Nokia Lumia 1520 to be launched in India today 16 december

Nokia is all set to announce the launch of its 6-inch Lumia 1520 in India today at an event. Nokia Lumia 1520 is one of the company's two 6-inch devices (the other is the Lumia 1320), but according to a Nokia spokesperson, the company will only launch the Lumia 1520 today.

The Lumia 1520 will be available in red, black and white and eventually in yellow colour. The price of the phone will reportedly range between Rs 40,000 and Rs 45,000.

There was intense pressure on Tendulkar to bid adieu to Test cricket after a prolonged form slump and particularly with the advent of a number of young players.Tendulkar's 200th Test match is most likely to be held at his home ground in Mumbai from November 14. The Eden Gardens in Kolkata is also a contender for hosting that historic match.

Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar has announced that he will retire from the Tests following his approaching 200th Test cricket match.

"All my life, I have had a dream of playing cricket for India. I have been living this dream every day for the last 24 years. It’s hard for me to imagine a life without playing cricket because it’s all I have ever done since I was 11 years old. It’s been a huge honour to have represented my country and played all over the world. I look forward to playing my 200th Test Match on home soil, as I call it a day.

Apple Inc, the iconic smartphone-maker, today said its latest models, the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, will go on sale in India just before Diwali. And as far as price is concerned, it remains hidden, but make sure your wallet is deep.

The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C will be available in more than a dozen countries on November 1, including India and Mexico, Apple Inc said in a statement today, without revealing their prices.

A contract-free and unlocked 16GB version of the iPhone 5C is available for USD 549 (about Rs 34,700) in the US, while an unlocked and contract-free iPhone 5S can be bought in the US for USD 649 (about Rs 41,000).

The iPhone 5S, which the California-based firm calls the the most forward-thinking smartphone in the world, and the iPhone 5C, the most colourful iPhone yet, will hit retailers in 25 countries, including Italy, Russia and Spain, from October 25, it added.

Apple has announced that its flagship smartphone, iPhone 5s, and the less-expensive iPhone 5c will be available in India along with over a dozen other countries starting November 1.

The Faces of Facebook is exactly what you think it would be. It's all of the faces of people on Facebook. That's right, all 1.27 billion members of the largest social network on the planet — all presented in the order that they joined.

The faces of facebook online app has scanned the public profile pictures of each member, which equates to one seventh of the Earth's population and its makers claim that if you were to browse all of them individually, it would take 36 years, 9 months, 6 hours, 46 minutes, 15 seconds.

While zoomed out, the site is a mess of randomized noise, a billion pixels squeezed into your monitor. But when you zoom in, each of those pixels gets resolved into a small face of a real person. It's an impressive piece of coding, pulling from the entire Facebook database. Unfortunately, the base pixel that's used to represent each person before their image comes in isn't actually linked to the color of the photo.
Another interesting side of this is the privacy implications. As developer Natalia Rojas puts it, "we are not breaking any Facebook privacy rules because we don't store anyone's private information, pictures or names." It's all just being pulled in using totally public information.

SHADOW: an app to remember and record your dreams

There are currently 7 billion people in the world dreaming every night, but we hardly remember our dreams, let alone try and make sense of their patterns and how they relate to our well-being. Human dreaming, the collective subconscious, is one of the largest data sets in the universe, yet we’re doing very little to track, quantify and understand it. And as the quantified self movement shifts into high gear, how important will our dreams be to fully understanding ourselves?

“Essential,” says dream entrepreneur Hunter Lee Soik. “We problem solve in dreams, we process our experiences, we make long term memories, and we come up with crazy ideas. There’s a reason we call our biggest, most bombastic goals ‘dreams’—it’s because our dreams are where this magic happens. We really believe that recognizing this potential—and being bold enough to harness it—is key to our future.”

Soik is the founder of SHADOW, a “Community of Dreamers”, which is launching a campaign today on Kickstarter to raise funds for its new mobile app. The company plans to build the world’s largest dream database through an app that helps you record and remember your dreams.

SHADOW is an alarm clock that gradually wakes you up with escalating alarms. Once you’re done hitting snooze, the app prompts you to record what you remember of your dream either by speaking directly into the app or typing. The app then uploads all your data into a private dream journal that analyzes and visualizes your long-term dream patterns in hopes of delivering a better understanding of your dreaming self.

As a dreamer, you’ll have the choice to keep your dreams private, share them with friends or family, and push them to the cloud. If you choose to share, your dream joins an anonymous data cloud and SHADOW uses natural language processing algorithms and keyword recognition from your dream to identify global patterns. So while the exact details of your dream won’t be recorded, keywords like “black bike” “Berlin” and “Picasso” will.

Blackberry 9270 launched in India at Rs. 15,990

BlackBerry on Thursday announced the launch of its new social BlackBerry 9720 smartphone in India, priced at Rs 15,990. The company last month unveiled the smartphone, with the dated BB 7.1 OS operating system instead of the revamped BlackBerry 10 platform, and promised that the device will hit selected markets like Asia, EMEA and Latin America in the coming weeks.

Availability date : 14 November

Features and Specifications:

The BlackBerry 9720 boasts aesthetics similar to the company's Curve series, measuring 12mm in thickness, and weighing in at 120 grams.

It features a full physical QWERTY keyboard and a 2.8-inch touchscreen TFT LCD display with a 360x480 pixels resolution, boasting of a pixel density of 214ppi.

It is powered by an 806MHz Tavor MG1 processor and has 512MB of RAM.

The 9720 sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with 4X digital zoom and image stabilization alongside an LED flash, but lacks a front-facing camera.

The device runs on BlackBerry 7.1 OS, which features an updated interface that lets you swipe to unlock the phone or access the camera from the lock screen, as well as additional enhancements.

The device features a dedicated BBM key and BBM Voice.The latest version of BBM, which features BBM Channels, will also soon be available for download on the BlackBerry World storefront, said the company.

The smartphone also integrates BlackBerry Balance technology, which separates work from personal content on the smartphone, supporting the needs of the enterprise and the BYOD customer.

It will be interesting to see how the phone is received by users considering it doesn’t run on BB10. Potential BlackBerry users have complained about the lack of any new devices in the sub-Rs 20,000 segment but it remains to be seen whether the older OS still has any mojo left considering BlackBerry itself is focusing most of its efforts and marketing on BB10.

The next Sony Xperia handset might be about to up the squish factor, if a leaked press teaser is the real deal.The picture appeared on Chinese site Digi-wo and was picked up by XperiaBlog. Depicting a splash of purple across a black background, it appears to show what looks like a shooting star dashing across the night sky.

But wait - look more closely! That's actually a phone. In fact, you can even see the power button and volume rocker if you squint your eyes really hard.We'd assume, then, that this is Sony's rumoured next addition to the Xperia line, previously going under the codename of Honami - and now referred to as the Xperia i1.

As you can see, the image teases a September 4 date on the bottom with "Berlin" written below it. Sony's IFA 2013 press conference is set for that very date. In Berlin. Go figure.

One of the more interesting rumours that's been swirling is that the phone will have a 20-megapixel camera capable of shooting 4K video. A quad-core processor is also expected to appear.As official as it looks, we wouldn't take this as legit until Sony sends these out globally. GlobalWebIndex has listed the top 10 apps most actively used by the 969.49 million strong global smartphone population.

1. Google Maps:

Google Maps is the most used smartphone app, with over 54 per cent of the global smartphone population using the app in the last month. Apple Maps is nowhere to be seen but Nokia's Ovi Maps clocks 9 per cent of smartphone usage and ranks No. 11 in the chart.

2. Facebook:

Though the Facebook mobile app may seem to be the most widely used app by smartphone users, but it is ranked a distant number 2. The app is used by 44 per cent of global smartphone users, Google Maps is a good 10 per cent ahead.

3. Youtube:

After topping the list with its Google Maps app, Google also takes number 3 with YouTube (35 per cent).

4. Google + :

Google+ mobile app is at number 4 (30 per cent). It seems to be popular among smartphone users.

5. Wechat:

The research reveals that the Chinese-based service is being actively used by the 27 per cent of the global smartphone population. It is a mobile text and voice messaging communication service developed by Tencent in China, first released in January 2011. 6. Twitter:

At number 6 is Twitter's mobile App with a 22 per cent active usage.

The company announced the availability of this new feature while announcing that it has now hit the 300 million monthly active users mark. With this new feature, you can record and send voice clips with one press of the mic icon.

This feature will be available on all its platforms within 24 hours.

What's interesting about this feature is that it is simple with less taps on the screen to get the job done. You just press the record button to record your message and let go of the mic icon once ur done to send the message.
If you decide not to send the message then you just swipe to the left to delete the recording. There is no time length limit when recording a message therefore users can get as creative as they want.
Another interesting feature is that the playback of a voice text will automatically switch from handset's speakers to its earpiece when the device is held to your ear. The mic icon also turns blue when recipients have listened to the message .

Android 4.3 is available from today if you're the proud owner of a Nexus 7, and it will also be coming 'soon' on the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 Google versions. Many believed that Android 4.3 Jelly Bean would make an appearance at the search giant's annual IO conference which took place in May, but sadly no such announcement was made.

1. Addition of Restricted Profiles:

This feature is for users who have kids. Android has allowed you to have multiple users for some time now, but with this version you can finally have restricted profiles.You can keep junior out of your, ah, questionable apps or Web sites.

Technically, it means that you can set up separate environments for each user with fine-grained restrictions in the apps that are available in those environments.

According to Google, "Each restricted profile offers an isolated and secure space with its own local storage, home screens, widgets, and settings. Unlike with users, profiles are created from the tablet owner’s environment, based on the owner’s installed apps and system accounts. The owner controls which installed apps are enabled in the new profile, and access to the owner’s accounts is disabled by default."

2. Bluetooth Smart Ready support:

The new Android OS now includes native Bluetooth Smart support or Bluetooth Low-Energy. Devices such as the Nexus 4 and the new Nexus 7 are now Bluetooth Smart Ready. Furthermore, Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3 support has been added, meaning that song names will now be displayed on car stereos.

3. Graphics Capabilities:

Android 4.3 now supports OpenGL ES 3.0 – “the latest version of the industry standard for high performance graphics“. In a nutshell, version 3.0 supports better and more complex 2D and 3D graphics, as well as new options for texture compression and shaders. Evidently, this will allow app developers to create more graphically advanced applications / mobile games.

4. Notification Access:

People love those notifications at the top of their Android display. I know I do. I'm constantly checking them. Until this new version of Android appeared developers couldn't access this data stream. Now they can. That is, if you, the user, allow them to.

What developers can do is register a notification listener service that, with your blessing, will receive all the data notifications when they're displayed in the status bar. Developers can then launch applications or services for a new class of "smart" apps.

5. Improved Audio:

For owners of devices that feature stereo speakers (such as the new Nexus 7), Android 4.3 brings virtual surround audio to the table. This particular feature delivers a quasi-surround effect which has been used for various speakers and headphones for many years. For the Android platform however, this is a new addition and it’s most welcomed.

Samsung 'Galaxy Note 3' to be launched on September 4

Samsung today announced that it will be hosting a special event on 4 September in Berlin where it will launch a new Galaxy smartphone. Most expect the Galaxy Note III will be launched at the event.

Like the two previous generations of Note phablets, the Note 3 will be unveiled at annual technology trade show IFA in Berlin, this time at a special event entitled Samsung Unpacked 2013 Episode 2.

Features:

It is believed that this year that Samsung will slightly increase the size of the display for the handset to 5.7-inch and it will have a Full HD resolution, which makes sense when you look at the history of the Note series as well as the Galaxy S flagship range.
On this design there is also a 16-megapixel rear facing camera paired with an LED flash and under the hood is the recently announced Samsung Exynos Octa 5420 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM.

The device has a premium aluminium body with a flexible OLED handset which isn’t likely to come this year but is tipped to arrive on Samsung smartphones in the future.
It will come with 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 3GB of RAM

New 'HTC One Max' phablet

It looks like Taiwan-based HTC is gearing up to add a new phablet - HTC One Max - to its existing One series. According to French site Nowhereelse, the first pictures of this smartphone have leaked out, and one cannot miss the massive 5.9-inch display on the One Max

It's been rumoured that Taiwanese handset maker, HTC is working on different variants of its flagship smartphone, the HTC One.

Taiwanese site, ePrice has posted some images of the alleged HTC One Max that reveals the design of the yet to be announced handset.

The latest rumour to hit the Web is the HTC One Max which is likely to feature a 5.9-inch HD display and a metal design similar to the one boasted by the HTC One.
It's said to run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, out-of-the-box.
The device is likely to be powered by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, while the original HTC One is powered by a Snapdragon 600 processor. While the One Max also features the same UltraPixel and 2.1-megapixel front-facing cameras as the HTC One.
Other features include 2GB of RAM, 16GB storage and a 3300mAh battery.
The report also claimed that the device would be a dual SIM phone and would be LTE compatible.

None of the details have been confirmed by the company, yet.

In the past few weeks, speculated features and pictures of the camera-centric Xperia i1 smartphone, a.k.a Honami, have been making headlines. Now, the phone has surfaced on a benchmark website, revealing certain key specs of the upcoming Sony device.

A popular smartphone benchmark testing site, GFXBench has popped up with this new phone, almost confirming the existence of the high-end Sony phone.

The Japanese electronics company is expected to showcase its camera centric high-end smartphone at the international technology trade fair, IFA on September 4.

Its main USP is 20MP camera boasting of Exmor RS image sensor technology, CMOS sensor. It will also feature Sony's exclusive G-lens and an image processor 'BIONZ' which are only seen in the high-end DSLR cameras. The smartphone will sport a 2.0-megapixel Exmor R camera on the front side.
In order to further enhance the photography experience, Sony is said to pack camera tools such as advanced and manual options, time-shift burst mode, Sweep Panorama options, Social Live feature (which allows users to broadcast live video on social platform like Facebook), Info-eye feature, AR Effect feature, which lets user to put 'Augmented Reality' scenarios on to a picture, and many more filter options.

In terms of internal hardware, it is expected to house a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series quad-core processor paired with Adreno 330 graphics engine. Memory wise, it is said pack 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory with options of expansion through microSD card.
It would sport a 5.0-inch full HD Triluminos screen which boasts of X-Reality display technology and run on Android v4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.

The battery, while still non-removable, will be bumped to 3,000mAh, from the 2,330mAh on the Xperia Z.
The Sony Xperia i1 is said to be IP57 certified, which it is completely dust-protected and will withstand a meter of water for 30 minutes.

After being around in the news for a really long time, the HTC One finally got an official launch in India in late-May this year. The Taiwan-based company is now close to unveiling the dual-SIM variant of its HTC One smartphone in India. On its India website, HTC has listed the dual-SIM variant of the One as “Coming Soon”. It was first spotted by gizbot earlier on 2 august.

The specs of the two smartphones are almost similar, barring a few differences.

One feature that really differentiates the HTC One dual SIM from the original HTC One is its removable back that lets the user insert micro SIM cards.

For a long time, the only way to take a screenshot on an Android phone involved rooting the device (a process similar to jailbreaking an iPhone) and installing specialized software.

Thankfully, that's no longer the case in Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean. Just press the power and volume-down buttons simultaneously.
