Dr. K. Govindaraju, a stalwart in community development, has woven a remarkable tapestry of social work and empowerment through SEVAI. Born on September 25, 1952, in Melapatty, a quaint village in Trichirapalli District, Dr.K. Govindaraju's early life was a testament to resilience. His parents, Mr. B. Krishna Reddiar and Mrs. Polammal, instilled in him the value of education, and he cycled 11 kms to high school in Kulitalai, later braving 45 kms to Trichy for Pre-University studies, fueled by determination and part-time tuition work.

*A Legacy of Learning*

Dr. Govindaraju's academic pursuits led him to National College, Trichy, where he graduated in Mathematics and Bachelor Degree in Education in Siddhartha College of Education, Tumkur.

He went on to earn postgraduate degrees in Science, Management, Education, History, and Journalism, and a PhD in Management, through evening Colleges,/Distance Education mode.

His association with Prof M.A. Windey, a Belgian social activist, was a turning point, inspiring him to join Village Reconstruction Organisation in 1975 and later founding SEVAI in 1984.

Dr.K.Govindaraju visited Egypt, Denmark, Netherlands, UK, Germany, France, Belgium and neighborhood countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal for studies and attending workshops and congresses.

SEVAI, under Dr.K. Govindaraju's visionary leadership, has been a driving force for community empowerment, focusing on children and women's empowerment, quality education, livelihood enhancement, environmental conservation, and sustainable development. The organization has constructed over 5000 strong and solid homes for homeless and natural calamities-affected populations.

AEM France has stood by SEVAI for over three decades, providing crucial support for children-centered projects. Their contribution, constituting 10% of SEVAI's annual budget, has been instrumental in catalyzing development initiatives since 1984. *Personal Milestones and Family*

Dr. Govindaraju's personal life is a testament to balance and harmony. His wife, Padmini, a government school principal, and he shared a life of purpose, with their son, Sathish Kumar, now married with two sons, involved in organic farming and enterprise management. Padmini's passing in 2025 left a void, but her pension continues to support the family.

*Awards and Recognition*

Dr. Govindaraju's tireless efforts have earned him numerous accolades, including the Outstanding Organisation Award presented by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamilnadu on August 15, 2025, and several awards from CNRI, blessed by the Hon'ble President of India in 2008.

Dr. Govindaraju emphasizes the need for professional social workers to address emerging challenges, advocating for increased support from the Government of India and Indian companies through CSR funds. He urges professionals to join existing NGOs, fostering collaborative impact .

He served as President of Tamilnadu Board of Continuing Education and State Resource Centre, Tamilnadu and Puducherry. He also served as Environment Expert Committee Member of Government of India, Ministry of Environment and Forest for clearing Infrastructure and miscellaneous projects of Government of India.
