Hope you all had a great Holiday season.

The year is looking better for us, we've got some gigs booked throughout the year and I'm now playing a lot more with Wanda King so plenty of chances to come see a show. Wanda is playing a lot of gigs at the House of Blues in Dallas as well as Houston, we play in the Restaurant and it's a really nice atmosphere and the food is really good.

Slim has lots of dates at the Hole in Wall this year (our favorite) as well as the usual places you normally see us.

Looking forward to seeing you in 09'

Peace,
Joey Love

Happy Thanksgiving

Try JibJab Sendables® eCards today!

This Sat. We had a great show but all the events surrounding it was quite interesting...

We left on Friday to get there early for several reasons, one we had a bass player that hasn't played with us so we wanted to get their early to have a rehearsal, and the venue wanted us to load in Sat. at noon... We had been given information that there would be a place that we could rehearse Friday night, their wasn't so we went out and saw Texas Johnny Boy who was playing sax & harp with us at the HOB the next night. Texas JB had Milton Hopkins on guitar who played in BB King's band for quite some time, then we headed over to a Houston Blues Club "The Big Easy" and caught a set of Texas Johnny Brown... TX JB is an 84 yr old guitar player who has played with Ruth Brown, Bobby Blue Bland, Junior Parker and many others... then it was back to the hotel to sleep before our 12 noon load in...

Sat. - I woke up earlier and got all my gear together and ready for our 12 noon load in. Wanda called me about 11 to say that we couldn't load in at noon because all the streets were blocked off for a biker event that the HOB & Dan Akroyd were putting on and that our load in was pushed to 3:30pm, got together with Slim, Lisa and Wanda about 1pm and we decided to grab a bite a IHOP... Short Stack of pancakes, hash browns and a tall orange juice... yummy !!!! We departed the hotel at 3:30pm and headed to HOB, thanks to my trusty Garmin GPS got there with no problems and right to the loading area... we were greeted by friendly staff who helped us with our gear and got to the stage area with no troubles... the Blues Brothers were on stage performing for all the bikers that were part of the Fund Raiser they held that day so got to see some of the show... I searched for our dressing room (we were suppose to have one) but nowhere to be found, asked the production mgr. and he tells us we don't have one, great ! After the Blues Brothers leave the venue we are told we can use one of the dressing rooms... sweet... there was all the food we could possibly eat, drinks, desserts etc... we made ourselves at home and waited for sound check.

I bolted downstairs to move my car from the loading area but was called to come back upstairs for our sound check, I hauled ass up the stairs, seems like about 500 steps to get up to the stage and waited almost 2 hours before they actually did a sound check on us, then we were instructed to clear the stage of our pedals, guitars etc... to get ready for the opening band (not to be named). The House of Blues waited and waited and waited for the opening band to show up... about an hour or so before the opening band was suppose to be their the Production Mgr. made the call to have us open the show, and we were suppose to be ready to go on in a hour and be prepared to play longer... so back to the drawing board to redo our set list and get ourselves in the zone ready to play... 15 min. before showtime and I realize that my guitars, pedalboard aren't onstage... I scramble to get everything ready and also realize the sound crew didn't have mics on our amps because they took them off waiting for the opener who didn't show... so, they scramble to get everything hooked up again...

Showtime, I ask if anyone is going to announce us, the prod. mgr say no just go out and start playing... as were walking on stage and plugging in an announcer says ladies and gentlemen the Wanda King Blues Band... huh ? Normally an announcement is made when the band is set and ready and we start playing right after the introduction, a bit of confusion but the crowd was trickling in because the doors just opened so not that critical. We start playing and the venue is filling up fast, being that we took the early slot the balcony is still only 1/3 full and not near to capacity. Our show goes very well being that we had no rehearsal but we're all professionals so we managed to pull it off... the lower general admission area is packed out and the balcony is still not fully seated.

After our performance a Gospel Choir hits the stage and lulls the crowd to sleep, by the time the Blues Brothers hit the stage the venue is packed to the gills... the band is really good and the show is great... I just hung back stage and watched from the side lines. I had the opportunity to possibly meet Dan Akroyd and Jim Belushi but the time wasn't right, they were in the zone of their show and I witnessed a few people who got in their personal space and it wasn't pretty... they were asked to leave so I kept my mouth shut and just enjoyed the experience. I was standing by Wanda when Dan Akroyd danced off the stage towards her and asked her to come out and sing a song... she came out on the finale tune "Money" (Barrett Strong/Beatles)...

Whew... the night is over, I wait for the sound crew to load out because they are flying around with all the equipment, I get out of the venue around 1am and head back to the hotel... what a day....

Just wanted to share my story, some of you might think the music business is all fun and games, it isn't... the only part that's fun is when we play and even sometimes that isn't fun either but that's an entirely different story.

House of Blues - Opening for the Blues Brothers

Opening for the Blues Brothers

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_3hLnpwzFdkc/SOUBWpCle8I/AAAAAAAAEF4/_0tB43vVrX4/s200/wandak-198.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5252606028883000258" />
The Wanda King Blues Band, (which I perform in from time to time) will be opening for The Blues Brothers (Dan Akroyd, Jim Belushi) at the new House of Blues in Houston,TX on Sat. I think it's kind of a scam because they know your A/C is not working and I think they want me to call someone else to service my unit so they won't have to pay the expense of getting mine fixed, so they make it extremely inconvenient. Not really customer service in my opinion !

Great news is that my downstairs is separate and that unit is cooling so looks like we'll be sleeping on couch tonight and tomorrow, no biggie... just wish companies would stand behind their product rather than make it a hassle especially when it's 105 outside and they know your A/C isn't working..

Enough ranting, time to cool off

jl

Oh It's Time For Some Campaining

Send a JibJab Sendables® eCard Today!

Visit to Wink,TX

Several years back I visited Wink,TX in search of a huge sinkhole and and to visit a museum of a famous musician that lived there... here's a short documentary of our adventure...

Giggin' with Wanda King

FYI... When our sales guy came back from his manager offering us only a rebate on a full cash payment. Instantly my wife and I became highly upset and felt insulted. I don't blame the sales guy who was actually yound and just trying to make a living to have made this offer, he was just following orders but it was still just unbelievable. To top it off after we got mad and said we weren't paying that they tried to pull some bullshit double team on us by bringing the Finance Mgr. out to explain to us why they couldn't sell the car any cheaper... that pissed us off even more and we walked out finding the Finance Mgr. screaming at us as we walked away telling us he can show us numbers and prove his point, he wouldn't give up, it was almost pathetic and the worst sales experience I've ever been a part of.

Needless to say after the Finance Mgr. rants we got in my truck and drove away... all I can say is buyer beware of how Central Kia of Lewisville does business.... what's great is they told us at the end (right before we drove off) they would drop the price another $1000 and when I got home found a different dealership willing to sell the same car for quite a bit less. (hmmmm and they had no room to work ?)

NOW THE GOOD....
----------------
CARMAX, CARMAX, CARMAX.... what a great experience from the way we were greeted, to the entire process of how they do business.

First my wife and I found the car online on their website (www.carmax.com), it was used, priced very well and still had a lot left on the manufacturer's warranty plus Carmax has a 30 day warranty and a 5 day return for any reason policy. I called up the dealership in Garland to see if they still had the car on the lot, yes Mr. Levine if you'd like to test drive it we'll pull it up front and have it waiting for when you arrive... we arrived, we were greeted with a friendly smile and how can I help you, asked for the sales agent we talked to... Mr. Levine we have the car waiting let's go look at it. We liked our sales agent, young, not pushy or full of any crap, he was just chillin letting us do "our" thing. We drove the car, loved it, went to his office, fill out some paperwork, signed a check (No Haggle Pricing!!!!)... and after the car was detailed, and filled up with gas we walked to our car and we were on our way. What a great experience and something that everyone should keep in mind when looking for a car... I know when it comes time again for car shopping my wife and I definitely will have Carmax at top of our list !

Happy St. Patty's Day !!!

Going Small....

Well for the first time in a long long time I'm trading in the big gas hog and moving to something much more fuel efficient... There is a pill for everything... probably a pill for blogging anxiety LOL... They are getting away with murder while a easy going person with a small bag of weed is getting fined and jail time ? Just think about the lawyer commercials you've seen about have you taken "xxxxx", call me now since you are entitled to a settlement. Drugs are obviously being released without long term studies.. are our bodies really designed to handle these medications ??? Willie Nelson has been smoking weed for years and years... don't ever hear about him getting sick, or killing a spree of people like at Virginia Tech. That guy was on anti depressants, the same meds that several mass killers have taken... what the #(*#($* is up with that. Doesn't that make you really wonder what the hell is going on ?

Drug companies are making billions of dollars coming up with meds for Bloating to Anal Warts... They along with physicians whom prescribe these meds are poisoning our society. I will agree that some drugs are helpful as a last resort but most conditions are brought on by diet and lack of exercise.

The fast food and food companies in general are responsible for a great deal of the health problems that exist in society today. If we went back to a time when we ate more whole and natural foods (home cooked) rather than something that comes from a package or a fryer then we can stop making drug companies, fast food eateries and doctors richer and richer.

I'm aware that most of us just don't have time to shop and cook, we could make time but we choose not too. Slowly there's a trend for healthier fast choices but with a little effort it would probably surprise you how easy it is to prepare a good wholesome meal at home, save money by not eating out and put some healthy natural ingredients into your body which "G-D" designed it to digest. Get out and walk or ride a bike to the corner store instead of driving... one you'll save gas, won't pollute the environment and you'll get some exercise.

I have Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), which in the long run will deteriorate the function of my kidneys, you can get down to 10% of the function of your Kidney's before you'll notice that something is wrong... at least I caught the condition early but I have to go for check ups to monitor the condition and years ago decided upon a doctors request to go on a low protein "vegetarian" diet.

Eating meat (or should I say dead animal flesh) excuse the fact that I'm really saying what it is... puts a great deal of stress on your kidneys to break down the proteins (amino acids) that your body needs. Everybody asks about how I get my protein... it's a myth... most of today's society eats way beyond their daily protein intake therefore putting stress on your digestive system and colon... "THEREFORE EVENTUALLY CAUSING DISEASE"... Do you really know how much protein your body needs... "click here" and find out. I can eat a variety of wholesome delicious food and without even trying and I can meet my daily protein number, of course I'm always trying to stay below that, keep my weight down, exercise and take high blood pressure medicine (hypertension is a factor of PKD) to prolong the life of my diseased kidneys.

All I'm saying is that I want everyone to open their eyes and stop and think about what is really going on. It's not okay for your doctor to push drugs on you unless it's absolutely the last resort, it's not okay for drug companies to advertise on TV and push drugs to our society (remember the days when there were cigarette commercials on TV), and it's not okay for fast food and food companies in general to put ingredients into food that our bodies were not intended to digest. STOP and THINK!!! Do a little something everyday to make a slight change in your life and spread that change to people around you, it's not hard and we'll all be healthier and happier.

I have another topic which I'll discuss in the future which is about the stress put on our environment by the raising and production of animal products for human consumption, you won't believe the "damage" that is being done !

Peace & Love
Joey L.

The Bluebird Sat May 5th and more...

First off... I'm real disappointed with our Mavs. It's a mystery to me how they could dominate the series only to fall apart at the end... hmmmmmmmm seems like a repeat from last year. No confidence, no energy and no MVP. As with a lot of fans we invested a lot of time and money into our team and for them to perform like they did calls for some changes for next year. It's going to be interesting to see what happens.

On another note... we finally have a gig !!!!!

SAT.
