We here at Urban Soul Online, were elated when we heard the news that one of our favorite songstresses is marking her return back to the music scene. Needless to say that the music would is missing that heart felt music that she always seems to conjure up. After Maxwell returned to the music scene after an eight year hiatus, Sade surprises us all and makes her mark back on the music scene with her new LP "Soldier of Love," which is set to be released on Feb. 8, 2010!

Melanie Fiona kills it in her latest video for her single, "It Kills Me." I have to say I'm really feelin this songstress. Her voice is the truth, and she sings with such ease. I mean she's better than half of these females out there that are getting a whole lot of promotion. Make sure you all support real R&B/Soul when her debut album, "The Bridge" drops over here in the states on Nov. 3rd!

There's enough eye-candy in this new action packed thriller for everyone! The movie stars the fine brown sugar delight that is Idris Elba, and R&B-Pop sensation, Chris Brown, who has seen his share of troubles this past year. The movie hits theatres on Feb. 10th, 2010! Check out the trailer to the sizzing hot movie, "Takers" above. I must say this looks like a must see!

Synopsis: 'Takers,' directed by John Luessenhop, revolves around a notorious group of criminals (Idris Elba, Paul Walker, T.I., Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen and Michael Ealy) who continue to baffle police by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies. They are in and out like clockwork, leaving no evidence behind and laying low in between heists. "Black Summer's Night Album Review"!

I was first introduced to Soul-Singer, Maxwell, back in 1996 with his debut album, "Urban Hang Suite." I have been a fan of this man's music, from that point on. Each one of his albums in my opinion are classics. On each one of his tracks he puts his soul on display. He has been penned our generations Marvin Gaye or Al Green. So, when I heard the news that he would be releasing an album I was elated because I needed another Maxwell album to add to my collection. So, when I got my copy of the album, I was anxious to see just what type of growth Maxwell underwent during that long 8-year absence from the music scene. (which had been void without him)
To be completely honest, this album pals in comparison to his previous three efforts. There is a lack of that polished product that we have become used to. At times, the album even sounds a bit rushed and incomplete. It is evident, that this album is a more stripped down, no frills sound that we have been accustomed to from the R&B crooner. The two standout tracks on the album are "Bad Habits and Stop the World."

BET Awards Review!

I have to say that the BET Awards could have been better, much better! First off, I feel like they could have done a better job with honoring Michael Jackson. They could have had Chris Brown giving a tribute to Michael. I would have had Chris Brown open the show performing, "Thriller" and then have the original thriller video showing in the background. I also feel like Jamie Foxx performed too many times,(I mean it was basically the Jamie Foxx Show) they should have given some more performers the opportunity to perform on the stage. I mean they could have had artists like Jazmine Sullivan, Ciara (actually do a dance routine) Chrisette Michelle, Usher, and Ginuwine. The awards just felt like it was rushed, then again they did have to change a lot of the show, due to the Michael Jackson tribute. Also, why in the hell didn't Beyonce perform a Michael Jackson song as a tribute. I mean, she is the biggest star in the world, the second-coming to Michael so she def should have performed a Michael Jackson song.
I also felt like there wasn't enough awards being given out. In my opinion I feel like this was the worst BET Awards! Next year, they need to come a lot harder, and give more people the opportunity to perform on that stage. I mean, if Drake can perform without even having a CD out,(not hating on him) then acts like Jazmine Sullivan, LeToya, Ginuwine can perform on the main stage. Just a thought.

I'm loving this interview. Soul-singer, Amerie talks about everything from frustration, and how she feels that you must maintain a positive mindset, to the Beyonce comparisons (It seems that almost every female singer is asked about Beyonce in an interview), to a collaboration with Trey Songz and the social media in this day and age.
Make sure you go and support our girl Amerie's fourth studio album entitled, "In Love and War," when it hits shelves on September 8th! In the mean time you can hear her single, "Why R U", which is getting rave reviews and is even being compared to Mary J. Blidge's, "What's the 411".

"'Why R U?' is about being in a relationship and hating that you’re so attached to this person,” explains Amerie. “A lot of the songs on this album deal with wanting to be done with a relationship but you’re just not really ready to leave, so you hang around and wait for a person to change. I really wanted the lyrical content to be real conversation. I didn’t want anything to be sugar-coated.”

I must say it's refreshing to see Kelly Rowland doing her thing, especially with all of the transitions and drama she's been through this past year. If you haven't heard about it then you've probably been living under a rock. With all the Matthew Knowles and Columbia drama behind her, it seems as though she is prepared to take her career in a new and higher direction. Congrats to her. I must say that she is a sweetheart to, very personable.(A little somebody should take notes) In the interview, she talks about looking up to Whitney Houston as a little girl, her new single, "When Loves Takes Over," and Michelle. Over the past few weeks I'm sure you've heard rumors regarding Matthew Knowles making threats to BET by saying that if LeToya Luckett performs on the stage at the BET Awards then
Beyonce won't. It has also been some speculation floating around the net that for years now Matthew Knowles has been trying to sabotage LeToya's career. Well now we have an exclusive interview where LeToya opened up about the rumors in a new interview after being questioned directly about the drama.

Check out the trailer for "The Preacher's Kid", starring none other than breakout R&B starlet, LeToya Luckett. I must say that we here at Urban Soul are really feeling the trailer, and are anticipating the movies release in theatres this fall. The movie centers around a twenty-something young woman that joins a traveling gospel show. Beyonce Debuts Music Video!

The video for Beyonce's umtenth single, "Ego" premiered a few minutes ago on her official website. While I'm not a big fan of the song, I have to say, the video doesn't do it for me either. These black and white, sub-par videos are killing me, and their not doing her songs any justice. Here's what Beyonce had to say about the concept of the video,

“My goal for the video is simplicity. In Single Ladies, I saw this old tape of Bob Fosse’s wife, and I used that as inspiration. I thought in this world, with all the technology and everything that’s going on, to strip everything down—great idea. So I kind of did the same thing, but glossy and black, for Ego.”

The music video was co-directed by Beyonce and her longtime choreographer, Frank Gatson Jr. and the dance moves were created by Sheryl-Murakami.
