Finally, after a long time of brainstorming, the Department of Tourism unveiled the new tourism campaign - It's more fun in the Philippines.

And another, the DoT also have something for domestic tourism - #1 for fun Philippines.

Some say the new brand campaign is better than Pilipinas Kay Ganda, which drew controversy because of the plagiarized tagline and graphics that led to the resignation of the tourism official behind the mess.

Some say, the new brand lacks punch at all while others prefer the old WOW Philippines tourism campaign.

Well, we cannot please everybody. What we need to do for now is support and campaign for the betterment of our country's economy and people, regardless of the brand campaign it carries.

So let's just make it work this time.

New Year means another year of opportunity to make life suitable to live for. We strive hard the past year and today, we still do the same - all for the better. And for working my fingers to the bone, I need to give back something for myself to endure.
That is why having a good investment is one of my main goal this year. Dealing with investment is risky most of the time but I decided to grab the opportunity to gain more in due time.
Currently, I am practically reading or learning more about East Coast Health Insurance. Why? Because, friends and family members encourage me to have an insurance policy, practically about health insurance because of the nature of my job.
I know it's a complex topic with all the terms and conditions stated in the policy but with the help of my friends and through personal consultation with an insurance agent makes it easy for me to understand about East Coast Health Insurance. The benefits it provide are just right for my needs.

Just one week to go until 2011 ends. I've been thinking of a gift for myself for the New Year. How about a new blog? I guess I have to own a site and so I browsed findwebhosting.com to check for a web host. I'm still trying to think about the niche of the blog I'm going to put up.
And if I have to give up some sites I've previously owned. I know you understand how hard it is to maintain blogs of different niche. I have some friends who have twelve blogs in all...that requires tremendous maintenance and attention. That I cannot do because I have limited time to be online. I am currently on leave until the last day of the year that's why I am having time to work on my new blog with the help of findwebhosting.com.
I still have a lot of things to decide like the url, the name of the blog, the design and layout. If I'd choose a Wordpress or stick to Blogger and if I will opt for a paid hosting service or a free web host. For now, I got to get going because time runs fast and I want a new web by the New Year.

2011 CNN Hero: Robin Lim

Robin Lim, a Filipino-American midwife said in a speech during the 2011 CNN Hero awarding ceremony at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Sunday evening.

With average families in Indonesia earning only $8 a day, many cannot afford birthing services in hospitals, which can cost between $70 and $700. Thus, the country holds high maternal and infant mortality rates.

Lim, 54, said mothers should only worry about delivering their babies safely and not about how they should pay the hospital where they gave birth.

She is the 2nd CNN Hero of the Year awardee of Filipino descent. The first Pinoy CNN Hero was Efren Penaflorida for his Kariton Classroom advocacy, two years ago.

Remittances from Filipinos working overseas are at an all-time high. And no, it’s not just because they’re sending back US dollars, Saudi Riyals, Euros or Japanese Yen; but because our modern-day heroes are sending back what’s known as social remittances.
Social remittances refer to ideas, practices, identities and social capital that flow from receiving to sending country communities. It was coined by sociologist Peggy Levitt in her book “The Transnational Villagers and she describes social remittances being transferred by migrants and refugees that are exchanged by letters or other forms of communication that includes phone, fax, the internet or video. She suggested that social remittance
affects family relations, gender roles, class and race identity, as well as have a substantial impact on political, economic and religious participation.
This concept isn’t something new for the Philippines. In the 1800s, this was already seen through the newspaper La Solidaridad and the novels of Jose Rizal. Like them whose ideas paved . In the 21st century, blogging is the new form of social remittance of Filipinos working and living abroad. Through their blogs they are publishing their stories online to inspire others. They also advocate for causes, help others and muster support from their readers to help effect change in their own little ways.
With globalization, Filipino migrants are beginning to realize the power of harnessing the potential of social remittance. They may be students pursuing a higher education, a professional with a white-collar job or a migrant working as house help; but all of them have something in common: an economic goal and aspiration.

This year the Pinoy Expat/OFW Blog Awards or PEBA 2011 is geared to recognize the contributions of Filipino bloggers abroad. This year’s theme is dubbed as "Ako'y Magbabalik, Hatid Ko'y Pagbabago." (I Will Return, I Will Bring Change) as Balikbayans not only send back their monetary remittances; but social remittances as well.

For this year PEBA opens a new blog search called PEBA’s Any Blogger, Anywhere for all Filipino bloggers in various categories, at home or abroad. More secure search from Google

Did you know that Google has started securing its search services? It uses a twofold process that can potentially shut out scammers who rely on search engine optimization (SEO) to lure victims to their sites.

This protects the searches of users with unsecured Internet connections, such as most WiFi hotspots.

The site says, "As search becomes an increasingly customized experience, we recognize the growing importance of protecting the personalized search results we deliver. As a result, we’re enhancing our default search experience for signed-in users. Over the next few weeks, many of you will find yourselves redirected to https://www.google.com (note the extra “s”) when you’re signed in to your Google Account. This change encrypts your search queries and Google’s results page. This is especially important when you’re using an unsecured Internet connection, such as a WiFi hotspot in an Internet cafe. You can also navigate to https://www.google.com directly if you’re signed out or if you don’t have a Google Account.

What does this mean for sites that receive clicks from Google search results? When you search from https://www.google.com, websites you visit from our organic search listings will still know that you came from Google, but won't receive information about each individual query. They can also receive an aggregated list of the top 1,000 search queries that drove traffic to their site for each of the past 30 days through Google Webmaster Tools. This information helps webmasters keep more accurate statistics about their user traffic. If you choose to click on an ad appearing on our search results page, your browser will continue to send the relevant query over the network to enable advertisers to measure the effectiveness of their campaigns and to improve the ads and offers they present to you."

In time for the Thanksgiving Day, my cousin Alizza cooked Baked Turkey!

She saw the recipe at cooksrecipes.com and made it perfect for the family to eat and share for one of the most wonderful occasion of the year.

And yes, she's ready for the Black Friday Sale too. In fact, her list of items to buy and money to spend are intact her satchel bag. Ready to go and fall in line.

She said, she'll be bringing some baked turkey to eat while waiting in line. Coz 2011 Black Friday Sale is expected to be a blast.

Here's the recipe for Baked Turkey

1 (12-pound) turkey
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, sliced
1/2 cup vegetable oil
4 cloves large garlic, crushed
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon seasoned salt

Preheat oven 350°F (175°C).
Clean and rinse out turkey cavity and pat dry.
Place turkey in a roasting pan.
Carefully lift skin over breasts, thighs and drumsticks and insert butter.
Rub oil and crushed garlic cloves over turkey, then sprinkle with allspice and seasoned salt.
Tie or skewer legs together to hold shape during cooking.
Cover with aluminum foil.
Bake for 4 hours, or about 20 minutes per pound.
Meathermometer should read 180°F. when inserted into the thickest portion of the breast away from the bone.
Remove foil during last 30 minutes of cooking, baste with pan juices and brown skin.

The world population is now 7 billion according to the United Nations. Last October 31, the symbolic 7 billionth babies became the topic in the world wide web.

The Philippines has its fair share. when Camille Dalura delivered the 2.5 kilos baby girl named Danica May at the famous "baby factory" Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila.

She was welcomed by representatives from the government and the United Nations and was presented with a special cake.

Moreover Danica received a scholarship grant and her parents a livelihood package.

I know, Malacanang just declared through Proclamation 265 that October 31 is a special non-working holiday.

Yeah, I know, you've got 4 days to relax and unwind and at the same time, enjoy the spooky nights of Halloween and All Saint's Day. You're so lucky dude when I need to go to work on those wonderful days. Hope the office finds time to promote Halloween party at work. If that pushes through, I already have my Halloween costumes ready. Yadah!

Every time my uncle returns home from a long work period overseas, he would tell me stories about his adventures. He have been to many places around the world because he is a seaman.
