In this tutorial i will show you how to upgrade Uuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) to Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) step by step with screenshots.

1. Launch the update manager:

press on Dash and seach for Update Manager

2. Check for updates:
Click the Check button to check for new updates.
If there are any updates to install, use the Install Updates button to install them, and press Check again after that is complete.

3. Install the upgrade:
A message will appear informing you of the availability of the new release.
Click Upgrade and follow the on-screen instructions.

How to Install Edubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) ?

In this tutorial i will discuss how to install Edubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal.
1-Download Edubuntu 11.04 DVD iso image from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/edubuntu/releases/11.04/release/
2--Burn the downloaded iso image into DVD, Then restart your computer to boot from it.
3-When boot starts you will see list of languages, Select your language and press Enter.
4-Boot menu screen will appear, from it select try Edubuntu without installing if you want to try it before installing or select install Edubuntu to install it directly.
5-If you selected install Edubuntu the installation wizard screen will appear, Select your language and press Forward.
6-Preparing to install screen will appear, in this screen some requirements for installation process : a- 13.8 GB free space b- Power source c- Internet connection. On the same screen mark on install third-party software and install updates, then click forward button.
7-The next screen is Edubuntu installation options (part 1), in this screen you will see optional extras such as Unity interface, Linux terminal and server project, If you want to install them mark on install and press Forward button. Then you will be taken to Edubuntu installation options (part 2) screen, In this screen you will see installed educational packages, Mark on them and press Forward button.
8-In Allocate drive space screen you have two choices a-Erase disk and install Edubuntu (it will make one big partition after removing all data) b-Something else. if you have other operating system .I think the first option is the best if you dont have other operating system ,Select erase disk and press on Forward button.
9-Select your time zone then click Forward button.
10-Select your layout in Keyboard Layout screen, Then click Forward button.
11-In Who Are You screen type your favorite username and password for logging in everytime, then Forward.
12-Afterwards, Edubuntu 11.04 is being installed.
13-Once the installation process has finished, you will be asked to restart your computer. Click on Restart Now.
14-Before shutdown the tray will open automatically, Remove installation media (Edubuntu 11.04 DVD), And then press Enter.
15-Login to new Edubuntu 11.04 desktop with provided username and password.
16-Edubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) is ready to use.

How To Install SimplyMepis 11?

Mepis is a Linux operating system that includes K Desktop Environment (KDE) based on Debian stable.In this tutorial i will explain how to install the latest version SimplyMepis 11.
1-Download simplyMepis from SimplyMEPIS-1.5G_11.0.00_32.iso (32-bit platform) or from
SimplyMEPIS-1.5G_11.0.00_64.iso (64-bit platform).

2-Burn the downloaded iso image onto DVD, Then restart to make the computer boot from it.

3-Boot starts, From Boot selections screen select Default and press Enter.

4-In welcome screen type user and password demo or root, and press Enter .

5-Afterwards, You will be taken to SimplyMepis live desktop, from it select Mepis Install.

6-Type root password and press Ok to start installation process.

7-The Installer wizard appears (MEPIS Install), Agree to the terms and press Next.

8-In disk partitioning screen, if the default is ok press Next, or select which partition is suitable for you.

9-Installation starts, and you will be asked to formate the selected partition, press yes to start installation.

10-select Boot method and press Next.

11-the installer suggest a partition for GRUB boot loader, press Yes to accept, then you get a message tell you that GRUB installed ok press Ok button.

12-In computer Network Names screen, Type your computer name,computer domain, and workgroup, then press Next.

13-In the next screen select your keyboard layout, System clock, And Timezone settings, then press Next.

14-Create username and password , Press Next.

15-Congratulations! You have completed the installation of SimplyMepis 11, Press Finish button.

16-once you pressed Finish button you will get message tell you mepis installation and configuration is complete.To use the new installation,Reboot without DVD, Do you want to reboot now? Press Yes and remove DVD.

17-Login with provided user and password to the new desktop of SimplyMepis 11, And have fun with it.

12-When installtion finished you have to configure you bootloader then press Next.

13-In the next screen you will find the entries on your boot menu so far, you can create additional entries or change the existing ones, Then press Finish button.

14-The next screen will ask you to halt your computer, remove your live system, and restart your computer. Click Finish.

15-After reboot, Bootloader menu appears select Boot Mandriva Linux 2011, and hit Enter.

16-Choose your country and press Next button.

17-Set your password and press Next button.

18-Create user and password, Press Next button.

Once installation has finished by terminal Press Alt+F2 and type: playonlinux, And press Run button.

This is the screen of playOnLinux for first use, Press Next button and follow the setting up instructions of PlayOnLinux.

This is the main window of PlayOnLinux, Press on Install button to install Microsoft Windows applications and games.

And from this window you can select Microsoft Windows applications and games to install on Linux Mint 11(Katya) by PlayOnLinux.

How To Update Linux Mint 11 (Katya) ?

In this tutorial i will explain how to update Linux Mint 11 (Katya) step by step with screenshots.

1-Open Update Manager from Menu >>Applications>>All>>Update Manager or go to the notification icon in the lower right corner and click on it to open Software Manager (this icon will appear when you log in for first time and indicates that there are available updates and look like the figure below).

2-Enter your password and press ok button.

3-When you open Update Manager for first time it will show just one package called mintupdate, preass on Install updates to install it.

4-Update manager is now downloading Package information.

5-Once mintupdate package has installed you will see a list of available updates, Click on Install Updates to install them.

6-When update finishes you will see notification icon look like the figure below i.e the system is up-to-date.
