Waiting is a terrible thing. It can drain the soul of hope. That is where I am today. Not everyday, but today, this hour, this time, this second. Waiting has a life. At first it is filled with hope and anticipation that is really a good thing. Spirits are high. That life is buoyant and might even add some pep to your step. Time begins to pass and waiting changes. It becomes first a lesson. A lesson in patience and endurance. The life of waiting changes to something hard and in the end becomes a force that will cut to the bone. First we are patient or so we tell ourselves and we will ourselves to wait. We tell ourselves waiting is good. It will all work out in the end. We tell ourselves this and even convince ourselves of this. So waiting will become just a little bit tolerable. More tolerable. We wait. We wait. We wait some more. Then things start to happen. Things begin to come apart and then the waiting becomes a thing that can be our undoing. We fix things. We rob peter to pay paul. We make adjustments. We might even have to give up things we have cherished for so long. Things that are dear and have much meaning. It will take will and much thinking about them to let them go. But they do. We let them go. Just a few things ago. It is the sacrifice we make to waiting. We give them up and hope that we can somehow get them back. Some things we cannot get back. We hope. We wait. Then to much time has passed we begin to wonder. Wonder what has happened. Some things that are in the mix are not because of our doing. It may be due to the meanness of others. Things they did in the past increase the wait. Some of the waiting is not your fault and cannot be undone. Cruel circumstances add to the wait. Hope begins to wane. So many things are now lacking. So many things are precarious. Life on the edge. Life on the edge is not good. Waiting becomes a terrible, crushing thing. It takes my breath away. It runs away sleep. The days become filled with exhaustion and worry. Waiting weighs on my soul. Much like the albatross, it is always there. You can never really be away from it. So....no matter how I try to move things along, things move at their own pace. Trying to make things happen to stop the waiting sometimes works but not often. After a while it becomes so hard. Hard to keep smiling when all you want to do is cry. Hard to keep going to you are so tired of trying to keep the plates in the air. They are beginning to fall and break with no repair. Hard to keep waiting. Hard to keep living. Waiting. Waiting is hard. Waiting is tiring. Waiting breaks the soul. Hope flees into the darkness. It peeks out from time to time only to run and hide deeper once it see waiting controlling everything. Waiting. Waiting is death from within.

With the new laws many people were recently cut off of from the extended unemployment benefits last month. I was in that group of people. Upon reflection it seems a bit freeing in away. Scary as hell, too. What to do? That little check was a bit of sanity in my very unstable world. Now it is gone. Now I will no longer being haunting the halls of the local workforce office. I guess I am now going to enter the "take anything mode." Life can sure be hard at times. Hard and scary.

With the rush of technology changing everything, the world of games has changed as well. Our phones do so much these days. Are they really phones? More like computers that we use very little to talk on. I know. When I look at my child she is forever on her phone, either texting or playing games. Computer games sure have gone through a transformation from the Nintendo 64's of long ago. They are now with us on our phones. Games are on line, on our pc's, on our phones. Everywhere. They can be great stress relievers or just something to pass the time as we wait.

Easter is not the same as it was when I was a child. It is not as special now and does not seem to have the same emphasis that it did when I was little. When I was little Easter was patent leather shoes and frilly dresses, white gloves and an Easter speech. The Easter speech was one that your Sunday school teacher gave you about a month before and your mom and dad practiced it over and over with you until you knew it.

Easter was special and I remember shopping for my dresses. It was an event. Going to Sears and spending hours trying on dresses to find the exact one. And the shoes were always black or white patent leather. There would be church in the morning and in the afternoon we would all come back for the Easter program. The kids would all say their speeches or at least try too. Some were so scared they could not talk. It was a good time with lots of candy and eggs after given to us by our Sunday school teachers.

That was the time when gloves were still worn to church. I wore them for many years as a child and young adult. That was the Easter of yore.

Easter now is not so special. No one says Easter speeches anymore and I have even seen people dressed in jeans of khakis in church. Those white gloves have long gone by the wayside. I was lucky. Some of the Easter that I knew was still around when my daughter was small. I did get to dress her up in patent leather shoes and she did have an Easter speech to say for about 5 years. So that was good. She even wore the gloves. They were hard to find but I made sure she had gloves for Easter.

The Eater of yore was of a simpler time. Values were more clear and family oriented. Church was at the center. Last year was the last year I made an attempt to buy the "Easter outfit" for me and my child. She is 18 now and we both had nice a nice suit or a dress we wore. I miss the Easter of yore. Easter was better then.

I have not spoken about Trayvon yet because the whole world seems to be. Now I finally decided to put in my two cents. After looking and reading all that has been out so far, it seems that this is a travesty. A young teen was killed just because he "looked" like he did not belong in the gated community in which he in fact lived! Why? A Hispanic self appointed rentacop was trigger happy. He chased this young man when he was told not to and to stay in his car. The self defense story he is claiming is clearly full of holes. The voice analysis has been done and it was Trayvon yelling for help and not Zimmerman. He needs to be arrested soon for murder because that is what it was. Trayvon was racially profiled by Zimmerman.

It is 2012 and racism is alive and well in America. I do not see that changing. I have a child and it is sad that we still have to teach kids about racism. That is still exists and to be careful because if you are african american and end up in the wrong place with the wrong people, it will be the end of your life.

Why do some have to be critical? I take a lot of pictures and I was at a wedding this past weekend when the mother of the groom approached me and said...."I can't trust you with a camera." I had no idea what she meant by that. She has always been one who is camera shy or there is always something wrong with her pictures. She has complained enough over the years that I know it is her with self image issues. It is not me.

Nevertheless, when she approached me with that at the wedding when I was taking pictures just for me, I was taken aback. She then went on to say that I post crap pictures and walked away. She is talking about pictures that I take with my camera for me that I post on my FB page. Crazy. I immediately told her I DO NOT. She walked away. I had to remind myself that it was her and not me. My feeling is to never post a picture that makes me or someone else appear in a bad light. I would not want anyone to do that to me, so I would not do that to anyone else.

The thing I need to remember is that everyone has an opinion. It does not make it true.

One of my FB friends posted this and I bet it is true for many. In my case I have been reading but now mainly on my kindle. I have not stopped reading but I do find that it is taking me a lot longer to finish books. I am distracted by FB, Twitter, Tumblr, Foodspotting, Foursquare. You name it! I am a social media addict.

I still have a child at home so I do think it is still critical that children see their parent reading. I have been reading to and with my child since she was an infant. Now she does not read so much for pleasure now. Most of her reading is just for school. I do encourage her to read books just for fun, but her time seems limited. She too, is caught up in social media. As a parent I do encourage her to "unplug." Books and reading books as we used to when we were kids is soon becoming a thing of the past.

Today I watched the season finale of LOST again. What an emotional series. I know I did not do this much crying the first time I saw it. I was too confused. Now that I have seen the entire series again, I have been able to see many things and pick up on nuances I had missed before.

What is key is watching the bonus extras at the end of the dvd of the finale. Everyone was resolved except for Walt on the tv series. In the extras Ben and Hugo go to get him and he does go back to the island. He ends up in the same mental institution Hugo went into. Walt goes back to the island to help his father Michael. Hurley makes mention that Walt will be the future protector of the island. LOST! Love it!

I do not know about other parents but I have a great teenager. I want to say that I take 100% credit for it. I think I can claim most...it was how I raised her. She is a delight to be around. Except for the occasional "clean up your room" hassle, we really have not had any issues at all. She is a young women who is thoughtful and kind with a good head on her shoulders. She is a blessing. Spending time with her is a joy. I know that time with her is limited because she will be flying the coop all too soon.

She will be making her way out into the world. I just hope I have equipped her with all she needs. I think about that alot. Did I do all that I could to teach her the skills she needed to make it in the world? Did I do it right? Can I still do more? I guess parents do second guess themselves at times. Whatever I missed hopefully she will be able to figure out herself. A parents dream is for their kids to do well. I know mine will. With God's grace.

I remember some years ago when we would have casual Fridays in the office I used to work in. Some people would take it to the limit. We were in a work setting where we could never wear jeans...even on casual Fridays.
I remember one co worker in particular. She was one who tended to put on airs and I remember she was one of the crowd who played tennis. She would come in to work on casual Friday with a white tennis skirt on that barely covered her butt cheeks. She would accompany that with a nice tennis sweater and some nice flats. It just looked like she had on a extreme mini skirt.
I guess it really would not cause any friction BUT...we had some Mormons in the office and they complained about her attire. She would tell me that she was called into the head bosses office and told that her skirt was too short for the office. The rest of us would get a memo about what casual Friday meant in our office. We did not even had it every Friday..it was something the office allowed once a month.
After that coworker wearing her miniskirts several times people got picky and began to tell on each other if they thought that their clothing was not right for casual Friday. I wore a denim skirt...long to my knees and I got in trouble for that. I accompanied it with a blouse, a blazer and heels. Another time I wore a skort...with flaps so you could not see that it was a skort. It looked like a pleated skirt. I had someone ask me if it was a skirt of skort. I said skort....I got in trouble for that. We all got an email. It was not just me...others were called out for various other violations of the invisible dress code as well.
Well. We soon realized that it was four months and we had not had a casual Friday. Management stopped it due to all the tattling and so called violations of the dress code. Petty and ridiculous how small minded some can be!

Just call me a hater, I guess. But every time I see or hear Nicki Minaj, the only thing that comes to mind is FREAK! And not in a good way. I recall that when she first came on the music scene there was some sort fo feud between her and Lil' Kim. She was in the same category. Now that that is over...I guess it is...Nicki appears to have come into her own. Own sense of freakville. I don't know...it could be all the weird hair. All those different colors. I do not have a problem with colored hair. Just odd colored hair on her. It looks SO very unnatural. Everything about her appears to be fake to me.

And let's not forget that very crazy, demon show slash exorcism she put on for the Superbowl. What the hell was that? That was weirdness of the chart. The one line in her current song that plays on the radio now that just gets me is," i want you to just father my young." What sort of message is that sending out to young girls. THE WRONG ONE! Women of color already have the black man who does nothing but father their young...no support, no child support and they for the most part are not taking part in the raising of any children. Young women today need to hear a much better and more positive message than that.

I am just happy that I have the power to change my radio station with the touch of a dial. Sorry Nicki, this is one parent who does not like your message to young girls.

Clutter and Decluttering

You never know how much "stuff" you have until you have to move. We moved several years ago from a place we had lived in for 14 years. On My! It took about 3 weeks to get everything boxed up. First I was sorting and throwing out as I went along but as time drew short I realized I would have to stop that and just throw things into boxes. At the end I literally just had to throw things into boxes. That was about 4 years ago and I am still sorting through boxes and giving things to Good Will and throwing things out. I have gotten rid of most of the clutter. The remaining is in a storage unit that I pay for monthly. I really want to get rid of that unit due to the monthly expense. Plus I just want to get rid of the "stuff". Even though the unit has been a monthly expense it has been a life saver of sorts.

Snapshots In My Time...Of My Time.....Hauntings.

LOST! I have been checking out the entire season from the library and this is actually the 2nd time I have watched it. I have seen so many little details I missed the first time around. The story line is just incredible and I must say the writers were incredible. I am still in awe with every episode. Some of the story line is so sad. Like when the bomb went off at the freighter and Jin was not able to make it to the helicopter. Sun's screaming is just heartbreaking. I still have yet to figure out if they are all really dead and did they REALLY make it off the island or did all this happen in their consciousness as they were dying as the plane crashed?? Kind of like the movie Jacob's Ladder. When I get the last season I will have to reassess. Right now, I just know it is a series that I will never get tired of watching.
