How I wrote My INCinema Entry Script

I haven't blogged for like forever and now, suddenly, when all around me is pitch black due the frequent brownouts, I feel like blogging. Thanks to my working broadband! I realized that I should document my new role as a script writer in our district's INCinema entry.I also got very excited because the Director of the INCinema Film Walang Take Two won as Best director at London Film Festival. I hope to meet Direk Carlo Cuevas! So let me write!

Let's flash backward to September of 2015.

When this new opportunity came, I was in the middle of a school program as MC. I couldn't respond to the call right away. I went to the backstage and returned the call. Our newly appointed Compostela Valley CFO Officer asked me if I could be a scriptwriter. I told him I could write a script but I have no professional experience of writing one. Then he told me we will go to Central to attend a seminar and the awarding of 2015 INCinema winners. All the thrills of the world draped me! I severely wanted to attend a worship service at Central. I haven't been to one! How could I not say YES? I was teary-eyed due to extreme excitement. Wow! How could something so amazing happen to me? Salamat po Ama!

At last, the time for us to fly to Manila came and I was beyond excited because my University roomie at Mindanao State University - Marawi City was also the representative of Lanao for this event! Imagine the thrill of seeing an old bestie/soul-sister in a church international event. Wow! everything went over the moon when I met the Walang Take Two main characters at the Ministers' Apartelle where we were hosted. I also met Ailene Manaog, a very kind INCinema staff. Through her, I met several other Main Casts and staffs of Walang Take Two. On that night, I was very much overwhelmed upon meeting brethren from Canada. Ecstatic when I heard them talk. Hahah! So twang!

It was unfortunate that the seminar during that time wasn't realized. However, we were inspired during the INCinema awarding ceremony. From someone who came from the distant Compostela Valley, I felt so amazed of the TV-related equipment during the show in the tabernacle. Wow! I saw a glorious Iglesia Ni Cristo! I have never been to Philippine Arena events and I wish to be in one too! I saw the members of Sangunian and I can't help but become teary-eyed. Those gentlemen protected and fought for the church. Seeing them even from afar made me close my eyes and thank God for that event. I cried when winners addressed their thanks to Ka Eduardo. During that time, I closed my eyes and imagine my self doing the same. Wow! I remember my old self imagining how I would feel when I would graduate from Graduate School. It motivated me BIG time. I was also impressed by the production number of "Kapatid Ko". When I came back, I showed it to Kadiwa officers in DavNor and ComVal ( I belong to two districts hahaha, home = ComVal, Work = DavNor). During the Buklod night at Compostela, Compostela Valley, the same production number was presented to parents by KadBin members. Now, we are planning to do the same for our KadBin activity in Capitol, DavNor.

Last December, we met Ka Galang at Davao City and had the INCinema seminar. I learned so much from him and swore in my heart, that I will really finish the script and will even take a leave from work should it be necessary. I love the concept of INCinema. As a Marketing Professor, I know how social media, TV shows and music influence the youth. I understand that constant exposure to certain ideologies on these various media wires the brain slowly into different set-up. I understand how Teleseryes and Movies these days are trying to change the way we think and live as a true Christian. But we should never be swayed! INCinema is a brainchild of Ka Eduardo and I deeply believe in the Vision of this endeavor. Ka Eduardo wanted to expose brethren to the correct set of thoughts via films. To influence actions, we must first influence the way we think. To do that we must "plant" the correct thoughts in our "bed of thoughts" and cultivate them. There is a great need for shows and films hat shall not corrupt our Christian thought. Brother Eduardo established INCinema. How noble is that! Salamat po Ka Eduardo! This will also be a very ideal venue for members of the church to explore their talents while growing spiritually together. Ahhhhh..just WOW!

I finished the script last December and when I had my 2nd draft, I presented it to our Director and CFO and they liked it. I am also thankful of the ideas from my churchmates. Presently, we are on our pre-production stage already. I gave copies of my 4th draft to our CFO District Officer, Director and Casts. Just yesterday, I finished the 5th draft. I tend to keep on improving things. I wanted every scene to be coherent and robust. Our only problem now is that we haven't conducted a general meeting. We had 4 meetings already but we needed to really gather as a whole. With the Holy Supper approaching and with most of us holding key duties, I hope and pray that we can meet and finish the film. I feel giddy knowing that they like the script and they are all willing to help in improving it. I still need much help.

Anyway, here the things that I did in order to finish the script.

1. Paper and Pen. Brought along with me a notebook and pen all the time so that could write my random thoughts there all the time.
2. Learn From Others. I watched tutorial videos online about scriptwriting. I got worried about the very technical part of it but I realized that I should not worry about it much in the earlier part of the script-making because what I needed is a story. I shall worry about the technical part during the submission of the script which will be in the later part.
3. Watch Related Films. I watched films. I decided that the film should be funny but the story should be rich. So I watched the Wedding Ringer and watched the series Arrow. I also watched previous INCinema entries.
4. Be with Friends. I talked to my funny friends and asked them what kind of movie scenes they find funny. Some of the scenes in my script are inspired from their stories.
5. Remember Previous Experiences. I wrote funny scenes I encountered as a teacher and tutor.
6. Section the Script. I divided the whole script into three. ACT 1, ACT 2 and ACT 3.
Each Act have different goals.
ACT 1 - in 5 minutes, I must introduce all the main cast and present their desires. I made a "Surprising/Twist Event" in the last part. That event led me to Act II.
ACT- The goal was to make the Protagonist have a hard time. Then have a "Surprising/Twist Event" in the middle and last part of this act. I reserved 20 minutes for this part.
ACT III- The deciding part. It's how the conflict is solved.
7. Map it out. I also list down the characters and their desires and conflict so that I could imagine well how they will react on certain things. I wrote a relationship map. It's a map showing how all characters are related and how they feel towards each other. I tend to forget things so that map was helpful.
8. Narrate. I tried to narrate the story to my friends and check if they look interested in the flow of the story. Friends are sometimes afraid to hurt my feelings so I was very keen on checking their initial facial expressions. During the story telling, some better idea would suddenly flood me and those made the story better.
9. Decide on themes. I wrote also all the themes that I want to showcase in the story and made sure that each theme can observed in the scenes of the script.
10. PRAY. The most crucial is...I PRAYED. I prayed before writing. The script is in all of my prayers. I also look at the picture of Philippine Arena and Ka Eduardo. I want to see them both. I close my eyes and imagine how I would feel when I meet them and I feel inspired.

I hope we could really finish the film. I sorely want to be in the Philippine Arena!

CBI is Now Fully Recognized at UMTC

This is every previous CBI presidents' dream. I am so glad to be part of this.

Yesterday, July 21, 2015, Christian Brotherhood International (CBI) was fully recognized as a club at UM Tagum College and I am its 1st Club Adviser. I couldn't be happier yesterday!

I had so many things going before this fateful night and God made me smile so much. This has been one of the sweetest way to remind me that God will never really put His loyal servants down all the time. I face challenges everyday as I learn the ropes of my part-time job and keeping my full-time job at the same time. I learn everyday and learning process is not easy. I get stressed, sad and confused. I have chosen to learn so I must endure. Anyway, yesterday ended with a bang still and what a sweet surprise! Salamat po Ama!!!

Random: Busy Life

I suddenly realized that I have been juggling so much and I think I am doing not great but just scoring fairly well and I wonder where will all of these lead me. There are times that I get tired and just wanted to be alone and do nothing but I feel guilty after doing that. I always feel the great need to be doing something. Thank God for this busy life!

Diday's Paluwagan Case: A Classic Ponzi Scheme in Compostela Valley

Before and After Bernie: Ponzi Regulation or Lack Thereof?

I. Summary of article

This article is an assessment of the Ponzi Scheme and a review of its history. This will also identify the role of auditors in perpetrating these schemes and the role of the Securities and Exchange Commission to prevent schemes from occurring in the future.

Specifically, it highlights the fraud committed by Bernard Madoff, dubbed as one of the largest Ponzi Schemes in the history of financial community, after being uncovered in 2008.

Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investing scam promising high rates of return with little risk to investors. It generates returns for older investors by acquiring new investors. This scam actually yields the promised returns to earlier investors, as long as there are more new investors. These schemes usually collapse on themselves when the new investments stop.

A. History and Background of Ponzi Schemes

- Ponzi Schemes have been used long before Bernie Madoff by defrauders company such as William "520 percent" Miller and RaeJean "Rapmaster 20K Percent", which has dishonest attempt to defraud investors to fund their lavish lifestyles.

- Ponzi schemes work on the "rob-Peter-to-pay-Paul" principle, as money from new investors is used to pay off earlier investors until the whole scheme collapses. (SEC.gov).

- If each new member needs to recruit just six others to sustain the fraud, then by going a mere 11 levels deep, a Pyramid/Ponzi scheme would have to recruit a number of investors into the fraud that exceeds the entire population of the United States. This is unrealistic to say the least. By level 13, the scam would need to recruit more people than exist on the planet. Again, this is an obvious flaw in the sustainability of the Pyramid scheme. Whether recruiting new members (Pyramid) or new monies (Ponzi) the results are the same. The fraud is simply not sustainable over the long term.

- The schemes need to recruit new members and new money into the fraud and those members must then recruit new members in order to sustain the fraud.

A. Who is Charles Ponzi?

- The Ponzi scam is named after an Italian national Carlo "Charles" Ponzi, a clerk in Boston who first orchestrated such scheme in 1919.

- He started the scheme through a coupon purchased in Italy (worth six times as much in the US as a result of devaluation in Italian currency), then redeemed the coupons in the US for stamps, and sells the stamps at a discount to businesses.

- Ponzi began advertising his plan, promising to pay a 50% return in 45 days and soon was collecting millions of dollars for his scheme.

- Ponzi's scheme collapsed when investors demanded their funds after word got out. He spent the next several years in prison.

- In modern times, fraudsters have perpetrated Ponzi schemes across the globe.

B. Regulation or lack Thereof

a. The Security and Exchange Commission

- created in 1934 as a result of Congressional hearings following the stock market crash of 1929 that led to the Great Depression.

Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934

- were implemented to restore investor confidence by providing complete and honest disclosure as well as regulation regarding honest dealing.

Securities Act of 1933 (Truth in Securities Law)

- requires that investors receive financial and other information concerning securities for sale, and prohibits deceit, misrepresentations, and other fraud in the sale of securities.

Securities Exchange Act of 1934

- created the Securities and Exchange Commission, which is empowered to register, regulate and oversee the securities industry.

Investment Company Act of 1940

- oversees the organization of companies that engage in investing, reinvesting, and trading of securities.

Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002

- created the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) which requires accounting firms that audit publicly traded companies to register with the board.

b. Auditors and the Accounting Profession

Friehling & Horowitz

- a three-person accounting firm that is operated out of a 550 square foot office in Rockland County, New York (Bloomberg News, 2008).

- The SEC's complaint alleges that Friehling & Horowitz aided Madoff in his fraud by claiming that they had performed the audit in accordance with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), when they had not done so.

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)

- The national professional organization of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) in the United States

- All firms that perform audits are required by the AICPA to be peer reviewed by other audit firms (AICPA, 2009a).

- The AICPA's Code of Professional Conduct requires auditors to be "independent in the performance of professional services" (AICPA, 2009b, Rule 101, Section 101.01).

- The SEC ... alleged that Mr. Friehling and his family had investment accounts at the Madoff firm worth more than $14 million.

- All firms that perform audits are required by the AICPA to be peer reviewed by other audit firms (AICPA, 2009a).

* It was found out that the Auditors of Bernard Madoff Investment Securities (BMIS) did not perform a meaningful audit and did not perform procedures to confirm that the securities BMIS purportedly held on behalf of its customers even existed.

C. Why Didn’t the SEC Discover the Fraud Sooner?

- Madoff Investment Advisory service was unknown to the SEC for many years and Madoff had not registered with the SEC as an investment advisor.

- SEC was completely unaware of the Ponzi scheme because BMIS was a broker-dealer registered and regulated by the US SEC.

- Despite extensive contact and regulation, officials failed to uncover BMIS’s $50 billion fraud that Madoff revealed in mid-December 2008 and which now appears to stretch back over a decade (Schwartz & Katz, 2009).

- Until Madoff was busted during an investigation in 2006, when the SEC discovered that Madoff had more than 15 clients. At that time, the SEC required Madoff to register with the SEC, and closed its investigation.

D. RECOMMENDATIONS

- Require all investment advisors, broker-dealers, feeder funds, qualified purchasers, sophisticated purchasers, and accredited investors to submit the name of their audit firm, as well as the name of the firm that audits their money managers in whom they invest to a national database administered by the SEC

- Firms that audit investment advisors and broker-dealers, whether their clients are public or private, should undergo a more rigorous peer review process to ensure to a reasonable level of satisfaction that the audit firm has the ability, expertise, competence and resources to conduct audits of such complex entities.

- Investors (individuals and feeder funds) who invest more than $250,000 with an investment advisor be required to report the name of their investment advisor to the SEC.

- The SEC establish a whistle blower program. Such a program will be designed to allow individuals who believe they have discovered fraud in a hedge fund or some type of a Ponzi scheme the freedom and anonymity to report their suspicions without fear of reprisal.

E. CONCLUSION AND FUTURE RESEARCH

- Explore how the system was exploited in perpetrating, expanding, and continuing Madoff’s, and other Ponzi schemes.

- An evaluation of the SEC’s Securities Act of 1933, Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Investment Company Act of 1940 should be completed.

- Future research could consider additional regulations to be implemented to safeguard future investors considering investing in hedge funds.

- Future research should consider the SEC’s policy on how they deal with receiving tips on possible fraud.

II. Analysis/Insight

This study is just a review on the history of Ponzi Schemes, its mechanism and the loopholes that SEC should look into. Specifically, it highlights the fraud committed by Bernard Madoff, dubbed as one of the largest Ponzi Schemes in the history of financial community, after being uncovered in 2008.

One reason that Madoff was so successful was that he was a highly respected, well-established and esteemed financial expert -- his reputation was bolstered by the fact that he helped found the NASDAQ stock exchange and served a term as its chair. What's more, at the same time he was running his scheme, he was also running a legitimate business (source: Appelbaum). He earned his investors' trust because whenever they requested a withdrawal, Madoff's investment company got their money to them promptly. In addition, unlike other Ponzi schemers, he didn't tempt investors with unbelievable returns. He reported moderate returns to his investors.

III. Critique

In the Philippines, Previous Ponzi schemes have been featured on national primetime television and yet despite all that media dissemination — there are still suckers who bite into the next Ponzi scheme.

Preventing Ponzi schemes should be a government top priority. In our locality (especially in the remote areas), several cases of fraud still exist citing lack of education and awareness as one of the main reason. However, in these modern times, sophisticated investors understand the fraud, but hope to profit by joining early. Bottom-line is, greed for money is the root cause.

The authors recommendations cited above should also be practiced here in the Philippines.

B. Fraudulent Acts and other reasons for failure of “Diday’s Paluwagan”

1. Cycle will not continue if there are no new members. Hence, sustainability is based on number of recruits. A clear Ponzi Scheme.

2. Not a typical “Paluwagan” because members don’t know the other members and a member gets a bonus cash whenever he finds a new recruit to “pay-in”.

3. Safety net is insufficient.

4. Team Leaders are not properly trained.

5. DTI permit for Online Selling was used to lure people to join the “Paluwagan”.

6. Admis made members believe they will shift to coop but Admins are not experts in running one. They just gave false hopes.

A typical Diday’s Paluwagan Advertisement on Facebook saying “turn your 600 to 1,500 in one month”.

After four months, the cycle stalled and the following is now happening.

1. Founder changed her FB account and not responding promptly to customer complaints. Moved to another place (Compostela to Davao) and works in a call center.

2. Members resorted to online selling but admins are not responding fast to process pre-order shipments. Thus, dissatisfied members and customers.

3. Team Leaders/Recruiters are asked to reimburse the investments.

4. Cycle halted and there’s a conservative average of 1,500 members in each 5 groups. They are reimbursing money from Sales at an average of 4 people per week. If we will do our math, it will take at least ten years to reimburse all people from all the teams.

5. Some complains are erased in their FB page by admins without addressing those first.

6. Many members are going nuts on how to get their hard-earned money.

While the intention of other members when they recruit were in good faith, that means they didn't know that this bad event now will happen and that the structure of this "business opportunity" is not sustainable, it can't be denied that it is one's responsibility to research and dig deeper especially if the "business opportunity" is too good to be true before inviting innocent others. Now, the best thing that members will do is to file an Estafa case, which the creator of this system hugely qualifies to the elements, but may drag for years and not financially feasible for most members. Hence, if members will allow, the creator of this "business opportunity" may run free from this.

On Being Grateful and Willing to Share

I had so much going these days.
I had to deal with so much stress and I am glad I came out okay.
Yeah, there were instances that panic has reached my inner sanctum but I got people around me who made me get through all the whirlwind of tasks. Above all , I got my GOD.

Today, I had no plans to write a blog because I have been trying to check all the test papers of my students and finalize their grades. I also needed to finish so much tasks in my part-time job. Oh well, I have always been busy as bee. This week has been a little bit sort of an exemption because I just had my dental surgery. Man, it was painful and disturbing. I can't eat fast and I can't eat hot stuffs. It's been 5 days since the surgery and I can never thank enough my Mom for taking care of me. I am one blessed girl and with this, I am hugely grateful. Being grateful is what I want to share in this blog.

I have seen and heard many people complain about the life they have .They can enumerate so easily as if enumerating sad things in their life has been a skill they have mastered. It's sad to see a person doing that. Maybe because I have not walked the life they are in bout right now that's why it's difficult for me to see things from their vantage point. Maybe I am too young and have not fully tasted the bitterness of life. However, deep inside my heart, I know, however dark the situation may be, If I have been loyal to God, I will survive. I am so thankful that God gave me a grateful heart. I feel so sad whenever I see people who are not seeing the beauty in each sunrise, wildflowers and smiles of kids. I feel sad whenever I see children not going to school and being abused. I feel sad about dogs being poorly fed. Hence, I try to do my best in my job. I always try to encourage students why learning the theories and skills are necessary. I always make sure lessons are embedded with values that will best define a successful man. I do this to at least be convinced that I did something to prevent my students' future children from ending up on streets. I study my lessons at school and update myself constantly because I believe my students have relatives (and pets) who look up on them in times of need. I know that my students can help much when they also have been helped and guided with school things right now. This is how I see how important my job is and I am grateful of the skills that I have. Sure, there are those greater than me and I will forever look up on them. With what I have, I am glad to share. This makes me feel useful and this is addictive.

I am thankful of my duties in the church. I am thankful of being worthy to fulfill duties that not all is given. I have so many errors but I struggle to renew each day so that I will be worthy of Him.

I am thankful of my family. I have seen my Mom more nervous than how I was when I was having my surgery last Tuesday. I asked her to hold my hand during the entire process. I am grateful of the support I had when I went home. I am grateful of Brahiil for all his care too.

I am thankful of my friends. They always make me feel very good inside. I must have done something good to deserve their friendship. I can't remember what but I am thankful!

I am thankful of my jobs. I have been always keeping two jobs because I have always felt the need to work hard. I am happy to have seen how important it is to be industrious. I have seen my parents work hard. What a great gift! They constantly inspired me to do more. What amazes me now is that, I can already open the door of opportunities for others. I feel really really good whenever I know that I have worked hard and many will benefit out of those. What a great feeling to use my God-given skills to provide employment for others. I get very very tired but it's worth it. I feel happy. I feel warm.I feel so right.

I am thankful of Mighty who removes my stress. What a cute dog!

Ohh.. Indeed, the chance to use our gifts to provide employment is inspiring. I feel literally being a blessing! And ohh.. I didn't just pray for this feeling, I worked hard so that I could feel this too. Thank you for the chance!

My Way Back Into Love

Looking back, I was convinced that time will never heal my broken heart. I kept on singing England Dan and John Ford's songs. After what seemed to be forever, I was singing Lady Antebellum's Ready to Love Again.

I was in love in the purest and gigantic way I could imagine. Falling in love during my teenage days seemed to be like summer with Olaf in a beautiful beach in El Nido. Everything was beyond beautiful and everyday was just like eating cotton-candy in a colorful park. It was as colorful as Hobbiton and I wanted to bask in its whimsicality all day. I couldn't get enough of all its highs and there was nothing in those scenic days that warmed me of all the pains that would creep and destroy that teenage dream of love.

I have always thought that heartaches will spare me. I wonder how I got that belief.

That young love made me nostalgic all the time. I was hoping I could get my hippocampus out from the lobes of my brain and delete all memories of him in there. I wonder how I can't just control my brain when in fact it's actually "mine". How could I not be the commander-in-chief of my "own" brain? Life is unfair. I heard that several times. I just never thought it would hit me that way. The elephantine truth that he is gone was so hard to swallow because, in the first place, I never wanted to swallow it. I was in denial of what's going on and I just can't give up because I am not the type who gives up that quick on something that I am so determined to have.

I have always been a happy person. I know how it feels to be with a depressed person and hated how contagious it is. Hence, I decided to be a happy and optimistic person because I like how the positive waves from the curves of smiles and tickle of giggles resonate. I am not used to being so sad. That optimism though wasn't so helpful in my journey to moving on. I kept hoping he would be back, that life's mighty waves will summon us to be back in that picture of smile-inducing love story. Optimism, after all, wasn't helpful because I was optimistic of something I don't deserve. I kept on thinking why God, my great God, wouldn't allow me to be with the person I so love when I am convinced that I have been mostly a good daughter to Him in all my days. There were days that all I could do was write letters for the man I love but never really gave those to him. I didn't want to appear needy and I still had my self-respect intact. I have been honest to him about how I feel but he didn't seem to care. I can't blame him. I was not his priority and that was just fitting as we were just in the course of trying to figure out how deal with life's labyrinth. Then I was convinced that ours was a promising love stuck in the wrong time.

I decided to improve myself and look at what's happening in me as part of growing up. I decided to pursue my master's degree and graduate on time. I listed the things that I wanted to do. I worked hard and traveled far. I decided not to dwell in the memory of those exciting and beautiful days in MSU. He was never my boyfriend. There was never an "us". Ours was complicated but I am sure we were more than friends. I was willing to wait for the right time that we can be official but we were actually on the same page, but in different books! Moving on took me several years. Yeah, I was heart-broken that much that I lost interest with phones. It felt like inbox wouldn't be interesting anymore. There were times that I woke up in the middle of my sleep and just cried. I had visions of him in my dreams or even when I was so awake. That was insane. No matter how difficult it was to get through the day knowing he's not thinking of me, I was able to brave all the weeks, moths and years of fighting the nostalgia. It was a no easy feat but I have proven to be resilient and has even improved my self-worth.

I have prayed to God several times. I asked Him hard to make me forget the person. I thought I would forever fight with the reminiscence of my young love. I have always wondered why God didn't remove my feelings for that man when it has always been my prayer. One day, I just fully realized why. It struck me to the core and made me in awe of God's ways all the more.

I have realized that there's no need to rush love. That there's a season for everything. That I should seek to have a boyfriend only when I am strongly considering that person to become my husband in the future. That I should only have a boyfriend when I have reached my dream job and academic goals. That life being single should be enjoyed with God and to explore incredible things life has to offer. I realized that there's more to life than the nostalgia. I was so sure that the best things in my life didn't happen when I was with him. With full resolve, I became so sure that the best days of my life are ahead of me. I realized that we need to feel the pain and shouldn't force its end. It shall heal and there's no exact time frame. The more you hurry of ending the pain, the more it endures. It is therefore better to be a "friend" to "yourself " through "cheers". I survived years of being ignored by him, there's no way I can't survive another more year. And yes, I survived with flying colors. I graduated from the feeling of wanting him back. One day, I just got tired of thinking of him. One day, I just got tired of spying him on Facebook. One day, I decided to erase all pictures of him and all his messages that I have kept through the years. One day, I just suddenly realized that God is still preparing the man for me and I must equally prepare myself for that man. One day, I started to imagine summer with Olaf again. I just then started to get thrilled with the idea of meeting someone new because I got convinced that I deserve to be happy and I deserve someone else.

On new year's eve after typhoon Pablo hit the valley I call home, I met him in front of the church. It's in the church where I have so much childhood memories. Brahiil came into my life in the most perfect time I could imagine. The church really looked beautiful with stars above it and with Brahiil standing on its ground. That was beyond epic.

He accepted my scars. I suddenly wanted to utter all the cliché things that other people say when they fall in love. All the love songs were suddenly all about him and he gets more handsome everyday. My eyes tend to lend all the glitters of the stars in Andromeda galaxy whenever he fulfills his duties in the church. No one is more handsome than the man who knows that his God is his priority. I don't mind being 3rd in the list. I am more impressed of how he sets his priorities. God is really great! I am impressed of all the hardships he encountered and how he recognizes God's help. Brahiil is my idea of perfectly imperfect. I can't help but be amazed of how he swears that he loves me more.

Every time I look back, I now realize why some things never work. They never work because God has better plans. I am happy that I made it through all the pain. Pains are necessary because those will drive us closer to God. I never thought I will feel this contented and secure. I finally found my way back into love. I feel being in the Shire and enjoying the scenery of life.

Indeed, Love, just like God, moves in mysterious and mighty ways.

When Life Suddenly Makes You Feel Like A Celebrity

I have been teaching in a classroom set up for over a year now and I just suddenly miss being an online English teacher. Here's a throwback of my life in GNA/ENC.

I never thought they would choose my picture for these promotional tools. One of my student emailed me the first picture and told me that she saw this posted on a wall while she was on her way home. That's crazy, right? HAHAHA She saw this posted somewhere in Kobe, Japan and I had no knowledge of this! It felt surreal and it's a very happy thing! The second photo is the one I saw in my previous company's official Facebook page. I just love how life pauses for a while and make me feel like a celebrity.

Why I Don't Trust Diday's Paluwagan

Friends, I don't want to join Diday's Paluwagan because I don't understand what it is. I don't understand why money could grow that quick (it could offer better returns than banks or bonds!) with the member "just waiting". I may appear silly to those who have received "proofs" but please bear with me, this is how I honestly see it. How many of the members perfectly understood the system? I'm sure there are many like me who are confused of the entire system but are excited of the at the same time of Diday's Paluwagan promises. It's common to get excited when we earn money in easy way that we end up NOT carefully educating ourselves what the system really is and if ever it is even SUSTAINABLE. It's never a hassle to learn pals, it's never a hassle to be watchful of your hard-earned money-- it's just but rightful.

"under the “paluwagan” system, people form a group agree to contribute a certain amount on a definite date. The pooled funds will be given to a certain member on an agreed date, normally on a monthly basis, until all the members have received their share."Banko Sental ng Pilipinas Deputy Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr. added that, “A paluwagan is an informal savings scheme of people who know each other,” he said.Normally, those who put their money in paluwagan are neighbors and co-workers who form a group to pool funds.Unlike in banks or cooperatives, money saved through the “paluwagan” system does not earn interest. "

Please take note that in a Paluwagan, according to the governor of Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (1) members know each other and (2) money saved through paluwagan system doesn't earn interest. These two things are clearly absent in Diday's paluwagan. If these definition are absent, it is not therefore a Paluwagan. I hope you can understand why I don't trust this system. The name itself doesn't fall to the very definition of paluwagan. I don't think this creates a very good brand positioning. As an MBA graduate, I have learned that you trust the product when the brand has been carefully positioned in the mind of consumers. In this case, the brand, foremost, is misleading.

In order to be so willing to join, I want to be enlightened by the following:
1. What would happen to my 600 why it could grow to 1, 500 in one month?
2. Where are the "extra-money" (money from those wala a nag graduate) going? Is it being invested that's why it could offer high returns?(I hope it is!) If it is invested, I'd like to know in what.
3. Why do I need to recruit? Is it because if there will be stagnant number of members, this Paluwagan can't keep it's promise of exchanging your 600 with 1.500 IN A MONTH?
4. Some members say this will eventually become a COOP. Pals, there are many kinds of coop and please name who can exchange you 600 with 1,500 in a month. Even Tagum Coop could never promise this. What kind of coop are you planning to have? What will happen to the members of this Paluwagan during the transition (from Diday's Paluwagan to COOP)? Will they receive the money due to them? especially those last in the list? How? The 50 pesos money being deducted wont suffice. Please do your math.
5. There is no clear organizational structure and you don't even know those who hold the money that much. Are you sure they are getting the necessary training to be functional? Are they accredited? With the huge money they have in their hands, you should feel secured with the knowledge that these people are trained. Praise God, should there be one who is an honest CPA. Did you even bother to check?
6. Is there any internal auditor? How about an external auditor? You should feel scared if there's none. I think you can imagine how big is the money rotating and inherently know the need to have auditors.
7. Who do you think you can run to should this entire system fail? According to Inquirer, http://business.inquirer.net/…/Is-investing-in-paluwagan-sa…, the most one can do is to file estafa charges, which may drag over time and cost a lot, with no guarantee that you will get your money back.
8. It also doesn't mean that if you have a DTI permit you can run a paluwagan/monoline already. You need additional certificates from government agencies. Big time fraud exposed on TV had their DTI permits to lure more people. Just so you know! And if it's a partnership, you need to be with SEC and not just DTI.

Please don't get me wrong in posting this. I hope I won't be killed because of posting this! HAHAHA! It's just that I do careful research before jumping into something which appears to be so-good-to-be-true to me. If my questions are answered, I'd be very happy.

One more thing, if the system is becoming so late in "paying out", that's a red flag!

I know many posted about their "proofs" already but have you ever thought how this system could be sustainable? Will this be sustainable if ever you stop recruiting? If this system could only go on with recruiting more, do you know how people in banking world calls that? Do your research. Teaching and Platform 9 3/4

Things have been clouding up my mind lately. I have been exhausted but not in vain. Life showed me that every cloud has a silver lining. It made my soul formidable. Praise God! I may be at my wit's end sometimes but I consider this journey,with all my heart, beautiful.

It's Teachers' Day tomorrow and I would like to write the wonderful things of being a teacher.

First, I have always felt that teaching is my soulmate. I am a big fan of education and those who champion it. I can't imagine doing anything at this point of my life other than enriching another soul. Heaven on earth is when I see my students learning. I can imagine why Malala was willing to face the dangers of getting education in Pakistan and even more willing to push it further for the benefit of legions who believe in her cause. I feel grateful everytime I come to think of this, my way to school was never despoiled by issues which plague countries like Pakistan. In my country, even rebels would want their kids to develop perspicacity through books. I feel quite disappointed that many students in my place don't seem to appreciate the liberty they enjoy. People living in Taliban-infested areas prayed all their lives and countless even offered their very lives for the right to be educated - a great blessing that many students are turning a blind eye. I salute all the Filipino people who made education possible in my beloved country.

Second, teaching makes me feel able able and human. It humbles me every time I learn something new. It excites me to the core and the thought that I could share it to others usually uplifts my spirit. I find this severely addictive. I know exactly why this is addictive. I remember what Mr. Lloyd Luna said " Self-improvement is a very important parcel of happiness". Hence, it's our natural tendency to seek happiness that drives us to learn and improve ourselves. In management, high turnover is usually because workers are no longer happy with the office climate due to lack of continuous training. We are not happy when we are not learning anything new. This is so human and it makes you a better human the moment you share knowledge.

Third, teaching makes me feel that the platform 9 3/4 is real.Teaching became my portal in enriching my imagination and creativity . Just like platform 9 3/4, this profession pushes me to enter a world full of sweet surprises I never thought would be possible. It allowed me to meet plenty amazing people and enjoy new things. The everyday journey in this profession feels like walking into Diagon Alley for the first time - it's magical. It's difficult to get through but it's memorable and sweet. Just like in the magical world of Harry, things could go nasty in my daily attempt to cast knowledge but it's nothing but part of a wonderful journey. The different shades of emotions that I could feel make my world colorful.

Lastly, it keeps me away from the pangs rampant in this world. The Thank Yous from my students are my happy pill. I can still remember what they did last Friday. Indeed, when you smile at the world, it will smile back.

They were all singing when they entered! How sweet is that?

The Class President , Drake. He fooled me and made me believe that the strange arrangement of of the chairs that day was because of the group activity that the group in-charge will facilitate. You got me on that Drake!

I love their pure hearts! Some cried while saying their thanks to me. That was monumental.

I thought the surprise was over but look at my boys! They entered the room while singing "Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat" each with roses! How cute and perfectly sweet!

Thank you to my 11-12 Sales Management Class and thank you to Flor Rogador for the flowers! You made me VERY happy!

Harry and Malala

This moment is one of those moments when I just want to scribble the thoughts that are inside of me and forget that I am actually busy. I wish I am Rita Skeeter now so that I can have that magical quill. My hands are tired but I want to blog. It’s just too bad that I can’t use any forms of magic in this muggle world. I don’t want to receive a howling letter from the Ministry of Magic.

I am still musing about the immensely timely source of relief that J.K. Rowling gifted me. That article she posted in pottermore made me dreamy again-Harry with another intriguing scar. I want to go to Osaka and camp in USJ. I want to eat chocolate frogs. I want to be lost in Hogsmeade.

Why do I usually think about Potter and his world these days? It’s because I miss reading about it. I have grown busy with my new job in the University. I am enjoying it to bits. I just miss having the luxury of reading books of my choice and still get paid. I miss reading Harry Potter with Makiko and Tomei. Oh … how I wish to be one of those people thronging USJ Osaka.

I miss my Japanese students.

I miss my previous job. I can easily go back as a part-time teacher but my time now won’t give me the liberty to be back.

I guess I really have to experience this sort of feeling in my lifetime. Hence, I must remain cheerful and accept the things I can’t change as of the moment without losing hope that one day, I can do it again.

Reading has always been my escape to stress and writing seals the happiness within. I love teaching but I also love other things. I might have lost the equilibrium that’s why this feeling of longing to those buoyed in unprecedented levels. I don’t really care if others think that what I do is boring. I know people who could share the same wavelength as mine and their biographies depict the awesomeness embed in reading, writing and sharing. I am reminded of Malala’s United Nations speech which goes, “Let us pick up our books and our pens, they are the most powerful weapons.” I couldn’t agree more.

I have resolved to read I am Malala. I should read to balance my life.

I should take more pictures so that I could have many stories to share to my online students.

I have accepted that God wants me to experience other things now so that when I’ll teach them, I can have lots to share.

The best thing to do is savor the uniqueness clamped in each spectrum. Indeed, it’s a wonderful and colorful life.

Summer Smear!

Summer vacation for most students ceased already but mine feels like the contrary. I'm still hyping of what will happen for my late summer adventure with my brother next week. I'm beyond thrilled to make exciting adventures and beautiful memories with my one and only handsome brother! Thinking about the underground river, the bewithcing white sand beaches, the seductive water, the enchanting greenery and the gales of laughter that we will surely have makes me feel floating in frenzy. I just love my brother so much that I decided to give him not material gifts but offer him memories with me. He will have his plane ride, his first trip to Visayas and his first trip to Luzon with his beautiful sister!HAHAHAH We will also have our first train ride together! Hahaha! My first ride was when I was a high school student during the National Science Fair. That was year of the Nokia 3310 pa! I am just so excited to be with him during these moments! Thank you Lord God for the blessings! I never thought I can afford this!

Here are the few things that happened this summer.

1. My brother graduated! Finished his degree in Agriculture major in Plant Pathology!

I never thought he could be that clever! Haha love you Dong!

2. Summer in the University.

My summer class made me feel angry and tired but of course happy and thrilled. My students were a headache but I think it's really like that sometimes (unta!lol) . I just realized that "You get what you tolerate". Hence, my rules for the next school year will be more firm (Promise!). I am not saying that I didn't enjoy it, I learned a lot! I claim that all of these troubles, fun and ka ek kan will make a better teacher each term! So, help me God!

I made my students use of the Speech Lab. We had simple call center agent training. Haha! I tried to train them how to cater calls for orders and how to handle callers from hell. This is part of our Service Marketing subject. Dria najud ang Patience is a Virtue! Pictures will follow! I haven't transferred them here in my PC.

I also made my Marketing 1 students talk to the CEO of Flex Thaiyo Co. ltd. via Skype and made them do their product launching.

My advertising students were very busy too. I made them so busy. It was fun to see them doing their best. They deserved the grades I gave them! I made them make a magazine cover with them as the muse, made them do radio ads, perform TV commercials and make a promotional video for Marketing Management.

Highlights of My First Sem as an Associate Professor

I can't imagine being anything else other than being a Teacher at this point of my life.

I planned, dreammed and talked about wanting to be here ad nauseam.

I was sleep-deprived because of work, school and church things but it all paid off.

I am here and I can start dreaming of greater things!

Sitting here and summoning the vivid visions of how I was years ago ignites the vehement feeling inside - the feeling of happiness. satisfaction and thankfulness.

I remember the commencement speech of Steve Jobs at Stanford years ago ( I SEVERELY like watching commencement speeches of popular people in popular Unis). He said someone has to believe that the dots (experiences) you have now will connect in the future. His exact line was

"Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."

Looking backwards, I can now answer the thundering multifold of "Whys" I had back then.

Those dots (experiences) seemed to be meaningless, directionless and hugely vague but not anymore.

I feel not lost anymore.

Drums should roll because of these realizations!

I always had passion in teaching.

Helping another soul learn is something not everyone can do.

It makes my heart twang with happiness when students would tell me that I inspired them and that the class was helpful in shaping their dreams and their direction.

I remember I had to study Braille because I volunteered as a tutor for a blind college student.

It was moving beyond words.

My rookie months in the University is full of trial-and-error.

There were some strategies that didn't work and there were some fireworks-worthy activities (LOL).

The following are the 5 most unforgettable moments in my first semester at University of Mindanao.

1. I danced and played volleyball.

I danced. I remember being the last one to be picked during our P.E. 2 class as a group member.

Nobody seemed to want me in their groups because I have two left feet and I really dance not just like a chicken but a drugged chicken to be exact. It made me happy that I was able to dance quite away from that drugged-chicken description last April 2.

I played Volleyball. I know Quidditch far better than Volleyball. I can tell you how Quidditch started and I can tell you a lot about Victor Krum.Volleyball? I only know some girls ( from Ateneo) because my friends in Facebook flood my newsfeed with their faces. Anyway, as clumsy as I am, I am convinced I can never ace actual Quidditch (lol..could I even have an actual Quidditch? ). With life being like a kaleidoscope, I played Volleyball and I wasn't a pain in the eye, I guess. Hurray for that!

2. I made my students talk to a Japanese CEO who has a Company in Thailand via Skype at AVR2.

It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOOOOOOLLL!!! I made my students very excited and the CEO was thrilled too! win-win! The CEO requested that he wanted to see my students and I could never say No!

3. My Product Management Subject's Prototype Fair.

I know I made them tired but they have to do all of it. The Promotional Tools, the Product, the Tables and sharpen their product knowledge. They told me that it was one of their most unforgettable activities as a Marketing student. Sublime happiness that is!

4. I got angry. They Apologized. We're happy again.

My patience barometer was tested and I am glad that I had my shell of sanity intact! I think this is really part of being a Teacher. I am enjoying each shade of the spectrum! I love my BBs biskan pag mga pasaway!

5. We had our Product Launching last term and I made the students both nervous and happy!

I think I should add here some of the things that my students wrote for me. They are like certificates worthy to be hung in Ravenclaw common room! LOL.

Siya pod nag tell sa amo about anang Silicon Valley, New york times na page, bloomberg, etc. As a student we don't feel inconvenience, nagklase mi na permi katawa murag walay days na dili happy among klase. So much Fun Superb.

In Product Management Class, na feel namo kung unsay tinuod na marketer jud, we create, we innovate, and we eat. HAHAHA XD with matching tarpaulin and defense pajud. Happy kaayo to na days. and sa Tshirt pod, HAHAHA XD mura walay teacher kay si maam pod murag student.

Sa karun na 4th year naman jud mi.. (Yeheey) dako jud mi ug pasalamat sa imo that we are not ignorant anymore as a marketer. We changed a lot since ikaw amo na prof. hehehe.. (Pls. Don't Cry HAHAHA XD)

And then I realized, there are only two kinds of teacher that has the power to move me,-one who is intellectually blessed and the other is superbly and genuinely nice to students. Guess what! I have found the 2 in 1 in you!

Ma'am bright jud kaayu ka m'am ai, in any field of learning, you are good at language, business matters, interpersonal communication, culture, earth science and even geography!!!! I remember that day when u talked about locations of some states of US, summer and winter solstice, not to mention the current events (na wa jud namu nasakpan sa TV Patrol), as in.. you just Wowed us every single time. I wan't to be like you when I grow up. hahahahaha (sep sep) Tinuod bitaw ni ma'am.Finally, I, we, wanna thank you for being that kind of teacher that doesn't just sit and listen , read books without explaining,state the obvious, wait for the bell, sign, then leave ( I've known a few,secreyto lang para bibo). You are doing just the total opposite and more!! And I personally commend you for that. You're an icon to me now, next to Taylor swift and Rihanna. hehehehe

My First Set of Offline Students

I knew it would be fun and how wrong I was. This is something more than fun! Teaching University stundents is awesome beyond words! Alas, after ages of sitting in front of my computer teaching ESL , I finally got my first set of offline students! My shell of sanity went ecstatic when I was told I got hired!

Now, more than ever, I am convinced that Teaching is really FUN!

How?

We had "Paint Me A Picture" activity.

We also had some juicy debates.

We had some Product Launching.

And had our party, of course!

I can't wait for more fun-filled activities!

Glad To Be Back

I have been with ENC/GNA for over three years and saying that I enjoy this job is an understatement.

I just don’t enjoy this, I love this!
I could still remember how scared I was when I had my first lesson and I am so thankful to have loyal students who continued to take my lessons since then.
What I love about working with ENC/GNA is that I can choose my time.

This job allowed me to finish graduate school and I can never thank my manager enough for being so good to me.
I also love that my workmates are smart, fun-loving and optimistic.

Most of the teachers and staffs share the same passion for traveling, reading and sharing blessings.

I feel blessed that I have students who appreciated my lessons through their sincere thanks and they even made me one of the top teachers last year. Their smiles and appreciations are so addictive that I can’t stop but long for more. Their thanks sent me to Nirvana several times.
These are the reasons why even after finishing graduate school and now working in a University, I am back as a part-time home-based ENC/GNA teacher. I am thrilled beyond words!
I love being part of this family!

My Last Day as an Office-based ENC/GNA Teacher

This is my greatest prayer. I hope I was able to inspire students in learning more and I hope I was able to deliver the things expected from me.

I really enjoy teaching ESL and I love it to bits! Today is my last day here in the office and I feel happy of their cheers for my new job. This company has been really very nice to me. My co-workers are all smart and fun-loving. I also like that we always repel negative thoughts.

I will be back in GNA next month as a home-based teacher. I shouldn't miss the better salary! I am happy they increased it!Yehey!!!

Mulling About My Job

I have been working here for over three years now and what is really making me stay longer is my fondness to my students. I know that other schools are just a stone's throw away and I am positive that I can easily land a job in another company but the mere thought of not being able to see my students from GNA/ENC again is just depressing beyond words. I am sure I have a serious case of separation anxiety. ;b

I could still remember how I was interviewed and how equally nervous I was when I first officially had my lessons. I don't think there were just butterflies in my stomach, I think there were dinosaurs or something notorious than them waging war inside. Haha! I think I got bowel movement troubles because of that. Looking back, I am sure I matured. I know I became better than my old self and I think this is the best way how a person should compare himself- comparing your present self with the previous" you".

I am also very happy that I really received very good training here.

I also like that this job is beautifully sharpening my command in English. I also love that I get to read a lot. It's like getting paid while reading!

The pay isn't as sky-high as Lada Gaga's heels but it's somehow comfortable.
Of course, I want a better paying job and I am sure that I might transfer soon but one thing will remain constant- I will still work even as a part-time GNA teacher. In that case, it's not 100% goodbye after all!
The major drawback here is just the pay but it's not really very very low. It's just that I have greater needs.

This job made me finish graduate school. It made me afford tuition fees and field trips. Hence, I am really really very thankful of this job.

I'll keep moving forward!

I have been thinking about how I should manipulate my thoughts to make my world more vibrant. I've been bombarded with tons of confusing things but one thing will ever remain constant - I am strong because my God is the strongest and He will never forsake me.

I've been severely tired but I am sure that I am not doing things in vain. I am sure that my God is seeing how much I am pulling out the best in me in order to strike balance in my life. I would never forsake my divine duties to Him. This mortal frame I have might get so tired but nothing is more comforting than in knowing that what you are doing is in accordance with God's sacred commands.

I got so tired preparing for this activity but I am sure it's worth it all!

Yeah, things sometimes appear deceptively difficult but I know I am born victorious. My faith in Him will never go spiraling into meltdowns.

I appreciate the beautiful things around me. I am happy about my duties in the church, family, friends and my job.
