Transam Microsystems appointed sole Microdasys Distributor for UK and Ireland – Bridging the gap in the content security of web traffic

Microdasys recognises security expertise and sales track record of long-established system integrator

London, 24 November 2005 – Microdasys, a leader in data security solutions for the open systems market, today announced that Transam Microsystems has been appointed as a distributor for the UK and Ireland for Microdasys’ product range.

Founded in 1978 Transam focuses on a number of highly related areas including IT infrastructure solutions, storage management, e-mail and web content management, remote access and IT security. Transam is well placed to appoint and assist resellers for Microdasys’ products, SCIP (Secure Content Inspection Proxy) and XmlRAY.

Microdasys enables enterprises to benefit safely from encrypted Internet connections without sacrificing confidentiality and security. It makes the Internet a safer place for businesses of all sizes. Microdasys understands the critical need to inspect, manage and control the huge amount of web traffic that is encrypted – over 30%. As a result, none of the policies security administrators have established for their company can be enforced on encrypted web traffic.

Since its introduction in early 2003 SCIP has been installed by many enterprises across all industries. Some of these could not afford the risks to business growth of blocking encrypted files which are essential to e-commerce. Others did not wish to waste costly man-hours administering lengthy and unmanageable proxy whitelists, while still not being able to inspect the traffic. None of them wanted to entrust their business to a communications model where digital server certificates are supposed to guarantee the identity and trustworthiness of a web server, but do not. Server certificates can be self-signed, stolen, bogus, expired or revoked and they are beyond the control of the security administrator. Users can ignore warning messages of the web browser and allow the connection. By inspecting encrypted traffic SCIP and XmlRAY give IT control and deliver peace of mind to the business. Easy to install and manage these products are affordable to organisations of all sizes.

Faber and Faber Publishers Installs Affordable DataCore IP SAN and Disaster Recovery for Apple and Windows Servers

LONDON, Nov. 9 - Transam and DataCore Software today announced that one of London's great independent publishing houses has selected DataCore(TM)SANmelody to deliver a highly available storage solution across their existing Ethernet and Fibre Channel networks. The storage area network (SAN) manages the crown jewels of Faber and Faber, including the publishing systems, image databases as well as the day-to-day office systems for email and finance. Faber and Faber had an existing HP Fibre Channel SAN in place, but needed to add additional servers and capacity. A project soon arose to look atalternatives, as the cost was significant. Ian Bridges, IT Director at Faberand Faber, said "Our existing Fibre Channel SAN was getting more and more expensive to maintain and expand, and we wanted a single solution that would allow us to have our Windows and Macintosh servers using common storage."

A trusted reseller to Faber and Faber that had provided solutions to the publisher in the past, Transam Microsystems introduced Faber and Faber to the advantages of storage virtualization and, in particular, to DataCore's SANmelody software after other products did not provide the high availability on both Ethernet and Fibre Channel, were too expensive or could not provide a highly available solution for Macintosh and Windows. Brian Emmerson of Transam Microsystems said, "SANmelody provided the scalable and flexible solution that Faber and Faber were looking for, satisfying their immediate needs and providing a platform for growth."

Faber and Faber sought a flexible solution for the future, which would allow a choice of future storage options. They were also keen to take advantage of the disaster recovery (DR) option and higher levels of data protection. Ian Bridges said, "SANmelody allows us to better use our existing SAN investment. Plus, it delivers the flexibility for adding any storage product in the future without disruption. The fact that there was also a DR replication option, which was very cost-effective and used our existing infrastructure, seemed too good to be true."

Beyond meeting the initial requirements and the immediate critical needs,SANmelody has provided many additional capabilities and a new level offlexibility to deal with storage growth and new requirements. SANmelody has satisfied the high-availability needed for Windows servers on the IP SAN as well as for Macintosh Servers on the Fibre Channel SAN. The product has also meant that a copy of data can be kept on a DR site, and has facilitated non-disruptive data and storage migration. Concluded Bridges, "From relatively low-cost components, we have a SAN that can surpass the features and performance of far higher-cost products."

Distributed Resource Scheduling: Infrastructure-wide resource optimization enabling a self-managing, highly efficient compute cluster with built-in resource and load balancing. Built on top of VMotion technology and VirtualCenter, distributed resource scheduling intelligently and continuously balances virtual machine workloads across ESX Server hosts so users can safely operate at 80% utilization or higher. Distributed availability services detect when increasing virtual machine activity saturates an ESX Server host and triggers automated VMotion live migrations to move running virtual machines to other ESX Server nodes so that all resource commitments are met.

VMware ESX Server 3 and VMware VirtualCenter 2 provide customers with the option to deploy virtualization in any environment - from the smallest branch office to the largest data center. ESX Server 3 has broader x86 support that unlocks the power of newer dual-core processor hardware and added NAS and iSCSI networked storage compatibility.
