I'm sure it cost them a fraction of what it would cost to air nationally --- and in return, they get tons of free publicity as bloggers like myself pass it around.

WTSP in Tampa is getting a lot of flack for this:

Ken Tonning, general manager at WTSP, compared the spots to promotions anchors might record when a circus comes to town.

"We decided to partner with them in this event and wanted to do something a little different," Tonning said, noting the spot also highlights the station's ticket giveaway, which includes a grand prize winner who sits in the venue's press box. "I don't think there are any ethical issues."

KING 5: The Yellow Jackets

Sometimes - all you need is a hook.

Forgive me if this is an older campaign, I just stumbled across it.

KING 5 has developed a fun hook for their weather coverage. When its bad out - the yellow jackets come out. Simple. Something for people to remember.

And in a world of "my doppler is bigger than your doppler"/"every station seems to be about the same"... I love the simplicity of a bright rain jacket giving viewers something to latch on to. And perfect for Seattle!

This is the new campaign from ABC News.

They talk about making things clear - and I wonder if all the fast cutting works against that message. But its not terrible.

What I do feel bad about is that large group shot of the ABC News team - which includes Christiane Amanpour - who just left ABC. I hope they shot a version without her! :)

Quit While You're Ahead?

Some of these WFAA spots have been fantastic. Great at getting his name out there. I hear the ratings have improved.

But spots like this one seem like "the ideas that should have been left alone." I'm not sure its creating a fun relationship between Ron Corning and his co-anchor. In fact, it makes him seem more annoying and only helps highlight the fakeness that is local tv news. She's irked by him - but puts on a nice, big, fake smile once the cameras turn back on.

I work with the most talented team in the business. Here are two spots from the amazingly talented Mike Wiebe - one of the best/nicest guys I've ever had the pleasure of working with.

He animated these two spots, which included making a 3-D model of one our anchors, Mark S. Allen.

For those outside of Sacramento - the two main characters in these spots are anchors for our fun morning show, Good Day Sacramento.
