With any luck, at least for its more than 5,000 Indiegogo backers, the Onagofly smart nano drone will succeed where the Zano nano drone failed.

Like that mini quadcopter, the Onagofly is controlled with an iOS or Android device and is primarily designed to snap aerial selfies or record 1080p full-HD video while it follows you around in the air. Unlike the Zano, which didn't deliver on its promise, the drone's developers are guaranteeing March 2016 delivery to its backers.

For your $200 (approximately £135 or AU$275), plus a $25 shipping fee for those outside the US or China, you get the drone, two sets of propellers and a charger. When the Onagofly ships, it'll be priced at $300 (£200 or AU$415).

A free mobile app lets you fly the device via a direct Wi-Fi connection, which stretches up to 30 meters (98 feet), by tilting your smartphone or with onscreen keys. Built-in GPS syncs with the GPS in your phone so the Onagofly will automatically track your movement. There are also passive infrared sensors on each side for basic avoidance of obstacles within 20cm of the drone. Plus, it measures only 5 by 5 by 2 inches (125 by 125 by 46 mm) and weighs in at just 140 grams (o.3 pounds) -- less than the FAA's 250-gram weight to require registration -- so it's something you can just toss in a bag.

Researchers slash their way thought World of Warcraft thanks to the Kinect

Living Rooms all around the world are shaking with fear of users actually taking swords and attacking their big screens thanks to a new hack for the Microsoft Kinect that allows gamers to play World of Warcraft without a keyboard.

It’s no secret that the Kinect is rapidly becoming the most hacked device since the Hackintosh, but students at the University of Southern California’s Institute for Creative Technologies have takent he next step in developing a software hack which enables gamers to use the motion device to immerse themselves even deeper into the online Mid-evil world.

The hack is called the “Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Toolkit, (FAAST) and it uses full-body motion control. Gamer can not only wield a sword or axe to take out a feisty orc, but they can also cast spells, making it nirvana for those who secretly love to dress up to play their favorite game. And it’s only a matter of time before someone figures out a way to use their light saber collection to battle someone online.

But with everyone creating bold new uses for the Kinect and porting it over to the PC, the sky is truly the limit for what can be done with this game changing device. And it makes the world of Minority Report that much closer, but in a bold and exciting way. Imagine editing video’s just with a snip of your fingers and a wave of your hand? Designing in CAD programs Tony Stark style. And getting rid of the keyboard forever?

It’s not just for games anymore and that’s a cool thing.

LightPad turns the smartphone into a tablet

What you are seeing here is the LightPad from QP Optoelectronics, and it is designed to turn the smartphone into something more tablet-sized.

Why would anyone want this? Have you ever done something on your smartphone that is so much easier to do on a laptop or tablet? I don’t even like sending text messages because I can’t stand touchscreen keyboards. Fortunately, the LightPad has a keyboard attachment.

There is a video after the jump if you want to see how it works, and the display that you see here is a projector with a 854 x 480 resolution for an 11-inch screen.

Future models of this will have the same size display but with 1280 x 720 resolution. I’m not certain if the present model will have this feature, but the projector can be turned around to create a 60 inch display on the wall.

I am surprised that the LightPad is one of the first products of its type, as HDMI cable seems to be only good for playing videos and viewing photos from a smartphone. I want to see my entire smartphone screen on my HDTV, not certain apps.

This LightPad will make an appearance at CES in January, and, assuming I have time and can conveniently pass their booth, I will be glad to try it out.

1) Smart Phones

The smart phone market has exploded this year, so most wireless providers now carry a large variety of models. 2) 3D Televisions

The Apple iPod Touch has been slimmed down and offers most of the features of the iPhone 4, including ìFaceTimeî (video chat) as long as wifi is available. If you’re shopping for a gadget lover, then the iPod touch is the way to go.

Pentel airpenPocket digital pen

Pentel has something extremely interesting up their sleeves this time around, where what they are offering is definitely different from what you would expect. Instead of the business-as-usual stationery, along ambles the airpenPocket digital pen. Yup, by its name alone, you can tell that this is definitely something more than special.

Just what the heck is the airpenPocket, you ask? For the uninitiated, this is actually a digital pen which is capable of wirelessly transmitting characters as well as images it draws on paper to a computer. To know what kind of technological wizardry lies behind this writing instrument (or rather, inside its chassis), you might as well hit the rest of the post.

For starters, the airpenPocket comprises of a specially designed digital pen and a memory unit, where it will feature Bluetooth connectivity as well as the ability to receive and send data. Whenever you use the pen to take down a note, it will automatically record whatever was written in the memory unit thanks to Pentel’s original method (ultrasound infrared). All relevant data will then be transferred over to a computer through Bluetooth.

This wireless setup is a dream for most folks, but like most other good things, they do come from humble beginnings. The airpenPocket’s predecessor relies on a USB cable for data transmission between its memory unit and a PC, so fitting the successor with Bluetooth connectivity is a no-brainer. Pentel hopes that the wireless capability of the airpenPocket will expand further the use of the pen with mobile devices.

Pentel hopes to have the pen play nice with smartphones and tablet devices that have Bluetooth support as well, and intends to roll out applications for Android-based devices from early March this year onwards. All saved data will end up on the server of Evernote Corp’s “Evernote” crowd service with but a click. This means the combination of an airpenPocket and a smartphone will make it possible to save a handwritten memo using Evernote’s service even if you are not at home, how now about that?

Just make sure the airpenPocket has enough juice left before writing down a really, really long thesis lest the dog eats your homework and you have no softcopy backup.

What you are seeing here is a “death-ray” made by gluing 5,800 tiny mirror tiles to a fiberglass satellite dish.

According to my Source, it is powerful enough to “melt steel, vaporize aluminum, boil concrete, turn dirt into lava, and obliterate any organic material in an instant”. Believe it or not, it was built by a 19-year-old named Eric Jacqmain who wanted to prove how powerful the sun’s energy is.

Okay, point taken! Unfortunately, Jacqmain’s invention failed because it was destroyed by a shed fire that was started by its own energy. Jacqmain says he want so build a more powerful version with 32,000 mirrors in the future. Will that be more powerful than the sun?

In all honesty, I’m not certain at what point the government should intervene when Death-rays are created. I think I saw an episode of Mythbusters where they were trying to find out whether some ancient mirror weapon could blast ships. As I recall, it was busted. Correct me in a comment if it was Plausible.

Okay, this is one those times where I doubt whether this is true, because this weapon seems too powerful and it is rather convenient how this particular WMD was accidentally destroyed.

Does anyone know whether or not this particular R5800 Death Ray is really true? I’m not saying that it is completely false, but I would like to find out more about it.

Sanyo Taho set to conquer the wilderness

Do you have a wild streak in you that intends to go off on an adventure at every single opportunity? Hands on with the Kensington Pro Fit Washable Keyboard

Whenever I get a chance to try out a keyboard to review for a post, it is my tradition to write the article about it on the keyboard itself.

Most of these keyboards are all alike, and this one isn’t wireless like the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750. It is USB and PS2 compatible, and it is good to go if you want to wash it. When I say washable, I mean that you can run the keyboard under a running faucet with soap, disinfectant, or bleach, and then air dry it. It’s all good, just keep the connector out of the water.

I would imagine that this would be the perfect keyboard to have around in a medical facility, where germs and other bloodborne pathogens are a job hazard. It even has built-in antimicrobial material for “continuous microbe resistance”.

I do have one complaint about the 104-key layout. The right Shift key is quite far away from where I normally rest my pinky finger. I suppose that I could adapt to that, but I don’t know how long it would take.

The device has a PS2 adapter, so you don’t have to worry about investing in one if that is your thing. You should be able get the Kensington Pro Fit USB/PS2 Washable Keyboard for $39.95 right here.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 fills a niche in the smartphone market

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X8 is one smartphone that is touted to fill the gap in the smartphone market, in particular, meeting the needs of consumers who are finding a slew of touchscreen smartphone handsets too large or too small for them. In other words, it fits your hand snugly, and work just fine for those digits of yours without getting in the way or creating an unsightly bulge in your pocket. Of course, another important factor to consider these days would be pricing, as these are economically trying times, so every penny saved is always more than welcome, and the Xperia X8 certainly does its part to make sure you do not spend more than you should even on an advanced smartphone.

Touting to bring the best of both worlds into one single device, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 will have features taken from both the Xperia X10 and mini. Already meant to be available globally from October this year, it is even tipped to attract all the more phone users to the smartphone market. One of its main strengths? The size which is highly appealling, as it is placed neatly in between the two aforementioned popular Sony Ericsson Xperia phones while sporting a 3 inch capacitive touchscreen display that translates to one-handed navigation and message composition on the virtual QWERTY keyboard in a jiffy. Misa Digital’s Kitara is a guitar with a touchscreen for strings

I think we all know that RockBandand Guitar Hero has changed the way that we look at guitars. Considering that these guitar games are played with strumming bars and push-button frets, it certainly paved the way for Kitara.

Kitara from Misa Digital also has a very non-traditional way of making a guitar. As you can see from the video after the jump, they have abandoned the strings for a touchscreen.

The video also shows that the Kitara can do some very interesting things, and can make some very interesting sounds. In fact, there are some noises it makes that sound like a synthesizer, rather than a guitar.

This Kitara has about 28 frets as well. I’m wondering why Misa Digital didn’t just make a giant iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad accessory that could do what the Kitara could do. That way, there would be an App for these interesting things that it could do. It could be a “player guitar”!

I suppose the Kitara is an instrument of the future. I can’t help but wonder if we are looking at an age when all guitars will be like Kitara touchscreen guitars. This would most certainly change the sound of music, wouldn’t it?

The Kitara has a very steep price at about $850.

iPad Lock is a long time in waiting

It is interesting to note that while there are so many notebooks and netbooks out there in the market, how many of said owners actually purchase a special kind of lock to make sure that nothing untoward happens to their precious devices whenever they are not around? I mean, take a look around you at Starbucks and all of those other coffee places, how many people actually leave their notebooks to chance whenever they go to the loo? Perhaps it is partly due to ego, where they don’t want to be seen as paranoid by the rest of the people there, but in either case, we’re sure the iPad isn’t going to be treated with such non-chalance, never mind that it is cheaper than some notebooks and hold a whole lot less sensitive data.

Enter the iPad Lock, where it is the first of its kind in the world. After all, you have already spent a small fortune on the latest Apple gizmo, so why not fork out a little bit more to make sure that all of it remains safe and sound whenever you aren’t around to take care of it in a public place? Heck, you will most probably use it more often than a regular netbook considering its portability, so getting the iPad Lock does make plenty of sense.

It will not slow down your mobility one bit, since you are able to lock and unlock it in seconds, where you can take it with you wherever you go. Of course, there is also another solution, which would be to mount your iPad to a stationary bracket, but then again that defeats the purpose of having an iPad in the first place.

It is also touted to be the best security solution for retailers, after all, stickers do leave residue while security cameras, theft detectors and security guards only come into action after events happen. Why not get the iPad Lock that virtually pays for itself many times over? Depending on the type of model you choose, the iPad Lock will retail anywhere from $39.95 to $79.95.

8pen Android App helps you text really fast, with just one hand

Some of you might remember when we reported onSwype, a very fast way to do one-handed texting. Swype works by putting out the QWERTY symbols on the touchscreen, and then connecting the dots to spell out what you mean.

This 8pen takes the keyboard and completely reinvents it. It essentially uses one dot, and then responds to the user’s finger movements. Basically, you start dragging your finger off the dot in a certain direction, like you are setting an analog clock. Your finger always arrives at that same spot, but what letter you entered depends on what path you take.

There is a video of it after the jump if you want to see it in action. You can clearly see that you would have to utterly learn how to type again in order to text with this guy, but 8pen says that it would be “easy to learn”.

If it really is easy to learn, and it could improve texting speeds, then you might be looking at the next big thing in texting here.

8pen should be available soon as an Android app for version 2.2 (Froyo)or later. Does anyone know any other texting Apps that could help improve texting speeds?

BendDesk could change the face of desktop computing

This is the BendDesk from Media Computing Group. Just looking at this picture makes me want one, badly.

I can honestly say that I would probably keep my desk a whole lot cleaner if it was a screen. I have a video of it after the jump that shows a very interesting photo sorting session. You will note how they can be arranged in a row at the “bend”.

What really made it interesting was the games. You will note how the horizontal area is used as a controller to zap the bad guys dominating the vertical portion of the screen. Don’t let them go around the corner!

I suppose that I am looking forward to a future where I have screens everywhere on this BendDesk. I would probably have my work and a movie going on the vertical screen, and I would have a bundle of side-projects literally at my side. I’m guessing that since it has ten possible points of touch activity, the horizontal area could be a good for a keyboard.

Man, I’m not certain if this would increase my productivity, or decrease my attention span. Perhaps both. Either way, I might want to get two projectors and set this up on my desk now. I don’t suppose that Media Computing Group is not going to be selling these anytime soon.

Square – Don’t be surprised when your babysitter asks for your credit card

I a tely blown away by the things that are available these days. Sometimes, I am intrigued by the technology, but at the same time, frightened by the implications. Are we really destined to become a cashless society?

A new company, called Square is turning the credit card processing industry on its ear with an application available at the iTunes store. Available for the iPad, the iPhone and iPod Touch, Square enables you to take credit card payments for, well, just about anything.

Once you register for the free Square app they will send you a card reader that plugs into your mobile device and then, let the swiping begin. With no contracts or monthly fees. Receipts are sent electronically and you can track your sales all in one place. Transaction fees are settled nightly, instead of monthly and it’s available for use by anyone that would like to be able to take credit cards, not just businesses.

Now I cant help but ponder how this nifty little program is going to be used, and I’m not certain it’s all going to be good, but the one thing I am sure of is that my next garage sale is going to be a whole lot different than it was before.

Hands on with the Psyko 5.1 PC Gaming Headset

I had a friend of mine try out Psyko Audio’s gaming PC Headset at CES last January. He told me they were “the best headphones that he had ever seen”.

You can imagine what kind of a set-up that is for a review. Either I am going to be really disappointed, or I’m going to agree with him. One thing I can say is that I am not disappointed.

The Pskyo 5.1 isn’t designed to be headphones, but a headset system for gaming. The system creates 3D sound like a room system, with 5 speakers in the bridge plus a sub-woofer positioned at each ear. It is created so that a gamer can hear exactly where a sound is coming from. By the way, just because they aren’t designed to be regular audio headphones doesn’t mean they can’t be used as them, and they work rather well in that capacity.

The Psyko Audio also has an extremely unique aesthetic quality. The ears are made of transparent plastic, and are easily adjustable. There is also a terrific removable microphone.

The Psyko 5.1 PC Gaming headset requires hooking up the earphones to an amp that you plug into the wall. The amp has an adjustable volume and bass. It requires some set-up for 5.1 surround sound.

You should be able to purchase the Psyko 5.1 PC Gaming Headset at the Psyko Audio site for a price of $299.99. That may sound pretty expensive, but this is probably going to be the last pair of headphones that you will need to buy for a long time. If you have a gamer on your Christmas list, and you can spare the cash, then this is your gift for that person.

Washable Thermometer Just For Women

I’ve never felt the need to own his and hers thermometers. After all, they all check your temperature well enough. Sure, some are better to use on squirming children, but between men and women it’s all pretty much the same. However, the Japanese feel very different than I do as it turns out. Instead of sharing a thermometer, they have a special washable thermometer just for women.

This Celsius thermometer features a backlight that’ll allow for you to even read the temperature in the dark. Again, yet another thing that I didn’t think I needed. It’s always so nice to have vendors out there to let you know what you didn’t know you always needed. Like a pink little thermometer that can be washed up after you’re finished. These will be released September 1st for only $35.

Microsoft unveils three AT&T phones for the United States

Microsoft is having a field day making announcements about Windows Phone 7 left and right, and they have revealed ten new phones for 30 countries. Three of these new phones are for AT&T.

The first is the Samsung Focus, which is the slimmest of the phones at about 9.9 millimeters thin. It has a 4-inch super AMOLED display, a 5 Megapixel camera, 1GHz processor, and 8GB of internal memory.

The second is the LG Quantum, and designed more for the business professionals. It has QWERTY and Dolby mobile as well as a “Play To app that can wirelessly stream videos, music, and photos to any DLNA-enabled TV or other device”.

The last is the HTC Surround, which is picture to the above left. The Surround has a 3.8 inch touchscreen as well as 16GB of internal memory. It also has a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 5-megapixel camera, and the first smartphone that has Dolby Mobile surround sound speakers that can slide up.

All three of these phones will be out some time around the holiday season, but my Source does not have an exact date. However, a recent ad for Windows Phone 7 said November 8th. I do know a price for these phones, and each of them are about $199.99.

DSLR turned into pinhole camera

Any photography lover can’t help but have a little bit of an appreciation for pinhole camera photography. Now that doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone wants to own yet another camera in order to achieve the look.
