Forgetting to remember is inconvenient.

2016-10-22T11:59:00.000-04:00

Whoa, haven't posted for a few weeks, now all my favorites list is gone.

Just gave up posting for awhile as my batteries are out on my camera and I keep forgetting to get some.

No fun to post without photos.

Forgetting is getting to be aggravating.

I don't shop except online and could order some.

I will do that today.

Been receiving some posts from Vee on my e-mail and I am so impressed with her strength and faith.

Grandson Ben settling into basic training.

Already showing leadership skills.

He won an athletic competition for his troop winning a 15 minute call home for himself and every member of his troop.

Ya Ben.

Learning to live with the cooler weather and trying not to have to turn on the new furnace yet.

Love to all and enjoy the fall.

I see this red roofed barn every time I go out my road to town.

It is in the distance but was able to get a pretty good close up shot.

I have driven around trying to find a road to this place but it evades me.

I like the red surprise I get when I drive this way.

Boy Scouts setting up for a camp out week-end on the Nazareth Campus where I volunteer on Fridays.

It was great to watch the activities of the scouts all over the campus.
They were here from all over the nation.

Yes, I am a little envious, I just can't hike like that. LOL

Due to computer problems missed a lot of blogging days.

Hope things are all good now.

Many things been going on.

Lost a dear friend in Mississippi.

A friend, a member of The Sisters of Charity right here in my home town was murdered in Mississippi last week.

Two of them served a poor section of the state as the only health care givers.

Both RN Practitioners.

May they rest in peace.

Pink Saturday with a heavy heart.

2016-08-27T11:52:00.000-04:00

It is Pink Saturday and one of my favorite memes.

Hope my computer is finally fixed after 4 attempts.

Last of August and our Crepe Myrtle is finally blooming.

Did not take my geranium outside this summer and it is just now blooming inside.

Love this geranium.

The leaf of the geranium is one of my favorites.

With my friends /Sisters of Charity at Nazareth Kentucky,

mourning the brutal murder of

Paula Merrill, scn and her co-worker Sr. Margaret.

Nurse Practitioners in one of the poorest sections of Mississippi.

Many, many persons with a heavy heart this week-end and in this case the only health care providers in that part of the state and folks will be without their kindness, generosity and life saving care they need.

In Jesus name, we pray.

Soulful Friday

Beautiful Nazareth Campus in Bardstown, Kentucky and myself are in mourning for the useless murder of one of our sisters in Mississippi.

Paula Merrill, SCN and her room mate Sr. Margaret were brutally murdered in their home in Missippi on Wednesday night.

It appears to have been a robbery, according to the officials in Miss.

Sr. Paula and Sr. Margaret were devoted registered nurse practitioners who ran a clinic in the poor section of Mississippi devoting their time to all the needs of the people.

Medical, social and much counseling.

They were loved by all.

Paula Merrill, SCN

I had just seen and spoke with Sr. Paula last Friday as she was at Nazareth, where I work on Friday, for a meeting.
She was so gracious and happy to see me.
She had worked at the Home Health Agency where I worked, a few years ago.

Our hearts are in pain at the loss of these two saintly women.

We are asked to pray for them and their families and those who did this terrible crime.

Missed a few Thursdays, glad to be back.

Entrance to a new home for one of our children and family.

One of the oldest and at one time one of the most beautiful homes in our town.
Once in the middle of a huge plantation, now squeezed in between "progress" and no one wants.

Fenced in and coming down.
One of the oldest and most beautiful old plantations sitting right in the middle of town.
Too big and old to be moved, so sad.

A new look to our backyard neighbor's chain link fence.

I have sure missed 2 weeks of blogging and so glad to be back.

There are four homes across out back yard. Three of them have privacy fences.

Remains of a beautiful time, long past.

2016-08-23T15:06:00.000-04:00

Today is Tuesday and I am joing

Tom with Tom's Tuesday's treasures.

Just spent another week and 1/2 without a computer.

Received repaired, hopefully, my computer from Dell after 2 techs came to my home and 2 trips via Fed-Ex to Dell.

Hope it is fixed for good.

Pass this red-roofed barn everytime I drive this way. It is way off in the distance and I don't know how to get to it.

I like it however.

This home was once one of the most beautiful homes in our town.

Built in what is now the center of town and many things surround it and it is no longer wanted here.

Located in Bardstown, Kentucky, the historic Anatok plantation house was built in 1847. By the time you read these words and see the pictures that follow, it may have been torn down. These are photos of its final days, waiting as the wrecking crew guts it, tearing it down, brick by brick. If the current court order is pulled, the house will again face demolition.

Owned by the school, Bethleham High School, needs this out of the way for parking.

This plantation once set in the center of a large estate. The rounded area had beautiful stained glass windows as it was the family chapel.
Those windows were placed in the new hospital built just outside of town as the home and hospital were both owned by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth and this once housed the sisters.

I have taught many a First Aide and CPR class in this beautiful old home when it was used by the hospital.

In the Pink Saturday

2016-07-15T21:09:00.000-04:00

We all love

Pink Saturday.

I like to buy from Swann's because I can see online all the nutritional counts before I buy and I am not one to go out to the grocery store.

HH does all of the grocery shopping but some things are harder to find than others, so I order different things I like online.

These are White Chocolate Strawberry Scones.

Love them with a cup of tea in the afternoon.

They come in a square and are scored so as to be able to select to cook only one if you would like.

Finally tomatoes coming on.

Things are getting lush around here now.

Continuing my Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest trip in Ky.

I looked this up on the Bernheim website and it is called a bottle-brush bush.
They are everywhere at Bernheim.

This was one of the exhibits during the identifying the trees at risk in Ky. projects.

Want to give your youth a wonderful experience in nature I would recommend this to any one.

Grand Social. Our grands first family loss.

2016-07-04T10:04:00.001-04:00

These two grands had a wonderful time, just one week ago, at the party for our GD's graduation.

This week they lost their maternal Grand Dad.

Both of our families were close to each other and because of his illness he was not present at this celebration.

However it was a surprise and a very sad occasion for us all that he had passed.

He was a Deacon in the Catholic Church and the Celebration of Life was so uplifting.

These are our daughter's children and they are so mature and respectful we could not be prouder.

May he rest in peace.

Our grandson, in the yellow shirt, had just gotten home from 2 weeks on a work study program in Peru.

He had lost 20 pounds.

Hiking, different foods etc. sure trimmed him down.

Backroading with Tom

2016-06-28T10:51:00.000-04:00

Went on a back roads adventure yesterday but so hot shot most of my pictures from the car.

Went To Bernheim Arboretum and Research Center about 13 miles from our home.

Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is a 14,000 acre (57 km²) arboretum, forest, and nature preserve located in Clermont, Kentucky (25 miles south of Louisville, Kentucky, United States).
Bernheim was founded in 1929 by Isaac Wolfe Bernheim, a German immigrant and successful brewer whose whiskey distillery business established the I.W. Harper brand. He purchased the land in 1928 at $1 an acre because most of it had been stripped for mining iron ore. The Frederick Law Olmsted landscape architecture firm started work on designing the park in 1931 and it opened in 1950. Bernheim Forest was given to the people of Kentucky in trust and is the largest privately owned natural area in the state. Olmstead designed the gardens at Biltmore Estate In N. C, and Central Park in New York. Bernheim, his wife, daughter, and son-in-law are buried in the forest.
In 1988, at least one outside consulting firm was engaged and work on a new long-range plan for the forest was begun. One of the directives of the new strategic plan was to make the arboretum a primary focus. In addition, the forest decided to strengthen its research ties with institutions such as the University of Louisville. As a result, Bernheim Forest was renamed Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest. However, most local visitors still refer to the property as "Bernheim Forest," and some of the signage located along surrounding roads still refer to the old name. In recent years, Bernheim has developed a strong volunteer program, added frequent public workshops and classes, and successfully hosts several large public events each year. These include the annual ColorFest in October, Bloomfest in May, CONNECT, an evening in August where art, science and nature converge in unexpected and funky ways, and a 5-mile (8 km) run/walk, held in October. The most recent even was Hug a Tree on Earth Day. Hundreds of folks traveled here to do just that.

When we first moved to this area we visited Bernheim weekly.

Picnics, hikes, school and community activities.

Seen many a concert on the Great Meadow by the Louisville Orchestra.

The Entrance.

In addition to the natural beauty all the art in the forest is of natural materials.

There is an artist in residence at all times.

The famous Ray Harm once lived here for many years.

Too hot to get out of the car to see the name and artist of this new piece.

This piece has been here for many years and is unnamed. It can be seen on Bernheim's website.

Behind this sculpture is a fish pond, pagoda, and beautiful Nevin Lake.

I happen to have this photo of the lake in my archives.

Just too not for me to walk that far.

Mosaic of glass outside the Isaac's Cafe

The Children's Garden and play area.

Wonder if anyone heard this huge tree fall in the forest from a lightening strike.

There is no end to the treasures in this place.
When It is cooler I will present some more treasures from here.

Talking with the grands about careers. Nothing better.

2016-06-27T09:32:00.000-04:00

Nothing makes grandparents feel better than spending time with their grands one on one.

Grandson has completed 2 years of college in communication.

He and his friends are considering going into the army.

Our son, and all of us, secretly hope he doesn't but no one wants to discourage him. He and his papaw are very close.

GS asks

"What do you think Papaw?"

Papaw did not pass for the army due to a heart problem and can not give any advise based on experience.

Papaw always encourages the grands to look at all alternatives.

GS seems to have a calling for criminal forensics.

He is waiting for clearance on a football shoulder injury to go into training.

Trusting in God to help him decide.

GD sitting across from me is a CNA wanting to persue a career into nursing.
That is all she ever talks about to me. She started nursing school and found it very hard.
Recently I have read a BSN is the hardest career to reach in college these days.
I told her to keep on trying.

True the college and training is a lot harder than the actual work.

I can remember our professors and Lab RNs telling us this is the way your learn to do it right. It may not end up being the actual way you do it.
Must be very flexible and autonomous to be a nurse.
