How Can you Prevent Terrorism????

There is nothing really a common man can do except for restraining himself from becoming a terrorist. But the way societies exploit a common man(soft, personal and invasive terrors) ; he eventualy takes up arms against the oppressors who then inturn brand him as terrorists, its a vicious cycle.If a government machinery acts against terrorism then hundreds of other sympathizers join hands against that government and thus terrorism spread like a fire in the wild.
Every man is a born terrorist he himself only can control him or he should kill himself to control terrorism.

Either all should become saints or all should become terrorists. If there are two sets of people in a society then there is bound to be conflict.

(my topic that "All Earthizens should go to Pakistan" was a lighter version of this explanation)

So control the beast in yourself and hope that others do the same .. thats all we can do.

e.g. Forms Terrorisms

1) Mother to a child sleep else I'll call Gabbar/lock u up in dark/I'll go off etc.
2) Teacher : "Why didnt you do the homework? (even if there were 10 guests romping all around your house) Show me your Knuckles...
3)Dad: Get high merit and become doctor else I shall turn you out of the house
4) Boy friend to Girl friend : "Even though I am the most ineligible guy for you ,Marry me else I will kill myself"
5) Mother-in-law: Bring more Dowery else you will be burnt
5)Boss: Finish this task else no leave or be ready to be fired off your job.
6)Law Enforcement: Dont move as cosy couple in public else you will be jailed for immoral traffic.
7) Self imposed Social Moral Police: Dont Watch FTV .. it has wierd things that is a common sight in impoverished countries (less clothed)that goes against culture
(how did he know ?? :p)

8)God man: Slaughter 1000 Camels else God will Curse you. (Hope Maneka Madam will one day sue our Gods)

9)Fanatics: Dont love your fellow human he is an outcast.
10) One country to another: Dont make nukes else we will nuke you.
11) Terrorists: We want some justice for above things but we are not sure what we want and who will give it to us but we know one thing that we are going to do "blow you up".

Insensitive Electronic Media - Role in National Destruction

Watching at least four English news channels surfing from one another during the last 60 hours of terror strike made me feel a terror of another kind. The terror of assaulting one's mind and sensitivity with cameras, sound bites and non-stop blabbers. All these channels have been trying to manufacture my consent for a big lie called - Hotel Taj the icon of India.
This was the quote from Gnani Sankaran- Tamil writer, Chennai. (http:// www.gnani. net/)

And I am with him to second his opinion as I am convienced that it is only a matter of convenience that these media houses put news contents across to us.
The way these media houses were proclaiming to have got hold exclusive footages of terrorists and carnage as if they have funded these attack and got they copyrights. It was really a shame.

I remember during late 90's when the world was looking at E-Commerce with awe; I used to teach students about electronic revolution and the way they can even sell death to people over internet.
Now I feel ashamed of myself when the same very ideas are put to use by electronic media,the way they celebrate death,terror and human misery;the way they package it with lots of background music gory graphics and a suiting hindi song number. The way they repeat absured things like "sighting Hanuman" and "Sounds from Hell" a zillion times that a person is all physced up to believe all that crap for real.
The way they portray their political ideologies to frame an opinion in their favour e.g the RKB show, now they are after the bullet proof jacket since 3 days .. Barkha Dutt is after "Enough is Enough" etc. The way these media channels leak sensitive information to the world sometimes make me wonder whether these media houses are funded by people with vested interests/Terrorist groups. To make my belief strong was the action by IBN7 , they disclosed a confidential letter on the Television , written by Police Commissioner of Gujarat to his subordinates about 2 investment agencies collecting fund for Jehad namely GoldenInvestments and one something else. Anyone with lowest of IQ can understand the consequences of such disclosures; it will suerly help the culprits to cover up. So a responsible media house will not do it and if they are doing so - it is to help some vested interest. The way live display of commando positions were helping terrorists and its operative heads is open now.
Either our media is too foolish and immature lot of physcos; a bunch of idiots with no clue about what they are doing or they are the real terrorists with hidden agenda to break India with all the kinds of inflamatory stuffs they keep propogating and seeking public opinion and by pushing words into ones mouth.

A classic example of idiotic jourlalism was pointed out by many of my friends was on the day when Hostages were freed from Taj (28th November 2008) ; one Mr.Deepak was tortured with the silliest and absurdest Questions like
1)Did you confront the terrorists? Did you see them? (answer- If I were to meet them I would not be standing here)
2)Did you get Food? (answer was- who the hell on earth will think of food when ones life is in danger.)
and an array of such punches good enough to make it on to Santa-Banta joke's Site.

Another example of propogation of aggression was repeated clip telecast of Richard Gere Kissing Shilpa Shetty , an isolated incident which could have been forgiven and forgotten was raked up to such an extent that the media houses themselves were playing the Moral Police again another shame for us.

I am aplolitical and I hope it helps me to call a spade a spade ; a rediculous thing to happen during those days was the advertisements aired on by these very media houses on behalf a National Political party , asking for votes and chiding the ruling party for its ineffectiveness.But people with a bit of commonsense can understand that the root cause of all these trouble that India is suffering was invited by this very National Religious Party by demolishing a harmless Babri Masjid structure and drawing the warth of millions of Islam followers. These very incidents are used by vested interests to brainwash the unsuspecting youth to join religious cause and spread terror in India. This very National Party was responsible for India's economic isolation due to its inability to tackel the aftermath of Nuclear Testing. A humble apology would have saved a lot of hardships for India. If our media had an iota of national interest they would have put forth the real culprits in front of public and not propogate the very political party because of which we have lost our peace and our citizens life is in threat. (earlier the trouble was only in Kashmir after 1992 is has spread to entire India, why?)

India needs stricter guidelines for allowing news channels to operate they have to be responsible/answerable to the masses.
If need be let the government amend the constitution but the harakiri in the name of freedom of expression and undue press freedom should be put to a end with an alternative solution to enable press/media to operate responsibilly and constructively for the welfare and education of the all classes of the society and not just for the likes of people affected at Taj or the people who find places in Times of India's Sunday Review Section or Page 3 of Mumbai Mirror.

I know if this blog is read by a media person , he may not digest it but nevertheless I could not refrain from putting my thoughts down. As you say "To Err is Human"

The Indian Retail Market and the Herd Mentality

Dont loose your sleep dear Retailers there is much to chew than your mouth can hold.
India is too big a rural market for Big Retail brands to conquere .The small time retailers need not worry too much as of now, a person from say "Kecheri" in Thrissur Dist. will not travel all the way to Trichur Town (20 KM away) to get things like 5 kg sugar etc. from the Mall.

And Malls cannot be started in all corners of the village as they lose their strategic advantages of Place,Time,Volume,accessability.

If someone starts a Mall for a village population of 5000 he will be doomed as the logistic cost of sustaining a good mall will surely be higher than the total average expenditure by all the 5000 strong population in a month.

Hence Retailers and small shop owners should take their business to the masses and see that they penerate deep into each village and provide such convenience to the villagers that they dont even think of travelling to the town for purchasing their groceries/electronics/Garments. The Retailers can even start home delivery schemes.

And they should not allow their stronghold on distribution chain to weaken,they can play the role of Franchisees or Sourcing Agents to the Big Retail Giants or they can prevent one such Mall coming to their town through co-operative movement. The small retailers who provide different goods and services should come together and pool capital through co-operative society and start a Mall themselves in the Town or villages , the profit will be distributed to the shareholders and risk of individual businesses get covered as well as they will get a stronger bargaining power to get goods from industries at the same price as Retail Giants, as well as enjoy some concessions enjoyed by the co-operative societies. The moment the Giant sees a competition in an area they will think twice to set up their business there.
A good example I can quote is the state of Malls which were set up in close proximity in an area in western suburbs of Mumbai (Goregaon to Kandivili) these Giant Malls were so near to each other that each started eating into the business of others and the laws of economics were tilted against their favour in such a way that they are forced to continue with very meger profits as an early exit from the market will burn deep holes in their pockets.

Inorder to prevent such situations and to sustain Retail boom in India , the Govenments should bring in some regulation in the approval of Malls in a locality based on the population, expenditure capacity of the population, Proximity to the source / distribution network, need of the region and competition.

On the other hand Governments should be careful in opening up opportunities to the Business Houses in India as many of them (usually small ones) follow the "Herd Mentality" they flock to a business where they see some success stories e.g. Airline industry (today nobody knows where the East-West Airlines have vanished) , Telecom industry many have burnt their fingers by jumping into a market with a saturated bandwidth Spectrum next to face the music is the Retail and Real Estate/Reality industry and slowly but surely the death of many Media Houses and News Channels (the ones which have become more of a Music channel) are in sight. The Government should control this flocking and channelize the resources available with various Business Houses to different Areas of opportunites.
India is a Big Growing Economy and there is enough market space in various segments for one to make a fortune but the million dollar question is are you moving in the right/unique direction ?

Tata Nano - A Dream Come True for millions of Indians

Today, Thursday the 10th of January 2008, Tata Group chairman Mr.Ratan Tata unveiled the Tata Nano at the 9th Auto Expo in New Delhi.

And if I rephrase what Neil Amstrong said after stepping on the Moon, it would be

"A small dream of a man is now a great reality for millions of Indians"

When launched, the car will be available in three versions (standard,luxury and super luxury with AC). All versions will offer a wide range of body colours, and other accessories so that the car can be customised to an individual's preferences.
Nano has a rear-wheel drive, all-aluminium, two-cylinder, 624 cc, 33 bhp, multi-point fuel injection All aluminium petrol engine disel will follow later. This is the first time that a two-cylinder gasoline engine is being used in a car with single balancer shaft.
The lean design strategy has helped minimise weight, which helps maximise performance per unit of energy consumed and delivers high fuel efficiency 20km per liter on city roads . Performance is controlled by a specially designed electronic engine management system.
Nano's safety performance exceeds current regulatory requirements. With an all sheet-metal body, it has a strong passenger compartment, with safety features such as crumple zones, intrusion-resistant doors, seat belts, strong seats and anchorages, and the rear tailgate glass bonded to the body. Tubeless tyres further enhance safety. The high fuel efficiency also ensures that the car has low carbon dioxide emissions, thereby providing the twin benefits of an affordable transportation solution with a low carbon footprint.

At the launch Mr.Tata said, "I observed families riding on two-wheelers -- the father driving the scooter, his young kid standing in front of him, his wife seated behind him holding a little baby. It led me to wonder whether one could conceive of a safe, affordable, all-weather form of transport for such a family."
"Tata Motors' engineers and designers gave their all for about four years to realise this goal. Today, we indeed have a People's Car, which is affordable and yet built to meet safety requirements and emission norms, to be fuel efficient and low on emissions. We are happy to present the People's Car to India and we hope it brings the joy, pride and utility of owning a car to many families who need personal mobility" he added.

''Since, a promise is a promise the standard dealer version will cost Rs 1 lakh'' said Tata Sons chairman Ratan Tata.

Tata said the 624 cc, 33 HP petrol engine meets Bharat Stage-III emission norms and can also meet the Euro 4 norms.

Religion Column in our Application Forms

There I was in one of the web forums and I saw someone posing the following Question for a debate

" Should Govt. remove the religion column from application forms at all levels of enrollment or inquiry??"

To strengthen his point he cited the plight of the parent who had an inter-religion marriage and now were in dilemma about stating the religion of their child. He even went to the extent of quoting high divorce figures among the inter-religion marriages due to the clashes among relatives to enforce their religion on the new born.

The debate went on till infinity with no solutions and unfortunately without even 0.000000001% of our population taking a note of it or even being aware of it.

And I thought what could be the right way to get consensus on such an important topic without involving the vested interests of our well known corrupt political system, even if the masses gave their consent who will have the political will to implement it ?
I have no answers as I look through my open window.

Actually this debate requires a greater Forum , unfortunately even our TV channels and News Bureaus have become TRP conscious and every other Debate becomes a thing of the hour , no Pranoy Roys , Karan Thapars, Rajdeep Sardesais or Barkha Duttas have able to bring about any changes in the political responsiveness to the issues nor any accountability to the social welfare, all they managed were broken forces of Mass Media (or were they divided by someone who knows) all heading a small news channel and few high perks, Social responsibility of the media is the last thing in anybody's mind. They flare up the trivial issues like Mr.X kissing Miss.Y or Defacing of some Statue, which a matured media could have well ignored and Nation wide violence could have be contained to a local incident.
Even the Lead India program by well know publication house is all about TRP , if any wise man question the entire objectivity of such an event - I am sure they all will scamper for answers.

There is no hope for India when politicians decide perks for themselves and as well as immunity for everything and Media play the King Maker.

Even the other day when the masses stand in long queue to be frisked at the Airport,
these politicians the deemed demigods excused themselves as well as Army chiefs from being frisked .

The argument laid down by them was these army men protect our borders and hence frisking them is an insult to their integrity but what about us we citizens who live within
the same borders are we terrorists to be frisked or are we second grade mortals?

This country is being run by the whims and fancies of the few, when state like Kerala reel under power cuts , the same Party of the ruling faction in the state oppose Bills at the Center that will bring in Nuclear power to India, who needs bombs when masses are dying for basic amenities, the man on the street don't want a bomb. All he needs is two square meals a day and he will only get it when India's industrial development is backed by a stronger infrastructure.
Rather than being a termite the leaders should learn to be a honey cow though both are parasitic the later one is beneficial for the ants too (read common man).

Religion is a political weapon no one would dare to disarm themselves of this weapon not even the one who suffers from it , coz he can gain sympathy through it .

The Recycling Race

"Not only is our family idiosyncratic but they compete with each other's idiosyncrasies," said the man in the gray suit.

The innocuous action that prompted this denouncement was this: his father tore off the top half of a greeting card, wrote a charming message on it, and re-sent it to a friend, thus putting one good greeting card to two good uses.

"Why can't you just buy another greeting card? Why use every scrap of paper umpteen times?" the man in the gray suit lamented.

"This is a wasteful society," his father replied. "The amount of paper that gets wasted in this country is galling."

I agreed with the father, being no stranger to paper recycling myself. For years, I have written my grocery lists on the back of the coupons I get in my mail. I even tear the coupon in half if my grocery list is less than four items. I use the other half to write nasty notes to my dry cleaner for ruining my husband's shirt.

But none of us are a patch on the master of recycling -- my mother in law -- who would not only tear the top half of a greeting card and re-send it to someone else, but also re-send it without any message so the receiving party could reuse the top half of the greeting card.

Having entered my marriage fresh from a new-age graduate school where all the cool people were environmentalists who spoke of adopting babies simply to recycle the number of children in the world, I was full of admiration for my mother-in-law.

For years, my husband received birthday cards from his mother with nothing written inside, the rationale being that the sentiment of sending the card was more important than the hand-written words inside. The unwritten instruction to my husband, of course, was that he reuse his birthday card by sending it to someone else.

We are a race of recyclers -- we Indians. Our third-world thrift combined with the multiple uses that a resource-constrained society finds for each object causes us to be champion recyclers. The same plastic bag that is used to carry coconuts to the temple is then used to wrap idlis for the train journey, washed and reused as a head-covering during a sudden monsoon downpour and then reaches its final resting place as a mildly torn garbage bag.

While Americans use and throw away paper towels with gay abandon, Indians treat them like cloth, reusing paper towels to wipe kitchen counters after wiping their hands. We use shopping bags as garbage containers, never throw away the extra ketchup packets from McDonald's, and reuse our 20-pound plastic rice bags to carry pickles from India.

When I went back home, I was amused at how my mother had used and creatively reused all the gifts I sent her. Clinique's Turnaround Cream had been turned around into a container for camphor. An old Oil of Olay bottle now squeezed out sandalwood paste. An empty Godiva chocolate box contained smelly laddus and other prasadams that were too spoilt to eat but not spoilt enough to throw away and attract the wrath of the Gods. My mother received too much prasad from the temples she visited frequently for her to eat. For a while, she had fed dogs, cows and erstwhile sparrows the remnants of her prasad hoping to pass on some of the good karma. Then one day, our dog developed diarrhea after eating Lord Venkateswara's laddus, ending Amma's charitable distribution of prasadams to the animals surrounding her. The Godiva box came to the rescue and stored ancient foil-wrapped pieces of badam, pista, along with sacred ash, sandalwood, and kumkum that she collected from temples. And there they lay till someone in the house complained of the smell.

My father never throws out diaries, even old ones. He makes all his astrological calculations on diaries. During the years preceding my brother's marriage, Appa's diaries were filled with horoscopes of suitable girls, along with his comments on their merits and demerits. January contained a list of girls from Madras along with their biodata, horoscope and family background, February contained girls from Bombay, March from Delhi, April contained the names of girls recommended by friends, May represented close family friends who had daughters of marriageable age.

And so it went. Whenever he wanted me to look up some detail of a girl he was considering, he would call cryptically, "Look up January 28th's birth date. I want to make sure she is suitably younger than your brother."

My Dad is one of the few people who hates traveling with the requisite two gargantuan boxes that most Indians carry back and forth across the Atlantic. If it were up to him, he would come for a six-month visit to the US with a 60-inch box. This single-box practice of my Dad's would have continued forever were it not for my mother offering to help with my spring cleaning. When Amma saw me carrying garbage-bags full of clothes out to the curb one afternoon, she intervened.

"Why are you throwing away all those good clothes?" she asked.

"Well, they are old, and I have grown out of most of them. If we place them by the curb, the Salvation Army will pick it up for recycling," I replied.

"Why donate good quality clothes to the American Army when they can be used by the poor people back home?" my mother said.

After that, my father was forced to carry two suitcases. He came with one suitcase mostly empty and returned with it filled with old clothes that would be distributed to the servants, vegetable vendors, the flower lady, the iron-man, and all their respective children. When I returned I saw my old Gap T-shirt being worn by the iron-man's 14-year-old daughter. She had braided her hair with oil, worn a large vermilion dot on her forehead, washed her cheeks with fresh yellow turmeric, worn dangly Indian ear-rings and looked resplendent above the gray Gap T-shirt.

It gave me a queer sense of deja vu to watch the Levi's blue jeans (that I couldn't fit into) worn by the scrawny vegetable vendor, my husband's torn Ralph Lauren polo shirt on the flower-seller who we all called Midnight Manu because he was so black. All of them came and thanked us profusely for bringing them 'Amricaan,' clothes. With the characteristic generosity of the poor, the flower-seller gave me extra strings of jasmine, the fruit vendor gave me a few more oranges and the iron-man ironed my clothes for free, all in gratitude of my old clothes that I was going to throw away.

Nowadays, magazine articles have been written proving that recycling is a waste of time and doesn't help preserve the earth's resources. But I think that for us Indians, recycling is second nature and reflects our inborn outrage at waste. I don't think that we recycle to save the earth; I think we do it to save our souls.

Today 23rd July 2007 - Our most beloved, most honoured and respected President Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam stepped down as President of India.

He is succeeded by Smt.Prthibha Patil, my best wishes to our new President.

As I look thru my open window I could see how Indian interest was swept under the carpets for mere Political gains.

A man of the Stature of Dr.Kalam could be given the Indian Presidentship umpteenth number of times but for some vested interests who thought otherwise.

A window through which a wind of change was so forcefully flowing , was forced shut.

Respected our beloved President. We are really happy to see a president like you, who is role model to all the people and not for the politicians. I think, that is why you are away from the prestiges Office. For the past 5 yrs were eagerly seeing to your NEWS in TV's and other NEWS media, that what you have told to day. Though you came to your office in a different circumstances, you were just great in your job, I feel like you were not like a rubber stamp to any people, you just kept what you felt is right for the nation and for the people, you were true to your thoughts and vision and acted the same way, but for sure I can tell you that from 25th of June, it is going to be a rubber stamp office again.All the president to my knowledge were just a high degree post in the country, but you made it as a post of dignified people who has a vision to the nation. But, what to do? it is gone of again.I really respect your decision, it is really true that, if you had opted to stand, some people will gain a lot with that, and others will play political game with it, and they will use you as a political agenda in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election, telling that they have made you as the president and they will ask vote with it. You have shut down all those mouth with just staying away from it and come back to your own professional.IT IS TRUE that YOU ARE THE PEOPLE's PRESIDENTand not the POLITICIANS PRESIDENT.

The Search for An Open Window

All the windows around are closed towards the change, the change in ethos, beliefs, culture, tradition and orthodoxy. The windows around are tainted with the colors of prejudice, hypocrisies, racism, feudalisms, capitalism and fundamentalism.

What are these windows ? Where do they open to?

These windows open to ones mind, ones thoughts and perception.

But today our social environment has closed and nailed with all the social restrictions and chauvinisms.My dream of An Open Window through which the air of change and flows freely and the allow sanity prevail over insanity, humanity our community and liberty over society.

I am looking across an open window with the hope that winds of change will blow open the most securely closed windows and bring about an ambiance more condusive for the humanity to thrive and prosper.
