Inktober Day 31: Mask

2017-10-31T22:26:00.000-05:00

I made it! It's the end of Inktober. 31 days, 31 drawings. There were a couple days when I cut it close. Remember day 3's poison theme which was drawn on a Post-It? I'm surprised I made it past week one.

Inktober Day 31 Mask

My Sharpie, however, did not make it. It started to give out on this drawing. I intended to fill in the whole think except the outline, scar, and diamonds. Oh well.

That's my takeaway from Inktober. Since I do not have an extensive drawing background and years of practice, I had to select things that were within my ability to draw. This narrowed down what I could actually draw, but even with that restriction, I was able to make it to the end.

So that's it for Inktober and October! Now to get ready for NaNoWriMo.

Inktober Day 30: Found

2017-10-30T19:59:00.000-05:00

Look what you found. It's a locked chest. But what's inside? Treasure? Or something else?

Inktober Found

One more day. One more drawing.

Inktober Day 29: United

2017-10-29T12:13:00.001-05:00

United we stand, divided we fall. United States. United Airlines.

None of those things I could draw decently. So I drew a string of chain links.

Inktober United

It reminds me of "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac. Chain keep us together is kind of like keep us together, keep us united.

Kind of.

Only two more drawings left in Inktober!

Inktober Day 28: Fall

2017-10-28T18:33:00.000-05:00

After the climb, there's the fall.

Inktober Fall

I considered reusing yesterday's drawing and drawing the falling guy. But I wasn't exactly satisfied with how the twisting vines turned out in the climb drawing.

Inktober Climb vs Inktober Fall

Above is the comparison. I definitely like how Fall turned out.

Inktober Day 27: Climb

2017-10-27T23:39:00.000-05:00

It sucks running out of time for these things but here's climb in its weird Jack and the Beanstalk-esqueness.

Inktober Day 26: Squeak

2017-10-26T21:29:00.000-05:00

Probably the cutest drawing I've done this month. A royal squeaker for Inktober squeak theme.

Inktober Squeak

His Royal Squeakness. :)

Inktober Day 25: Ship

2017-10-25T20:41:00.000-05:00

Oh yeah. I went there.

Did you actually think I was going to draw a ship for the Inktober "ship" prompt?

Hahahahaha-nope!

Inktober Ship

But Amazon does ship. That counts right?

In my defense, I probably wouldn't have drawn a very impressive ship. I mean my Amazon box is mediocre at best.

Inktober Day 24: Blind

2017-10-24T20:14:00.000-05:00

I swiped from yesterday's Inktober drawing for juicy. I did consider drawing three blind mice but. . . that would have been quite a bit. I also don't have much time for drawing this week because of work.

So this is what you get for blind.

That nose, by the way, took freaking minutes to figure out! Like five whole minutes. I had to use selfie mode to figure out exactly how much nostril shows when you look at a face straight on.

Inktober Day 23: Juicy

2017-10-23T17:15:00.003-05:00

I feel that "juicy", like moist, is one of those words that make adults cringe. And it's definitely an adult problem. With all the innuendos we've been introduced to, it's a wonder how our vocabulary hasn't shriveled down to nil.

Juicy Tasting

P.S. Aren't Medusa piercings sweet looking? I mean, I'd never get one, but if you can pull one off that's awesome! Especially with some kicka** fangs.

Inktober Day 22: Trail

2017-10-22T15:24:00.000-05:00

Had some fun with this one. Initially wanted to draw a trail disappearing into a forest.

But then couldn't.

So I tired something that was similar to Inktober day 11's theme "Run". Since I couldn't draw a person or figure running, I drew RUN in blood on a wall.

For "Trail", I drew a candy trail leading up to a door being held open by something in need of a manicure. Ooh, spooky...

Inktober Day 21: Furious

2017-10-21T19:34:00.002-05:00

The angry eyes didn't pan out for this Inktober theme. That had been my husband's suggestion. Faces in general, let alone facial expressions are hard for me to draw.

The above is a common occurrence in our home. Birds at the feed, cats racing to the window (sometimes into the window) to get at them. Not usually a scene of furiousness but one of frustration for them.

Like the fast and the furriest.

Inktober Day 20: Deep

2017-10-20T18:53:00.000-05:00

Just like day 5's "Long", this was another one where I figured a lot of people would have to pick themselves up out of the gutter before drawing. What? Just me? Well, alright then. Moving on.

I drew a spelunker going spelunking.

Exploring the Deep Unknown

I only had my Pigma Micron and ultra point Sharpie to aid in the shading of the deep. That was rough, especially at the internal night of the bottom.

But I like how it turned out.

Inktober Day 19: Cloud

2017-10-19T20:33:00.003-05:00

Broke the cat theme and drew plain old stinking clouds and their shadows.

Meh. Clouds. xD

Inktober Day 18: Filthy

2017-10-18T20:20:00.001-05:00

The cat theme is still going strong.

Whenever I take the kitchen trash out, one of my cats feels the need to rub himself all over the bag. ALL OVER IT. And purr loudly while doing it.

Hence why he's happily sitting in a trashcan.

Inktober Day 17: Graceful (Pirate Cat)

2017-10-17T21:02:00.000-05:00

I asked my husband to name things that were graceful. He said a swan or a ballerina, neither of which I can draw decently. Then he said pirate cat.

The Great Tabby Pirate, Purrbeard.

What?

If you are unaware, there is a gif of a cat wearing a pirate costume walking on a beam. If you look up "Pirate Cat walking the plank", it should be the first thing that pops up.

It's probably one of the most graceful things you will ever see.

When the cat walks, the little arms on the costume shift as if they are part of the cat and since you can't see the back of the cat, it really does look as if it has a little pirate body.

I took some liberties with my pirate cat. I gave him a saber and an eye patch. Made him more sinister.

Inktober Day 16: Fat

2017-10-16T20:13:00.000-05:00

More "bad" than fat but I ran out of time for this drawing. Came home late for work, yadda, yadda. You know what I'm talking about.

Terribly (drawn) Tabby

But day 16 in the bag. Got only 15 days to go! Whoop-whoop!

Inktober Day 15: Mysterious

2017-10-15T20:18:00.001-05:00

First thing I think of when I see the word mysterious? Someone with their face covered either with a full or partial mask (think Phantom of the Opera) or a scarf or head covering with only their eyes showing. That leads me to think of Billy Idol's song "Eyes Without a Face".

Eyes Without a Face.

I always think of a woman holding a fan in front of her face with only her eyes peering over it. And since I suck at drawing hands (especially when I really, really want to draw a hand), we're just going to suspend reality and pretend it's a magical fan that can float in midair.

Or the mysterious lady can control it with her mind.

Whichever you fancy.

Inktober Day 14: Fierce

2017-10-14T19:45:00.000-05:00

My cats are both medium-longish haired. This means everything at home is cover in a tremendous amount of cat fur no matter what. Twice a year it seems we're in a shedding season, right before the winter coat starts to come in and in the spring when the winter cost is leaving (the latter season is much worse and they're both indoor cats!).

One of the cats enjoys grooming his "beard" or "chest beard". He'll tip his chin downward and lick his beard upward causing it to curl. And he hates when I comb it.

So Cat. So Fierce.

The beard looks like a mane when fluffed out and makes him look like a lion. I've been tempted to get one of those lion's manes from Amazon for him just for kicks and giggles. He'd hate it and it seems silly since he already has his own.

Inktober Day 13: Teeming

2017-10-13T20:43:00.000-05:00

Happy Friday the 13th!

The day made it easy to come up with an idea of what to draw (after I looked up what the definition of "teeming was). It's one of those words I feel I should know but had to make sure I had a good grasp on it. Don't want to embarrass myself and draw something completely different.

A Ladder Teeming with "Bad Luck".

I feel like I could have drawn more black cats. You know, for maximal teeming-ness but I stopped at six because after growing up with six cats I learned that adding a seventh (a male who wanted to rule the clowder) throws the whole thing out of whack.

And it was so frustrating coloring them all in. I swapped between a BIC pen and a Sharpie. I wanted them all black but I wanted their whiskers and parts that overlapped with the main body to show. Otherwise they would look like black kinda-cat-shaped blobs.

Inktober Day 12: Shattered

2017-10-12T20:49:00.000-05:00

It definitely didn't turn out the way I thought it would but it did turn out better than I expected (if that makes any sense).

I had to look at reference pictures of shattered glass and lenses in order to get a sense of what I was doing. I know the lines are suppose to radiate from the point of impact. In the drawing, there's supposed to too be three points of impact.

Shattered glass.

Knock on wood (or shattered glass) I've made it through 12 days of Inktober. Not yet the halfway point but I'll keep chugging along.

Inktober Day 11: Run

2017-10-11T20:22:00.001-05:00

I had a song get stuck in my head today. It was "Get Out Alive" by Three Days Grace (If you want to get out alive. Oh-oh. Run for your life.) Just the chorus part.

So it was funny how today's theme is run.

More like too late to run

I knew right off that I wasn't going to be able to draw anything running. Or rather, draw anything running that looked decent (aside from maybe a stick figure, but even that's pushing it). I settled for a brick wall that's at a slight angle. I used a red BIC pen. Not fancy but I was able to make it look like the blood was running down the wall.

That's a decent accomplishment, right?

Inktober Day 10: Gigantic

2017-10-10T20:43:00.000-05:00

Today was an emotionally rough day. We laid my grandfather to rest. Each time the priest said his name during the funeral mass it was like another nail being hammered into my chest reminding me that he's gone, he's gone, he's gone.

Death leaves a gigantic hole behind.

It both helps and hurts that I got to see him the day before he passed but it still feels raw in a way that words can't describe, you know?

Inktober Day 9: Screech

2017-10-09T11:34:00.000-05:00

Pokémon was the first thing that popped into mind when I saw today's theme. "Screech" was the move that dealt a big blow to your Pokémon's defense. I immediately thought of Zubat (although I think Golbat is when you learned screech) and Onyx.

Rowdy Little Zubats

I'm not going to lie. I hate Zubat so much. When you're walking around Mt. Moon or any other cave and every five steps the alarm bell goes off and it's Zubat a-f***ing-gain. One time (I'm sure everyone has had this moment), I finished off one only to take one step and it went off again.

As annoying as they are, you have to admit that they are kind of cute. And look, they're so happy to see you!

Quick! Get the max repel!

Inktober Day 8: Crooked

2017-10-08T20:07:00.000-05:00

Of the eight Inktober themes thus far, this one is the best. At first I wasn't sure what I was going to draw. I Googled what other people had drawn for this theme and saw a lot of crooked man drawings (maybe a creepypasta thing?). That lead me to the idea for a crooked nose on a crooked witch.

Crooked Witch and Beetlejuice Attire

And here is why the crooked theme is the best -- I didn't have to worry about straight lines or agonize over symmetry! I shouldn't agonize over symmetry anyway. Naturally, our faces are asymmetrical (not to the extreme like above), but I struggled with yesterday's drawing drawing my cat's eyes. They just HAD to be identical. With this drawing, I was able to let that go -- crooked nose, crooked teeth, crooked neck, crooked fingers, crooked cleavage (LOL!) and crooked face.

Today was an exercise in just letting things go and drawing what came to mind, and celebrating the crooked lines.

Inktober Day 7: Shy

2017-10-07T15:41:00.001-05:00

I knew exactly what I wanted to draw for the theme "shy".

Both of my cats are skittish around strangers. If there is a knock on the door, they both bolt from the room. If they hear anything that sounds like "knocking", they're at attention and ready to run.

I was tapping on a watermelon once and they both lurched from where they were resting, ready to seek out their favorite hiding place: under my bed.

She does have a bit of a "resting b***h" face.

One cat is a dilute Siamese mix. She has the markings but they are in shades of gray instead of the dark, chocolate brown the pure Siamese have. She's also not as chatty (but incredibly flirty with us) and takes longer to warm up to strangers than her brother (tan and white).

She's the first one under the bed when there's a knock on the door.
