Steam Tofu with Fried Sakura Prawns

Last Friday, I have decided to eat healthy so I steamed most of my food. This is one of the dishes that my family loves to eat. It is a simple dish that you can bring lots of variations in like Steamed Tofu with minced pork or chicken or Steamed Tofu on its own, etc.

Ingredients:
A box of tofu that is meant for steaming
200g of Sakura prawns (can brought it from any supermarkets)
a pinch of salt
2 teaspoon of light soya sauce
a dash of sesame oil
freshly grinned peppers (mixed peppercorns prefer)

Methods:
1) Steamed the tofu for about 8 - 10 minutes
2) Once the tofu is done, stir fried the prawns till it was golden brown
3) Then add a pinch of salt into the prawns for favour
4) Pour the prawns on top of the tofu
5) Drizzle the light soya sauce, grinned peppers and a dash of sesame oil over the prawns and tofu

Variations:
You can add the 200 grams of minced pork or chicken instead of prawns. Please marinade the mince before cooking them. Marinade with sesame oil, light soya sauce and peppers for about 30 minutes or more. Heat the wok up high then throw in the mince and stir fry till it was broken apart into tiny bits. Then pour on top of the tofu.

Enjoy the dish!!

Clean Toy and Donate!!!

Japanese Beef Stew

Last week, I was cooking my son's favourite dish, Japanese Beef Stew. I brought the mix from the supermarket which I cannot remember exactly which supermarket. The steps I used is a bit different from the box. The amount of food to put inside is also varies.

Ingredients:

A packet of Japanese Beef Stew mix

500 grams of beef stew pieces

200 grams of beef mince

2 medium sized carrots

1 large brown onions

1 litres of water (I used only about 800 - 850 ml for thicker sauce)

Methods:

1) Wash all the ingredients

2) Cut the brown onion into slices

3) Cut the carrots into big chunks

4) Use a thick base pot to cook the stew as you need to stir fry the ingredients first.

5) Put about 1 teaspoon of oil into the pot to heat it up

6) Put onions in and stir fry till translucent

7) Put the carrots in once the onions is cooked

8) Once the carrots are in for about 5 - 10 minutes of stir frying, put in the beef pieces and mince

9) When the beef is half done, put in the water and bring up to boil on high fire

10) Once the water is boiled, turn the fire down to medium fire and add in the stew mix

11) Stir the stew till the mix is completely dissolved

12) When it is done, cover the pot and turn the fire to low and simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Depends on how soft you want the meat to be, you adjust the timing. Please remember to give the stew a stir once in a while if not it will burned at the bottom of the pot.

13) People who have pressure cooker can do it faster than the normal pot. You can use the pressure cooker to cook the stew for about 30 - 40 minutes.

Recently, I started my baking again. Most the cakes and cupcakes that I made are bananas. Bananas cakes, cupcakes, bananas and cashew nuts cupcakes and bananas chiffon cakes. All being requested by my mum. She loves my bananas cakes and breads. While my hubby ate anything that I baked or cooked , my son loves to watch and supervise my baking. He will then finished eating all my cupcakes. He has been asking me to make sushi and ice cream. I might take this opportunity to use my ice cream machine. Too bad folks, no photos to show you how my cakes looked like. I will baked again and take a photo to post it on my blog. Therefore, look up for my latest invention.

Taiwan Trip is Fantastic!!!

Recently, my hubby was posted to Taipei for couple of weeks. Since the opportunity came knocking, I took up my bags and flew to Taiwan with my son. It was a fantastic trip and a fabulous hotel. We are staying at the Sherwood Hotel which is apparently the top hotel in the region. Guess what I saw some Hong Kong stars over there too. I also experienced the starting of typhoon on our last few days of our stay. The night markets in Taiwan is sooo crowded and soooo expensive. I went to Shilin Night Market to experience their night life. It was packed with tourists and locals too. I saw something I like and asked the price. I had a shock of my life. A pant for TWD980 which I can get two or even more at the WuFenPu Market. A piece of advice if you want to get clothes, shoes or any other things, go to WuFenPu Market to check out the prices first. Don't get beaten off by the seller.

We brought our son to the volcano in Taiwan, Yang Ming Shan, which is very scenic. You can actually bring some eggs there and cooked your own hot spring eggs. There is also a hot spring foot bath pool and a hot spring pools for you to dip. Warning: You must be naked to go into the pools!!! My son loves the hot spring foot bath and played there for quite a while.

We went to the zoo too to look at the pandas. They are so cute. Due to the crowds,we cannot stayed put in one area and have to move. Therefore, we could only have a few minutes glimpse of the panda. Other than that, the Taiwan zoo is nothing much compared to Singapore zoo.
