Sony-Ericsson C510 & Nokia N96

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Mon, 27 Apr 2009 20:12:00 +0000

************************************************************************************* Sony-Ericsson C510
Sony Ericsson are typically known for producing Walkman phones, which are music dedicated phones, and the do make them very well. However with the Sony Ericsson C510, they have chosen to go a different route and have produced a mobile phone that focuses on its camera. The full name actually gives this focus away, as it is called the Sony Ericsson C510 Cyber Shot. The C510 measures 107mm x 47mm x 12.5mm and weighs a light 92 grams.

The great thing about being a small and light phone is that you can always keep it on you so to ensure you can capture that perfect picture as it happens. The screen is large at 2.2 inches, which will also make it easier to not only capture pictures but also to view them. There is of course still a music player built-in, but it is not the best of the best. The music player will however support the popular music formats, such as MP3, and has an FM Radio. The camera on the SE C510 has 3.2 mega-pixels and 3.2x digital zoom. This is definitely not the highest mega-pixels around, with quite a few Nokia's having 8mp and a new phone coming out having 12.1 mega pixels. However, it is the focus on features that make the camera better and improve your picture taking skills that really set the C510 Cybershot apart. There is a feature called Face Detection, which means the camera automatically focuses on faces. It has Smile shutter (which has proved very popular with other mobile phones) where the camera will automatically take a picture when someone smiles. There is geo-tagging, so you will always know where you were when you took a picture, photo-fix, which adjusts the lighting and contrast, photo light, to brighten dark areas and picture blogging.

The CyberSot C510 also incorporates WAP 1.2.1, WAP 2.o XHTML and web browsing technologies. This means you can very quickly and easily go online and post your pictures. In summary, the Sony Cyber Shot C510 is a great camera phone, with great connection facilities. It falls a little short in other applications and features, but that can be forgiven. ************************************************************************************ Nokia N96

Sony Ericsson P1i-amazing mobile

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Wed, 22 Apr 2009 07:43:00 +0000

The Sony Ericsson P1i looks more or less like a calculator with a large QWERTY keypad and an large TFT touchscreen. The mobile is equipped with a stylus that an be used for opening icons placed on the screen of the phone. The dimensions of the mobile are 106 x 55 x 17 mm and it weighs 124 gms.

The Sony Ericsson P1i functions on 2G and 3G networks; and so it becomes easy for people to access every facility that these networks offer. Moreover, the phone being GSM enabled, it is possible for people to connect it to the network provider from almost any place on earth. The gadget also remains connected with alternative options such as GPRS, HSCSD, 3G, WLAN, Bluetooth, Infrared and USB port. So, it is possible to wirelessly transfer files from the phone to other compatible devices making use of technologies such as Bluetooth.

The TFT display screen of the device measures 2.6 inches and gives a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. This screen can support 256 K colours and this the reason why the image and its inherent colours get displayed so well. This handset comes loaded with some ringtones that are both polyphonic as well as MP3 in nature. More ringtones can be downloaded from the net using the WAP browser for the purpose of surfing. The handset has 160 MB shared memory and this is why the mobile can store innumerable number of music files, video files and games. It is not just restricted to downloading of files; in fact the whopping memory can be used for storing messages and contact information.

Entertainment in the Sony Ericsson P1i is made possible due to the presence of provisions such as a camera, a media player and FM radio. So, entertainment in the form of photography and listening to music is made possible in the handset. Music is supported in formats such as MP3 and AAC by the media player. The 3.15 MP camera gives a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. Video-recording is also possible due to the presence of this camera. All these facilities of the mobile can be experienced for long hours due to the excellent support provided by the battery. A standby time of 440 hr and a talktime of 10 hr can be expected from the battery.

Features

Sony Ericsson P1i doesn't lack in features. It features, for starters, a reasonable processor, 128Mb RAM, 256Mb ROM, and huge 160Mb shared internal memory, and it comes with a pre supplied 1 GB M2 memory card. It features Symbian 9.1 and UIQ 3.0, so the overall performance is great, and even with nearly full memory, the working is much faster than it's Nokia's Symbian based cousins.

The touch screen is the best part of the phone. It's extremely bright and beautiful, and colour accuracy is splendid. The screen is extremely sensitive to touch commands and respond instantaneously, and writing on the screen using handwriting features although requires the user to memorize the specific shapes of some characters, is extremely fun with such high quality display.

Sony Ericsson P1i comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus. The image quality is slightly below Sony Ericsson K 800i, but the colour accuracy is great, and pictures are amazingly well adjusted after being taken in a low-light situation. Auto setting doesn't produce highest quality in some circumstances, so the camera should be set manually by selecting one among cloudy, daylight, fluorescent and incandescent settings. Autofocus is among the greatest in the market. The camera records video in QVGA (320x240) resolution and quality is acceptable.

P1i is in the p-series, so it comes with quick office which allows viewing and editing of word and excel documents, and it has business card scanner and PDF viewer.

The phone has a music and video player. The music player has many settings including Mega Bass, but sadly it has no manual adjustment, but it is no walkman. The sound quality is one of the best features. The sound is loud, and of high quality, and the music player allows sorting of tracks by artists, albums and playlists. It has fewer options and features than walkman, but is adequate for all needs. It supports mp3, WMA, WMC, AAC, AAC+ and eAAC+ formats. Video playback quality is among the best I've ever seen, even better than the Nokia N95 8 GB! It has fm radio as well. The Opera 8 browser is well awesome. It also supports 3G and HSC-SD and WLAN. Some users may be disappointed by lack of EDGE.

Conclusion

Overall, Sony Ericsson P1i is a great phone, much better than P990 and other previous P-series cell phones. It's great for businessmen and others alike and offers adequate features for every user.

nokia e-62

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Fri, 20 Jun 2008 15:03:00 +0000

The Nokia E62 excels on many points: rich set of features, sturdy design, vivid 320 x 240 display with 16 million colors and efficient, well-thought keypad and software. But a certain number of annoyances also make the whole thing less enthusiastically interesting. That said, it's a cellphone I enjoyed using. It's certainly good enough, but it is not perfect.

Pros

Talk time of up to 5 hours (300 minutes) does live up to its expectations.
Vivid display, sturdy design, good navigation joystick.
All the data transfer you can dream on: memory expansion card

Cons

Surprisingly slow software. Even bringing up the call log takes up to 2 seconds.
Uneasy earpiece. If not perfectly centered, sound volume becomes virtually zero.
Keypad is not the easiest to use.

Description

Voice and data network types: GSM, HSCSD
Bar-shaped PDA phone with fixed full QWERTY keyboard
No camera, probably to satisfy discreet businesses

Guide Review - Nokia E62 Review

The Nokia E62 is part of a new trend that favors thin and lightweight PDA phones. At only 5 ounces and just above half an inch thick, it beats more traditional PDA phones. Yet, it includes a full QWERTY keyboard, perhaps not the best, however: keys are so hard to press... a little more and you'd need to join a gym to get fit enough for your phone. Sound quality was good, except when using the handset directly with the earset not well centered -- then the volume dropped to near zero. They would have needed to sculpt a small engraving on the sides of the earpiece to reach a larger distance. The speakerphone also performed well with an above average volume (a rare feature nowadays) but don't put it too high or it will distort.

Basics-wise, the Nokia E62 is up to the level. I never felt short of battery life too early, cellular signal performance was always stable, the 5-way navigation joystick is easy to control and everything feels sturdy and durable. But as I write this, something still appears like a mystery to me: why is the Nokia E62 responding so slowly? While virtually any phone on the market can bring up its call log in a wink, the Nokia E62 takes more than 2 seconds. Most menus are equally slow. The keypad has a good layout but backlight may make it difficult to recognize number keys at night and the keys are really difficult to press. You need to be in shape to type a few lines of text using the Nokia E62.

After more than 2 weeks using the Nokia E62 as my main phone, I have mixed feelings. There are many annoyances, many things that could have been fine-tuned better but I don't see any major problem. Which makes me conclude that I liked the Nokia E62 but I certainly did not love it. However, I wouldn't mind using it as my own phone. It is satisfying enough.

ntroducing iPhone 3G. With fast 3G wireless technology, GPS mapping, support for enterprise features like Microsoft Exchange, and the new App Store, iPhone 3G puts even more features at your fingertips. And like the original iPhone, it combines three products in one — a revolutionary phone, a widescreen iPod, and a breakthrough Internet device with rich HTML email and a desktop-class web browser. iPhone 3G. It redefines what a mobile phone can do — again.Maybe you have a computer at home, one at work, and an iPhone or iPod touch. And it can be hard to keep them all up to date. But now there’s MobileMe. Wherever you are, your iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, and PC are always current and always in sync. And with a suite of elegant new web applications, you can access your data from anywhere.

Push email. Push contacts. Push calendar.

MobileMe stores all your email, contacts, and calendars on an online server — or “cloud” — and pushes them down to your iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, and PC. When you make a change on one device, the cloud updates the others. Push happens automatically, instantly, and continuously. You don’t have to wait for it or remember to do anything — such as docking your iPhone and syncing manually — to stay up to date.

Works with the native applications you know.

Do everything you need to do on every device you own. MobileMe works with Mail, Address Book, and iCal on a Mac; Microsoft Outlook on a PC with Windows XP or Vista; and the built-in applications on your iPhone or iPod touch.

Your web applications at me.com.

Check your email, change your calendar, edit your contacts, and more at me.com. Accessible anywhere, me.com is an ad-free suite of web applications — Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Gallery, and iDisk — that are elegant and easy to use. You can drag and drop, click and drag, use keyboard shortcuts, and even switch between applications with a single click. Me.com is such a great web experience, it seems as if you’re using desktop software.

Apple iPhone

noreply@blogger.com (Unknown) — Wed, 20 Feb 2008 15:44:00 +0000

Looks wise the Apple iPhone is super slick and measures 115 x 61 x 11.6 mm, with the display covering just about the whole front of the device, apart from the space for the microphone and speaker. Apple have embraced the revolutionary Multi-Touch technology and used it as the sole method of controlling the iPhone. No keypads, No scroll or jog wheels just tap the screen and tap again!

The iPhone runs on OS X which is the most advanced operating system on the market and allows you to multitask, so you can download your email whilst surfing the net. Unfortunately though, there's no 3G capabilities which was hoped for in the European version.

The Phone
Calling couldn't be easier, just find the recipient in your address book or favorites lists and tap the name. If someone else calls while you're chatting you can chose to talk to them privately by switching form one call to the other, or you can merge the two calls and have a three-way conversation - now that's what I call cool!!

Text messaging looks great too - more like using msn I would say. Simply tap the text button on the screen, chose from your existing texts in your inbox and then type the response using the onscreen QWERTY keypad. You get to see the list of prior texts too which is another great feature - awesome!

Collecting you voicemail, checking out your photo album, and sending images to friends and family is just as easy - everything seems to be in the right place! You can select and listen to voicemail messages in whatever order you want - just like email.

The iPod
Obviously the iPhone has a superb media player and why wouldn't it? Moving on from the original iPod though it's a much more visual experience with the iPhone, you can select music from play lists or use Cover Flow to browse your music library by album artwork - now that sounds fun!

You can also watch TV programs and films from the iTunes shop on the crystal clear 3.5 inch display. Just tap the controls on the screen! - Now I want one!!

The Web Browser
The Safari browser allows you to see web pages as they were meant to be seen, then simply zoom in an out by tapping the screen. This avant-garde device has an integrated version of Google maps that helps you find your way and locate hotels, shops and monuments. While widgets - small applications - give you quick access to info to things like the weather and the stock exchange. And if you're a YouTube fan you can simply launch it from the handset.

The Sensors
Accelerometer senses the orientation of the iPhone and automatically rotates the display if you change it - this feature is great for watching wide screen films and videos.

The proximity sensor is a power saving feature that switches off the display when the iPhone is raised to your ear, and there's a second feature that adjusts the brightness of the display in accordance with the surrounding light.

The Rest All this and still there's more - 2 megapixel camera, quad-band, Wi-Fi for super fast surfing, EDGE and Bluetooth capabilities all go together to make the iPhone a complete and very desirable device indeed.
