Park-tennis players in the five boroughs of New York City who had permits last year will start to see the new applications in their mailboxes, starting Mid March. The outdoor tennis season begins April 5th and ends on the third Sunday of November.

Apparently, the Yankee Stadium Redevelopment Project eventually will result in construction of a new tennis facility, among other things.

In fact, 22.42 acres of displaced recreational space is being replaced with 24.56 acres of replacement recreational facilities and two additional ballfields, for a net increase of 5.28 acres of recreational space.

New recreation facilities will include three natural-grass ballfields where the current stadium now stands, an all-weather soccer and football field surrounded by a 400-meter competition-quality track, four basketball courts, eight handball courts, 16 tennis courts and a tennis center, a skating park and a new waterfront park with spectacular views and picnic grounds.

AZTA Hall-Of-Fame Induction 2/23/2008

The AZTA Hall-Of-Fame will be inducting four (4) new members, Betty Blake (mother of Davis Cupper James Blake), Lois Lipman, Malcolm Little, and Karl McMillan on Saturday February 23, 2008 at 7:30 PM at the PAL Harlem Armory Center (40 West 143rd Street, NYC).

The ceremony should be short and refreshments will be served afterwards in the foyer area near the front desk.

All are invited and, unlike some of the other activities in the Center, there is no charge for admission....
