Five Major Issues of Installing Windows 10 iot on Raspberry PI

I am here Explaining five major Issues of handling Windows 10 IOT on Raspberry PI. I feel Raspbian, Noobs are far better than windows and Windows is still just touching Raspberry PI.

First Booting Time

It take more than 10 - 15 Mins time for first boot, Most of the forums and technical support don't mention about this.

Boot Error

If you use third party power supply, most of the time it gives boot error, It may give boot corruption message, but don't be hurry, check power supply

Windows 10 Must

You need to have windows 10 computer to install Windows IOT, if you don have Windows 10 Computer, You have to give up installing Windows IOT

Computer Requirement

You should have a computer to program or run anything on the Raspberry PI, since installed PI is just os but not operation panel.

Network Requirement

You need to have Local Ethernet Network or Cross Cable Connection to operate Raspberry Pi with Windows IOT

How to install oscam on Raspberry PI

Requirments

No matter it is Raspberry PI 1, 1-B, 2 or 3. You need Raspberry PI, Internet Connection, Mouse and Key Board. HDMI monitor or adapter.

I have already tested on Raspbian, Noobs and Ubuntu Core. But it might work on all Linux kernel Operating System too.

You have to downloads following application in order to complete OSCAM installation on your PI

Noobs or Raspbian

Etcher or Win32DiskImager (I will Explain using Etcher since it is easier than Win32DiskImager )

16 GB Memory Card or May be less than but if you use 2 GB even not vbad with Raspberry PI old Versions.

How to Install Raspbian

Downloads Raspbian from

https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/

But if you use older version of Raspberry PI like Version 1 and 2, or if you don't have bigger Memory card, You should not worry and Go and get older version

How ever You should have an idea which version suit for your raspberry pi, Other wise you may not fully utilize your raspberry PI

Installation Procedure

Copy downloaded file to your hard drive. Unzip file and Store.

Install Etcher and Start Etcher, Select Your stored image file

How to Copy File, Check the Below Image

Select Your Memory Card, Always system select memory card automatically and if you have fixed few memory card readers, then you have to select desired one. see the Below image.

Click Flash button and wait and see until complete process. don't be panic to click anywhere until complete copy process.

Booting First Time Your Raspberry PI

Remember that the default login for this image is :

Username : pi
Password : raspberry

You need to configure followings on your raspberry pi before install oscam

To Set Static IP Address. Right click on the Up and Down Arrow marks on top right corner

How to select the Menu

Then click on it and you will get a screen

to Configure - Select IT as interface and in Red Box select as eth0. Now you have selected Wired Network as Raspberry PI Ethernet. enter your Local network IP address to IP Address Box, Example If your Local network is in 192.168.1.0 network, enter available IP address. In gateway Just enter our router IP address. How ever you need to have an idea about what is gateway. Enter google DNS to DNS Lines. And Press apply and then close. Then Restart your Raspberry PI.

Configure SSH and VNC Server. VNC server is free for Raspberry PI raspbian and You need to have VNC Client on your Desktop.

After restarting Your Raspberry PI, Go to Start Menu On Your Raspberry PI (Click Raspberry ICON) on your Left top corner.

Go to Preferences --> Raspberry PI Configurations

Select SSH - Enabled and VNC -- Enabled --> Then Press ok and Restart Your PI again. Now you are ready to install OSCAM

Now you can keep alone your raspberry pi just with connecting to power and network

Starting Installation OSCAM

Downloads Following Application to your Computer now, Before that Switch on your Raspberry PI and keep one minute for boot.

1. Downloads VNC Client. (https://www.realvnc.com/en/download/viewer/)

2. Putty (http://www.putty.org/)

Even If you use VNC Client, or putty. You can use Terminal for Installing OSCAM. I use Putty to install OSCAM

Since you use SSH, You have to use following settings on putty, assume your raspberry PI Ip address is 192.168.1.10

Press Open Following Screen will appear,

No One : User Name for Raspberry PI : pi

then Password : raspberry

Starting Installation, make sure again Internet connection for raspberry pi

Launch putty.exe.
Enter IP address of the raspberry, in the Hostname field.
Click on “Open“.
Accept the certificate and login with the “pi/raspberry” account

Install required files and applications to install oscam, Since you don't have updated your PI, first we need to update PI by following command, for your easy you can copy command and click on putty terminal right button of mouse, it will automatically paste.

sudo apt-get update

It will take some time to update and once complete, The sudo command is used when you need to do something that requires permissions of a superuser. We use it because the “pi” account is not a superuser and system level operations like installing packages need a superuser account.

Now, let´s install the packages for compiling Oscam.

sudo apt-get install subversion cmake build-essential libssl-dev libpcsclite1 libpcsclite-dev dialog

If you are using USB smartcard readers, you will need to compile libusb.

Go to your home directory.

cd ~

command to Download libusb sources from sourceforge.

wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/libusb/files/libusb-1.0/libusb-1.0.9/libusb-1.0.9.tar.bz2

Command for extracting sources.


tar xjvf libusb-1.0.9.tar.bz2

command to Compile libusb and install.

cd libusb-1.0.9


./configure


make


sudo make install



Back to home directory.



cd ~


Once you complete Installation necessary files and applications, then you need to follow commands 
Since we are installing oscam-SVN version, so we are going to downloads it from oscam site and compile

You can get OSCam source code from SVN, using the following command:




svn checkout http://www.streamboard.tv/svn/oscam/trunk oscam-svn




Then we move in to source folder

cd oscam-svn

make a folder called oscamMake

mkdir oscamMake

Then get in to oscamMake folder
cd oscamMake

Then we use cmake to prepare build
cmake ..

Compiling oscam using
make

Then we install oscam, once you install oscam, if there was no error, your bin files will be located at etc/local/bin. so you need to type below command.
sudo make install

You have to copy all oscam configuration files to /usr/local/etc

Before that you need to make change ownership with

sudo chown -R pi.pi /usr/local/etc

but you should mind that, without giving proper rights to that folder, you will not be allowed to copy files, we are going to give rights using following command

you can use filezila to update your file to /usr/local/etc. Downloads Filezila from following link

run oscam using

sudo /etc/local/bin/oscam

and use your web browser to check oscam

192.168.1.10:8888 initially, if you change webif port, then you have to use your changed port

Control Satellite Dish Using RF

There is no much technical invention involving this. Just use DC 12v 10A relay 2CH wireless RF Remote Control Switch Transmitter.

The Block Diagram for Motor Connect, This picture is taken from seller’s web site.

The Actuator is 36 V DC with load current 3A. So there is no any issues in connecting with maximum load.

Automated Satellite Tracking System

Step 1

Research based on Automated Satellite Tracking system. This research were started with the System which has developed by two Iranian university students to find satellite physical location. Here I have develop the algorithm to find satellite with known frequencies and using geographical location.

This has capability to find satellite in any location.
C band or KU band feed search capability.
Satellite search only on clerk belt.
This model can use to update news feeds and immediate satellite up links.

Soon I will provide all information related to this research.

Sri Lankan Suitable Offset dish Motorized System (Huge Dishes)

How to Boost 3G Signal Using Used Satellite Dish in Sri Lanka

This is simple theory we use to increase signal strength in low signal intensity area. It doesn’t drop signal strength when you connected to internet also.

As per my story, I am living 10 km away from Gampaha Airtel tower, Airtel has not covered 3G Ganemulla area. They have tower with edge technology. Even if i use powerful dongle like Huawei E220, there was no such sign to get of signal.

I used above method to get 3G Airtel Signals and I was able to get Powerful signal. as per the below map you can find It is covered Gampaha not Ganemulla.

Following Equipments You need

Satellite Dish

Old or broken LNBF (KU)

Five Meter USB Extension Cable

You can remove Inside circuit and just use plastic cover for experiment, cut a hole on the top plastic cover and fix wire and dongle as below pictures

Finally It will be like below

Then you can fix dish to a Galvanized Iron and stand as below

and little according to your place

Then plug to your note book and check the signal level

Since I didn't have signal for 3G in Airtel, with this i managed to get this amount of Signal Strength, but I tried with much larger dish which i have,

It gave much better result for me,

and My downloads speed also were like below

It is simple and amazing solution for all of us which we are not having stable 3G signal in our area. so you can tryout yourself if you want.

I know some peoples having issue with dialog 3G signals also, they can use dialog sim instead of airtel, this is suitable for any 3G net work even 2G Mobile signals also.

any one can try out this for WiFi signals also if you are getting free WiFi in your area. I also have received free WiFi in greater colombo area and out of colombo also.

My Satellite TV System

I am a Owner of a fare Satellite TV system. I have some kind of Receivers and Antenna and Some other Equipments. I am ready to transfer any knowledge through this blog for beginners. I believe that i have some more knowledge in satellite antenna installation, DSNG etc.

Here My Some of Antennas

With Motorized dish i can capture satellite from 45 E to 138 E. This dish use for KU band Satellite Signal Reception.

S Band Reception in Sri Lanka. This is not sophisticated technology, This signals also still using for Satellite TV Transmission in Indonesia. SES 7 108.2 E - Indovision Package.

C Band Reception, This is also Motorized dish to capture 138 E - Telstar 18 to 38 E Paksat 1R. due to wind factor I have to use mesh dish according to the location.

Out of Foot print Signal Reception in Sri Lanka, I manage to capture Indochina Beam for VTC Digital, Viatnam Satellite Channels and Package. This is 4.5 Feet KU band dish with 0.1 db LNBF.
