The National Defense Authorization Act signed by President Obama on the eve ofthe New Year has now come to a standstill. (Wisconsin Rapids, WI) – A state wide celebration of the Tea Party movement will be held June 15 – 16, 2012 at the historic Hotel Mead and Convention Center, in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.

The name LibertyVention has been adopted for the event to reflect the Tea Party’s true mission. The movement sprung up more than three years ago out of a desire to restore liberty and roll back government intrusion into the lives of American citizens.

Plans are in full motion to bring national and state speakers to the two day convention-style gathering. Individual members of Tea Party and invited groups from across Wisconsin will be in attendance to engage, network, learn and relax during the two day event.

LibertyVention will be hosted by Northwoods Patriots, Wisconsin 9/12 Project, The Uninfringed Liberty Group and Wausau Tea Party. Other Tea Party groups who would like to help sponsor the event, please contact one of the hosting groups.

“Wisconsin’s history and political circumstances yield some unique challenges for liberty-minded individuals and groups here,” Kirsten Lombard notes. “We wanted to gather people to network, relationship-build, and idea-share in ways that will allow them to navigate those challenges successfully.”

SENATE BILL 1182

AN ACT

AMENDING TITLE 41, ARIZONA REVISED STATUTES, BY ADDING CHAPTER 51; RELATING TO THE NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT OF 2012.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Title 41, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding chapter 51, to read:

CHAPTER 51

GOVERNMENTAL COMPLIANCE WITH THE

NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT OF 2012

ARTICLE 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS

41-5050. National defense authorization act of 2012;

prohibited acts; violation; classification

A. THIS STATE AND ANY AGENCY OF THIS STATE SHALL NOT PROVIDE MATERIAL SUPPORT OR PARTICIPATE IN ANY WAY WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SECTIONS 1021 AND 1022 OF THE NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT OF 2012, PUBLIC LAW 112‑81, AGAINST ANY CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES.

B. THE DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY OR A SHERIFF OF THE COUNTY SHALL REPORT TO THE GOVERNOR AND THE LEGISLATURE ANY ATTEMPT BY AGENCIES OR AGENTS OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO SECURE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SECTIONS 1021 AND 1022 OF THE NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT, 2011 PUBLIC LAW 112-81 THROUGH THE OPERATIONS OF THAT OR ANY OTHER STATE DEPARTMENT.

C. ANY PUBLIC OFFICER, EMPLOYEE OR AGENT OF THIS STATE WHO ENFORCES OR ATTEMPTS TO ENFORCE AN ACT, ORDER, LAW, STATUTE, RULE OR REGULATION OF THE UNITED STATES IN VIOLATION OF THIS SECTION IS GUILTY OF A CLASS 1 MISDEMEANOR.

Sec. 2. Findings

A. The Legislature finds that the enactment into law by the United States Congress of sections 1021 and 1022 of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 is inimical to the liberty, security and well-being of the people of Arizona and that those sections were adopted by Congress in violation of the limits of federal power in the United States Constitution.

B. The Legislature further finds that sections 1021 and 1022 of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012, as they purport to authorize the detainment of persons who are citizens of the United States and captured within the United States without charge or trial, military tribunals for persons captured within the United States who are citizens of the United States and the transfer of persons who are citizens of the United States and who are captured within the United States to foreign jurisdictions, violate the following rights enshrined in the Constitution of the United States:

1. Article I, section 9, clause 2 relating to the right to seek a writ of habeas corpus.

2. The First Amendment right to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

3. The Fourth Amendment right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures.

4. The Fifth Amendment right to be free from charge for an infamous or capitol crime until presentment or indictment by a grand jury.

5. The Fifth Amendment right to be free from deprivation of life, liberty or property without due process of law.

6. The Sixth Amendment right in criminal prosecutions to enjoy a speedy trial by an impartial jury in the state and district where the crime was allegedly committed.

7. The Sixth Amendment right to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation.

8. The Sixth Amendment right to confront witnesses.

9. The Sixth Amendment right to counsel.

10. The Eighth Amendment right to be free from excessive bail and fines, and cruel and unusual punishment.

11. The Fourteenth Amendment right to be free from deprivation of life, liberty or property without due process of law.

Sec. 3. Short title

This act may be cited as the "Liberty Preservation Act".

MADISON, Wis. - "Republican Texas Rep. Ron Paul used his only planned campaign stop in Wisconsin on Thursday to speak to a receptive crowd largely composed of college students who braved chilly temperatures to cheer on his message of personal liberty on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.

With temperatures in the mid-40s, Paul urged a couple thousand supporters outside the student union not to give up before Tuesday's primary. Paul said at a similar stop Wednesday at the University of Maryland that he has no plans to drop out of the presidential race even though he is running a distant fourth.

The Wisconsin crowd rewarded him with cheers of 'President Paul!'

Playing to the Wisconsin crowd, Paul said he was so committed to personal liberty, 'I would even let you drink raw milk if you wanted to.' Whether to legalize the sale and use of raw milk has been an ongoing debate in Wisconsin, which is nicknamed 'America's Dairyland.'

After his comments, Paul praised embattled Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who faces a recall election after effectively ending collective bargaining last year for most public workers.

'He's trying hard to change things, I think, in a positive way,' Paul said...

While the 76-year-old Paul has appealed to young people, that support has not translated into a surge at the polls. Exemplifying his challenge were two high school classmates who drove about two hours from northern Illinois to hear the speech in Madison...

Still, they held out hope that Paul could prevail in the GOP primary where former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is leading but has not captured enough delegates to clinch.

'I don't think anybody's going to get the nomination at this point,' said Kevin Mulcrone, of Western Springs, Ill., who leads his high school chapter of young people for Paul. 'I think we'll have a good brokered convention in August.;

Echoing that sentiment was Sal Strehlow, 28, a banker from Milwaukee who said he planned to vote for Paul and hoped he'd find a way to pull out the nomination.

'I don't think you can give up hope until it's over," he said...."

"I would like to give kudos to the four school board members, namely Randell Kruger, Mark Critelli, Marlene Stueland and Mark Konrardy for voting in favor to keep and maintain the Marshfield Middle School where it presently is located.

I recently attended one of the listening sessions at the middle school, and it was almost unanimous from those who attended and spoke that the middle school should remain where it is and necessary repairs be made as time and money permits.

People who hold office are put there by a vote of the people and taxpayers, and it is their duty to uphold the wishes of the majority of the voters. Apparently Tim Deets, Frances Bohon and Graham Olson don't feel that way.

How anyone could support building additions on the high school or Grant Elementary School and move the eighth-graders up there, either have a private agenda or are ill-informed.

There is almost as much traffic in those two areas as downtown Milwaukee. A recent survey showed 11,000 cars a day on North Peach Avenue, and that funnels onto Becker Road toward the high school and toward the Marshfield Clinic area. Now, mix that with students and children. What are we thinking?

When schools were built in the past hundred years or so, they were built in different locations so student populations could be divided for good reasons -- safety being the main one -- and children could walk to school and not be dependent on public transportation.

I believe the cost figures to repair the middle school have been exaggerated, and these estimates should be made by people who don't have a vested interest in making the repairs.

I feel the administrator should conduct a walk through and be shown all their so-called terrible conditions. I know for a fact that school staff members have been told not to make certain repairs so conditions look worse to the public.

A good example of that is the track as no major repairs have been made to that for about 10 years. This and the solid stadium are a couple of things that can be given back to the taxpayers. The stadium has been criticized for poor construction, but it does not have board bleachers, but cement, brick and planks -- one of the best in the valley.

Another concern I have is that the Roddis family has given years of use of its property to the school area, and I understand have now donated it to the Marshfield School System. What are we to do, just walk away and say "no, thank you" to their generous contribution?

As far as the age of the school, there are schools in almost every city in the Wisconsin Valley that are older than this one and still very much in use, which I could name, if necessary.

If the middle school is too old for use as a school, we really have to be careful. I believe the senior high is about 40 years old. Do we have to start planning to replace it also?

I am not one of those uninformed and over emotional people as one of the letter writers recently stated, nor do I have a private agenda.

Keep this valuable asset in the community and keep maintaining it and the grounds around it."

"Marshfield School Board on Thursday approved a response letter to a local citizen who has alleged the school district isn’t following its policies related to competitive bidding..."

Headline to this article reads: "Marshfield School District Repsonds to Concerned Citizen."

This has to be one of the most misleading headlines this paper has ever printed. I was at this meeting and the concerned citizens were not allowed to comment, much less hear what was written in the letter. This includes the citizen that brought forward the complaint.

"...John Nikolai, a town of McMillan resident and owner of a local electric company, has also said district officials haven’t properly followed Wisconsin law regarding release of public records.

An official letter responding to Nikolai was finalized at Thursday night’s school board meeting. The school district provided the letter to the News-Herald Friday morning.

The letter, signed by Board President Tim Deets, said each board member received a packet of information and documentation from Nikolai.

'The board has reviewed the documentation provided and has concluded the district administration has fulfilled the open record requests with all available documents in compliance with the Wisconsin public record laws,' Deets said in the letter. 'The board appreciates your interest in sharing these concerns related to the operations of the Marshfield School District.'

The letter doesn’t specifically address Nikolai’s concerns about bidding of projects.

Nikolai, reached by phone Friday morning, declined to comment since he hadn’t yet seen the letter.
