SCHOLARSHIP FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDY IN AUSTRALIA
Applications are invited from Nigerian nationals who wish to undertake postgraduate studies at Masters level at Australian Universities commencing in January 2012. The Scholarships are funded by the Austrailian Government and managed by the Austrian Agency for Internation Development (AusAid).
Scholarships cover airfares, tuition fees, medical cover and a living allowance in Australia. Female applicants and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Study in Australia is subject to the successful applicant being issued with visa by the Australian Department of Immigration & Citizenship (DIAC). As part of the visa application process, immigration authorities require candidates to undergo a full medical examination.
The priority fields of study for the scholarships are:
Education
Public Policy (including public sector reform, trade and diplomacy)
Applications will be considered from candidates meeting the following requirements:
Possess, as a minimum, a 4 year Bsc degree
Be currently employed by and parastatal agencies) in Nigeria

African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), a project of the CGIAR Gender & Diversity Program, is now accepting applications for its 2010 fellowships. AWARD offers tailored, two-year fellowships designed to fast-track the careers of African women scientists and professionals delivering pro-poor agricultural research and development that benefits rural communities, especially women. Our goal is to help them increase their contributions in the fight against hunger and poverty in sub-Saharan Africa.

Eligibility:

African women working in agricultural research and development from Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia who have completed a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree in selected disciplines are invited to apply. US Fulbright Awards 2011/12-CIES-Middle East/North Africa

The Council for International Exchange of Scholars, The Fulbright Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs offers The US Fulbright Awards for the year 2011/12 in Middle East and North Africa
Up to six awards for research in any academic or professional area in two or more countries of the Middle East or North Africa. Support is provided for research projects of historical or contemporary focus, comparative or regional in scope, or where data must be collected in several countries. Fieldwork must be conducted in two or more countries of the region. Projects that involve collaboration with host country colleagues and institutions and that will contribute to cooperation among countries of the region are particularly encouraged. Projects may be undertaken in the following areas of the Middle East and North Africa: Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and West Bank.

Professionals who have a demonstrated record of research will be considered.

Award Benefits:
Monthly maintenance, generally between $1,700 and $3,000, varies by country and number of accompanying dependents.

A travel allowance is provided to cover round-trip international travel fo rthe grantee to the place of assignment. Travel for up to two accompanying dependents (whose who spend at least 80 percent of the grant period abroad with the grantee) is provided for grants of four months or more. Depending on location, other relocation costs (one-time support for settling in, excess baggage provision) are included. In cases where international travel is provided in whole or in part by the host country government or host institution, direct Fulbright support may be adjusted accordingly. Scholars with grantes of less than one semester (four months) do not receive a relocation allowance or an allowance for dependent travel.

Up to $7,000 per child or $14,000 per family for accompanying dependent children in grades K-12 is reimbursed for a full academic year. Amount is adjusted for shorter grant periods. Reimbursement is based on actual cost of tuition and fees only.

Research allowance of $2,000.

Proposals must provide a detailed itinerary of travel to each country, including proposed host institutions, and, if possible, letters confirming affiliation. Applicants are encouraged to arrange affiliation and include letter of invitation. If an affiliation is not confirmed by the time of selection, the applicant will be responsible for obtaining an affiliation as a condition of receiving an award. For projects in North Africa, a one- or two-page Arabic or French summary of the research project is required with the application.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic student to build knowledge in manufacturing and mechanical engineering whilst developing strong relationships with both academic and industrial areas at international levels. The Division of Manufacturing Engineering invites applications from suitably qualified mechanical/manufacturing graduates or final year students for a PhD studentship within the Rolls-Royce UTC in Manufacturing Technology. This PhD project is the result of the expanding fixturing activities sponsored at the Rolls-Royce UTC. The Rolls-Royce UTC at Nottingham has access to state-of-the-art facilities to perform internationally leading research in manufacturing science and engineering. This includes excellent machine tools, diagnosis and monitoring systems, simulation and modelling packages, metrological and metallurgical investigation facilities to support top quality research projects.

Students must have a first or upper second class academic qualification in mechanical/manufacturing engineering or in a related discipline; undergraduate students completing their studies in July 2010 are eligible. Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) 2010/2011 OVERSEAS SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME
In furtherance of its mandate, the PTDF is inviting interested qualified Nigerians to apply for its M.Sc and PhD scholarships in Engineering, Geology, Sciences, and Geosciences in Universities in the United Kingdom for the 2010/2011 session.

from designated main branches of First Bank of Nigeria Plc in all state capitals and FCT upon the payment of a NON-REFUNDABLE sum of N1,000 (One Thousand Naira only). Instructions on how to access the forms online are clearly stated on the backside of the cards. The forms can also be accessed through the Scholarship Boards of the 36 States of the Federation and Directorate of Education under the FCDA, Abuja on presentation of First Bank Draft (only) with face value of N1,000.

The Executive Fellowship Program is sponsored by the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento (Sacramento State) and the Office of the Governor to provide an experiential learning opportunity in California state government. Fellows work full-time in high levels of the executive branch and meet weekly for graduate seminars. This ten-month program uniquely integrates work experience with academic and professional development.
The Executive Fellowship Program aims to facilitate a practical education in California state government, inspire effective and ethical leadership, and promote an appreciation for the complexity, value and rewards of public service.
Executive Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $1,972 as well as medical, dental and vision benefits.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 20 years of age by September 1, 2010.
Have a bachelor’s degree by September 1, 2010.
Be prepared for full-time employment, Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
Individuals with advanced degrees or those in mid-career are encouraged to apply.

Selection Process:

The selection process has two stages. During the first stage, completed applications are screened by the fellowship selection committee. The selection committee includes staff from Sacramento State and the executive branch. Among the qualities looked for in future fellows are scholastic achievement, oral and written communication skills, analytic skills, campus and community service involvement, political awareness, and leadership potential. Applicants are notified in April of their selection for a personal interview. Interviews take place in late April/early May in Sacramento and Los Angeles. The selection committee selects fellows and alternates after interviews and written notifications are mailed in May. The deliberations of the selection committee are confidential and final. All applications become property of the program.

The China Oxford Scholarship Fund presents the China Oxford Scholarships to Chinese Nationals for the year 2010/11 in UK

The China Oxford Scholarship Fund (COSF) was established in 1992 to provide a number of partial awards to students from China who have been accepted for postgraduate studies at Oxford and who will return and contribute to the future development of China after their studies. Felix Scholarships 2010/11-Indian Nationals-UK

The Oxford University offers the Felix Scholarships for the academic year 2010/11 to Indian Nationals in UK

The Felix Scholarships enable first class Indian students to pursue graduate studies at the University of Oxford, University of Reading and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (SOAS). Felix has been supporting students in Oxford since 1993.

Eligibility:

Indian Students.
Applicants must have a first-class degree from an Indian university (or comparable institution).
The scholarships are intended for students who would be unable without financial assistance to take up their place at Oxford.
Students must be under 30 years of age on 01 March 2010.
Students who already hold degrees from universities outside India are not eligible to apply.

Application Process:

The application procedure has now changed from previous years. Applicants to Oxford are no longer required to complete the separate Felix Scholarships application form (although applicants for Felix Scholarships at the other participating institutions will still need to complete it).
Now you simply apply by selecting Felix Scholarships in the University of Oxford Scholarships section of the University’s graduate application form.
The University will shortlist 16 candidates who will be interviewed by Felix’s interview panel in India. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted in late April and interviewed in May. If shortlisted you will be required to complete a short questionnaire providing information on the financial assistance required for your studies.

The California State Assembly Fellowship Program, founded in 1957, is one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious legislative fellowship programs. In 1987, the program was renamed the Jesse Marvin Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program to honor California’s former Assembly Speaker and State Treasurer. This unique program provides an opportunity for individuals of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and experiences to directly participate in the legislative process. Each year, 18 individuals are selected to participate in the program. The 11-month fellowship provides an introduction to public policy formation and adoption in the California Legislature through full-time work as a professional legislative staff member.
The Assembly Fellowship Program is co-sponsored by the California State Assembly and California State University, Sacramento, through the Center for California Studies. Assembly Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $1,972, as well as medical, dental and vision benefits.

Om DTU PhD Scholarships 2010/11-Chemical Engineer/Chemist-Denmark

The Technical University of Denmark offers the Om DTU PhD scholarships for the year 2010/11 in Denmark

The Energy and Materials Science Group at the Department of Chemistry at DTU has for decades been involved in hydrogen energy and fuel cells. Today the main effort is on PEM fuel cells at elevated temperature (high temperature PEM fuel cells at 120-200°C). The group develops all components from the polymer membrane to cells and cell stacks. The project is part of the Danish consortium HotMEA and will include close collaboration with the industrial partner Danish Power Systems who has a cell production line under development. This means that results obtained are not only for the scientific literature but will be utilized immediately.

Eligibility:

Candidates with education as a chemical engineer or chemist, or similar are preferred. An interest in inorganic and physical chemistry is welcomed.
We can offer you to work in a very international environment, not least due to the collaboration with other university groups working within chemistry and physics, as well as with industrial companies in other European countries besides in Denmark.

Scottish Czech and Slovak Summer Scholarships are offered for the year 2010/11 to Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students in Europe

The Trust has sponsored 20 students on specialist summer courses; provided teaching materials for institutions and individuals; and contributed to a study visit to Prague by a group of Scottish students. Czech and Slovak students can apply to any specialist summer school in Scotland except basic language courses. Most students, however, apply for the Scottish Universities International Summer School (SUISS) based at Edinburgh University, in order to study 20th century British and Irish Literature.

Eligibility:

Applications (in English only) are invited from Undergraduates and Postgraduates with a good command of English, proven academic achievment, and preferably a genuine interest in Scottish culture. Scottish students should be able to demonstrate their connection with their Slavonic counterparts. Every effort is made to award adequate amounts of money to enable students to participate, but it is expected that they will meet their travel expenses and a small portion of the tuition fees themselves.

The Center awards approximately 20-25 residential fellowships annually to individuals with outstanding project proposals in a broad range of the social sciences and humanities on national and/or international issues. Topics and scholarship should relate to key public policy challenges or provide the historical and/or cultural framework to illuminate policy issues of contemporary importance.
Eligibility

Citizens or permanent residents from any country (foreign nationals must be able to hold a valid passport and obtain a J1 Visa)
Men and women with outstanding capabilities and experience from a wide variety of -backgrounds (including government, the corporate world, professions, and academia)
Academic candidates holding a Ph.D. (Ph.D. must be received by the application deadline of October 1)
Academic candidates demonstrating scholarly achievement by publications beyond their doctoral dissertations
Practitioners or policymakers with an equivalent level of professional achievement
English proficiency as the Center is designed to encourage the exchange of ideas among its fellows

Notes on Eligibility
You do not need an institutional affiliation to apply. For most academic candidates, a book or monograph is required. Scholars and practitioners who previously held research awards or fellowships at the Wilson Center are not precluded from applying for a fellowship. However, the nature and recency of the prior award may be among the factors considered during the selection process, and by the Fellowships Committee of the Board of Trustees.

Selection Process
Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis. External interdisciplinary panels of distinguished scholars and practitioners assess the applications. The panels’ recommendations are presented to the Center’s Fellowships Committee of the Board of Trustees, composed of public officials who serve ex officio, citizens appointed by the President of the United States, and citizens from the private sector. The Fellowships Committee of the Board of Trustees makes the final decisions on selection.

The basic criteria for selection are:

a) significance of the proposed research, including the importance and originality of the project;

b) quality of the proposal in definition, organization, clarity, and scope;

c) capabilities and achievements of the applicant and the likelihood that the applicant will accomplish the proposed project;

d) the relevance of the project to contemporary policy issues.

The Center welcomes in particular those projects that transcend narrow specialties and methodological issues of interest only within a specific academic discipline. Projects should involve fresh research-—in terms of both the overall field and the author’s previous work. It is essential that projects have relevance to the world of public policy, and fellows should want, and be prepared, to interact with policymakers in Washington and with Wilson Center staff who are working on similar issues.

Themes
The Center devotes significant attention to the exploration of broad thematic areas.

Primary themes are:

governance, including such issues as the key features of the development of democratic institutions, democratic society, civil society, and citizen participation;
the U.S. role in the world and issues of partnership and leadership—military, political, and economic dimensions; and
key long-term future challenges confronting the United States and the world.

While the Center does not engage in formulating actual policy, priority will be given to proposals related to these themes and intersecting with crucial public policy issues. Within this framework, the Center also welcomes projects that provide the historical and/or cultural context for some of today’s significant public policy debates.

Fellows’ Responsibilities
The Center’s “scholars in residence” are so in both name and fact. Fellows are expected to work from their offices at the Center and to participate in appropriate meetings organized by the Center. Fellows are also expected to present their research at our informal internal Work-in-Progress seminars, and to attend the Work-in-Progress presentations given by their colleagues. In addition, fellows are encouraged to make a more formal presentation to the public such as a colloquium, seminar, workshop, or other form of meeting. The Center expects all fellows to seek ways to share their expertise with the Washington policy community. The form of such interaction could range from a deep background briefing for an executive branch agency to an informal roundtable discussion with members of Congress and their staffs.

Affiliation at the Center
Fellows in residence will be affiliated with one of the Center’s programs/projects. Program and project directors often collaborate with scholars in designing seminars, conferences, and/or meetings related to scholars’ research. As of April 2008, these include the United States Studies Division and the International Security Studies Division and programs on Africa, Argentina, Asia, Brazil, Canada, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Mexico, the Middle East, Russia and the former Soviet Union, Southeast Europe, and Western Europe; and the program on Science, Technology, America, and the Global Economy and projects on Comparative Urban Studies, Congress, Emerging Nanotechnologies, Energy, Environmental Change and Security, Foresight and Governance, Global Health, History and Public Policy (which includes the Cold War International History Project and the North Korea International Documentation Project), and Leadership and Building State Capacity.

Woodrow Wilson Center Press
Once awarded a fellowship, fellows who do not already have book contracts for the project they wish to pursue at the Center are encouraged to seek out the Woodrow Wilson Center Press. The Center’s Press, often in collaboration with the Cambridge University Press, Johns Hopkins University Press, or Stanford University Press, reaches a worldwide English-language readership. For titles with special audiences, the Press seeks out other major copublishers, such as Oxford University Press, M.E. Sharpe, and Columbia University Press. The Woodrow Wilson Center Press has published more than 120 books based on fellows’ research and other writing at the Center.

Facilities and Services
Each fellow is assigned an office available to him or her every day around the clock. The Center is located in the heart of Washington, D.C., and includes conference rooms, a reference library, and a dining room. The building is a smoke-free environment. Professional librarians provide access to the Library of Congress, university and special libraries in the area, and other research facilities. Windows-based personal computers are provided, and each fellow is offered a part-time research assistant. Although fellows are responsible for locating their own housing in the Washington, D.C. area, the Center provides written materials to help facilitate the search process.

Stipend
The Center tries to ensure that the stipend provided under the fellowship, together with the fellow’s other sources of funding (e.g., grants secured by the applicant and sabbatical allowances), approximate a fellow’s regular salary. Stipends provided in recent years have ranged from $26,000 to $85,000 (the maximum possible). Stipends include round trip travel for fellows. If spouses and/or dependent children will reside with the fellow for the entire fellowship period, money for their travel will also be included in the stipend. In addition to stipends, the Center provides 75 percent of health insurance premiums for fellows who elect Center coverage and for their accompanying family members.

Length of Appointment
Fellows are expected to be in residence for the entire U.S. academic year (early September through May, i.e., nine months), although a few fellowships are occasionally awarded for shorter periods with a minimum of four months. The Center does not award fellowships for the summer months (June, July, August). Fellowships cannot be deferred, and extensions into the summer months have not been possible in recent years.

Conditions of Award
Fellows must devote full time to the fellowship study and may not accept a teaching assignment, another residential fellowship, or undertake any other major activities that require absence from the Center during the tenure of their fellowship. In order to foster a true community of scholars, fellows must devote a proportionate amount of time to the daily life of the Center. Applicants must notify the Center when they receive other sources of support, including other fellowships or foundation grants, which may affect their request for financial support from the Center. Once fellowships are awarded and at the Center’s (or fellow’s) discretion, project titles may be modified to reflect the Center’s mandate to serve as a bridge between the world of learning and the world of public affairs.

The Project Proposal
It is essential to make your project clear to individuals outside your own field and to explain its broader implications. The elements requested below should be incorporated into the text:

a detailed description of the topic and its importance beyond the interests of the specific field of study;
the originality of the proposed study (explain what makes the project distinctive);
the basic ideas and hypotheses;
the methodology to be used (including the activities you will undertake to gather the data you need for your project and the techniques that you will use to analyze the data in order to prove your thesis);
the present status of your research, including how much has already been done in relevant collections and archives, and what you would hope to accomplish at the Center;
the materials that will be used, the importance of Washington-area resources, and the need for residency at the Center;
the relevance of the project to contemporary policy issues. (It is essential to include this element.)

Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of reference must be postmarked by October 1. Your referees should be familiar with you and your work, and you should send them a copy of your project description so that they can comment specifically upon your proposed study, your qualifications for undertaking it, and how you and/or your work would contribute to the Center’s goal of bridging the gap between the world of learning and the world of public affairs. The letters should follow the guidelines for referees outlined in the Reference Letter Form included in this booklet. Reference letters must be written in English. Do not send letters written for another purpose, such as those for a job application. Applicants are strongly encouraged to follow up with their referees to confirm that they have sent their letters to the Center. Graduate Summer Language Grants for East, South and Southeast Asian Language Study. These grants are offered jointly by the Harvard University Asia Center, the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, the Korea Institute, and the Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies.

Who may Apply:

These grants are for students enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program at Harvard in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences or any of its professional schools for study during the summer of an East Asian language (including the Altaic languages), or of one of the languages of South or Southeast Asia. Study should take place at accredited programs outside of the United States, but exceptions may be made when this is not possible.

Grant Details:

Grants will normally not exceed $6,000. Students are encouraged to budget realistically and, when appropriate, to seek support from other sources, which may be combined with GSLG funds. Students seeking support for the study of South Asian languages should also consult the grant programs offered by the South Asia Initiative. Students should also apply for the Reischauer Institute Summer Language Study Grants for Doctoral Students if appropriate.

The Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA) was first introduced in 1993. It is funded by the Government of Japan, administered by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and conducted at various graduate schools in Japan. Its objective is to contribute to institutional capacity building in economic policymaking to promote the sustainable growth of emerging and developing economies in Asia and the Pacific. By training future macroeconomic managers in these countries, the JISPA aims to enable them to better formulate sound economic and financial stability policies needed for sustainable growth and development.

Overview

The JISPA targets highly motivated government officials who may serve as future macroeconomic policy makers with the capacity and vision to contribute effectively to the economic development of their countries. Scholarship awards are made on the basis of the candidate’s academic record and work background, mathematical and statistics skills, English language proficiency, and potential for contributing to the macroeconomic and financial management and economic development of their country. The assessment also includes qualities such as the candidate’s commitment to public service, willingness to learn, and openness to new ideas.

Currently, the JISPA is open to qualified candidates from the following countries:

Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao P.D.R., Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pacific Island Countries, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

The scholarship covers tuition-related costs and most living expenses for the scholar herself/himself. Officials who receive the JISPA scholarship cannot accept other scholarships. Scholars are expected to devote full time to their studies while in Japan.

The program comprises two tracks: the partnership track and the open track. Because of the strong competition for scholarships, the JISPA is highly selective. In 2010-2011, a total of 30 new scholarships are available to candidates for the partnership track. There is no fixed limit on new scholarships for the open track, but generally only a small number of scholarships are awarded.

Public Intellectuals are those—academics, researchers, media professionals, artists, creative writers, NGO activists, social workers, public servants and others with moral authority—who are committed to working for the betterment of society by applying their professional knowledge, wisdom and experience.

The Nippon Foundation Fellowships for Asian Public Intellectuals (API Fellowships Program) is designed to stimulate the creation of a pool of such intellectuals in the region. They aim to promote mutual learning among Asian public intellectuals and to contribute to the growth of public spaces in which effective responses to regional needs can be generated.

What are the goals?

To create and nurture a community of public intellectuals in the Asian region;
To promote mutual learning among Asian public intellectuals; and
To contribute to the growth of public spaces in which effective responses to regional needs can be generated.

In selecting Fellows, API Fellowships Program will favor projects that address critical issues for the region, which use creative and multidisciplinary approaches, and which have some element of advocacy.

Changing Identities and their Social, Historical, and Cultural Contexts: e.g., the use of historical memory in building regional and national identities; the construction of cultural majorities and minorities; the role of the media and the arts; the dynamics of cultural encounter; the performance of gender, religion, and class roles.
Reflections on the Human Condition and the Search for Social Justice: e.g., the distribution of political rights; economic and physical security; the management of social change; the marginalization of peripheral populations; human interaction with the environment.
Globalization: Structures, Processes, and Alternatives: e.g., the impact of economic integration on states and societies; human and capital migration; the changing role of borders; the meaning of self-reliance; the global marketing of culture; civil society in the era of globalization.

What can I do as a project?

The project may take several forms: research paper; film; series of journalistic articles; data gathering; building networks; work of art, etc., but must fulfill three conditions: it must NOT be part of your regular employment; it must contribute to the goals of the API Fellowships Program, and fit with the API themes; and it must have tangible output (research paper, film, photo essay, etc.).

The project must be carried out in one or more of the API Participating Countries, but NOT in your native country or country of residence. The current Participating Countries are: Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.

You will need to find a Host Insitution in the country where you carry out the project.

Who can apply?

Anyone involved in the production and exchange of knowledge or ideas in line with the goals of API Fellowships Program. This includes academics, researchers, media professionals, artists, writers, NGO workers, social workers, public servants and others who work for the betterment of society.

General eligibility requirements:

Applicants must hold the nationality or proper resident status in one of the five (5) Participating Countries and reside in the country at the time of application;
Applicants must attend an interview at a designated date and place;
The proposed project by the applicant must take place and should be completed within the period of July 1, 2010 to July 31, 2011 (Note: The fellowship period must be continuous.);
Applicants must have a basic knowledge of English or a laungage(s) spoken in the country(ies) where the proposed research and/or activities are conducted; and
Applicants must be based in the region/country and will continue to be so in the future.

API Senior Fellowships and API Fellowships?

(Categories of Fellowships)

The API Fellowships Program offers two (2) categories of Fellowships: API Senior Fellowships and API Fellowships. The categorization is based essentially on the age of the applicant.

The API Senior Fellowships are meant for those with an established track record as a public intellectual and who are at least 40 years of age, as of August 31, 2009. The project may be carried out for a minimum of one (1) month to a maximum of twelve (12) months. Up to four (4) API Participating Countries may be visited.

In addition to the general eligibility above, the applicants for the API Senior Fellowships must:

Be 40 years of age or more as of August 31, 2009 (exceptions may be made);
Have the ability and experience to conduct research projects and/or professional activities in the Participating Countries other than the applicant’s native country or country of residence;
Undertake the proposed research projects and/or professional activities in up to four (4) of the Participating Countries, but in a country(ies) other than the applicant’s native country or country of residence;
Undertake the proposed research projects and/or professional activities for a continuous period of between one (1) and twelve (12) months (Note: The fellowship period must be continuous.); and
Have the ability, influence, and means to disseminate the results of their research projects and/or professional activities.

The API Fellowships are for those under 40 years of age, as of August 31, 2009. The project may be carried out for a minimum of four (4) months to a maximum of twelve (12) months. Up to two (2) API Participating Countries may be visited.

In addition to the general eligibility above, the applicants for the API Fellowships must:

Be under the age of 40 as of August 31, 2009 (exceptions may be made);
Have the ability and desire to engage in research projects and/or professional activitites in the Participating Countries other than the applicant’s native or country of residence;
Have a strong potential to contribute to their field in the future; – Undertake the proposed research projects and/or professional activities for a consecutive period of between four (4) and twelve (12) months (Note: The fellowship period must be continuous.); and
Undertake the proposed research projects and/or professional activities in up to two (2) of the Participating Countries, but in a country(ies) other than the applicant’s native country or country of residernce.

What are commitments involved?

After the project year, you must attend the annual API Regional Workshop, which usually takes place in November (for applicants for Fellows Year 2010-2011, it will be in November 2011), and present your results by submitting the papers and other materials. You are strongly encouraged to disseminate the results of your project to a wider audience wherever possible.

By fulfilling your commitments, you will become a member of the API Community. You will be expected to participate in the activities of the Community, and will have the chance to apply for post fellowship programs.

What is the API Community?

The API Community is consisted of all past and current recipients of an API Fellowship, and everyone involved in the API Fellowships Program as selection members, program directors, and coordinators. This growing community now members more than 250 persons of varied backgrounds but with a shared commitment. Members meet at national and cross-country functions, as well as through informal networks and collaborative projects at a national and regional level.

What does the API Fellowships Program provide?

A stipend and housing allowance for the time spent overseas on the project, the amount varies by country;
International transportation costs, for one round trip only;
Domestic transportation allowance;
Research allowance to cover computer costs, field expences, books, tranlation fees, etc.; and
Travel insurance during the fellowship period.

How are API Fellows chosen?

In each Participating Country, there is a selection committee comprised of established public intellectuals. This committee evaluates all the applications, invites a shortlist for interview, and sends its recommendations to an International Selection Committee which makes the final choice. There are a maximum of six Fellowships for each country per year. The selection procedure is confidential.

What is timing?

The deadline for application submission is August 31, 2009.
Interviews will take place in September/October/November 2009.
The results will be announced in February 2010.
The project must be carried out between July 1, 2010 and July 31, 2011.

2. A Cover Letter
A cover letter with brief introduction of yourself and details of why you are applying for the API Fellowships Program.

3. A Curriculum Vitae
A full CV, written in English with details of your education, professional career, publications, and achievements. (Not more than three (3) pages in length.)

4. Two Reference Letters
If these are not in English, you must provide an English translation. These letters should be addressed to the API Fellowships Program, and be written within three (3) months before the deadline for submission.

5. A Project Proposal
Your project proposal must address to the following questions (in less than five (5) pages):

What is your project? Please answer in detail.
Why do you want to carry out this project?
Why are you the right person to do this project? (mention relevant previous experience.)
How are you going to do it? (methodology)
What will be the outputs (research paper, video, performance, etc.) and how will you disseminate it?
How does the project contribute to the goal of API?
What are your past achievements and future plans as a public intellectual? (organization, advocacy, publication, etc.) How will this Fellowship help you?

Note 1: Project proposals written by persons other than the applicant him/herself are NOT acceptable.

Note 2: Plagiarism in the project proposal is also strictly prohibited.

Please submit the all above documents in one envelope addressed to the Partner Institution in your country.

Please note!

You cannot apply for an API Fellowship for a project in your own country.
You must type the application. Handwritten applications cannot be processed.
If you make any misrepresentation, willful or otherwise, in the application and accompanying documents, it may cause for revocation of the Fellowship grant at any time.

The Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan is a new UC financial aid program intended to expand access to the University for lower-income students by establishing a minimum level of grant aid for undergraduates with financial need and household incomes below the state median of $60,000.

To be eligible for the Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan, you must:

Be a California resident
Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 2 and provide any additional documentation campuses may request by the specified deadline.
Apply for a Cal Grant (if you haven't already)
Demonstrate income below $60,000 with financial need (as determined for federal need-based aid programs)
Be in your first four years as a UC undergraduate (first two for transfer students)
Meet other campus basic requirements for UC grant aid (for example, be enrolled at least half-time during the academic year, meet campus academic progress standards, not be in default on student loans, etc.)
