Friday: Afternoon Delight

Ok....so it's a few days overdue...but I was feeling a bit under the weather the last couple of days.

Mr. B is at man night so I got to have a delightful afternoon all by myself! Don't get me wrong I love to hang out with him, but sometimes a girl just needs some girly alone time.

Today I got to try on makeup at the mac counter (i got a couple of things but I can't get them until wed....i pre-shopped), went to get my nails done (toes are minty green and hands are red...though you can't really appreciate them in these pics).......

and now.....since I didn't have to make any kind of dinner.... I decided to get some take out and I'm having this delicious thai feast while watching SATC. ULTIMATE girly afternoon right?

I absolutely LOVE thai tea.....Nick hates it and thinks I'm crazy because he says it tastes like cigarette butts. I wonder if I can purchase the stuff to make it at home. I really really love it. Sometimes I actually crave it!
BTW....I can't wait til we move to NYC and I can order take out and just wait for it in the comfort of my own home! I also won't have to wait 30 min for it.

Today is my mother's birthday! Feliz Cumpleaños MA!!! We celebrated yesterday by going down for dinner (which her friend invited her to and we just kind of invited ourselves....) and ended up having a lovely meal and surprise run-in with some of our really good friends.

Our adventure started with us (N, my dad, my brother and myself) walking across the border and my mom picked us up. We went to dinner with close family friends to Chans and it was pretty delicious.

Then, Maricarmen (my mom's friend) mentioned that her daughters had decorated her house for her grand-daughter's quinceañera (15th bday party) and insisted that we come see. So we ended our night crashing a quinceañera and hanging out for a little bit with our good friends Fer and her husband.

We got dropped off at the border, walked back across and drove back up here getting us home around midnight....all in all quite a fun night. (~extra treat ~ I ended up bringing some mexican candy from the party home with me....yay for me!!) Happy Birthday Mama Elisheva.....Te queremos mucho!!!

We didn't go to disneyland we went wine tasting with our dear friends Brandon & Emily and that was fine by me. We had a blast! Brandon had wine tasting tickets to South Coast Winery (costa mesa) so it was free!!

Oh also...here's the picture of my newly painted white wall....it makes our living room look a lot bigger. I like it.

A few weeks ago I purchased one of Martha Stewart's amazing books : Encyclopedia of Sewing and Fabric Crafts. I already have the Encyclopedia of Crafts and I love it so after debating for a couple of months I decided I needed the sewing one as well; and um..duh! I love it too!

I found a super fun and "simple" pin cushion on there using a ball jar. I have loads of ball/kerr jars from my wedding and also from other projects so when I started thinking of my mother in law's birthday present naturally this project was the answer. I made two one for her and one for my mom's friend Magali. They both love sewing and this is a fun/practical way of carrying your tools.

I wrote "simple" because it looks and seems simple, but when trying to make them I realized that it's not really simple. It's kind of hard to push the cardboard out of the way so the jar will actually close. Also when you work with a hot glue gun...it kind of sucks because it dries fast so you don't really have enough time to do everything. Anyway....I did finish both of them and they turned out pretty darn cute! See for yourselves.....(I forgot to take a pic of the black & white finished so I just have the green one)

Have yourselves a lovely wednesday afternoon....I know I will...I'm going to disneyland!

For such a "laid back" weekend....it was quite full of things to do and places to be....

Friday was my dad's birthday so we drove down to SD and it took us 3 hours because there was CRAZY TRAFFIC!! We had a lovely dinner at Il Fornaio in Coronado and idiot that I am I didn't take any pictures. I'm super bummed. I really used to be much better at taking photos of everything....I MUST get back into that!

I kind of made up on Saturday by using both my phone and my Instax camera at Brooke's first birthday party. My friend Amanda and her mom totally outdid themselves with a "Madeline" theme party. It was so so cute; and miss Brooke Bella looked adorable in her red tutu and navy blue high tops! My mom came up for the party so it was nice to spend a little bit of time with her.

........While I was at the kiddie party Mr. B was filming a traditional Greek wedding in Santa Barbara which according to his stories was a super fun wedding and we might have some new friends for when we move to NYC. Yes...we're seriously, seriously thinking about this move now. He's doing most of the researching and our parents really aren't super ecstatic, but we've been praying about it since we got married and this is the one city that has remained on our list. México (our other option) will be put on the back burner for now since we've decided it's a little mellow for our life right now and we want to experience a fun city at least for a little bit.

Last week I decided it was finally time to paint my red walls back to the original white that the rest of the apartment has. I didn't take any before pics but they were the color of the bar stool I posted. Yes. very bright. It's been more than 2 years since they've been red and I'm over them so I started yesterday with the primer (I'm hoping to get the actual paint from my apt. manager so I don't have to buy it). Here's the first coat....you can still see the red in the background.

Gem Faire

This weekend the OC fair grounds hosted Gem Faire (a HUGE bead show)!! Since I have a couple of orders I need to work on I decided to go on opening day....also I had a coupon to get in for free! yay!

I love going because there are sparkles and beads as far as the eye can see and if you know me you know I love sparkles. love. love! Also there's awesome people watching. I didn't take any pics of the fun outfits, but I did find something I had to get a snapshot of...it was my favorite of the afternoon......

Isn't he the cutest!! He was HUGE!

I managed to find some lovely amethyst the same shade of purple one of my orders needs plus a few other fun things to play with.

......On other exciting news, I used my meat grinder for the first time ever. It was pretty DEES-COS-TING!!! But it turned out to make some quite delicious blue cheese-bacon burgers! yum!

Caricature Us

A few weeks ago we went to a wedding industry BBQ hoe down. We had some yummy food, met some lovely people and got a caricature of us done. We requested that he draw us both holding teacup pigs. Why?? We've been obsessed with these tiny little creatures and really wanted one.....until we realized that they still get pretty big (medium dog size) and it wouldn't be the greatest idea to have a 40 lb. hoofed animal running around in a small apartment. So we figured at least we'd get them in print. We still want one, but we're waiting until we get a big house with a huge yard for them to hang out in.

Doesn't really look anything like us. I told Mr. B that it looks more like Brangelina dont you think? But we're happy with it....our cartoon characters aren't really supposed to look like us. And we love our pigs!

I LOVE my juicer! Today's menu was:

*4 beets
*4 oranges
*1 cucumber
*3 really small tomatoes
*1 peach

oh it was soo soo delicious!!

I also made a delicious & simple lunch for us: quesadillas (ham) with beans (homemade of course) and also homemade salsa. I did get fancy and make the tortillas myself....it's a lot easier than it sounds. REALLY! I just buy the masa already made from the little mexican market, whip out my tortilla maker tool thingy (to flatten them) and cook them for a bit and they're done! It seriously took me longer to make the juice only because I have to wash everything right away. Here's some pics.....

Yesterday when I came downstairs, I found myself staring at my counter. Why you ask? Well (please see below)....wouldn't you?? And it was even better because it was nicely wrapped in a plastic grocery bag from "La Ley" (grocery store in TJ). I was really confused because: 1. it wasn't there last night when we went to sleep; 2. Neither of us likes tequila; 3. I've never seen this brand (but it looks like another well known one...so I'm guessing it's a knock off!)

So I called my husband and this is how it went......

Me: Sooooo......Why is there tequila on the counter?

N: (laughing) oh it's a wedding gift from Jose!

Me: ?!?! huh?? (side note~ we've been married 1 1/2 years)

N: yeah...you know, from work!

Me: when did he give it to you?

N: oh i don't know....before we got married....

yep. it's been at work since then and he just decided to bring it home on thursday.

It makes my heart happy. Every issue makes me want to make everything in it and then I never do....but a girl can dream right?

I can't believe I actually chopped off my hair!!! It's been about 12 years since the last time I made such a drastic change (yes i'm pretty boring, when it comes to hair), but I must admit I love it! And my hubs thinks it's HOT! and of course that helps....

I will be donating my hair to locks of love so that made me feel better about cutting it off as well.

Well...lots of things have happened in the last few weeks.....

First I finally started going to the gym again. My mother and brother will be happy to know this since they keep calling me chubs. I've been going to classes because I feel more motivated than when I go and just get on the machines. I've discovered a new class that I absolutely love....ZUMBA!! It's basically an hour of fun dancing and you sweat like crazy!

We got a great surprise "congratulations on your wedding" card from some of Nick's family and it had a macy's gift card inside....so we went to get something, which led us to discover that we had slightly over $200 more on our leftover card than I thought. AWESOME!! so we purchased a juicer and now I'm making fresh juice almost every day!
I also got a meat grinder attachment for my mixer and I can't WAIT to make my own ground meat for delicious bacon-blue-cheese-burgers!

We went with friends to see Dinner for Schmucks monday night and I really really really liked Julie's hair! So much so that I decided to cut it like hers. Coincidentally I have a hair appointment later today so it worked out that I had to wait 2 weeks for it!

Advanced class

Well...I took the advanced jewelry class in the spring and it was a huge FAIL! Don't get me wrong I got a B...but all we did was enameling and frankly I don't care for it. I love how it looks, but I don't care to create it. It's a hard process and I'm a VERY clumsy person so that led to lots of disasters.

I'll share some pics of my projects anyways....

1. Self portrait (which I'm horrible at to begin with...combined with melted glass = bad grade in class!) - all copper. Nick loved it though and I kinda did too!

2. Roccoco inspired enamel ring - brass, copper wire (for cloisonné).

3. Theme: Twins. Process : casting with cuttle fish bones!! One of the pieces had to be cast and the other one could be either cast or fabricated. I chose 2 locks one on the longer chain was cast.
Lock necklace - sterling and fine silver (for casting). This was my favorite up until the point I melted the enamel and got cracks! oh well

My husband and I love going on all sorts of picnics. So much so that we travel with our picnic blanket. We even had a fun picnic in front of the Eiffel Tower!!! After which we noticed that the Parisians really know how to set up fancy picnics on a daily basis....and we also noticed their super cool roll-away picnic table. So once we got back we decided to get one and I'm super excited to say we got this one yesterday at Crate & Barrel it's called Table in a Bag.....and we LOVE IT and can't wait to use it!

Wedding bells....first anniversary

Sunday the 7th of February was our first anniversary and to celebrate we took a trip up to Santa Barbara. We stayed at this little B & B called the Cheshire Cat. It was super cute and within walking distance to lots of fun spots. Thanks husband for such a wonderful weekend....it was the perfect combination of love + scrumptious food + relaxation (a very much needed getaway from orange county)!!
