Handmade Easter Project - Easter Chick in Egg Variation

Handmade Easter Project - Easter Chick in Egg Card / Picture

SUGGESTED CRAFT SUPPLIES SUITABLE FOR THIS PROJECT:

To make this card you will need:

White card paper (15 x 30cm)
Light green card paper (15 x 15cm)
Dark green card paper (15 x 11 cm)
Light brown card paper (apprx. 15 x 15 cm)
Piece of yellow card paper - chick
various other colours card paper- eggs
Brad
White gel pen
Double sided tape
Craft foam pads (I used Stix 2mm thick)

Instructions:

Take white card 15cm x 30cm and fold it in half. Take light green card paper (size 15cm x 15cm) and attach it to the white card using double sided tape. Take the dark green paper and cut out uneven triangles along the top line, then attach it to the light green card using double sided tape. Take yellow card paper and cut 2 circles (one smaller and one bigger) and attach them to the middle of the card (the smaller one above the bigger one and slightly overlapping) using double sided tape; that's the chick done. Cut a small triangle from a red card paper and attach it to the chick as a beak. Draw chick's eye with a black or brown pen. Then take a brown card paper and cut out upper and lower half of an egg. Then cut out uneven triangles on both halves of the egg. Using white gel pen (or any other colour of your choice) draw various shapes on the egg as decoration. Join the 2 halves of the egg together using a brad. Then attach the egg to the card over the chick using foam pads. Attach the foam pads to the lower half of the egg only. Cut out small eggs from cards of various colours and attach them to the dark green card using foam pads.

note:
If you do not want to make this as a greeting card but only as a decoration, just don't use the white card 15 x 30 cm.

Easter Project - Handmade Easter Basket Variation

Easter Project - Handmade Easter Basket

Last year I sewed an Easter bag for collecting all those hidden and found Easter sweets. This year I decided to make a paper basket. It's very easy and quick to make. Instructions are further bellow.

SUGGESTED CRAFT SUPPLIES SUITABLE FOR THIS PROJECT:

To make this basket you will need:

Card paper - colour and pattern of your choice - I used pastel green (30.5 x 30.5cm)
Card paper - colour of your choice - I used yellow (30 x 4 cm)
Scraps of various colours of card paper to make small Easter eggs decorations
2 brads
Double sided tape

Instructions:

Measure 8 cm from the edges of the 30.5 x 30.5 cm card paper and draw 4 lines.

You will have a 14.5 x 14.5 cm square in the middle of the card paper - this is the base of the basket. Join corners of the card paper with the corners of the drawn square - you will have 4 diagonal lines.

Cut the diagonal lines and fold up the corners with overlapping diagonal flaps.

Cut strip of card paper 30 x 4 cm and bend it in the middle. Using double sided tape secure the card together along the bend thus making the handle stronger. Resulting size is 30 x 2 cm handle.

Using 2 brads, secure the handle to the basket on each side thus also securing the overlapping flaps of the basket.

Cut small eggs out from card paper (various colours) and attach them to the basket using double sided tape.

Easter Project - Handmade Easter Rabbit Picture / Card

This Easter project was originally designed as a greeting card, however it can be used as an Easter decoration as well. It can be framed or you can just put a string through and hang it somewhere on display making it part of your Easter decorations. It is colourful and cute design and it's not difficult to make so it is also suitable as an Easter project for kids.

SUGGESTED CRAFT SUPPLIES SUITABLE FOR THIS PROJECT:

To make this card you will need:

White card paper (15 x 30cm)
Blue card paper (15 x 15cm)
Dark green card paper (15 x 11 cm)
Light green card paper (15 x 7 cm)
Piece of yellow card paper - sun
piece of pink card paper - nose and ears
various other colours card paper- eggs
Black beads - eyes
small round cosmetic cotton wool face pads
Double sided tap
Craft foam pads (I used Stix 2mm thick)

Instructions:
Take white card 15cm x 30cm and fold it in half. Take blue card paper (size 15cm x 15cm) and attach it to the white card using double sided tape. Take the yellow card and at its corner draw quarter circle. Cut it out and attach it to the top right corner of the blue card using double sided tape. Then take the dark green paper and cut out uneven triangles along the top line, then attach it to the blue card using double sided tape. Take a round cosmetic cotton pad and separate it into 2 pieces - this is to be used to make the rabbit (the fluffier inside part is to be on outside). Attach 1 piece of the round cotton pad at the bottom of the dark green paper and the other piece above this one (slightly overlapping) using double sided tape. Then take another cotton pad and again separate it into 2 pieces. Take 1 piece of the cotton pad and cut out 2 ears. Attach it to the card. Take pink card paper and cut out 2 smaller ears and a little triangle (nose) and attach it to the rabbit using double sided tape. Attach 2 black beads (eyes) to the rabbit using small piece of double sided tape. Then take the light green card paper and cut out uneven triangles along the top line, then attach it to the dark green card (over the rabbit) using foam pads. Then cut out small eggs from cards of various colours and attach them to the light green card using foam pads.

notes: If you do not have black beads, just cut 2 small round shapes (eyes) from black or brown card paper instead.
If you do not want to make this as a greeting card but only as a decoration, just don't use the white card 15 x 30 cm.

Easter Sewing Project

Easter is nearly here again. Last year I made an Easter bag (posted on my blog in April 2012). Originally it was intended for the Easter day egg hunt but we did not hide it in the cupboard after the Easter. It has been sitting on our kitchen shelve ever since, being used as a sweets' bag.

You can find the instructions bellow as published last year. Further bellow you can find some materials that could be used to sew this bag and that you can purchase directly from my online shop.

This year I wanted to make something new. I made an Easter basket from a card paper. It's very easy project and can be completed in a very short time. Keep checking my blog to see this project as well as some cute and colourful Easter cards that I will post on my blog in the coming days/weeks.

If you have already some sewing experience, you will find this sewing project very quick and easy.

You do not need a lot of materials for this Easter bag and you can use any scrap material leftovers you have. The more colourful the bag the better. After all, it is an Easter time and a spring and it is nice to see a bit of colour after the grayness of the winter time.

I used following materials:

2 pieces of 40 x 25 cm blue/green stripe
small pieces of pale yellow material (as a backing for ear, legs and tail)
2 x white facecloth (30 x 30cm each) - You can use any old towel
apprx 50 cm of beige rufflette webbing (width 2cm)
apprx 160cm of yellow rufflette webbing (width 1.5cm) - for the string and a decorative top edge of the bag
apprx 20 cm of yellow rufflette webbing (to make the bow)
charm or little bell to attach to a bow
and a black bead or a button
I also used a bit of white material as a backing for the body and head but you do not need to use the backing if the colour of your bag is light

Let's make the Easter bag.

Cut 2 pieces of size 40 x 25 cm for the bag. The next step is to sew the sheep on to one of the 40 x 25cm main pieces.

Here is a template for the sheep:

Cut 2 x legs, 1 x tale and 1 x ear from the yellow material (this will be the inside backing to create a colour contrast). When cutting, add a bit extra for the edge allowance for legs, tail and ear.

Then cut the body and the head from a white material - that material will be between the white towel cloth and the main piece bag material and you will not see it on the end product, but I had to ad this backing as the bag material is too dark and I wanted to ensure that the sheep's body will be pure white and the colour of the bag does not show through the white towel material. When cutting the body and the head, cut exactly as outlined on the template without adding any extra allowance as there is no need for an edge allowance. See picture bellow.

Secure all the cut pieces (legs, tail, ear, head and the body) on to the white towel cloth using pins and cut around.

Make sure that the materials for legs, ear and tail are the right side together. Sew these alongside the template outline (leave the bottom of these 4 pieces unstitched) and then turn inside out.

Take the head cut out piece and secure it with pins to the main bag piece (the white backing material is inside - between the towel cloth and the main bag material). Insert the ear underneath the head so that the head is overlapping the edge of the ear. Then sew around the edge of the head piece.

Take the body cut out piece and secure it with pins to the main bag piece so that it slightly overlaps the head already sewn to the bag (the white backing material is again inside - between the towel cloth and the main bag material). Insert the tail underneath the body so that the body is overlapping the edge of the tail. Then sew around the edge of the body.

To attach the legs secure them to the body using pins as seen on the picture bellow. To ensure that you do not sew through the tail when sewing the sides of the bag together, turn the tail onto the body and secure it with the pin to keep it out of the way.

Then take the other main piece (40 x 25 cm) and secure it with the pins to the other piece with the sheep sewn on. Ensure that the right sides are together and sew (right side, bottom of the bag - thus sewing through the legs and the bottom edge of the body, and then the left side of the bag) taking 1 cm allowance. Turn the bag through.

Sew the beige rufflette piece onto the bag as close to both of its edges as possible, leaving an opening for the string on one side. Then pull the yellow rufflette string (apprx 100 cm ) through. Then take the remaining piece of the yellow rufflette and sew it onto the top edge of the bag. See picture bellow.

And now those finishing touches.

Sew a smile on.

Sew a black bead (or a button) on as an eye. Tie a bow from the yellow rufflette and sew it onto the sheep. You can ad a small charm or a bell onto the bow.

Instructions:

Take white card 15cm x 30cm and fold it in half. Take a red card paper (size 15cm x 15cm) and attach the 2 designer papers (size 13 x 6 cm each) to it using double sided tape. then place a red ribbon across the red card and the designer paper as seen in the picture bellow and attach the overlapping edges of the ribbon behind the red card using double sided tape. Then attach the red card (15 x 15) to the white folded card using double sided tape. Take a cream card paper (8.5 x 8.5 cm) and draw a line alongside its edges with red promarker pen. Attach red heart to the cream card (using foam pads) and then attach 3 red and 3 pearl adhesive gems to it. Attach the cream card to the charcoal card (9 x 9 cm) using double sided tape. Attach the charcoal/cream card to the main card. Attach an outline message to the card.

Sewing Project - Cute Cat Cushion.

This is a cute cat cushion. Great as a decoration in children's room. You will need fabric, buttons, soft toy filling and Heat Bond Lite iron-on adhesive.
Draw the basic shape of the cat onto a piece of a material (2x) of your choice and cut it out. Draw (2x) shape of the tale and cut the tale out as a separate piece. Draw the shape of a face and the heart onto Heat Bond Lite iron-on adhesive and cut it out. Iron the 2 cut out pieces of the iron-on adhesive onto the materials of your choice and then iron the 2 pieces to the material that's to be a front of the cat. To make sure that the face and heart materials would stay attached, sew round its edges. Sew on nose and mouth and eye buttons.

Sew 2 pieces of the tale together leaving a lowest point of the tale opened and stuff it with soft toy filling. Then put 2 pieces of the materials (cat's body) together, secure it together with pins. Then attach the tale to the side of the cat and also secure it to the side of the cat with pins. Ensure that the tale is inside the cat, in between the 2 pieces of materials. This way when you sew the 2 pieces (incl the tale) together and turn the materials inside out, the tale will end up being on the outside of the cat. When sewing the body of the cat together, remember to leave some part undone so you can stuff the cat's body with soft toy filling. Then close the opening sewing it by hand. Hand sew the tip of the tale to the side of the cat.

Instructions:

Take white card 15cm x 30cm and fold it in half. Take a cream card paper (size 15cm x 15cm) and using double sided tape attach it to the white card. Stamp an image of hedgehog 3x on a white card and colour it in using letraset promarkers - blue (spines), yellow (letter) and brown (body) from Mid tones, red (hearts) from Christmas edition. To make the decoupage hedgehog, cut out the outline of the hedgehog (the 1st picture), then from the second stamped image cut out hedgehog spines, hand and letter and from the 3rd stamped image cut out hand and a letter. Using foam pads, attach the cut outs to the main picture of the hedgehog. Attach the decoupage hedgehog to the red card (10 x 10 cm) using foam pads and then attach the red card to the cream card, again using foam pads. Attach a red gem to the yellow letter and the outline message to the card.

Take white card 15cm x 30cm and fold it in half. Take a dark red card paper (size 15cm x 15cm) and using double sided tape attach it to the white card. Stamp an image of hedgehog on the yellow card (9 x 9cm) and colour it in using letraset promarkers. I used following colours - blue, pink, yellow and brown from Mid tones, red from Christmas edition. Attach the yellow card (9 x 9 cm) to the white card (10 x 10 cm) using double sided tape, then attach the yellow / white cards to the red card using foam pads. Attach 3 red gems to the card as well as the outline message.

Sewing Project - Alphabet Adder Bag

This post is about another sewing project. In the past few weeks I have been very busy sewing (I completed several sewing projects) as well as working on designs for Valentine cards.

I decided to make this bag after buying an Alphabet Adder puzzle intended as a Xmas present.

I looked at the box the puzzle was in and though that it would be much nicer if I made a bag for all the little wooden pieces to put in. I wanted to make it fun and colourful and of course, the picture itself had to be recognizable. I drew the shape of the adder onto Heat Bond Lite iron-on adhesive. Then I cut the picture into pieces. I chose bright colourful materials, first attaching the piece of the iron-on adhesive to the material of my choice and then attaching the material to the bag. I also added a smiley sun to the picture. Draw a circle onto the iron-on adhesive, cut it out, attach it to a yellow material and then to the bag. Using sewing machine I sew sun's rays directly onto the bag. To make sure that the materials would stay attached I sew round the edges. To complete the picture I stitched black beads on as eyes of the adder and sun. And at last, don't forget to hand stitch smiles onto the adder and the sun.

The puzzle itself is very well done and is a great idea teaching kids alphabet and numbers (numbers are on the other sided of the adder). If you like you can purchase it from my online shop. Just click on the picture on the right for more detail.

Instructions:

Take white card 15cm x 30cm and fold it in half. Take a pastel yellow card paper (size 15cm x 15cm) and using double sided tape attach it to the white card. Take brown card paper (9 x 9 cm), cut its corners using corner craft punch, then attach it to the yellow card using foam pads. Attach a flower outline sticker to a piece of white card paper and tear around the picture to create an uneven edge. Colour the outline sticker using gel pens. Then attach it to the brown card paper.

Sewing Project - Handmade Xmas Stocking

This post is not about card making project, even though that's what my blog has been mostly about so far, but a sewing project. I do like sewing as well. The difficulty is that sewing projects do require more "free" time than card making. However, this year I decided to make a Xmas stocking and so spent few evenings busy sewing. Yes, I could have just bought one, but it would not be the same.

I used Heat Bond Lite iron-on adhesive to attach materials of various colours and patterns to the red material, thus creating the picture. To make sure that the materials will stay attached I sew round the edges. To finish the stocking off, I sew black and white beads on.

I am in process of adding a sewing and patchwork online shop onto my blog. So if you like sewing, just keep checking back regularly.

Handmade Xmas Cards - Xmas Stocking with Stars

This is another of the quick and easy cards. Easy enough so you can make few of them in one evening and have them ready to post to all of your relatives and friends, just in time for xmas. Of course, you can use different Xmas outline stickers if you prefer, whatever you have in your craft box.

To make this card you will need:

White card paper (15 x 30cm)
Brown card with red shade (15 x 15cm)
White card paper (10 x 8 cm and a small piece to put a Xmas stocking outline sticker on)
Dark red card paper (8.5 x 6.5cm)
Message outline sticker "Merry Christmas" (optional)
Double sided tape
Letraset promarkers (Letraset Metallic Traditional Christmas promarkers - which you can purchase from my blog's Craft Magic Online Shop)
Xmas Stocking outline stickers
Craft foam pads (I used Stix 2mm thick)

If you don't have Xmas outline stickers, you can use Xmas stamps or embellishments instead. Click on pictures for more details:

Craft punches:

Instructions:

Take white card 15cm x 30cm and fold it in half. Take a brown card paper (size 15cm x 15cm) and using double sided tape attach it to the white card. Attach an outline sticker of the stocking on a piece of white paper and tear around the outline sticker to get the uneven edge. (if you don't have the outline sticker, you can stamp an image on the paper instead using a craft stamp) Colour the picture using letraset romarkers. Take a dark red card (size 10 x 8 cm) and cut out star shapes into the card using craft punch. Attach the dark red card to a white card (size 8.5 x 6.5 cm) using foam pads. Then attach the white card with the stocking picture to the middle of the dark red card. Attach it all to the brown card using double sided tape.

If you like, attach a "Merry Christmas" outline sticker to the card.

Handmade Xmas Gift Tags - Designer Card With String

To make these tags you will need:

8" x 8" Stocking Fillers Premium Paper Pad by First Edition Paper - you will make 10 to 12 gift tags from 1 sheet, depending on size of the gift tag you will decide to make
String (I used stranded cotton thread - grey or silver colour)

Take an 8" x 8" card sheet and cut out gift tags either 5cm x 7.5cm as I did (you will get 10 gift tags out of each paper) or 5cm x 6.5cm (you will get 12 gift tags out of each paper). Make a small hole at the top of the tag and thread the stranded cotton through it.

To make this card you will need:

White card paper (25 x 18cm)
Silver card paper (12.5 x 18cm and a small piece big enough to cut the snowflake from)
White card paper (8 x 8 cm)
Gold card paper (6 x 6 cm)
Message outline sticker "Merry Christmas"
Double sided tape
Silver adhesive gem
Craft paper punch - small snowflakes and a large snowflake
Craft foam pads (I used Stix 2mm thick)

To make this card I used silver and gold coloured card papers. However, the design would also look great using mirror silver and mirror gold card paper. Click on the picture bellow to see more detail.

Take white card 25 x 18 cm and fold it in half so that you end up with card size 12.5 x 18 cm. Take a silver card paper (size 12.5 cm x 18cm) and using double sided tape attach it to the white card. Take a white card (8 x 8 cm) and using edger scissors cut alongside the edges of the white card. Take a gold coloured card paper and using a snowflake paper punch cut out snowflakes shapes into the card. Attach the gold coloured card to the white card using double sided tape. Cut out a big snowflake shape from a silver coloured card paper and attach the silver snowflake to the gold card paper using a foam pad. Attach a silver adhesive gem to the big snowflake. Attach gold - white card with the silver snowflake to the silver coloured card.
Attach Merry Christmas outline sticker to the card.
