VS Video productions recently completed a training video for Federal and local agencies in Denver. The rehearsal training exercise took place at E.37th ave in Denver. All types of emergency agencies participated in this training excercise. VS Video Productions provided 3 camera operators with audio for 12 participants and recorded the video and audio which will be edited into a training video for emergency personnel.

Tips to prepare for a corporate video

We get many calls from clients wanting to know how to produce an effective corporate video. Many have never done video for their companies before. Video in today’s day and in age is very valuable in getting the companies message accross to clients and to customers. Budgets are tight but this should not be the first consideration. The first consideration should be the message you are sending out to your clients or employees. First establish your goals for the video, what do you want it to do, motivate,education,stimulate sales etc. Next write down a sumary of your message. A good introduction to the company, do you want to use your CEO in the video for a short introduction. , or maybe use a professional narrator to tell the story. The video should be professional, so allocate some funding for it. Other questions to ask, is do you want to make it public, or just in house. Even if it set for inhouse distribution, make sure it is done professionally, employees will not appreciate that their company has produced something that is inferior, they want to feel good about the place they work at. If it’s set for public use make sure it is compelling and motivates customers to visit your website. Your company can use the video on You Tube on their own website to promote it’’s products or services. When starting to search for a production company don’t ask about price alone, tell them what you want to accomplish and ask if they have done other projects like this and if you can see some samples. Beware of some production companies that do not specialize in corporate video or give you a low ball pricing structure. How to get a job in The Video Industry

This article addresses some tips on what you need to do in order to get hired for video production jobs.I decided to write this blog because of the many inquiries that we get for video production jobs.If you are just getting out of college with no experience don’t expect any production company to let you start shooting their clients projects. The way to get experience in this field is to do internships to gain experience and this should be done during your last two years of college. After college don’t expect to make lot’s of money, our industry doesn’t pay lot’s of money. Ask the employer if they can give you a trial run for free. Prove to them that you can do the job. You will probably start out as a production assistant or a video tape logger. If you can prove yourself doing some of the lower end jobs, eventually you will move up. Have a great attitude and be willing to go with the flow. The most importatnt tip to get hired as a videographer or video editor is make sure you have video samples available preferably online that an employer can see your work instantly. Our industry is a visual medium, resumes do not cut it in our industry. Take advantage of the free uploads on You Tube, Google and Aol. I just recently hired an individual in a matter of a few minutes because he had a video sample on Youtube. If you are compiling a demo tape, make sure you stand out from the rest. Create something that will catch the viewer eye in a matter of a few seconds. Create a compelling story with your videos, don’t just point and shoot, anyone can do that. Advertisers on Craigslist

I am writing this because I am pretty disgusted at the ads I see for video production personnel on Craigslist. However it is truly buyer beware on Craigslist. I have hired some good people but have also had some really bad ones. You really have to check these people out if you are going to use them on your crew. This blog does not put blame on Craigslist but condemns the advertisers that place ads on Craigslist to hire video professionals in our industry.I don't know If I should laugh or cry when I see some of these posted ads by advertisers, that want to pay $250 for a two day shoot or an ad I saw for an HD shooter for $125 per day. Most of the pro guys don't use Craigslist because they have established clients, but even for the guy that is just starting out or even with someone with some experience this pay scale is outrageous. The main point to this is that by these advertisers wanting to pay third world wages in our industry it devalues our business. Video Production must have a standard, that is what diffirentiates us from uncle Harry with his camcorder and his $50 editing software he purchases online. I truly hope that no one is that desperate to take these jobs at these rates and shame on these advertisers that actually think someone is going to give them a quality product at these rates. We are not in the fast food industry and don't let us become that. Let them know what the industry standard is which is usually $75 per hour and up. Most of us have college degrees, we have also invested thousands of dollars in equipment and provide our clients with superior quality productions. Stand up for yourself and the industry and let them know that. I am hoping that Craigslist actually starts charging advertisers to post jobs and eliminates the free ads, as this will hopefully filter out those advertisers that are looking for cheap labor. I hope these advertisers get to read this and don't treat our industry like the fast food industry, beacuse we are not.

As video artists we typically like to create and not deal with the business aspects, however we all need to preserve our clients and not loose them to competitors or to an employee or contract employee. Even if you are only using contract employees make sure they sign a non-compete clause. This will protect you and your business from possibly loosing your clients. If you don't know what a non-compete clause is here is the legal definition. A non-compete clause, or covenant not to compete (CNC), is a term used in contract law under which one party (usually an employee) agrees to not pursue a similar profession or trade in competition against another party (usually the employer). After experiencing this for ourselves we now have every person that works for us sign one before work begins. Just food for thought next time you use contract employees or have permanent employees.
