style="text-align: center;">Last year the only thing that worked was the spray that had way too much deet in it. I was constantly worried about it on my kids, especially my five year old. Well this year, I have found something that actually works. There are tons of natural sprays out there, but the reason they are not affective is because they are using essential oils that have been adulterated and heavily diluted by multiple distillation processes. I have found that Young Living’s 100% therapeutic grade medicinal oils do the trick. I blogged about in over on the lounge. I am still working over there to get all the posts up of the recipes we used at the event last week. If you want to find out the dangers of diet and know how we made this spray, you can find the recipe <a

It was amazing that we were able to put this together in as little as three weeks! We have a great team! Monique and I were both so nervous, me more than her. The Lord is definitely throwing me out of my comfort zone by having me speak in front of so many people! I am used to just hiding behind a blog!

<img

I can promise you though, for those of you who know my 13 year old, she was looking for a thousand different ways to get up there and entertain us while we were setting up. It’s amazing how completely opposite we are there. I am terrified of the stage and she is most comfortable there!

So, how about these T’s? Aren’t they so cute?? We have been saying “there’s an oil for that” since the day we bought our kits.
I was really excited that all of our droppers were able to have T-shirts in time for the event so that guests could see who could answer questions and walk them through the ordering process.

<img

I could see them from the balcony while we went over our notes and said a quick word of prayer.

<img

I was so excited to see so many people wanting to learn more about alternative medicine. I really just stood in awe for second at just how many people he brought into that room.

<img

There were several miraculous testimonies given and I am certain everyone left inspired and with a smile on their faces.

<img

The cost of food is going up and now we are eating food that cost 30% more than processed foods. Gas is going up. People are losing jobs. Country’s are going under. Goodness. We have bills to pay, debt we owe, and places we want to go! I’ve been praying and praying and praying for God to bless our finances and he so has. My husband has a great job and we are blessed with so much. We are still paying for bad financial decisions in the past and for our “BC” (Before Christ) lifestyle. I want this gone so that I can be blessed to be a blessing. I have been waiting for God to show up and just put it in my lap. But Wednesday night, the Holy Spirit showed up and spoke to my heart. I must partner with him. He can do what He can do, and I have to do what I can do. The natural and the Supernatural must work together. The pastor that was speaking at my church said something very profound. It was loud to me. He shared a verse from 2 Kings 4 that said, “you may not have what need, but you will always have a seed.” Good grief David had a rock! A rock people. Not an AK 47, or an AR 15, but a tiny little rock. He had the faith to pick up what he had, what God had given him and use it to slay a giant. God demands a step of faith first. You have to be willing to get up and move! Monique just introduced me to a lady on Facebook, Sandy Krakowski. If you don’t follower her, look her up. I love her motivational quotes. Anyway she posted this the day after I heard this message and I knew it was confirmation for me.

<img

It makes you believe that to delay is good & justifies our passivity. Don’t go into deep thought. Move!”- Sandi
I realized that back in November, God began preparing my heart for health and wellness. After a long 12 years of dealing with food allergies, eczema, outdoor allergies and asthma, the Lord introduced me to an amazing company called Young Living. I began using their products, recommended by a friend and a Nurse Practitioner, for what I believe, a pretty serious staff infection on the back of my daughters legs from eczema. She had hard purple areas all over it that were so sore to the touch she would scream, like loud. Over a period of about 4 days I began to see the infection wear off and after 2-3 weeks, the exzcema was hardly visible. My only regret was not taking pictures but I was so wrapped up in getting this healed up it was the last thing on my mind. I had no idea at the time that this was the beginning of a thriving business. The Lord had put a seed right there in my lap and I didn’t realize it. I began telling people about it when people that we know began commenting on how great her skin looked. I was so happy with how things went with these two products that I ordered the Everyday 9 Kit from Crystal because I wanted to experiment more. I dove in head first with lemon, lavender, peace and calming and thieves along with others of my favorites. We began to see results with our outdoor allergy issue using lavender.
One day we were on a field trip with Monique and her girls. I was drenching Anna Kate in lavender on the way down and had made her take a pill orally.( WARNING: you can only ingest the oils that I recommend. They are unadulterated and food grade 100% therapeutic oils). We went hiking in the fall leaves for an hour and she had no sneezing. UNHEARD OF. No joke. Normally I would have had her downing the zyretec. She had it in her back pocket and applied it when she felt like she needed it. We went home and had only minor wheezing but no meds were needed. Over time it has built up in her system and is working great. (FYI- we do allergy shots too and in combo with oils, we are now off of ALL meds. She even went for a run in the thickest pollen you have ever seen and had no problems) Using this in front of Monique got her interested and she started using them too with GREAT results for her stomach issues. Over a few weeks time, this girl RAN with the whole business end of it and had shared it with like a gagillion people. I didn’t even know what to tell her to do because I was just using them for us. I had NO intentions of doing this as a business, especially when I found out it was a Network Marketing Company. I hate those, I always have. I’ve done them before and they have always been just ICK to me, just being honest. Sorry if that offends but I’m being for real. I’ve done them in the past and vowed to NEVER do them again. I have literally RUN from friends trying to get me to do those things. Oh beware of those vows. They have a way of biting you in the Butt. Never say Never to God. I started doing research on Young Living. And just being honest I did find one negative article on the quack watch site. I prayed about it and did a little more research and the positives HIGHLY out weighed that one negative article. This guy it seemed was out to get ANY alternative medications and had no facts to back up his statements. Young Living had facts and documents to back up their rebuttal. And for that matter, I really didn’t care. I had results, I personally knew others who were using them and that’s really all that mattered to me. I also really believe that knowing how to use alternative medicine in important. I still believe in doctors, don’t get me wrong. There is a time and a place for BOTH. I have found that 50 US hospitals are now using Young Living essential oils, including the Cleveland Clinic who has hired staff specifically for this. I also recently found out that Gary Young, the founder has been asked by the FDA to help them set standards for natural products. That says a lot right there.
Okay so I knew they worked, I saw Monique doing well and just for what she had done under me and the first month I got a 390.00 check in the mail. WHAT?? That paid for our oil habit and then some. I realized after that Wednesday night that God has tripled that check in 3 months. WOW. It should be over 1000. That would be a seed right there. I had to move. I HAD to move!
God has opened up this door for me and its my job in the natural to walk through it and then let him take care of the supernatural. And supernatural he has done. If you had asked me a year ago if I would be even using these things I would have said you were crazy. Since Janurary, Monique and I have added 117 people to our team. We have created a unique and special group on Facebook called the Lemon Drop Lounge for people to ask questions and read testimonies. We have a super awesome and creative friend, Lindsay who is doing an awesome job with our graphics.

Since February this group has grown to almost 500 people. Friends are being made and lives are being changed. I have had the ability to pray for numerous people and that makes my heart happy. We have added a second group called The Lemon Droppers for people who are wanting to work the business and as of right now, she and her husband are working to launch our very own sites. www.thelemondroploundge.com and www.lemondroppers.com. We are so pumped about that. We have some really cool marketing ideas, T shirts and all kind of other crazy exciting things in the works.

I realized when this got going and after I did my taxes that retail was STINKING for me. I wasn’t really making that much money having these booths. Mom still has her booth at Vintage and we are still selling Miss Mustard Seed’s Paint there. The girls are working up a schedule for classes on the paint really soon. I will still be talking about that some here on the blog. DIY and decorating is in my blood and it’s a part of this blog. It will stay there. I love that the Lord gave me the name Restore Interiors. I can talk about our Restored Home, Restored Furniture, Restored Health and Restored hearts all wrapped up into one big blog. Go GOD.

So the Lord did put the seed in my lap, but it’s my job to make it grow. I can do what I can do in the natural and God can do the supernatural. I want to partner with God, don’t you? So if you have a need, pray about it. Ask God to show you where the seed is, he will show you. Then take it and run with it! Take a leap of faith. Shut out the skeptics if you want to go somewhere with God. You will be slaying giants in no time.

The post <a

This is the VERY reason this blog was started. JESUS. What he did this past weekend over 2000 years ago, not only saved me from a destructive life but also healed me after the loss of a child. For those of you who have been reading this blog for a while, you know, this is the very meaning behind, Restore Interiors. While I was restoring an old broken buffet, God began to mend my heart. You can read my story on my about me page. As I sat in church this weekend watching this video, some of these people whom I personally know, I was excited to say the least when they used a local artist who takes junk out of a garbage heap and makes beautiful works of art from them.

I thought of my good friend Donna, aka Funky Junk Interiors, and I thought about most of you who love to see something unimportant and cast away for garbage come back to life again with purpose and meaning. This video, needless to say brought tears to my eyes as I watched the great “Restorer” take these broken lives and make them new. Please watch this and as you do, remember how much you are loved. Remember that your creator seeks you just as you are. You don’t have to get your junk together before you go to God. He is already looking for you and loves you and accepts you just the way that you are. The junk.. well, we all have it. Let him help you fix it, one baby step and a time. I promise he will. And in the end, your junk will be a living testimony to the healing power of your Savior. May God richly bless you today. I am praying for each of you!

<iframe

There has been a lot going on around me, some good, some not so good but I do know God is GOOD! SO glad to know that. If you noticed, this week my blog was down. I made a big mistake by trying to update the new commerce plug in that I have been using. Apparently it didn’t like the theme I was using or the design, so it just wiped it. I was panicked, couldn’t fix it myself and turned to sweet Reni from Bliss and Tell to see if her guys could do something. On a side note, I LOVE her. She is the sweetest thing and was willing to help me so quickly to get it fixed. I’m saving my pennies to get her to do some branding for me. She is the best and her work is stunning. Okay so back to my story. I couldn’t afford to have Reni’s guys fix my blog at that time. I had another friend look into it, and there were bugs all through out my files. It would have taken HOURS to fix it by a professional. No other theme would work, the files were corrupted everywhere. I couldn’t even start over! It was that bad.
All I could do was to put it in God’s hands. Why didn’t I do that first? I’m working on that. So many things have changed around here. So many new doors have been opened and many others have been closed, I just thought this might be one of those closed doors. I was willing to give this ole’ blog up if that was what the Lord wanted me to do. I was crying, oh yes I was. I was frustrated that I couldn’t figure it out. I was telling God how unsmart (that’s not even a word, I know) I was, and that HE was the only one who knew what was wrong. As I sat there, staring at my screen the solution came to me. He revealed it to me, oh yes he did!! It was so simple at that moment. I got on live chat with host gator, they found my last back up and restored my blog back a few days. What lasted for days, took only five minutes to fix and 15.00. I took that as a big fat YES, you are still supposed to blog.

To make it even better, I got an email the same day from one of you telling me how the Holy Spirit lead them to my blog and needed to read my story as well as my tea cup post. Isn’t our God the coolest? Thank you Martha for sending that email and I am praying for your precious family.

<CETNER><img

Each of you are so special to me!

I hope you have a wonderful Thursday and thanks for making Restore Interiors a part of your day.

Blessings,
Saavy Mom asked me to come on air on Priority Talk Radio to talk about how to use Essential Oils in an emergency. I thought this was a fabulous topic for day three of our week of oils series here on the blog. I unfortunately couldn’t do the show because we had to go check on the cabin, but it was God’s plan for Monique to do it in my place! It was truly a God thing no joke. She rocked the segment. I would have been a nervous wreck. I told her in this situation she was my Aaron and I was Moses, “slow of speech and tongue” haha. She represented the Granola team well. I thought I would copy and paste her post so that you all could listen to the segment.
She also did another Emergency Preparedness Post HERE.
Seriously, the Everyday nine kit is a wonderful thing to have on hand for emergency. It never expires and does a multitude of good things. God really knew what he was doing when he created vegetation. What a miracle!

<img

So, if you read the post yesterday, Natural Disasters and The Everyday Oils Kit, you found out that I would be doing my first little radio interview. I will admit…I was FREAKING out and CRAZY nervous, but I lived through it and it was actually a LOT of fun. I was on Priority Talk 92.4 in Birmingham, and telling about essential oils and disaster preparedness. Priority Talk is on everyday from 1-3.

The crazy gals (and guys) on “Team Granola” were like my little pep team…they were cracking me up…ANYWAY, Jer told them he would record it and he finally posted it last night for them to hear. Just thought I would share it with you today. And again a HUGE HUGE thanks to Savvy Mom, Doran Helton for having me on.
I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the Everyday Oils Kit. No joke. You can read more about HOW to get you hands on this kit by reading…Becoming A Member Is NOT Signing Your Life Away. You can sign up to receive the Everyday Oils Kit by going to How To Sign Up To Become A Member….many people on the team I am sure referred you here to this post. All of their info is on the sign up page and will walk you through how to sign up under their member number.
If you have ANY questions at ALL, please, please, please leave them in the comment section of this post or shoot me a message on the contact form above.
I’m just SO thrilled that so many of you are giving this “NATURAL” thing a try. I’m telling you…it’s TOTALLY transformed my life. FOR REAL! I can’t wait to hear the stories of how they have transformed your’s as well.

<iframe

A neighbor not too far from us had 3 trees fall on her house during the storms on Monday. EEP! I kind a sorta had a feeling we should go scope it out. My Grandaddy built this cabin with a friend in 1976 out of scraps of free stuff. Everything they could get their hands on for free, they used. He then turned around and bought it from a friend. I have some sweet memories of this place, growing up with my grandparents here. It’s a sentimental little spot.
There was damage all around us but once we started down our big hill, we saw that the Lord had put his wings over it and all was well.
We had no power and had to clean out the fridge, but that is minimal compared to what many others had to deal with! Grateful.<br

It needs a new roof, it will be tin… My favorite. The bathroom needs a serious makeover and the place needs a good painting. ( HAHA, no this is not the cottage, it’s the well <img

Having two separate breaks is really messing me up! I have already missed gymnastics thinking they were closed and went to dance and they were closed. I have not been very successful getting those right this week! I know, I know, use a calendar. That is my FLAW! The calendar in the brain is apparently not working correctly. Oh well. We enjoyed the day running errands, shopping for some spring clothes, getting a treat at Steele City Pops, and topped it off with getting our very first co-op organic veggies from Manna Market today.

We got lots of great organic goodies like kale, collards, carrots, sweet potatoes and fruits. We got local organic eggs as well. We were blessed to be able to get these with zero pesticides, but unfortunately its not always possible for everyone. Non organics are full of pesticides that are now being linked to horrible disease from Autism to Cancer. When you can it’s always best to buy organic. But when it’s not possible you can use Lemon Essential Oil to get rid of many of the chemicals on non organics. Again, I only suggest Young Living. It’s the only brand I know that is safe to ingest and has not been laden with synthetic chemicals. They are 100% Therapeutic Grade Oils.

Because essential oils dissolve petrochemicals (used in some pesticides and herbicides), lemon oil is excellent used in a fruit & veggie wash. Add about 5 drops of lemon oil added to a large bowl of water and rinse produce. To disinfect a wood cutting board, rub in a drop or two of lemon oil. I do this all the time. This is one of the oils in the Everyday 9 member kit and the first one I ran out of! I had to order two the next month because I used it SO often. I love it in my water and tea and I LOVE it with shrimp and spinach. So Yum.

Here are a few more uses.

Lemon Essential Oil is awesome used in homemade cleaning recipes, dish soap, hand soap and laundry soap. Use 25-30 drops in the washing machine instead of bleach. To create your own lemony fresh “dryer sheet”, put 3-5 drops on a small rag and throw it in with the load in the dryer.

*Use 1–2 drops of lemon essential oil to remove gum, oil, grease spots, glue or adhesive, and crayon from most surfaces.
*Combine 2–3 drops of lemon essential oil with water in a spray bottle to help cleanse and sanitize surfaces.
*Place a drop of lemon essential oil on oily skin or blemishes to help balance oil glands and minimize oil production.
*Soothe corns, calluses, or bunions by rubbing lemon essential oil on the affected area morning and evening.
*Massage lemon essential oil into cellulite to help improve circulation and eliminate waste from cells.
*Add lemon essential oil to your morning tea or breakfast shake for a refreshing pick-me-up.( also may aid in cleansing the liver)
*Inhale lemon essential oil or place a few drops on a cotton ball to replenish your mind, body, and spirit.
*Add 10–15 drops of lemon essential oil to a gallon of carpet cleaning solution to help pull out stains, brighten carpet and rugs, and leave a fresh smell in the room.
*Add several drops of lemon essential oil to a chicken marinade for a delicious dinner.
*Place a few drops of your favorite citrus essential oil on a cotton ball and put in the refrigerator to help eliminate odors.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what this little bottle can do! I think its one of the best values and a great oil to start with if you are unsure or just want to try one. I have it in the market here for 14.82.

For members it’s 11.25 plus you get the added benefits of cheap shipping and points racked up for free oils. For new members who buy the Everyday 9 kit, it comes with it. I think of my membership as a Costco membership with extra benefits. You can get it for as low as 40.00 and they give you two free oils. It’s kind of a wash. We get all of our vitamins, shampoo, toothpaste, supplements and oils here. It was a win win for us. You can use my member number-1367019. You should see my name pop up. Follow the instruction on Granola Convert here. You will also be invited to join the Granola Oils Facebook group, a great place to ask questions and make new friends. We have a lot of fun over there.

Here is a picture of the Everyday 9 Kit. It’s 150.00 and my FAVORITE kit.

Just a little heads up… I will be doing a DIY video sometime this week on how to make your own deet free bug repellent with two oils found in the kit. I’m excited about this one!

And as always I must tell you that…
.

I know there are a lot of you out there wondering the the heck I am doing talking more about Essential Oils and not as much DIY and decorating. I assure you, DIY and decorating will always be a part of this blog, it’s a HUGE passion of mine. I have however added the element of Health and Wellness to Restore Interiors. 2013 is a year for my family to “RESTORE THE INTERIORS” of our bodies. I talked a little about that here. If you had told me a year ago I would be talking about alternative medicine I would have called you crazy. HAHA. However, I believe now that it is extremely important for us all to know how to take care of our families if we were ever in a situation where healthcare was unavailable or unaffordable. For whatever reason, the Lord has intrigued me with this whole alternative medicine world. I am slightly obsessed. I want the tools in my house that I can use to treat my family for any malady that may come our way in the event we can’t see a doctor. I have no idea why, I’m just saying I feel strongly that it is important. I love that I can use a pure, therapeutic grade oil with medicinal properties that will benefit my body and its cells rather than pop a pill every time I feel an ache or pain. There is no worry that a prescription or over the counter medicine may be discovered as harmful such as a simple Z-pack. If you have not heard about the Z-pack, you can read the article here. Crazy stuff! I have also been using these oils for making my own chemical free cleaners, deet free bug repellant, to rid my home of odors and even to add flavor to drinks and food.

So I’ve just randomly talked about oils here and there on the blog since January but never really given you a full explanation of what they are and why I use them. So I thought I would do a week long series on Essential Oils starting today. I’ve been studying and reading A LOT on this subject and continue to learn new things along the way.<br

I’ve been asked this question a lot so I decided to start here.

An essential oil is that aromatic, volatile liquid that is within many shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes and seeds that is usually extracted through steam distillation. The chemistry is extremely complex and may consist of hundreds of chemical compounds. They are HIGHLY concentrated and way more potent than dried herbs because of this distillation process. Amazingly, it requires large volumes of plant material to produce very small amounts of oil. For example, Rose takes 5,000 pounds of petals to produce 1 kilo of oil. Crazy right? Now, I only use Young Living Oils because they are the only company that has been around for a while that still uses organic heirloom seeds and adds no synthetic ingredients. Young living also only distills once. Other companies will take the plants through several distillation processes, making them less potent and more watered down.
Young Living Oils are completely unadultarated. This makes most of the oils safe for ingestion. Obviously common sense and proper instruction should be used. Although they are completely natural, you must respect their power. Users should have a basic knowledge about the safety of the oils.

Here is what Young Living Says about their process…

Here is what Young Living says about their process.
The process Young Living uses when planting, cultivating, harvesting, and distilling a batch of oil is crucial to retaining its vital compounds. Without the exact blend of naturally-occurring plant chemicals, an essential oil can lose its beneficial properties and fail to produce the desired effect.
Young Living Therapeutic Grade (YLTG) means that every essential oil Young Living distills or sources has the optimal naturally-occurring blend of constituents to maximize the desired effect. Young Living is able to make this assertion because of our strict cultivation process—illustrated by the Four Ps—that guarantees the optimal potency of every Young Living essential oil.
Plants
An oil’s potency can be affected not only by selecting the proper plant to cultivate, but also by where the plant is grown, the quality of soil in which the seed is planted, and even the time of day it’s harvested.
Young Living has extensive experience selecting the correct species of plant for desired oil potency, planting under optimal conditions, using ideal soil and natural methods to encourage growth, and knowing the precise time to harvest each crop. Only those plants that produce the most active and widest array of therapeutic compounds are selected.
Preparation
Once the optimal soil, plant, cultivation, and harvesting conditions have been adhered to, the plants must be distilled properly in order to meet Young Living Therapeutic Grade standards. Young Living uses a gentle, proprietary technique for steam-extracting the most potent essential oils, which remains unmatched throughout the essential oils industry.
To meet Young Living Therapeutic Grade distillation standards proper temperature must be maintained throughout the distillation process, and pressure, length of time, equipment, and batch size are strictly monitored.
Purity
Young Living Therapeutic Grade standards prohibit the acceptance of any diluted, cut or adulterated oils. Every product Young Living produces—essential oils, oil blends, nutritional supplements, or personal care—meets strict purity standards.
Every batch of essential oils is subjected to rigorous, state-of-the-art analysis at the Young Living chemistry lab. Using some of the most advanced equipment in the world, our scientists subject every batch of essential oils to Gas Chromatograph and Mass Spectrometer testing, and heavy metals analysis. Oils that exhibit even the slightest hint of possible adulteration or tampering are rejected.
Potency
The culmination of the preceding three stages, Potency means that the naturally occurring compounds contained in each essential oil product are of the highest and most consistent bioactive levels. Without strict adherence to the Young Living Therapeutic Grade standard in the Plant, Preparation, and Purity phases, the final product would not have the necessary potency to create the desired effect.

So what can an Essential Oil do for you?

The ability of an Essential Oil to act on both the mind and the body is what make them truly unique amongst natural therapeutic substances. The fragrance of some oils can be very stimulating both psychologically and physically. The fragrance of some may be calming and sedating helping to overcome anxiety or hyperactivity. Some may stimulate immune function and regenerate damaged tissue. They may combat infectious disease by killing viruses, bacteria and other pathogens. We personally have used them for fever, viruses, eczema, asthma, allergies, heart burn, nausea, sunburn, skin tags, headaches, liver cleanse, these just naming a few.

I got starting with my oil collection with an Everyday 9 Essential Oils Kit. It comes with 9 oils, 2 bonus oils and a diffuser coupon, giving me a great head start.

Monique and I both will be talking about what you can do with these 9 oils this week so be sure to stay tuned! It’s going to be a fun week! AND at the end of the week, I will be giving away two of my favorite oils as a wrap up to the week of oils series. I am so stressed over it, especially because the Lord has asked me to take a break from so much retail to concentrate on my kids, my own home and our health for this year. I’m praying that it all sells!

Here is my reality…

I still have so much stuff to go through and it starts in the morning, YIKES!<br

( she is doing her own sale and bake sale to raise money for our Birmingham Dream Center.)

Here are a few pictures of how I organized things. This is only half of it!

After this is over, I will share pictures and some things I learned along the way to make it successful.

<img

It’s great even for the house I am in now. It teaches you step by step how to achieve a harvest of TONS of veggies and fruits all grown in a very small space. It has so much more than gardening it the book like raising chickens! This book is so full of great information that I am going to use it as a supplement to my 8th grade science curriculum for Anna Kate. I highly recommend this book for beginners, especially if you are tight on acreage. It’s great and it’s only like 12 bucks. You can click on the book to go straight to amazon.

<a

I have been saving for this bad boy for a little while. After watching the documentary, “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” I decided I needed a juicer. But not just any juicer, the mac daddy of them ALL, the Vitamix 6300. It has the ability to do WAY more than just juice. It makes smoothies, ice cream, hot soups, breads, it grinds grains, shreds cheese, makes nut butters and the list goes on and on. I am in LOVE.

Here is the one I bought on Amazon, although I bought mine at Costco during a Vitamix Show.

<img

That’s right folks, I’m sneakin’ in the veggies. We are a smoothie making family if you haven’t noticed. We LOVE them. I have only had my Vitamix for 4 days and I have already fed my kids a bag of organic carrots, two avocados, and a slew of other veggies and fruits they dislike and they were none the wiser.

Funny Story…..

My 12-year-old thinks she is allergic to avocados and bananas. She is always telling me her mouth feels weird when she eats them. I have talked to her allergist and he said it could be the pollen but she is most likely not allergic. We have had all kinds of tests done. Just clearing that up so you don’t think I’m feeding my kid stuff she shouldn’t have, haha. I KNEW she just didn’t want to eat these two things because she has a texture thing going on and they both have the same “feel” in your mouth. I tested my theory last night….(insert evil laugh) MUUAHAHAHA!!!! If you know her, PLEASE do not tell her any of this! It will ruin my evil plan!! That’s right people, I snuck avocado in chocolate ice cream and they had no clue. They were even BEGGING for more!!

Don’t think you must have a Vitamix to make this. A regular blender will do the trick. Oh… And the cookie…..YUMMO. Gluten Free, Dairy Free chocolate chip with tons of calcium and healthy fat. I will be sharing that recipe soon!

<div

I used all of the things I have been saving for my farmhouse and they motivate me to keep the ball rolling at finishing up this house!

ALL of this stuff in here was either found at garage sales, thrift stores or estates sales except for a few things that were gifts and the pillows.

Dining Chairs – Les’s grandmother’s
All of my ironstone and items in my cabinet were picked up for a few dollars each over the years for a dollar or two.
The books are all of my granddads organic gardening books. I have been devouring them trying to figure out how to do it!
The book wreath was made by my 12 year old.
The old tool box was my grandaddy’s and the seltzer bottles were found on our family trip doing the longest yard sale in Tennessee.
The french chairs were 34.00 each at Past and Presents in Bluff Park.

I’m still collecting and working on the rest of the room, but I can say it is about 85% done! One step closer to a sign in the yard!

Happy Friday!
.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is just how perfectly our Father can trade beauty for ashes. Tragic circumstances, pain, disappointment, heartache, loss, grief, financial circumstances, divorce and I could go on and on and on. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. Pain seems to be all around me. We all face difficult situations in our lives. We have our own Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego moment. We all walk through some sort of hot furnace. The question is, when we do, how will we handle it? Will we hold on to what we believe? Will we hold our Father’s hand? Will we come out on the other side unscathed? Or will we harbor bitterness and anger towards God for allowing us to be put in these circumstances in the first place.
For those who have been around here a while, you know I lost a child. That was and still is the most defining moment of my life. Please, oh, PLEASE, don’t take this as a “please come pat me on the back” moment when I say this. But let me tell you, I was not about to let this situation defeat me. I knew who brought this on and it was NOT my God. Yes, He allowed it, but no, I don’t believe for a second he was the cause of it. That is a whole other post in itself. We chose as a family to accept whatever God was going to allow. We stood, we prayed for healing, we stood tall on every single word in scripture regarding healing. And to be honest, in the end, we may not have gotten the physical healing, but we did get healing. Elijah got a perfect body and we had our wounds bound up and healed by the ONE who loves us so much. We have a choice. We ALL have a choice.

Several years ago I did a Bible Study with my 12 year old who was then 10. I can’t remember the name of it to be honest but the author gave an extraordinary illustration of how a lady is much like a fine porcelain tea cup. They were using it to teach girls to respect themselves and their bodies, but I couldn’t help but think about how it relates to so much more than that.

This is my Grandmother’s tea cup. It’s beautiful isn’t it?

It hasn’t always been that way. It started out looking like this. A square, ordinary, plain, clump of clay. Talk about beauty for ashes! Did you know that to make a soft-porcelain, actual ashes are made from dry animal bones to form the clay? That is an amazing analogy of how we feel during and after a major trial. I felt like dried up dead bones, no kidding. But then the Father gave LIFE to those bones.

If you were this ball of clay, consider this. The potter has to continually knead the clay to soften it up. I would think that might cause a little pain. I am sure if this potter had big strong muscles the kneading would be just like torcher. And that piece of clay is thinking, “Oh my word, WHAT are you doing to me?! Why are you doing this to me, don’t you love me?” You see where I’m going with this, right? And then the potter must put the clay on the wheel. Oh, the spinning! The burning sensation of the wheel is painful and she is dizzy from going around and around and around and around. “Oh this MUST be the end of this”, the clay is thinking. “I cannot take any more. I am done. Please stop, you are hurting me!” But the clay TRUSTS anyway. The potter gently lifts the clay onto a stand and gets out his brushes. He strokes the clay with beautiful colors of pink and blue and high kerrats of gold. It’s not painful, just uncomfortable. Then the clay sees the potter heating up a furnace that is so hot she can feel the flames from the outside. And the potter opens the door. “NO, NO, NO!! You must be joking, you are NOT going to put me in there!! Are you? Really? Don’t you love me?” And the clay can see the potter from the inside of the furnace, watching and waiting until it’s time to open the door. FINALLY, the door opens and the potter removes the tea cup from the furnace. She is alive, unscathed, she doesn’t smell like smoke and she is STUNNING. The potter sits the tea cup on a very important stand and gives it a mirror. “Oh, I see now, all of this time you were creating me. You were shaping me into something of value, something of worth. You had a purpose for the pain. You had a purpose for me. You were forming me into a usable and desirable thing of beauty and you DO, love me.

Isaiah 64:8

But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

I say this to myself just as I say this to each of you. I pray that each time we walk through something difficult that we remember the tea cup. I pray that we make the choice to be molded and that our circumstances only make us stronger and draw us closer to the Father. I pray that we have the wisdom and discernment to realize that we are his workmanship. I pray that we stick to the Father like glue, clinging on for dear life as we walk through trials and hard situations so that when we are on the other side we can say, no matter what the outcome, God’s got our back, and he LOVES us. We must settle it in our hearts that He knows what He is doing. He sees the BIG picture.

I love you dear sisters!!<br

Well, I’m actually just going to tell you what I’m doing, and what I am learning. What happens from here? Well we will all just have to wait and find out. I hope it will be a bountiful harvest and not a dried up bunch of crunchy debris. I know that the Lord is pressing me to grow food for my family. REAL food. Not Genetically Modified food, but food from heirloom seeds that have been saved and are organic. I want to bring it straight into the house and onto the table where we are getting 100% of the nutrients. Our food system is so corrupt now that I am at the point where, I want to know where my food comes from.

So you know from my post, For Every Thing There is a Season, we may be moving. I don’t want to start a garden and plant my fruit trees here. So the next best thing is to container garden on my deck, trying to get the most out of the pots I already own. It may not be pretty, but if it will produce delicious beef steak tomatoes I don’t care how pretty the pot is. I spent the weekend cleaning my pots. I planted some things last year that didn’t do so well and after reading several books on container gardening I figured out why. Goodness. I should never, ever just assume I know what I am doing. Gardening is a science, for real. I tried to use left over soil from the year before. DUH. All the nutrients were used up and my containers didn’t have proper drainage. I also didn’t clean them. The most important thing that I read about getting started with growing vegetables in pots is that your pot must be free of bacteria. This really is good advice for growing anything in a pot. I pulled up my <a

You may get two posts today!

I found this picture on Pinterest. My words exactly, “food for the body and soul.” Just thinking about the smell of Lavender puts me in a calm and relaxed mood. My girls reach for it as perfume, we use it to heal cuts and burns, and to treat seasonal allergies. We put a drop in tea to receive the same calming benefits of chamomile tea, I could go on an on. It has done amazing things for dry skin when combined with coconut oil or used in lavender lotion. We have made bath salts with epsom salt and drops of lavender because it is MAGNIFICENT in a bath. There are lots of ideas on Pinterest for using this oil. I diffuse it in my essential oils diffuser as well.

Here is what Young Living has to say about their Lavender Essential Oil.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) has a fresh, sweet, floral, herbaceous aroma that is soothing and refreshing. Because it is the most versatile of all essential oils, no home should be without it. Lavender is an adaptogen, and therefore can assist the body when adapting to stress or imbalances. It is a great aid for relaxing and winding down before bedtime, yet has balancing properties that can also boost stamina and energy. Therapeutic-grade lavender is highly regarded for skin and beauty. It may be used to soothe and cleanse common cuts, bruises, and skin irritations. The French scientist René Gattefossé was among the first to discover these properties when he was severely burned in a laboratory explosion. Lavender may also be used to enhance the flavor of foods. Lavender has an approximate ORAC of 3,669 (TE/L). TE/L is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent per liter.
<p

I think I’m in farmhouse mode because everything I went for today had that feel and I don’t want to get rid of anything I bought! I came away with a crusty old vintage scale, some vintage flash cards and an old cosco stool from the 50′s. I’d say that’s a good day! I got the scale for 6, the stool for 5 and the flash cards for 50 cents. SCORE! So here’s my question for you…..

What should I do with the stool? Paint it or just clean it and leave it, rust and all.

<img

Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, I created a DIY tray out of a cabinet door. You can see that post here. I still had one left over. They were cabinet doors that came off of my moms bathroom cabinet. Anywhoo….I took this with me to the demo yesterday in hopes that I would get lots of “peel” from the milk paint because they were painted with oil based paint. Boy was I RIGHT and it was REALLY cool. The most authentic part is the oil based shiny white peeping through…. LOVE this.

Here is how I did it.

1. The original finnish was white, shiny, oil based paint.

2. I painted a layer of Boxwood found here, over the cabinet. Only one coat was necessary and no boding agent was used.

3. I let it dry to the touch, We used a hair dryer to help it along. It began to peel so I scraped all peeling paint off with a putty knife.

4. I then applied a layer of hemp oil with a piece of a t-shirt. Hemp Oil is found here.

5. I immediately went over the hemp oil in linen found here. The hemp acted as a resist to the milk paint, allowing me to layer the paint effectively. Then then the white began to peel and I did the same thing I did in step 3.

6. Make sure all of the flakes are off and seal with wax or hemp oil.

Now you can imagine, you could paint layers and layers of paint on a piece, making it look like it was peeling 100 years of crustiness off. This truly lends an authentic look.

That’s my tip of the day! Use Hemp Oil as a resist. I have only used it with milk paint. I am not sure if it would work with chalk paint, but if someone tries that out, let me know!

Happy Painting!

<img

We are gearing up for a whole lot of fun. We did a Milk Paint Demo and scheduled our first classes. I am so excited to be teaching painting classes starting in March. The first two will be Milk Paint 101. This will be a basic class to get you familiar with how milk paint works. March 14th is our first class. We will paint until you are done from 11-5. If you get through sooner, you don’t have to stay that long. You will be able to bring your own small piece such as a frame, a small end table or side table, basically anything that you can carry in and we can put on a table. Something in a wood finish works best but painted pieces are fine too. I will provide snacks and drinks and all of the supplies. For more information or to register, you can call Vintage Interiors at 205-620-1900. The cost is 85.00. I hope to meet some of you there!

I just finished up this Ethan Allen Cabinet. Originally I had done it in kitchen scale but it needed a little more detail. I changed out the hardware with vintage style glass pulls from Lowe’s and Layered the Kitchen Scale with Grainsack. This piece was delivered and is for sale at Vintage Interiors for 299.00.

If you want to re-create this look, you will need Kitchen Scale, Grain Sack, Hemp Oil, Antiquing Wax and Furniture Wax. All of these items are available in the Market here on my blog.

<img

Not a bad little multipurpose caddy for 2 bucks. Isn’t it so much fun to think outside the box?

<br

I’m not really sure where this came from, but I think it’s just plain weird. Kids have them on T shirts, cell phone cases, and other accessories. I’ve even seen the occasional teenage male growing a stash. Ew. Seriously, what’s the deal? Did I miss out on some movie or popular song that set this whole thing viral? I don’t get it. Obviously I’m not a huge fan of the stash but I definately won some cool mom points for these.

Abbie and I got our inspiration from Pinterest. These little valentines were all over the place. We just put our little spin on it. I’ve been working hard to keep the sugar out of my house so a treatless valentine seemed like the way to go. There are always “left-overs” that usually end up in my mouth and my kids certainly didn’t need it.

We used Photoshop, some clear bags from clearbags.com and a few packs of mustaches from Books-a-Million. We had a lot of fun doing this together and I love how they turned out!

<img

I’ll be taking notes for next year.

The post <a

I love it when God just out of the blue, plops people right down in the middle of your life, that you know, without a doubt, he placed there for a special purpose. Her name is Natalie and she has a blog called We are Rooted.

Natalie is the one on the right…

I met Natalie through my friend Monique over at Granola Convert. Natalie is so in love with the Lord. Her love for Jesus is like a mirror in the sunlight. It bounces right off of her and onto every human she comes into contact with. I love her heart, I love her spirit and I LOVE her blog! Natalie is so passionate about teaching others the importance of hiding God’s word in your heart. Another really cool thing about Natalie is that she raises chickens and goats. Just the kind of friend I need to teach me about chickens, haha!

Today for Market Monday, I thought I would share with you these awesome T’s Natalie sells to benefit three great ministries. My favorite for this season is the “Radiant T.”

14-16 “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.

Natalie says,

“We encourage you to study, learn and know your verse!! When the opportunity resents itself~ tell them what your WORD is about!!! Hide His word in your heart and SHARE His word with others!! Be unashamed!!

On the back of each shirt, at the neck, you will find our “Word Warrior” logo, Encouraging ALL to become Word Warriors for Him!!

Join the movement!!!
