Keeping the promise he made two years ago, he came back to India. “I'll be back!” Arnold Schwarznegger had said, quoting his most famous dialogue from the Terminator series, during his last trip to India in February 2012.

On a sultry Monday afternoon, the Secretariat, the seat of power in Tamil Nadu, was gripped with mild excitement. While most of the staff were confined to the desk or loitering in the corridors, those who knew that the ‘Terminator’ was visiting wanted a glimpse of Arnold Schwarzenegger, one of the biggest Hollywood stars.

Even before he got here, pictures of him arriving at Chennai and meeting local star Suriya quickly went viral on social media. Schwarznegger was here to launch the music of director Shankar’s latest venture I. The former Governor of California also stopped by to meet Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who too comes from a film background.

As the large media contingent was stopped at the out gate of the main building at Fort St. George, some of the young staffers at work were looking for a way out. “Obviously, we want to see him in person,” said a personal assistant to one of the ministers. Positioned in front of windows on the south-eastern wing, they whipped out their mobile phones, hoping to snap a picture of the star as he stepped out of his SUV.

Schwarzenegger’s meeting with the Chief Minister was reportedly unscheduled. Ms. Jayalalithaa, who was to take the flight to Coimbatore for a campaign, delayed it a bit to accommodate the meeting with the Hollywood icon, sources said.

Arriving first, Mr. Schwarzenegger was to take the lift but was stonewalled by the waiting photographers and videographers. He seemed completely at ease with all the mobbing. Two middle-aged women, both Secretariat staff, who had positioned themselves at the gate, shrieked with delight. “Oh my god, how good looking is he!” exclaimed one.

As Mr. Schwarzenegger climbed up the stairs to the Chief Minister’s room, the excitement died down a bit. He came down twenty minutes later, ready to leave; but stopped short when he heard mediapersons calling for him, and walked back looking dapper in his grey suit, raising his hand in a salute.

Hugging T. Senthil Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Flower Bazaar, who happened to be standing nearby, Mr. Schwarzenegger posed for pictures. He asked Mr. Kumar what he should say, and was told to greet the crowd with Vanakkam, the Tamil word for greeting someone.

“He wanted to, and tried to, but found he could not pronounce the word,” said Mr. Kumar.

In the evening, Mr. Schwarzenegger tweeted: “It was fantastic to sit down with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa before our event tonight and talk about her State’s success and challenges. That’s the advantage of being an actor who was also a Governor!!”

As the day came to an end with the music launch of I, it was time for the iconic actor to bid goodbye to the city. As he would say: “Hasta La Vista baby!"

The official first look teaser of the Suriya-star rer Singam 2 was released on May 16 and in 60 hours the video became an Internet sensation by receiving a million hits on YouTube. Singam 2, the sequel to the first superhit, which was also directed by Hari, has so far got 1,318,718 hits.
The teaser shows some power-packed stunts and punchy dialogues delivered by Suriya, rais ing audi e n c e expectation of a racy second part to come.

Suriya-Gautham's film Dhruva Natchathiram goes on floors

The announcement of another Suriya-Gautham Vasudev Menon project created a lot of buzz in the industry . The film, finally went on the floors on Thursday, when Suriya, who has just finished the shooting schedules of Singam 2 was also present. Others present at the occasion included Parthiepan, Ram, Premsai, Vignesh, Rajeevan and Madan Karky .Produced under the Photon Kathaas banner, the music has been composed by A R Rahman. The first look of the film, released a few days ago, has generated a lot of curiosity. In what is an interesting coincidence, the director’s son is also Dhruv,
“Yes, my son’s name is Dhruv, but that is not the reason the title has been kept Dhruva Natchathiram. In the film Suriya’s character name is Dhruv. In mythology, Dhruv is a pole star and when it appears, it is supposed to bring about a huge change. The script demanded a title like this and after a lot of research, I zeroed down on this name”.
As for the female protagonist, the director says, “I am looking for a fresh face who knows Tamil. We haven’t found anyone yet.” As for the rest of the cast, it reads like a who’s who list! “Simran and Parthiepan are brought on board for crucial roles,” the director says.

Actress Anjali, who recently moved to Hyderabad after telling the media that she feared for her life here, returned to Tamil Nadu to shoot for a song in Suriya’s upcoming Singam II. The actress was in Tuticorin on Sunday to complete the special song, which has been composed by Devi Sri Prasad. Anjali had shot for the song much earlier but director Hari had to cancel the last day’s shoot due to rains. They had then flown to South Africa to shoot the
other portions. Now, with the team back in India for the final shoot in Tuticorin, we hear they had asked the actress to come over to finish the song. Says a source, “It was only for a day and Anjali flew down to the port city to complete her portions. Suriya too was part of the shoot.” On April 8, Anjali had gone incommunicado after alleging that her stepmom Bharathi Devi and director Kalanjiyam were harassing her. She had surfaced later and shot for the Telugu remake of Bol Bachchan with Venkatesh. Director Kalanjiyam, meanwhile, has approached the various bodies in Kollywood seeking action against the actress as she failed to turn up for the shoot of his film, Oor Suttri Puranam, on April 24.

Speaking from Tuticorin, where the final leg of the shoot is going on, director of Singham 2, Hari says, “Suriya's Singham 2 will be a real sequel in the history of Tamil cinema, where all the stars and characters are repeated except Prakash Raj who dies in the first version of Singham. Suriya, Anushka, Vijayakumar, Vivek, Manorama, Radha Ravi and Nasser are part of the sequel. The new additions include

Hari says that Devi Sri Prasad who gave brilliant numbers earlier contin ues his good work here too. The new baddies are Rahman, Mukesh Rishi and British actor Danny Sapani essays the crude vil lain in the film. The story which commences in south India ends in South Africa. Climax has been shot in overseas location. Typical of Hari's style, the movie which has the main backdrop of Tuticorin has been shot in crowded places like market, busy roads, temple etc. Even in Durban, it was shot candidly in places where people throng.

Surya gets 15 cr salary, 15 cr forTelugu rights?

If the latest buzz is true, then it looks like Suriya has now become the highest paid star in K-Town. Trade sources are claiming the actor is getting paid ` 15 crore outright salary and ` 15
crore for the Telugu rights for his film with Lingusamy. If this is indeed true, then it puts the actor at the top of the big league in Kollywood.

A trade source, on condition of anonymity, tells us, "Suriya has a number of films lined up, both for release and for which he will start work on this year. And he will receive ` 30 crore for his latest film, which includes the ` 15 crore Telugu rights of the movie as well." The actor has a very big market in Andhra Pradesh as his popularity has been growing extensively over the last few years.

The source continues, "For Maattrraan, he was paid ` 12 crore outright plus the Telugu rights, which were said to be around ` 15 crore, making it a gross of 27 crore. And for his film with Lingusamy, he has been offered Rs 15 crore as outright payment. The Telugu rights,estimated at ` 15 crore, is said to make up the rest of his remuneration. In the current scenario, he surpasses his contemporaries in Kollywood."

While Lingusamy remained unavailable for comment as he was out of the country, his brother, Subashchandra Bose, declined to comment. He said, "I'm not at liberty to discuss remuneration. All I can tell you is that the film will go on floors from February, 2013."
