1938 Rucksack

Short Review - Margiela for H&M

Just in few words and only because I saw this collection today by accident.

Of course I knew about Margiela's collaboration with H&M and have checked collection online. I am happy that some little part of Margiela's genius will be accessible to regular people like me but I didn't made any fuss about it as I just don't have any particular feelings about designer clothing per se.

No, don't misunderstand me, for me fashion is very interesting phenomenon which novelties I somehow tend to follow, but I am sure that I would never spend a fortune on designer's item only because it is designer's item. I never even felt such a craving that I would be ready to sacrifice cultural events, books, good food etc. just to collect money for IT item.

What I do appreciate is good quality and good tailoring. This is something on what I spend money and what pays off (I own some vintage garments that I love so much that I am wearing them year by year and they are still in great condition). This is what really sets Margiela aside. Quality is amazing. I paid more attention on jackets than other kind of garments and noticed that every seam, fabric and fitting is really well thought out. It was actually huge surprise for me as I did not expected much after last collaboration - Anna Dello Russo for H&M - which was just overpriced pile of gold colored plastic s**t (and its me who is saying this, me - the biggest fan of fake gold ever)

So, in case you have not seen it yet, I will share couple of pictures of items whose quality really impressed me

Time after time I will share with you some of my recent great discoveries.

In search for one item, I can spend days and even months. I rather invest more but in items that last longer and don' t sudenly dissapoint me. This especially applies to shoes. I am not shoe fetishist and own maybe 10 pairs of shoes, but I buy almost exclusively vintage (70s and before), because of incomparable price / performance proportion. Many of vintage shoes which I own, especially the ones made in Spain and Portugal before 80s - 70s , are all handmade, with attention to detail, comfort and fit. They can last for years.

Besides vintage shoes there is quite an assortiment of cobbler made shoes, but many of them look like only my grandma would wear them.

(Regarding to this I could tell little fun story about my grandma. She really ordered an individually made pair of boots at then most popular Latvian shoemaker salon called "Elegants" about 10 years ago. After several years she gave these boots to local sweeper lady and swore - never ever again ..... ! She was wearing one pair of boots for 5 winters (which is like half a year in Latvia) and they still looked like new, so at the end she was totally annoyed by how indestructible these boots are and that her Sovietic mentality did not allowed her to buy new pair while this one was still functional so she choose just to give them away. Its so rare that something like that happens nowadays. Usually if you buy one pair in regular shop, spend several hundreds $ maybe on them, then you just blindly hope and cross your fingers that they will last this one winter... And this happens rarely...)

So one of my not so recent but very singinficant discoveries is "Goodbye Folk" handmade shoes on Etsy. They are custom made and have all sorts of fancy designs and patterns and look really good quality. I have not ordered a pair for myself yet so can not be 100 % sure about quality, but I hope to do that sooner or later. I have put my eyes especially on these ones:

Just a couple of my autumn fashion inspiration pictures.

As I already mentioned, in cold seasons I tend to find myself totally confused with what to wear, I am just not meant for cold weather I assume - freezing all the time, not knowing what to wear to be comfortable, warm and still maintain some self confidence with all those layers, big sweaters, wool tights etc. ... These few pics helped me to find some inspiration in otherwise very tiring process - shopping for autumn / winter garments. Hope they give you some inspiration too!

With cold weather approaching I get totally confused what to wear to keep myself warm and cozy but look respectable at the same time (not like Russian babooshka)

I am hunting all over Riga, visiting pretty much any secondhand in search for furs, loose / crop sweaters and vintage mod dresses. Fashionwise autumn is always confusing but at least now I know what I want and party thanks to Mochino A / W 2012 collection

Autumn Trend - Mod Dresses

Mod dresses. Jewel of 60s. Firm, structured, warm (because thick) and easily pairable with pretty much anything.

They are everywhere, from high - street stores to Fashion Weeks' collections and I totally love it.

So after you check out your nearest H & M take a look at original 60s pieces (not reproductions) at Ebay or Etsy and you will be surprised. This is design which is still quite available thats why prices usually are very reasonable. But not for long, I guess.

Nordic Forest Rendezvous - Behind the Scenes

We arrive in the middle of forest. 4 cars, 2 models, 2 photographers, 2 organizers and about 60 carefully selected vintage garments. Quite a surprise in berrie and musroom pickers' routine

(My outfit - 80s peach silk blouse with satin pockets and collar + 70s denim cut off shorts comes from BetaVintageCasual shop, set which my mom gave to me when I just came back to Latvia )
