "swing" a golf club, or in the Kinect world, actually detecting your body movements to interact in the gaming world. This means that a console user might get a bit more exercise than a regular PC gamer.

Also, there are certain games which might not work on consoles, like strategy games. These games rely heavily on the use of a computer mouse for unit selection and issuing commands.

There are a lot of advantages to PC gaming as well as console gaming, and there are specific games that can be played on both platforms, without the possibility of moving from one type to the other. It's a matter of level of engagement or immersion that each gamer requires that he get from the game itself.

A study conducted by an eminent institute of management suggests that flash game players might be more alert than their console counterparts. The study was conducted to weigh the impact of non-commercial factors on buyer purchase behaviour.

The experiment consisted of a survey designed to form two age cohorts of game players subdivided into two categories flash game players and console players. Both cohorts consisted of two focussed groups, one relating to players of flash communities and the other to those who identified as being console players.

A causal experiment was then designed to determine the responsiveness of the gaming groups in terms of 'time to response'.Experimental observations were conducted for the two age cohorts alongside extensive metrics between players of the two groups.

Experiments to gauge 'time to response' ranged from simple multiple choice pre-exposed Q&A, wherein the candidates were allowed to run through question banks prior to testing, to logical reasoning and analysis. The objective was not determining the accuracy of the answer but 'time to response' fairly accurate.

Interestingly both groups of the respective cohorts patterned different distributions for parametric testing.'Time on Game' seemed to fit into a statistical lognormal curve for flash games whereas a gamma curve for console games, this startling fact seems to suggest that flash games players gain more exposure to variety, whereas their console game counterparts are likely to get thematically stuck.

Logical reasoning and analysis, and basic math were also structured and administered into the causal analysis to further strengthen the evidence.The metrics were standardised to nullify intelligence factors and the 'time to response' argument established.

The implications of this are significant effecting both developer and player. Although the flash player spends the same amount of time playing, as a console player, the very fact that a flash game is structured to be a mini game and made available in abundance, motivates the player to experiment with different games thereby reducing the time spent on a single game perse. The domino effect is interpreted in terms of a larger experience of the 'spectrum of creativity', benefiting a larger community of game developers. This is in stark contrast to the console player whose brand and thematic loyalty is imbibed with inertia acting as a barrier to change. It is during a transition of themes that the console player exhibits thematic lethargy.

Secondly a lognormal probability distribution characterises a thinning long tail, if this is indicative of gaming addiction, then we may surmise that flash games are less addictive compared to their console counterparts.

In a nut shell it appears fair to conclude that flash games players just might be more alert and this may be attributed to the conditioning of 'time to response' in an environment which is not thematically stuck nor addictive.

For once it is fair to say that flash games like Y9 provide a player with a wider choice, variety and exposure to a larger community of creative game developers.

Well here we are, and it is 2012 as of this article's publication date - it seems book marketing has changed so much in the last five years, heck in the last two years, that any book previously written on the topic may be of little use to you, at least unless it's been updated as of this month. Consider if you will the explosion of the eBook market thanks to Amazon's Kindle sales, and their ever-trailing competitor Barnes & Noble's Nook, and in the textbook industry we have the new Apple iPad for electronic textbooks which is sure to change that segment of the book market.

As the publishing industry scrambles to even stay afloat the game-changers are accelerating and taking the entire league and all the stadiums and making it all virtual. So, what's an author to do, how should they market, and what will yield them the most bang for their marketing dollar? Yes, good question, but I would submit to you that in all this chaos are nothing short of abundant opportunities. In fact, I've been selling quite a few eBooks each month at the Kindle eStore, and I am adding more and more titles to my bookshelf each week. Why, simple, I want in on the new paradigm of book selling, where the author now holds the cards - what a wonder time to have full-control.

Indeed, with many eBooks for sale now, and several online articles - I have finally found a home. George R. R. Martin began a fantasy series of books under the name of A Song of Fire and Ice. The adventure began in 1996 with the publication of A Game of Thrones book. The first book was intended to be the beginning of a trilogy, but its popularity grew so much after publication, Martin has continued to publish books in this series. Currently there are five in publication with two more planned in the future.

According the Bantam Books, the publisher of the series, more than seven million copies of the series has been sold in the United States, more than 15 million copies have been sold throughout the world. The series has been published in about 20 different languages and fans all point back to A Game of Thrones being the novel that started it all.

The novel is set in the fictional world with two different continents, Essos and Westeros. Being the first novel in a series, A Game of Thrones book, has to set the story lines for the entire series. In this book, three different story lines are being told simultaneously. The first story lines introduce the reader to the Seven Kingdoms. King Robert has died and a fight for the Iron Throne has begun. The throne is originally claimed by the son of King Robert, Joffrey, but another main character, Lord Eddard Stark, has found out that all the King's children are illegitimate. This makes the Stannis the rightful king. Another of Stannis' brothers, the youngest, makes a claim for the throne. This begins the struggle for the Iron Throne.

Lord Eddard Stark's heir, Robb Stark, is declared King in the North, where he is seeking to return that region to self-rule. Within the same time frame, another situation develops on the Iron Islands. Balon Greyjoy has finally reclaimed the throne in this region of the fictional continents.

The next story line moves you to the northern borders of the continent of Westeros. The leaders of this part of Westeros built an ice wall, with the help of some magic, to prevent an attack from The Others. The wall has protected this area for thousands of years. The Others have not been seen for more than 8,000 years and the defenders of the wall, the Night's Watch, have deteriorated into a band of refugees and criminals. Since it had been so long since the last attack by those mythical creatures, The Others, the Night's Watch seemed to have turned into a penal colony. The main character in this story line is the bastard child of Lord Eddard Stark, Jon Snow. As Snow realized the real threat from The Others, he attempts to prepare the northern borders for a war.

The last story line takes place in the fictional continent of Esos. This huge eastern continent finds you reading about the adventures of another legitimate claimant to the Iron Throne, Dearneys Targaryen. She is the last of the House of Targaryen, which was placed in exile long ago. You follow Targaryen's growth from a pauper who had been sold into marriage to the barbarian warlord she eventually becomes. She is helped by three dragons, which had been thought to be extinct at the time. However, someone had given her three dragon egg fossils, which she nurtured and eventually hatched. Targaryen's main goal throughout this story line is to reclaim the Iron Throne which is rightfully hers.

A Game of Thrones book has become so popular that a comic book series has been adapted from the story lines, as well as a card game, role-playing game, board game and at least two video games. April 2011 saw the launch of a new series on HBO called "Game of Thrones", which is primarily based on A Game of Thrones book.

It has always been a debate whether playing games are good for you. Since the conception of consoles, parents have been worrying about the negative effect playing computer games have on their children. How to win the argument with your parents, at least getting them to allow you to have your fun with games is easier than you think. There are many research done by the psychologist to find out the impact of playing games in people, particularly those still in school. Let us face it, once we start working, gaming time will be severely limited.

There are many genres of games, and unfortunately these arguments are not valid for some games that promote violence and aggressive behaviour like Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty. Studies have shown that violent games do increase the tendency of aggressive behaviour in children and adult, and so those who like playing these games should limit playing time. For the average person who likes to play games, there are three good arguments.

Otherwise, there are positive studies done to show that gaming does indeed help people think. Role playing games forces people to plan and think about strategies while trying to complete quests. Without proper planning: levelling up skills, upgrading weapons, and setting battle formations, it is almost impossible to win in certain quests and levels. Those who played Shadow of Colossus would remember the infuriating game, and the feeling of triumph every time a monster goes down.

The games have become more intelligent as time goes by, artificial intelligence (AI) had improved so much that zombies now can run and plan a mass attack. In Resident Evil 5, the zombies are faster and now can wield weapons, instead of mindlessly shuffle towards you, showing their bloodied teeth. I still remember the terror I felt when the Executioner Manjini jumped towards me with the big axe, nails and hooks protruding on his back. Not only you have to plan the moves of your character, you have to anticipate that the enemy will be doing, which is becoming harder each year.

This is true for me, at least. Gamers who play mind stimulating games: RPGs, puzzle, fitness and a lot more tend to have good reflex. It is not easy to stare at the screen looking for hidden treasures, looking at the map for potential enemies bursting through some angle, stocking up quickly before a boss fight and not develop a level of dexterity in your mind. Working people can testify to some extend, multitasking is easier for a person who plays games. I still play Dr Kawashima's Brain and Body Exercises on my Xbox Kinect to help keep the brain in sync with the rest of me.

We love to play, gaming is fun and technology has enabled us to play with people around the world without leaving our room. The benefits of gaming are unfortunately not linked to the long hours that we put it. Keeping the gaming time to a reasonable level ensures that we have a real life outside of virtual reality, which is important to function as a member of a community.

PC simulation games are great because they allow gamers to simulate real life in a safe and consequence free environment. Simulation games mimic all aspects of life, from the extreme to the banal. The following is a list of some of the five best PC simulation games ever created.

Second Life is one of the many PC simulation games where the game play is exactly what the title suggests. Second Life offers gamers a second life. This is one of the first PC simulation games to offer a social networking aspect. Gamers travel around in a virtual second world, interacting with other characters owned and operated by other very real people. Second Life takes life simulation PC games to a new level, and Second Life inhabitants often engage in activity that they would never attempt in their first lives. Although not quite the Matrix, Second Life is about as close as you can get.

Need For Speed is the absolutely classic GT PC racing game. This is the king of PC racing simulation games. Not only are the games fun and realistic, but also the franchise is so prolific it seems there is an unlimited amount of Need For Speed titles to choose from. Besides, not only does Need For Speed let the driver evade the police, it lets the driver be the police.

Roller Coaster Tycoon falls under the "God" category of simulation PC games, but roller coaster tycoon doesn't exactly let gamers play God. Instead, it merely lets gamers assume the role of an uber-rich tycoon hell-bent on creating the world's wildest amusement park, which is almost as cool as playing God. Roller Coaster Tycoon lets everyone live out his or her childhood dream of building a roller coaster in the back yard.

The Microsoft Flight Simulator is without doubt the best flight simulator franchise in the market today. MSF is one of the longest running PC simulation franchises around. The newest incarnation, Microsoft Flight Simulator X is the king of PC flight simulation games. MSFX is the most realistic flight simulator available to consumers. How realistic can a video game possibly be? Well, if the film Snakes On A Plane has any important lessons, and it does, it is that flight simulators provide civilians with ample training to successfully land a 737. Conversely, if Hollywood movies aren't convincing, the US military has repeatedly stated that recruits familiar with flight simulation video game software are significantly more prepared for military flight school than those recruits who had never played such a game. How's that for a good excuse to play PC simulation games?

Finally, of course, there is the Sims. The Sims isn't just one of the top simulation PC games of all time, it's the top selling PC game franchise ever. It seems that everyone wants to have fun playing God and bossing around tiny humanoids. Well actually, that does sound like fun. Playing house got a whole lot cooler in the 21st century, and the Sims led the way.

Clearly, PC simulation games offer some of the most fun video games on the market today. The only regret people often have with these games is that they are too much fun and that they spend too much time playing them. Try one out today, but be careful, they might be addicting.
