adaptive network management solutions; to understand and predict overall
system level properties such as energy consumption, latency and throughput;
to support the effective deployment of large WSN applications by minimizing

address the security and privacy requirements that are related to Ambient
Living and health care applications with WSN systems.

We are looking for a PostDoc (three years) who will investigate key
management and secure data aggregation in wireless sensor networks (vacancy

You have completed a Ph.D. in an area that is relevant to our research, e.g.
computer science, electrical engineering, or mathematics. You like working
in a team and have intellectual curiosity and knowledge of distributed
systems, and security. Your main responsibility will be to carry out
research, but you will be given the opportunity to acquire some teaching
experience.

We offer our researchers the opportunity to broaden their knowledge by
joining international exchange programs, by participating in national and
international conferences and workshops, and by visiting other research

The PhD position is part of a prestigious and exciting international research project in
philosophy named "Evaluating the Cultural Quality of New Media". This five-year project,
which includes six researchers and involves collaboration with leading international
scholars and research centres, has as its aim to develop a framework for better normative
analyses of new media and new media culture, especially in relation to their contribution to
the quality of life ("the good life") and the quality of society. Project leader is Prof. Dr.
Philip Brey. The project is part of a new international Centre of Excellence in Ethics and
Technology (http://www.ethicsandtechnology.eu) of the departments of philosophy of
Twente University, Delft University of Technology and Eindhoven University of Technology.

Objectives
The aim of the PhD project is to perform a study of interpretations and evaluations of new
media and their consequences that are made by representatives of major ideologies or
worldviews, with the aim of assessing how they relate to conceptions of the good life and
the good society held by these ideologies. It will involve a study of liberal,
communitarian, conservative, religious and post materialist evaluations of new media, and
the assessment of what the benefits and harms of new media cultures are and how these
can be evaluated within these ideologies. It will also provide normative critiques of
current ideological stances regarding new media.

Profile
A Master's degree or equivalent degree in philosophy, preferably with a background in
ethics and/or social or political philosophy.

Consideration will also be given to candidates with a multidisciplinary Master's degree on
a topic relevant to the project and some background in philosophy, and to exceptional
(international) candidates with only a bachelor's degree in philosophy.

Demonstrable interest in philosophical issues relating to information technology and new
media (but previous work in this area not required). Good analytical skills. Good
communication skills in English, in writing as well as orally. Good team spirit. Creativity,
open-mindedness, and an ability to develop new ideas.

Offer
A four-year full-time Ph.D. position, preferably starting April 1, 2008. The gross salary is
EUR2.000,- in the first year going up to EUR2.558,- in the fourth year (EUR27.456,- and
EUR35.699,- per annum, respectively, including vacation pay and end-of-year bonus).

The Eni Corporate University announces a competition for an academic
course that leads to a Master's Degree in Energy and Environmental
Management and Economics - MEDEA. The course is organized and
managed by the Scuola Enrico Mattei.

The Master is offered to Italian and foreign university graduates
that are interested in career paths within firms, authorities and
other institutions operating in the energy and environmental sectors.
For the Academic Year 2008-2009, the Scuola Enrico Mattei will assign
a maximum of 50 scholarships.

Three programs of the MEDEA are offered:

• Energy Industry Economics
• Business Administration in Energy Industry
• Managing Technical Assets in Energy Industry

The program is articulated on three phases, with an increasing degree
of specialisation. All profiles consist of preliminary courses,
followed by fundamental courses and by specialisation classes.

The Academic Year runs for ten months, from September 3, 2008 through
to June 30, 2009. Full-time attendance is required. Since courses are
conducted in Italian and in English, an intensive Italian language
course will be held during the summer of 2008. Those who have
successfully completed the programme of study will be awarded a
Master's Degree in Energy and Environmental Management and Economics -
MEDEA.

REQUIREMENTS

Admission is subject to the following requirements:

• university degree in Italy, or an equivalent academic qualification
abroad, in departments of: Business Administration, Chemistry,
Economics, Engineering, Geology, Industrial Chemistry, International
Law, Physics and Statistics;

• Italian candidates must be under the age of 28 years and non-
Italian candidates must be under the age of 32 at the beginning of
the Master course;

• good knowledge of the English language.

The course, moreover, can be attended also by people autonomously
chosen by the Eni Companies.

APPLICATION AND SELECTIONS

The deadline for application is March 31, 2008 for foreign citizens
and April 30, 2008 for Italian citizens.

Italian candidates will attend the final selection in San Donato
Milanese (MI); non-Italian candidates in Algeri, Almaty, Ankara,
Beijing, Brussels, Budapest, Cairo, Lagos, London, Luanda, Madrid,
Monaco, Moscow, New York, Sao Paulo, Tripoli, or in other offices of
Eni, depending on their nationality.

Euros 25,000

GRANTS

For successful candidates, the admission to and the enrolment in the
School carry no fees. The School offers students a financial
contribution for the accommodation and living expenses. Moreover,
students are given free training materials and the opportunity to
avail themselves of Eni canteen facilities. Finally, scholarships are

The Institute for Theoretical and Computational Linguistics (ILTEC) is looking for a post-doc fellow for a period of five years, to start before May 2007. The position is part of the Ciência 2008 program of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

The primary task of the candidate is to develop research under the Portal da Língua Portuguesa project, and ideally assume responsibility for the project over time. The Portal is a project to develop and maintain an online resource about the Portuguese language, with a primary focus on lexical information.
The candidate is expected to eventually supervise the lexicographic part of the further development of the lexicographic model behind the MorDebe database, to supervise the team of linguists working on the Portal, and collaborate in the further development of the software behind the web site and its content management system. Apart from that, the candidate is expected to (further) develop his or her own line of research and encouraged to submit projects to national and international project calls.

The MorDebe database is a lexical information system developed at the ILTEC institute. At its core it is a large-scale full-form lexicon, construed with strict lexicographic criteria. It has a modular design, in which additional modules can provide additional types of information for the basic lemma list. The database already contains modules providing information about derivational relations between lemmas, gentile information, proper names, and grammatical characterizations, and more modules are under development. The most significant module under development is a database of phonetic transcription of the standard pronunciation in European Portuguese for all the lemmas in the database. The system is under constant revision, with the maintenance of the existing modules, the improvement of the lexicographic quality of the database, and the development of new modules for the system.
Candidates should have a PhD in the area of linguistics and have at least three years of research experience since the completion of their PhD. Preferably, the candidate should have experience in the area of computational lexicography, with both a strong theoretical background in the area of lexicology and/or morphology, and practical experience in programming. Given that the project concerns lexicographic data of Portuguese, knowledge of the language is important, yet not indispensable.
The candidature should contain an introductory letter detailing the candidate's expectation with regard to working on this project, and a complete CV.

The position consists of a contract for a fixed period of 5 years, and consists of a full research position with no teaching obligations.
The yearly salary for the position is just over €42.000, equal to that of an assistant professor.

ILTEC is a small research center in Lisbon, Portugal, founded in 1988. It has an autonomous status, but strong ties to the two major universities in Lisbon (Universidade de Lisboa and Universidade Nova de Lisboa). It is located off-campus in the center of the city, and provides a stimulating research environment, both for senior and junior researchers. In the last national evaluation of research centers, the institute got a "very good" (4 out of 5) rating.

Specifically, the university is looking for a scholar from Indonesia or Malaysia, countries that are predominately Muslim but are not in the Middle East and have significant non-Islamic populations.
The scholar would teach four upper-division courses and guest lecture in two introductory Social Science courses, focusing on the social, ethnic, political and ideological diversity of Islam. The scholar would also be the primary host of a year-long thematic series for the campus community on the Islamic World. Finally, the scholar would give presentations hosted by the diversity-related centers on campus and at Faculty Forums, as well as have the opportunity to interact in a variety of ways with the community around the University of Redlands.
Outstanding scholars and professionals, preferably in the Social Sciences like Sociology or Anthropology, who will be able to link religion to other areas of life, such as law, sexuality, science, kinship, technology, and the environment, are invited to apply. The actual discipline of the scholar is of less concern; the school is more interested in reinforcing and deepening the interdisciplinary focus of their programs. The scholar must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in their discipline. As the scholar will be expected to consult with faculty and administration on the programmatic needs and design of an Islamic Area Studies and to teach upper division courses, the school would prefer the scholar has a minimum of three years teaching experience at the university level.
