In ancient times people use to do piercing on their ears as a part of their religious tradition. It is also been mentioned in Bible. In ancient cultures of some Asian and African countries, this tradition was very common.

Earlier in the 19th century ear piercing was confined to women, but later men also adopted ear piercing and it became an important part of their fashion statement. Ear piercing is the most common form of body piercing.

It can be done on different location in your ears. Some common forms of ear piercing are discussed below:

1) Ear lobe piercing: The piercing done on the ear lobe takes very much less time to heal as compared to other types of piercing. Generally 5 to 6 weeks time is required after this type of piercing. This makes it the most common form.

2) Horizontal lobe piercing: When people want to wear a barbell on their ear, horizontal lobe piercing is used. It is done horizontally parallel to the ear lobe.

3) Rook piercing: Rook is located at the uppermost part of the ear. This is one of the thickest part of the ear. Not everyone can have rook piercing as it takes a lot of time to heal and comparatively more space is required for piercing.

Corset piercings, sometimes called ladder piercings, are a series of surface piercings arranged up the back in two vertical columns. The piercing are located in the spot where the eyelets would be if one was wearing a corset. It is a symmetrical piercing with an equal number of holes on each side. As few as four holes can be used (two on each side) up to as many as the expanse of skin will allow.

Most people who get corset piercings use standard captive bead rings which a length of ribbon is then laced through. Although ribbon or lace are the most popular materials, rope and chain have also been used at times. While this all looks lovely, it is only intended for temporary use. If kept in, surface piercings such as these that use this type of jewelry will most likely not heal. The rings will migrate around the skin as they are rejected by the body, the wounds will become irritated, and nine times out of ten will leave horrible, unsightly scars all along the back. Sometimes hypodermic needles or bondage/slave rings are used instead with the same effect. To avoid this, the jewelry should be removed promptly after the fun has been had (corset piercings are common in fetish performances) and the pictures have been taken (they are also popular subjects for photo shoots.)

Dermal anchor or dermal piercing is similar to single-point pocketing. It's where you put the base of the jewelry (dermal anchor base) under the skin and where only the top part appears.

What is a Correct Belly Button Piercing?

There are industry standards for a belly button piercing, but not all Piercers concern themselves with how your after market jewelry will fit.
The standard size belly ring is 14 gauge. This is the thickness of the bar. A large selection of jewelry is available in this standard gauge. If you are pierced with a thinner or thicker needle, you will only have basic steel barbells to select from. Any professional piercer should pierce for a 14 gauge barbell.
The length is more tricky for the Piercer. The end result can be based on the distance of the piercing and the depth of the piercing. Ideally a 3/8" or 7/16" curved barbell will fit properly in a healed belly piercing.
Now, when I say the proper length is 3/8" or 7/16" (only 1mm difference for these 2 length), I do not mean for the barbell to be completely inside of the piercing. There should be some barbell showing, to allow the piercing to breathe and to provide room for sitting and stretching.
A fresh piercing will either use a circular barbell (best for cleaning the piercing) or a curved barbell that is longer than the standard, allowing room for swelling and cleaning.
Three most common problems: too shallow a piercing, a crooked piercing, or too deep an angle, making the belly ring pull into the belly button.

Ears can be pierced just about anywhere from the lower lobes to the thin rim that runs around the entire shell of the ear. Modern piercing techniques allow for easy piercing and more successful healing, especially for cartilage piercings. In order to distinguish one type of ear cartilage piercing from another, a wide array of new piercing names were born.

The ear is the part of the body that is the most accepting of the "if it protrudes, pierce it" school of piercing. Many individual parts of the ear can be pierced and healed successfully. In the picture shown here, the red letters indicate the location of a wide variety of ear piercing variations.

A - Anti-tragus - This piercing is through the thicker cartilage piece adjacent the tragus, attached to the rim of the ear.
C - Conch - also, conk. This term refers to any piercing through either the inner or outer shell of the ear.
D - Daith - This inner ear cartilage piercing is just above the opening into the ear canal. The name comes from the Hebrew word meaning "wisdom."
H - Helix - Outer cartilage ridge piercings. This is a popular location for multiple rings, which can be set around the rim, or through the ridge itself.
L - Lobes, stretched - These are bigger gauge holes, usually lower down on the lobe. The smaller the jewelry gauge number, the larger the hole. Jewelry for these can be like tiny tubes or plugs and go up to about an inch and a half in the more commonly found largest sizes. Authentic, tribal jewelry is wearable in these sizes with elaborate, hand-carved pieces crafted from materials such as bone, stone or wood.
R - Rook - These ear piercings goes through the stiff ridge in the fold of the shell of the ear.
T - Tragus - This piercing is through the cartilage chunk just next to the opening of the ear canal. If you are fond of ear bud style head phones, be careful how you set this piercing, as placement deeper into the tissue or a larger gauge ring can interfere with how the buds seat themselves in the ear conch.

An Industrial is when multiple ear piercings are aligned so that one piece of jewelry, usually a barbell, is worn through the two holes. Helix piercings are easily paired this way, especially when the piercings are done specifically for this purpose but any two adjacent piercings that can be comfortabley connected will work. This style has also been called an Ear Orbit when it is done so that a ring is worn through the two holes.

A Transverse piercing runs across the length of the lobe, rather than through it, like a surface piercing on the ear. Placement of this unique piercing usually works best on the lower lobe where the tissue is both flat and flexible.

Consumers must pay careful attention to the stud or clasp on earrings; jewelry with a high karat rating commonly is paired with less expensive gold-plated studs or earring backs. Niobium and titanium are light-weight elemental metals that rarely produce an allergic response. Other features to consider in body piercing jewelry include ease of removal (in case of trauma or radiographs), surface smoothness, and its capacity to with-stand autoclaving and cleaning.

Caring for Industrial All Piercing

As we all know industrial piercing is not just an ordinary ear piercing, it needs more time to heal and more specific needs of care. Its healing time is six to twelve months, meaning more time and more attention needed. If you are worried about your sleeping position, you can use surgical tape while sleeping to protect the piercing.

Do not touch your piercing unless you are cleaning it. Our hands are basically the germs carrier, so do not touch or let others touch it while it is healing. You still have an open wound and unwashed hands carry bacteria and your piercing is in the condition where germs can penetrate below your skin and can cause an infection. Use only antibacterial soap in cleaning your healing piercing and only clean it twice a day. Showering is the most ideal time to do this. Here is the step by step process of cleaning it.

Make sure to wash your hands first with antibacterial soap before touching the piercing
Drip some plain water on your piercing.
Put few drops of antibacterial soap on the piercing and clean it using cotton buds.
Try to remove any crusted discharge from your skin and float it off the jewelry as well, loosen it using an antibacterial soap and cotton buds. Leave the antibacterial soap on the piercing for two minutes while carefully moving your piercing back and forth—allowing the soap to penetrate and disinfect it.
Lastly, rinse it well with water and allow it to air dry thoroughly.

Avoid touching and removing your jewelry too often. It is not advisable to use alcohol swabs, betadine or hydrogen peroxide, cotton balls or cotton swabs to clean your piercing. Only antibacterial soaps will do. If symptoms like pain, redness and unusual discharge occur, consult your piercer or a physician because these may be due to infections. To maximize your healing, take vitamin C and zinc and lastly; wait until your piercing is healed until changing jewelry yourself. Until your piercing is fully healed, avoid contacting it to another person’s bodily fluid. There are a lot of sicknesses that you can acquire through bodily fluids when it penetrates your piercing, such as: Hepatitis A, B, and C, and HIV. Such viruses are present in the blood, saliva, semen, sweat and vaginal secretions of infected persons.

Before, people connote piercing with wrong impressions. Body piercing has been around the world since the early civilization. History tells us that it has been practiced by many cultures since then.

Dated back on 9th century BC, a stone relief from Nimrud was the earliest evidence of body piercing. A 5,000 years old mummified body had an ear pierced in 7-11mm in diameter. Fade Away Methods:
Fade away methods are the newest development in Tattoo Removal. This method normally involves a series of creams/rubs that are absorbed into the skin. The series, used in combination, causes a reaction that breaks down the components of the ink, which the body then disposes. This procedure essentially speeds up your body's natural process of ridding your body of a foreign object –in this case it is ink. With time the tattoo becomes lighter and lighter, thus the tattoo “fades away.”
This perhaps is the cheapest and least painful removal method. This is the only method that does not have a risk of scarring. However, it is does take some patience. Results are not seen overnight
Surgical Methods:
Most surgeons caution patients that complete tattoo removal is not possible. Few surgeons guarantee complete removal. Beware if they do! This might be your first sign warning sign.
How effective the removal technique is depends on size, location, age of tattoo, colours and type of ink used.

Cryosurgery: This method involves freezing area of tattoo area prior to its removal.The removal technique often used is dermabrasion (This method involves removing all of the skin and the ink of the tattoo. A sanding instrument is used to "sand off" surface and middle layers of the skin. The tattoo is "sanded" with a rotary abrasive instrument in order to remove all of the skin. Bleeding is likely to occur. This procedure is performed under local anesthetic or local and oral/IV sedation. The price for Dermabrasion can range from $1000 to several thousands of dollars depending on the extent of the area treated.)
Excision: The tattooed area is cut out of your skin, and the surrounding skin is sutured together. This method leaves a scar. Only a small tattoo or a small section of a tattoo can be excised at a time. A larger tattoo may require several treatments and a skin graft. If it is a large tattoo skin from another part of the body might be needed
