A recent thrift find

I was at an estate sale and found this Firestone 500 bike. My dad loves all things Indy so I bought it for $95, a little steep for me. It's going to be a fathers day gift and me and my brother split it. I'm working on cleaning it up and making it shine. Here's before photos:

I want to start blogging again so here I go. As a warning, this blog will have some thrift adventures, treasures, and discoveries but it will not be solely dedicated to that subject.

I love summer and the free time that it provides but sometimes I just get extremely bored, even with my resell business. I always have things I could list, ship, photograph, etc. but sometimes I just want to be entertained. Seeing as most of my friends graduated last year, they are all working adult jobs and busy. Thus, my day is full of thrifting and browsing the web.

Two months or back, my boyfriend (B) and I went to look at a house. We had looked at a few but this house just blew us away. Neither of us could believe it was in our price range. It was exactly what we wanted. It looked as though B himself had designed the house with a huge stone fireplace, exposed beams, dark wood cabinets in the kitchen, and a huge entertaining area downstairs. Unfortunately, we didn't get the house. Every house that we looked at afterwards was compared to this house with disappointing results. I happened to check Zillow.com Friday and see that the house was back on the market. Confession: I check the zillow page on this house everyday. I just felt that it was truly our house so it was hard letting go.

Needless to say, we put another offer in on the house...$10k over asking price!! Are we insane? Yes. I compare it to those episodes of 'Say Yes to the Dress.' When you know, you know. We are waiting to hear if the offer is accepted or not. Please send good vibes our way.

I attended an estate sale yesterday. I've grown pretty partial to estate sales. I like the treasure hunt feeling of going through ones house. However, the prices are a little steep. I attended this sale on 50% off day. I got some pretty cool jewelry items.

I think I paid about $3.00 for all of this. I love the door knocker lion earrings and the tiny stone in the necklace.

This is stunning in person and I paid $1.50 for it! It has fleur de lis all over it!

$1.50 for this ugly Christmas sweater!

$1.50 for this longgg green maxi skirt! Keeping this one for myself!

Thats all for now! Cross your fingers for my dream home! I'll let you know how it goes!!

Putting the Bug in an Ear

2012-06-01T14:21:00.001-07:00

I had my first trip to the emergency room this week! I was walking up the steps to the deck after work at around 3 A.M and fumbling with my keys. The porch light was on, which causes bugs to swam around the door. I was batting them away as usual when one flew by my ear. I quickly freaked out and batted it away. It felt like the bug had given my a wet willy. I entered the house, slightly freaked out, and continued to walk down the hallway. My ear still felt weird. I got about 10 more feet when I hear the bugs wings flapping... in my ear!

Thats right, the bug was alive in my ear. I woke up my mother and we tried everything to get the bug out. My dad peered into my ear with a magnifying glass and said he didn't see anything and that it was probably a gnat. I knew better. He said if I went to sleep it would eventually die. That was NOT going to happen. We poured hydrogen peroxide, water, and olive oil in my ear. We poked at it with q-tips and tweezers. No sign of the bug that was continuing to flap around in my ear.

Eventually, we had to go to the emergency room. The doctor removed it without any problems. It was a May Fly. It was rather large (much larger than a gnat). I am still VERY freaked out. I have a case of phantom bug in my ear. I keep feeling and seeing it! SO creepy.

(Mine did not have the two long stems. It was either a baby or the stems are still in my ear ;) )

Summer Time

2012-05-07T10:35:00.001-07:00

School is out for Summer! I am so excited because this semester has been a whirlwind. I have been going non stop for 3 months and because of this my diet flew out the window, everything I own is a big chaotic mess, AND I miss my friends. But as I sit here and type this I have this overwhelming sense of restlessness. I am not doing anything and it's driving me crazy. I NEED to have direction or I will just fall apart and slip into this weird anxiety.

I am currently mainly working on planning my NYC trip which you can read about in my other blog From the City That Always Sleeps to the City That Never Sleeps. This blog has all my advice for planning a trip to NYC and it will document my daily movements in the city once I get there.

Another big project for my is my eBay store. I also have a blog dedicated to that called Saks Thrift Avenue. As a brief overview, I go into thrift stores and scour yard sales to find merchandise to resell for a profit on eBay. It's actually pretty cool to find unique items and learn about the history and then I get to make money on it. Sort of a win win situation!

Back to current news, I went to the Oaks on Friday with two of my best lady friends. Despite being extremely hot, we had a good time. K won $150 but I had no luck. :(

This week I really have no plans. I have tentative plans to have lunch and window shop with my friend S but nothing set in stone. I think I may also message M and see if she wants to get drinks Thursday. Time to start catching back up with my friends!

Also time to start catching up on my fitness. I used to run everyday and now, I don't. I am getting back on my diet and I am going to start running, eventually. I am feeling pretty lazy today. I guess I will just start tomorrow.... HA! But seriously, I am about to go have some hummus and pita bread. I am making The Boy take me to Olive Garden or make me homemade baked ziti tonight as a reward for getting straight A's this semester (did I mention that?!)
