An Inside Look: The Faherty Brand Showroom

As soon as you enter the Faherty Brand showroom and store, you’ll sense a relaxed, cool vibe that you might have once believed only an oceanside trip could provide. Lining the racks are swimsuits rich with color and patterns collected from the designers’ travels.

Women’s two-piece styles come in a variety of shapes you can mix and match, while the one-pieces have an elegant, retro feel to them. For men, swim trunks are full of practical detailing like hidden back zip pockets. One of my favorite aspects of the men’s line is its faded, sun-weathered hues.

But the best part? These swimsuits are made with recycled polyester from plastic bottles. Approximately seven bottles go into the swimsuits and 20 into the swim trunks. It’s nice to know these pieces are not only comfortable – they’re environmentally sound, too.

Es bueno saber que estas piezas no solo son cómodas pero también bueno para el medio ambiente también.

Monday night while it was pouring rain outside club No.8; Parke and Ronen made us forget all about it. DJ Mos was playing awesome beats and the crowd viewed the Parke And Ronen Resort 2014 collection. I had a moment to talk to Ronen and when I asked him what was the inspiration of the collection he said, "I will not tell you where we're going- we are taking you on a journey. This collection is not the final destination. So enjoy the ride." Now, I did find some clues as to where they were taking us. The presentation was divided in to acts and the clothes bared names like Midas cardigan, Sparta zip:front and Poseidon burgundy print. I will let you figure it out on your own.

The Collection had all the essentials for summer plus those special items that bring a swim suit to the next level like the Midas cardigan in white and the Kostas Colorblock shirt in Chambray. Personally, I'm enjoying this journey.

It's not everyday one has a chance to meet for lunch with a menswear designer you've admired for years. When I arrived at the studio I was greeted with a hug and I knew instantly this was going to be a pleasant experience and I was right. We first started talking about how the city has changed in the last few years. You see, Carlos has been working out of the same studio for the last eight years and has seen the growth of the garment district, "The place used to be deserted years ago and now there's all these people everywhere." We didn't talk shop the whole time, family is a big part of Carlos' life and mine. Coincidentally, our families support our endeavors but somehow do not fully understand what we do in the fashion industry. Once, while in Honduras his sister was channel surfing and saw Carlos' face on the screen and after staring at it for 2 seconds and looking back at him she continued flipping channels until she found something she liked. She never mentioned that she saw him on TV! Likewise, my little sister new that I worked in magazines for years but it wasn't until one day Rihanna was playing on the radio and I told her I did a photo shoot with her that she said, "so that's what you've been doing in NYC all this time?" Our families keep us humble.

One of the things you can expect from clothes by Carlos Campos is a beautifully tailored garment. He's hands-on in the design process- he makes the patterns himself. Undoubtedly I learned in this visit that Carlos Campos is passionate about his craft.

Almorzando con unos de tus diseñadores favoritos no es algo que sucede todos los días. Cuando llegue al estudio Carlos me recibió con un abrazo y enseguida supe que esto iba ser una gran experiencia. Empezamos hablando acerca de como el área del Garment Distric ha cambiado en los últimos años. Carlos ha trabajado en el mismo estudio por ocho años, "Esta área era un desierto no había nadie, ahora hay gente en todos lados." No solo hablamos de trabajo, nuestras familias son muy importante para ambos. El me contó que estando en Honduras su hermanita estaba buscando algo que ver en la televisión y de repente aprecio la cara de Carlos en las noticias su hermana miro la pantalla por dos segundos y después a el. Ella cambio el canal como si nada! Nuestras familias nos mantienen humildes.

Una de las cosas que puedes esperar de Carlos Campos es la belleza de la hechura de sus prendas de vestir. Su proceso de diseño es de manos a la obra, él hace sus propios patrones. Sin duda en esta visita he aprendido sobre la pasión que tiene por su arte.

This has been a very action packed week and its not over yet! There's been a lot happening work-wise and blog related so stay tuned for interviews, photo shoots and more. I'm prepping for two shoots and samples are pulled, models casted, photographer and groomer booked and all the other logistically accepts of putting together an editorial are still getting worked out. That's my life right now in a nut shell and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Ha habido nuevos proyectos a nivel de mi trabajo y también relacionado con el blog entonces estate pendiente por las entrevistas, photo shoots y mas. Don't know about you but there are certain shoes I don't even bother tying, I just slip them on and go. I heard about Hickies, elastic bands you can add to your shoes and decided to try them out. My running shoes became my guinea pigs. The colorful elastic bands are very secure- I felt a very firm hold throughout my run. I especially like when things fit seamlessly with what I already own. As you can see my Brooks running shoes and Hickies look like they were meant for each other. Hickies come in a variety of colors so you know there is something there for you. What shoes will you try them on?

You already know how to wear a shirt and tie with your suit. Here is how to maximize what you already own or will own in the near future. As soon as I laid eyes on this ASOS suit I knew I wanted it and all these different ways to wear it came to mind.

Use the blazer as a sports coat. If you get a neutral color like grey, navy and khaki without a particular pattern like herringbone or pinstripes you'll find it easier to use as a separate. In some parts of the country the temperature drops in the evenings. This look is great for a night out and you can opt out of the cardigan and still look sharp.

Men's e-tailer Frank & Oak hosted the launch of their newest collaboration on the rooftop of the McKittrick hotel on May 15th. The weather was just right for a rooftop party and this spring rock-chic collection. The Frank & Oak x Dave1 capsule collection includes white jeans, stylish summer blazers, low-cut tees and crisp button downs available as of May 21st. At the event I had the great pleasure to sit down with Creative Director Ethan Song and later with Dave1 (from the electro-punk duo, Chromeo) to chat about the collection.

How would you describe the collection?
- This capsule collection is a little different from what you'll find on the site. It's more chic and you'll find black and navy, on the site right now we have brighter colors and sun washed fabrics. Also, the white jeans in the collection are our first attempt at denim.

Do you see more collaborations with musicians in the future?
- Music is a very important part of fashion so you'll see more exciting projects in future.

What's your favorite piece in the collection?
- My favorites are the midnight blue shawl collar blazer and white jeans.

How long did this collaboration take place?
- The process took about 3 months, very fast. It's one of the things about working on-line, it permits us to get things done faster.

Dave, how would you describe your own personal style?

- It's a mix of French scumbag with American scumbag

Would you do a collaboration like this again?

-Yes, I love this and would even do furniture design.

Did you do any research before you're first meeting with Ethan?

- I did some research but I essentially created pieces that I've always wanted and never found. Like a well fitting button down that's not too long and not too wide and perfect fitting white jeans.

Which is your favorite piece in the collection?

- My favorite is the midnight blue shawl collar blazer.

One of the things that I've learned about the fashion industry is that it's always working on seasons ahead of the current season. The Sex and Safari Spring/Summer 2013 collection continues the irreverent take on preppy by adding the Unruly Heir spin on the everyman's classic pieces like the short sleeve shirt, henley and swim trunks. In the collection you'll find cool paisley prints and original illustrations by John. As I was walking on Houston Street in SoHo I couldn’t avoid seeing the four-story billboard for Concept, Calvin Klein’s new men’s underwear line, and wondering – are men really that particular about underwear? Remembering the last time I assisted a celebrity stylist, I quickly answered my own question: why yes, they are. I was once sent to get black Calvin Klein boxer briefs for a celebrity, and when he discovered they had a white elastic band rather than a black one, I was immediately sent back to buy him the all-black pair.

With the launch of Calvin Klein‘s Concept collection bringing their underwear line count to 16, I realized just how many pairs of underwear there are for men to choose from. We all know the classics like Hanes and Fruit of the Loom, which are known for comfort and cotton, but there are more options out there – with each one offering a little something special.

Take D.HEDRAL for example. This British label’s underwear is patented with ANGLEFIT technology and made with lightweight luxury Italian fabrics. There is also Garçon Model, a Canadian label that offers cutting-edge fashion and comfort while using premium fabrics. Then there are labels like Flint and Tinder – all their products, from fabric to packaging, are made in the USA. In the end it’s a matter of what’s important to the man buying the underwear – and once that decision is made, he will not back down (trust me on this one).

In this installment of the 3-Ways to Wear series it's all shot Selfie style. This past week my vintage German army shirt has been my go-to item. I ended up using it as a light jacket and never regretted it. How many pieces do you own that are this versatile? I found this one Polo Ralph Lauren and Michael Bastian to be great options.

As pictured here you can wear a denim jacket with jeans just make sure they're a darker wash. You can also wear the denim jacket with chinos, a button down shirt and tie, It'll have you looking very sharp. Remember, the denim jacket is a classic so you'll never have to get rid of it.

Having lived in SoCal for a couple of years my appreciation for sunglasses has quadrupled. So when I was invited to the Randolph Engineering by Michael Bastian Spring/Summer 2013 eyewear launch I felt like two of my favorite things finally came together. I had a few minutes to talk to the man of the hour, Michael Bastian about his eyewear collection. He explained that he went in to the archives and updated and tweaked some of their classic designs by using different materials or shapes but still keeping true to the Randolph Engineering spirit but with the MB touch. As you can see the end product speaks for itself, these designs are timeless and both men and women will love to wear them.

In the last couple of weeks I've gone to shops that are not as well known as some other stores but still deserve your attention. This month I'll dedicate some time in introducing you to some of these hidden gems.

The first shop in the series is called Fine And Dandy Shop. Located in Hell's Kitchen in NYC, Fine And Dandy Shop is a little oasis for the sartorially inclined. You mighty come here for the environment but most importantly for the beautifully handcrafted accessories by Matt and Enrique. Not only have they curated this beautiful space with vintage Ivy league images and collegiate paraphernalia you can also find them online to shop for all those amazing ties, handkerchiefs, pocket squares, and even spats for your shoes. Take a walk to the shop and say hello and pick up a few things that will add that extra something to your wardrobe.

I think its very timely that this song has been on the radio the last couple of weeks because I've found myself needing to say goodbye and starting a new chapter in my life.
