Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy team up in critically acclaimed and heart-wrenching film BREATHE

2017-11-05T19:00:00.000+08:00

POTATO ON THE GO NEWS FEED (Movie):

From his breakout role as Eduardo Saverin in “The Social Network” to finding himself as Peter Parker in “The Amazing Spider-Man”, Andrew Garfield is back in one of his most dramatic roles to date in “Breathe” co-starring Golden Globe winning actress (“The Crown”) Claire Foy.

The film takes us back to the 1950’s at the height of the Polio outbreak and welcomes us into the life of Robin Cavendish, who after being given only three months to live after being paralyzed from the neck down by polio at age 28, becomes a pioneering advocate for the disabled.

What does one do when an illness takes away your life during its prime? Does one succumb to the sickness or do you continue fighting and hope that somewhere along the way you find a silver lining? Together with his wife Diana, they travel the world with the hopes of transforming the lives of others like him.

Critics could not help but find themselves spreading praises to the beauty of the story and how two of Hollywood’s finest gave their unforgettable performances in this docudrama.

The New York Times finds “Breathe” as the perfect mix of horror, drama and awareness needed for a movie with this kind of theme, “It’s a rebel moment of chillingly authentic horror that seems to have slipped through every bad-feeling filter the filmmakers have installed.”

Andy Serkis who has become a household name with a household face, makes his directorial debut in this film and is seen to be one for the books, Common Sense Media had this to say to the highly talented actor for his boldness in directing “Breathe”.

“In his directorial debut, Serkis keeps the focus tightly on the characters -- and reaps the rewards, especially from Foy's superb performance as Diana.”

Serkis gives you a glimpse of how a British film can be beautifully executed making it highly possible for it to reach the most golden of award ceremonies.

Written by William Nicholson (“Les Misérables”, “Gladiator”) the film co-stars Tom Hollander (“Hanna”), Hugh Bonneville (“Downton Abbey”) and Game of Thrones star Dean-Charles Chapman.

“Breathe” hits theaters near you starting November 22 and is distributed by Pioneer Films.

Atom Araullo joins GMA Network's multi-awarded documentary team via PHILIPPINE SEAS

2017-11-05T01:41:00.000+08:00

POTATO ON THE GO NEWS FEED (TV):

“Life changing” is how Atom Araullo describes his experience filming his first documentary with GMA News and Public Affairs.

Atom returned to the Kapuso Network last September, and immediately began filming for his new documentary Philippine Seas, a special that hopes to uncover the wonders and threats surrounding the Philippines’ marine gems. To really get to know the Philippine seas, Atom went on a rigorous ten-day expedition across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao where he experienced many firsts in his career as a documentary-maker.

In Moalboal, Cebu’s world-famous dive site, Atom witnesses hundreds of thousands of sardines gather in a single ball in a moment that he can only describe as “impressive”. While in nearby Bais, Negros Oriental, he looks into the current situation of dolphins once being caught and slaughtered before becoming the province’s leading tourist attraction. Here, Atom encounters a group of “bow-riders”, dolphins that ride alongside passenger boats.

But not all encounters are so easy. Off the coast of Sarangani, Atom experiences what life is like for tuna fishermen who wait days for a single catch. Under the harsh elements, Atom and his team witness the daily struggles of those who rely on the seas for a living. The most heartbreaking moment is discovering a group of fishermen detained in Indonesia for fishing in foreign waters. Atom talks to Samuel, a fisherman who has not seen his newborn child since being detained in Indonesia. Through the Philippine Seas team, Samuel gets a chance to look at his newborn daughter for the first time.

The dwindling sea catch has forced many small fishermen to cross international boundaries in hopes of feeding their families. Yet international poaching remains a huge problem in the Philippines too. In Palawan, Atom and his team visit the site where sharks were recently confiscated from Vietnamese poachers.

Yet all hope is not lost. In the same seas of Palawan, Atom comes face to face with the biggest sea turtle he has ever seen, proof that there is still something worth saving here. And finally, the team behind Philippine Seas also get the surprise of their lives when a rare and beautiful creature makes an appearance. Once thought to be a mermaid in the olden times, the dugong or sea cow has an almost mythical status in the world of divers and fishermen.

In this special documentary, GMA Public Affairs will also feature the exploration and expedition on the 13-million hectare Philippine Rise. On top of the teeming corals and marine species, it is said that this undersea plateau is potentially a rich source of natural gas and other resources. Is it true that the Philippine Rise can deliver the country from poverty?

Join Atom Araullo and the team behind GMA Public Affairs’ award-winning documentaries for an unforgettable look at the current state of the country’s oceans.

Catch Philippine Seas on November 5, 3:30 p.m. on GMA 7.

DC all-stars join forces in JUSTICE LEAGUE!

2017-11-05T01:21:00.004+08:00

POTATO ON THE GO NEWS FEED (Movie):

After fighting side-by-side across decades of comics, the iconic DC all-stars are going all in to save the world in their first-ever big-screen team-up, Warner Bros. Pictures’ epic action adventure Justice League, hitting Philippine cinemas November 16.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder from a screenplay by Chris Terrio and Joss Whedon, story by Chris Terrio & Zack Snyder, based on characters from DC, Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The film’s producers are Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, with executive producers Jim Rowe, Wesley Coller, Curtis Kanemoto, Chris Terrio and Ben Affleck.

Conceived by comic book writer Gardner Fox and artist Mike Sekowsky, the original incarnation of DC’s legendary League of Heroes – the Justice League of America – teamed up for the first time in 1960 on the pages of The Brave and the Bold #28.

MEET THE LEAGUE...

Batman / Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Inspired by Superman’s sacrifice, the billionaire detective is putting together a team of Super Heroes to combat a force threatening the entire planet. For the first time, Batman understands that he, alone, cannot save the world.

Wonder Woman / Diana Prince (Gal Gadot). The world’s first and foremost female Super Hero, Wonder Woman embodies the unrivaled force and grace of a born warrior with the genuine compassion of a true humanitarian. The first to joinBruce Wayne’s team, Diana’s natural confidence and unmistakable intelligence make her an indispensable ally.

Aquaman / Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa). Half-human, half-Atlantean, Arthur Curry is an outsider who does not feel at home on the Earth’s surface or under the sea. That is, until the world is threatened and he joins Batman’s newly assembled team of heroes.

The Flash / Barry Allen (Ezra Miller). Barry Allen is an excessively energetic student attending Central City College, where he studies criminal justice with the hope of one day freeing his incarcerated father. More than eager to team up with crime fighting icon Batman, Barry’s remarkably quick wit is surpassed only by his ability to move at hyper-speed.

Cyborg / Victor Stone (Ray Fisher). Part man, part machine, Victor Stone is a former star athlete at Gotham City University. After a horrific accident nearly cost him his life, he was saved when his father, scientist Silas Stone, used alien technology to reconstruct his body. In the process, Silas turned Victor into a human computer, organic with biomechatronic body parts. In other words, a Cyborg.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents an Atlas Entertainment/Cruel and Unusual Production, a Zack Snyder Film, Justice League. The film will be released in 3D and 2D in select theaters and IMAX worldwide beginning November 16, 2017, by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. justiceleaguethemovie.net

Alden Richards topbills GMA Network's ALAALA: A MARTIAL LAW SPECIAL

2017-09-17T17:17:00.000+08:00

POTATO ON THE GO NEWS FEED (TV):

On Sunday, (September 17), Kapuso actor Alden Richards takes on his boldest portrayal yet as he depicts the life story of Martial Law activist and award-winning screenwriter Bonifacio Ilagan in GMA Public Affairs’ Alaala: A Martial Law Special.

Around 70,000 people were imprisoned; 34,000 were tortured; 3,240 were killed; and 884 disappeared involuntarily, from which 612 are still missing—more than four decades after former President Ferdinand Marcos declared Martial Law, human rights victims still cry for justice. And those who survived these dark years urge Filipinos to “Never forget.”

On the 45th anniversary of President Marcos’ declaration of Martial Law, GMA offers a special documentary that follows the journey of Boni Ilagan. Named after national hero Andres Bonifacio, Boni takes viewers to his experience from his days as an idealistic youth, upon the declaration of Martial Law and his eventual capture and torture under the hands of the Philippine Constabulary.

His recollections will be put to life in a short film written by Boni himself. A film within a documentary, GMA Public Affairs’ docu team will shadow the short film’s production, showing behind-the-scenes clips. Interviews from personalities who experienced the Martial Law atrocities first hand, as well as historians, will provide the big picture of how it was during the Martial Law era. King Rodrigo, son of late Senator Soc Rodrigo tells us how they took the parliament to the streets and how the opposition fought against the dictator. JC Mijares-Gurango, grandson of Primitivo Mijares reveals the secrets his lolo discovered as propagandist of the Marcos family. He shares the inner workings of the conjugal dictatorship.

Kapuso actor Alden Richards plays the role of the young Boni.

Alden shared the challenges of portraying the young Boni. “Physically, psychologically, emotionally, mentally—mahirap ‘yung role. I’ve never been tortured in any of my roles when I was doing projects with soaps and movies,” Alden said.

Joining Alden in recreating one of the most tumultuous periods in Philippine history are Gina Alajar, Bianca Umali, and Rocco Nacino.

Rocco portrays editor and journalist Pete Lacaba, who, together with Ilagan, also suffered under the hands of the Philippine Constabulary.

The Kapuso actor discovered that he was related to the award-winning writer. “[Sir Pete] came to me, saying, ‘Hey you know what I’m your mom’s second cousin.’ So that night halos hindi ako makatulog. Nag-research ako, I called up my mom and then na-confirm na kamag-anak ko pala si Sir Pete. It makes everything more meaningful at mas malalim para sa akin,” Rocco said.

Don’t miss GMA Public Affairs’ Alaala: A Martial Law Special this Sunday (Sept. 17) on SNBO.

Cannes Filmfest winner THE BEGUILED opens exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas on September 6

2017-09-02T21:44:00.000+08:00

POTATO ON THE GO NEWS FEED (Movie):

Last May, Sofia Coppola was crowned best director by the jury at the 70th International Cannes Film Festival for her atmospheric thriller, The Beguiled. It’s the first time in 56 years that a woman has taken the top honor.

Now, Manila audiences can finally watch Coppola's critically acclaimed gem as The Beguiled opens exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Greenbelt 1 & Trinoma) on September 6, 2017.
Adapted from the novel by Thomas Cullinan, The Beguiled is a sexually charged tale that unfolds during the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school. Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier (Colin Farrell). As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events.

Sofia Coppola is reunited with two of her favorite leading ladies, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning, and directs for the first time Golden Globe Award winner Colin Farrell and Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman. These screen veterans are backed up by an ensemble of teenage actresses who are making their marks in the industry.

Laced with elements of a taut psychological thriller, the tale unfolds in 1864 – three years into the Civil War – and is tightly concentrated in and around a Southern girls’ boarding school in Virginia where a wounded Union soldier takes refuge.

Intrigued by the story of the 1971 film The Beguiled, directed by Don Siegel and starring Clint Eastwood, Coppola wanted to explore the theme of women isolated during the Civil War. In writing the screenplay adaptation, she went back to the book to tell the story from the female characters’ perspective for her film.

“So The Beguiled would be a reinterpretation,” she says, “the premise is loaded because power dynamics between men and women are universal. There’s always a mystery between men and women.”

The women’s wartime lives at the school are, as the story begins, heavily ritualized. Elle Fanning notes, “They get up, they work in the garden at a certain time. There’s prayer, playing music, French lessons, dinner and bedtime. Until, everything gets shaken up; they take in the wounded soldier, and selfishness sets in.”

Producer Anne Ross concludes, “It’s rare that you see a story about women during wartime, and about how they interact with each other; in The Beguiled, Sofia is exploring both their camaraderie and their isolation.”

The Beguiled is distributed in the Philippines by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

Charlize Theron and Javier Bardem top bill THE LAST FACE - Exclusive at Ayala Malls Cinemas

2017-09-02T21:27:00.000+08:00

POTATO ON THE GO NEWS FEED (Movie):

For decades politics, power and corrupt governments scrambling for mineral rich territories,
have given rise to civil war in Africa and created conflict zones where the scale of destruction is now
unimaginable. Hundreds and thousands of people have been slaughtered in military coups, are emotionally destroyed through rape and gender-based violence, and have been victims of unspeakable human rights violations. The civilians who have managed to survive the decimation have been forced to flee to safety from rebels sewing terror in their regions, making up more than 9 million refugees and internally displaced people without resources to form a new life. It is a suffering that knows no end. The motion picture “The Last Face” is brought to the screen by a group of filmmakers and actors who coincidentally all happen to be humanitarians in their own right and unquestionably this resonance was their motivation to work with very the difficult material.

“The Last Face” centers around a love affair between Dr. Wren Petersen (Academy Award®
winner, Charlize Theron), the director of an international aid organization and Dr. Miguel Leon (Academy Award® winner, Javier Bardem), a relief-aid doctor.

Set against the devastating backdrop of war-torn Liberia, Miguel and Wren must find a way to keep their relationship alive in extraordinarily difficult conditions battling their mutual passion for the value of life matched by the intensity of their diametrically opposed opinions on how best to solve the conflict that surrounds them. Directed by Two-time Academy Award® winner Sean Penn, The Last Face also stars Primetime Emmy® nominee Jared Harris, and celebrated French actors Jean Reno and Adèle Exarchopoulos.

An activist himself and champion of refugees, Javier Bardem co-produced and starred in “Sons of the Clouds: The Last Colony,” a film documenting how the colonization of the Western Sahara has left nearly 200,000 people living in refugee camps. Palmieri shares that Bardem had always been involved, off and on, with Erin when she was going to direct, “it was a passion project for Javier, and when it was coming together he contacted me.”

The development process of getting the picture off the ground was just 13 months, and in the
meantime Javier Bardem, already on board, was speaking about actors to play opposite him in the role of Wren. First and foremost on the list happened to be Charlize Theron, who as well as being an
extraordinary actor, is also a humanitarian who runs her own NGO that helps AIDs orphans in South
Africa. She was a perfect contrast, both physically and emotionally to Javier.

Experience the emotional story of hope when “The Last Face” opens exclusively in Ayala Malls Cinemas starting September 13.

IT knows your greatest fear! (Opens September 7)

2017-09-02T00:24:00.000+08:00

POTATO ON THE GO NEWS FEED (Movie):

Whether it’s a monster under your bed, what lies in the dark, or a creature lurking in the shadows, there is no escaping your greatest fear in New Line Cinema's upcoming horror thriller IT (in Philippine cinemas September 7).

Bringing Stephen King’s seminal bestseller to the big screen for the first time, acclaimed director Andy Muschietti says, “Fear is universal; it’s something we can all relate to. And what could be more terrifying than something that doesn’t just attack you, but attacks you with what frightens you most?"

The enigmatically short title refers to the story’s central villain, an ancient shapeshifter that takes the form of its victims’ deepest fears and comes out of hibernation every 27 years to feed on the most vulnerable residents of Derry, Maine: the children. This time, however, seven young outcasts, who dub themselves “the Losers’ Club,” will band together to do battle with the mysterious being they call by the all-encompassing pronoun: It. But It goes by another name…a name that has become iconic in the annals of horror: Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

First published in 1986, IT became an instant classic and the top-selling book of that year. Captivating readers for more than three decades, the perennial bestseller continues to be counted among the best and most influential works of the undisputed master of literary horror, inspiring numerous film and television projects in the years that have followed.

That was certainly true for the filmmaker at the helm of the movie. “I am a big fan of Stephen King, who was my favorite author growing up, so IT was a dream project for me,” Muschietti states. “As someone who loves making scary movies, I have always been fascinated by fear, and probably the time when you’re the most terrified is when you’re a child watching your first horror movie. It’s a feeling you won’t have again for the rest of your life, so it’s become a bit of a chimeric quest for me to bring that sensation back. That helps me create because I believe you can only scare other people with what scares you, too.”

There is another layer to the story that is trademark Stephen King. There is arguably no writer who is better at juxtaposing unmitigated horror with the experience of growing up—and perhaps never more perfectly than in the tender coming-of-age tale at the heart of IT. Producer Seth Grahame-Smith emphasizes, “We knew from the very beginning of this process that IT was more than just a horror story and the movie had to reflect the different tones of the novel. It’s set at a certain time in these young characters’ lives when they are truly coming of age, so we wanted the film to capture the charm of those character-driven moments, but in turn be utterly petrifying.”

Andy Muschietti’s sister and creative partner, producer Barbara Muschietti, credits the screenwriters with finding that balance. “Chase Palmer, Cary Fukunaga and Gary Dauberman were able to capture the touching facets of friendship between the Losers’ Club and even a brush with the first love of adolescence. But make no mistake: you are going to be scared,” she smiles.

The terror of “IT” is embodied in the malevolent clown, Pennywise—devourer of children, connoisseur of fear. Bill Skarsgård, who took on the villainous role, says, “I was very familiar with IT and the character of Pennywise growing up. The way I look at it, he needs children to believe in what they’re seeing and to be afraid in order to consume them because fear seasons the flesh. To me, as a kid and even now, that is the most frightening concept ever.”

Representing the Losers’ Club, actor Jaeden Lieberher says, “It’s definitely about overcoming fear because if the kids aren’t afraid of Pennywise, they have a chance of beating him. But it’s really scary watching all the bad things that are happening to them.”

Lieberher plays the de facto leader of the group, Bill Denbrough. The ensemble of young actors rounding out the club are: Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier; Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh; Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie Kaspbrak; Wyatt Oleff as Stanley Uris; Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben Hanscom; and Chosen Jacobs as Mike Hanlon.

A presentation of New Line Cinema, IT will be released worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Entertainment Company.

POTATO ON THE GO NEWS FEED (Movie):

The concept for Kingsman was born when Vaughn was working with Mark Millar, the comic book author, on set for “Kick-Ass” back in 2009. Kingsman is an elite organization of operatives working outside of the government. Martial in style, they are an altruistic unit that gets things done.

This year’s hotly anticipated sequel, “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” raises the stakes from the worldwide surprise hit original film “Kingsman: The Secret Service” where the spy agency now suffers from a devastating attack that almost killed all of its members. After the attack, the surviving members of the Kingsman organization forms alliance with their United States counterpart, the Statesman to stop a common enemy.

In “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” Eggsy (Egerton) together with Merlin (Strong) and survivor Harry Hart (Firth) travel to America to meet the Statesman – leader Champagne (Bridges), Tequila (Tatum), Ginger Ale (Berry) and recruit them to help them save the world but the spies have seemingly created an enemy in Poppy (Moore), an charming terrorist who takes pleasure in world domination.

Newcomer Fionn Whitehead stars in Christopher Nolan's epic action thriller DUNKIRK

2017-07-09T00:19:00.000+08:00

POTATON ON THE GO NEWS FEED (Movie):

Up and coming actor Fionn Whitehead gets swept up from anonymity to imminent Hollywood stardom as he plays the lead role in Christopher Nolan's new epic action thriller Dunkirk (in Philippine cinemas July 20).

As a teenage soldier named Tommy, Whitehead serves as the audiences’ eyes and ears and gives the sweeping story its emotional center of gravity.

“You kind of experience this world through him,” says the 20-year-old Whitehead. “These young and inexperienced soldiers are thrown into this dire, brutal situation, and you follow Tommy on this journey as he tries to get home.”

Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.

Find more about Dunkirk and Fionn Whitehead in the following interview:

Question: What can you tell us about your characters and where they fit into the story of Dunkirk?

Fionn Whitehead: My character is called Tommy. He’s an average Joe-type of soldier, one of the thousands on the beach or lined up on the Mole, which is this jetty where they wait to board one of the ships coming across. He’s very young, doesn’t have any experience, and probably didn’t know what he was signing up for.

Q: What was it like meeting writer/director Christopher Nolan for the first time, and what impressed you the most about working with him?

FW: Everyone knows that he’s the man. I think the thing that makes Chris so unique is that he has his own vision for this piece of art he’s creating and he’s completely in charge, which is an amazing thing for an actor. It gives you a bit more breathing room because you’re not trying to tend to anyone else’s needs.
Q: How did it feel when you first arrived on the set and saw the scope of the production?
FW: The whole first week I was on the beach made me realize the sheer magnitude of the operation – thousands of extras running around, explosions going off, a real Spitfire flying over your head. It was definitely epic, but there’s no other way to do justice to the real Dunkirk evacuation. Being on that beach and standing on the Mole that they built, it was like walking through documentary footage. I just felt really lucky to be part of the project.

Q: What was the toughest aspect of the shoot?

FW: The most physically challenging aspect was probably being in the water. We spent a whole day shooting in the sea, on and off.

Q: How much did you know about the events at Dunkirk prior to becoming involved in this project?

FW: In England, the Second World War is hammered home from a young age, and I think it desensitizes you to it a bit. As you grow up, Dunkirk becomes just another event in history, as opposed to a real-life experience for these poor lads who were younger than me, some of them. So, making this movie on the actual beach where it happened, and going to the museum and seeing footage of the real Dunkirk evacuation definitely brings it home and makes it real.

Q: Do you have a feeling of responsibility, given that this film is telling the story of a real event that happened in 1940?

FW: Definitely. I think that one of the best things, hopefully, about Dunkirk, is that it’s really trying to put you in that situation so that you feel what it must have been like to be there and appreciate what those people went through and how brutal and terrifying it was. I hope people take from this that we need to never go back to a place where something like Dunkirk can happen.

Dunkirk is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

New Adventure in J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World is Underway!

2017-07-07T01:22:00.001+08:00

POTATO ON THE GO NEWS FEED (Movie):

Principal photography starts today, Monday, July 3, on an all new adventure set in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, the second of five films in the series that began with “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” The as-yet-untitled film is being directed by David Yates.

Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) stars once more as wizarding world magizoologist Newt Scamander; alongside Katherine Waterston as Auror Tina Goldstein; Alison Sudol as her sister, Queenie Goldstein; and Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, the only No-Maj in the foursome.

Oscar nominee Johnny Depp (the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, “Finding Neverland”), who was revealed as Gellert Grindelwald, stars as the powerful Dark wizard in the film. Oscar nominee Jude Law (“The Talented Mr. Ripley,” “Cold Mountain”) takes on the role of Albus Dumbledore—one of J.K. Rowling’s most beloved characters—decades before he becomes Headmaster at Hogwarts. Credence, whose fate was unknown at the end of the first film, makes a mysterious return, played again by Ezra Miller. Zoë Kravitz plays Leta Lestrange, who was glimpsed in a photo as a woman from Newt’s past; Callum Turner is the famed Theseus Scamander, a war hero and Auror, who also happens to be Newt’s older brother; and Claudia Kim plays a young woman we first meet as a featured attraction at a wizarding circus.

J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for the film, which opens in 1927, a few months after Newt helped to unveil and capture the infamous Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. However, as he promised he would, Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause—elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander. The adventure reunites Newt with Tina, Queenie and Jacob, but his mission will also test their loyalties as they face new perils in an increasingly dangerous and divided wizarding world.

The film expands the wizarding world, moving from New York to London and on to Paris. There are also some surprising nods to the Harry Potter stories that will delight fans of the books and film series.

The ensemble cast also includes William Nadylam as a wizard named Yusuf Kama; Ingvar Sigurdsson as a bounty hunter named Grimmson; Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Skender, who runs the wizarding circus; and Kevin Guthrie as Abernathy, whom we met as Tina and Queenie’s boss at MACUSA (Magical Congress of the USA).

David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram are producing the film, with Tim Lewis, Neil Blair, Rick Senat and Danny Cohen serving as executive producers.

Collaborating with Yates behind the scenes, the creative teams are led by Oscar-winning director of photography Philippe Rousselot (“A River Runs Through It”); three-time Oscar-winning production designer Stuart Craig (“The English Patient,” “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Gandhi,” the “Harry Potter” films), three-time BAFTA Award-winning editor Mark Day (the last four “Harry Potter” films, “State of Play”), four-time Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” “Chicago,” “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Alice in Wonderland”), Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Tim Burke (“Gladiator,” the “Harry Potter” films), and Oscar-nominated visual effects supervisor Christian Manz (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1”).

The new adventure is being filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, which has been the cinematic home of the Wizarding World since the first “Harry Potter” film.

Slated for release on November 16, 2018, the film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
