MANILA - Filipino World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao tapers off his training regimen starting today, Monday, at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.

“Everything is there, power, strength, speed, stamina. Except for some minor improvements, I’m actually ready to fight,” Pacquiao said.

Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao training for Bradley fight

Pacquiao, who is defending his 147-pound diadem against undefeated world junior-welterweight kingpin Timothy Bradley Jr. on June 9 in Las Vegas, actually completed the most grueling week of his preparations on Saturday under the watchful eyes of Wild Card-owner and chief trainer Freddie Roach.

“We’ve also set in place our game plan and strategy. We just need to finalize them,” the fighting Sarangani congressman said.

Like when they pitched camp in Baguio City six weeks ago, Roach described the past seven days of tough grind as “very good,” as he proclaimed the 33-year-old ward as “almost ready to make war.”

What came as sort of a welcome development was the arrival in Los Angeles of Filipino assistant trainer Marvin Somodio, who flew in Friday night and rejoined the team Saturday.

After Saturday’s 10-round sparring, Pacquiao has so far logged some 90 rounds of ring skirmishes with regular sparring mates welterweight prospect Ruslan Provodnikov, lightweight Rustam Nugaev and featherweight Kevin Hoskins.

Provodnikov has been providing the eight-division champion the power approximating Bradley’s, while Nugaev and Hoskins the speed and mobility of the challenger.

Pacquiao’s timing and ability to keep his distance from the enemy, which were lacking when the team left Manila three weeks ago, have improved a lot, Roach said. >> Read More

Timothy Bradley - young, hungry and ready for Manny Pacquiao

It’s no more “Mister Nice Guy” with Timothy Bradley.

Timothy Bradley

Bradley, infamous for his “nice guy” persona, did a good job at throwing that reputation out the window during a talk with the boxing media on Friday.

Bradley seemed ready to throw down during the cal, but that will have to wait till he steps into the ring on June 9.for his megabout with Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas.

Bradley had a quick and spirited response when a reporter relayed comments made by Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach.

“I don’t care what Freddie Roach says; he ain’t in the ring and he ain’t fighting,” Bradley quipped. “I don’t care what he says. I know what I’m training to do and I know what I am prepared to do.”

It was somewhat a refreshing response from Bradley, perhaps one of the most polite fighters to grace the ring in recent memory.

“I don’t care what they say,” Bradley answered another question. “I don’t care what Pacquiao says. I am ready to go.” >> Read More

Manny Pacquiao pans anti-gay claims

LOS ANGELES -- Manny Pacquiao says he loves and supports gays and lesbians, even though he does not approve of gay marriage.

The world champion boxer and Filipino congressman has been criticized ever since he was quoted in an interview on the examiner.com website saying he opposed President Barack Obama's support for gay marriage.

"I'm not against the gay people. I'm not condemning them... I have a cousin (who is) gay. I have relatives (who are) gay. I have a lot of friends (who are) gay, so I'm not condemning gays. What I said is I'm not in favor of same-sex marriage. That's the one thing I said to the guy." - Pacquiao

Pacquiao said Wednesday in an interview with The Associated Press that he doesn't support gay marriage because of his Roman Catholic beliefs. But he said he has gay friends and relatives, and supports their rights.

"I'm not against the gay people," Pacquiao said. "I'm not condemning them. ... I have a cousin (who is) gay. I have relatives (who are) gay. I have a lot of friends (who are) gay, so I'm not condemning gays. What I said is I'm not in favor of same-sex marriage. That's the one thing I said to the guy.

"I told (the reporter) I'm against same-sex marriage," Pacquiao added. "He said, 'Why?' I said, 'It's the law of God.' That's all I said."

The examiner.com story contained a Bible passage from Leviticus calling for the death of "a man (who) lies with a man," and Pacquiao said many readers erroneously believed he had quoted that verse.

He said he had not, and the writer later clarified in a follow-up post that he had included the verse himself.

"My favorite verse in the Bible is 'Love one another,' and 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself,' " Pacquiao said. "It's in the Bible: Do not judge. I'm not judging."

Pacquiao was banned from a popular Hollywood shopping mall after the article was publicized Tuesday, and an online petition encouraging sponsor Nike to drop Pacquiao received 4,868 signatures before it was suspended Wednesday morning. The petition site, change.org, posted a note saying that the author of the original article had clarified that Pacquiao didn't cite the Bible passage. CONTINUE >>

Manny Pacquiao has no plans to retire

2012-05-15T07:51:00.000-07:00

Source: ESPN (Dan Rafael)

When Floyd Mayweather Jr. was facing Miguel Cotto on May 5 in Las Vegas, Manny Pacquiao – who boxing fans around the world want to see Mayweather fight – was arriving in Los Angeles on his flight from the Philippines with trainer Freddie Roach to begin the second part of his training camp.

Pacquiao vs Bradley

Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KOs) returned to Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club on Monday to continue training for his title defense against junior welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley Jr. (28-0, 12 KOs) on June 9 (HBO PPV) at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand, which also hosted Mayweather-Cotto.

After Mayweather outpointed Cotto to win a junior middleweight belt, Mayweather, who is headed to jail for an 87-day sentence on June 1, talked about a possible retirement.

Few believe Mayweather will retire and, given how much money he makes with each fight and the fact that he remains at the top of his game, it is unlikely that he will. But Pacquiao, at least, said he has no intention of retiring at this point.

“I saw the Mayweather-Cotto fight,” said Pacquiao, who must have seen it on a DVR or DVD. “It was a good fight and everyone [the fans] was happy. I have no opinion on Mayweather’s plans to retire. That’s his decision. A very personal decision.

“I’m glad to be back at Freddie’s gym. I have no plans to retire. I still love what I’m doing. Freddie and I had a good camp in the Philippines and we are ready to work very hard in preparation for Timothy Bradley. Bradley is strong, undefeated and young. I have a great deal of respect for his talents and his accomplishments." CONTINUE >>

Bradley has no fear of Pacquiao

2012-03-29T04:03:00.001-07:00

Timothy Bradley claims he will not be worried by Manny Pacquiao when the pair clash in Las Vegas in June.

Bradley is unbeaten in 29 fights and is viewed as a stern test for Pacquiao who will be putting his WBO welterweight belt on the line.

Timothy Bradley

Pacquiao is vying with Floyd Mayweather Jnr for the pound-for-pound title and is one of the biggest names in boxing.

Bradley is stepping up from light-welterweight, while it is also seen as a leap in class, but he has insisted he will not freeze on the big occasion.

"Manny Pacquiao is the biggest name in boxing, next to Floyd Mayweather," Bradley is quoted as saying on boxingscene.com. "But it's a name. He's a fighter. He's a human being. He has skill; I have skill.

"I'm not in awe when I see Manny Pacquiao. It's another fight to me. Take away all the cameras, all the attention, the media, put us in the ring and it's a fight. It's a fight to me." READ MORE FROM SOURCE > ESPN UK

Tim Bradley: "Manny Pacquiao Has Everything to Lose"

2012-03-10T00:15:00.000-08:00

Source: Fight Saga

Typically, when a fighter of Manny Pacquiao's star status fights a lesser-known challenger, the match-up has been cleverly and thoroughly conceived by the star fighter's team, including his trainer, manager and promoter. Their objective is to earn as much money as possible while keeping risks to a minimum.

Junior welterweight champion - Timothy Bradley

But Tim Bradley believes Manny Pacquiao and his team didn't do their homework when they elected to pencil him in as Manny Pacquiao's next opponent. "He's not fighting an old veteran, man - He's fighting a Tim Bradley in his prime. I'm hungry, determined (and) strong with the speed, power and ability to do what ever necessary to win," Bradley said.

Bradley thinks Manny Pacquiao, perhaps for the first time in his career, has his back is against the wall because there's fierce pressure on him to not only win, but win impressively.

"Manny Pacquiao has everything to lose in this fight. All the pressure's on him, man. It's not on me. Plus, all the expectations are on him - not on me," Bradley said.

"He's supposed to knock me out. He's supposed to get rid of me. And if he doesn't deliver that, I win. I'm not supposed to be in the ring with this guy, right? If he comes out with another lackluster performance, I win. If the fight is a draw, I win. He's got all the pressure on him and, I mean, I have absolutely no pressure on me at all." --> READ MORE

Pacquiao offers Mayweather a deal to save the mega fight

2012-03-08T04:34:00.001-08:00

Everyone has been debating who's ducking who? however, majority of the fans believed that the latest offer made by undefeated champion Floyd 'Money' Mayweather Jr. was never fair for Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather rejected a 55-45 split with the winner taking all the money from Pacquiao's camp cause he wanted Manny to take $40 million guaranteed purse with no pay-per-view revenue. Would you take that offer if you're eight division champion Manny Pacquiao?

Mayweather and Pacquiao

Now, an offer has been made by Manny Pacquiao's camp that the fans think Mayweather can not refuse. Pacquiao telling everyone that he really wanted the fight stating that 70 percent of the pay-per-view to the winner. According to GMA News .

Team Pacquiao has reached out to Floyd Mayweather Jr. with an offer of 70 percent of the pay-per-view (PPV) money going to the winner of a possible bout between Manny Pacquiao and the undefeated American fighter, Pacquiao business advisor Rex "Wakee" Salud confirmed to GMA News Online.

The 70-30 split is the latest in the back-and-forth negotiations between the two factions, as money has become the latest stumbling block to getting the fight, boxing fans all over the world wanted to see, off the ground.

So the question now is would Mayweather take the deal? Some say that this offer is good and no doubt Mayweather would want it, if he really wants to fight Pacquiao. Mayweather is clearly ducking Manny Pacquiao, His interview with Bob Costas Says it all

2012-03-04T06:56:00.000-08:00

Floyd Mayweather interview with Boby Costas

If you haven’t watched the Bob Costas interview with Floyd Mayweather Jr., I will post the video below this article so you can view it, if you did watch it and you are unbiased you would walk away with all the answers you needed to know for why this Pacquiao vs. Mayweather super-fight hasn’t happened yet or will probably never happen.

I would suggest that anyone who defends Floyd Mayweather Jr. after that interview or repeats Mayweather’s words and takes their facts from any speculations that come out of Mayweather’s mouth not bother replying because it will make you look utterly pathetic trying to defend Floyd’s stance.

Mayweather Jr. is clearly worried that Manny Pacquiao is a legitimate threat to his health and well-being because his response when the subject of Manny Pacquiao came up was to speak about “self preservation” and his health and family. Whenever a fighter mentions such words they are signs that they see that opponent as a danger to their health. I used to be a huge Floyd Mayweather supporter, but when I came to think things through without letting emotions get to me, I realized that Floyd Mayweather Jr. never wanted to fight Manny Pacquiao or a prime Pacquiao at least and it was clear that he was taking us for a ride and using Pacquiao’s name to sell his fights. >> READ MORE Source Nowboxing.com

Pacquiao's win over Cotto doesn't count - Mayweather

2012-03-02T07:46:00.000-08:00

SOURCE: ESPN SPORTS

Floyd Mayweather Jnr has dismissed Manny Pacquiao's 2009 victory over Miguel Cotto, saying he still believes that Cotto is an undefeated fighter.

Mayweather, who meets Cotto on May 5 in Las Vegas, claims the Filipino's 12th-round stoppage triumph should not be a stain on Cotto's record because the bout took place at a catch-weight of 145lbs.

Mayweather vs Cotto

The unbeaten American is climbing from welterweight to meet Cotto, the WBA light-middleweight champion, at his preferred size.

"You have a guy Miguel Cotto. He has two losses, but one of his losses is to a guy at a catch-weight, where he wasn't 100%," Mayweather told boxingscene.com.

"And you have another loss to a guy [Antonio Margarito] who was caught cheating in the sport. I'm [thinking] that I'm facing a guy who's undefeated. READ MORE

Floyd Mayweather Says He Will Not Give Manny Pacquiao A 50/50 Split

2012-02-29T04:30:00.002-08:00

Despite the challenges to Manny Pacquiao from Floyd Mayweather, the super-fight between the boxing superstars is still not happening. And, Floyd has just made it clear, he will not fight ... for a 50/50 split of the revenue it would generate.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.

In a news conference on Tuesday (February 28), in support of his upcoming May 5th fight against Miguel Cotto, Mayweather echoed his previous comments about how revenues would be divided in a proposed fight with Pacquiao, saying the Filipino boxer, or anyone else, will not get 50/50 in a fight against him.

"Just by speaking to Pacquiao on the phone, I mean, he's not one of the sharpest knives in the drawer," the undefeated boxer said. "He faces Floyd Mayweather, he's not getting 50-50. Not at all. No one is getting 50-50."

Pac-Man's team is demanding a 50/50 split, but instead, Mayweather wants to pay the boxer a flat-rate of $40 million.

While Mayweather continued his "take the rest"comments about Pacquiao, referring to a random drug testing stipulation, boxing media say that the payout is the real issue holding up what could be the biggest earning fight in boxing history. Pac-Man's promoter, Top Rank's Bob Arum, has said testing is not an issue.

"Bob Arum likes to match Top Rank fighters with Top Rank fights. He keeps all the money in house," Mayweather said. >>READ MORE

These other guys have lost (the fight) before they even get in the ring with him. There isn't anything about Manny Pacquiao that scares me," said Bradley. "I can be whatever I need to be when I get in the ring man. That's the thing about me, I can make adjustments, one minute I can be a counter puncher and then next I can be on the attack," Bradley added.

Pacquiao vs Marquez

A very young and hungry Bradley is confident that he can solve out Manny Pacquiao, "Marquez exposed his (Manny Pacquiao's) weaknesses. I see some things I can exploit," referring to Pacquiao's last fight. But now, look, I stuck to my plan and I've got this one in a million shot."

But the question is, can Bradley do what "most" of Pacquiao's opponents failed to do? Does he have what it take to knockout the eight time division champion? We'll have to wait for the 9th of June to come.

Bradley has the key to beat Pacquiao?

2012-02-12T04:10:00.000-08:00

Junior Welterweight Champion - Timothy Bradley

Junior Welterweight champion, Timothy Bradley has seemed to figure out a way to beat the eighth division champion, Manny Pacquiao. On an interview as discussed by Fighthype.com, Bradley expressed his thoughts on Pacquiao's style, "When I'm fighting, you never see me get hit every time with the same punch 3 or 4 times," though Bradley praised Pacquiao's ability, "I'ma tell you what makes Manny Pacquiao very, very special. Manny Pacquaio punches from the weirdest angles; the weirdest angles.
Shots you don't see, alright. He's here, he's there, he's underneath here, his body shots, so, and when he feints you, he wants you to cover up. He does. He'll drop a feint, and then soon as you drop a feint and you put your hands up, he'll run those combinations off of you; then spin around you, side step you, run those combinations off of you," explained Bradley, sounding like he knows how to beat up Pacquiao in the ring, "You come back on him, he'll lay up against the ropes, he'll put his hands up, he'll let you punch him. Well at that time, he's recovering. He's taking a breather. He's like, 'Okay, come on, come on.' Then after you stop, then he comes right back on you, you know?" Bradley also expressed his game plan and strategy on how to beat Pacquiao, "Isolate him with your feet, man. You gotta isolate him with your feet and good defense."

Bradley has already signed a $6million contract to face Pacquiao. Challenging him for the WBO welterweight crown on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The unbeaten junior welterweight champion stated that he is not intimidated despite Pacquiao's superstar status, "He's human. He has two hand and two feet. He's a man, just like me. Pacquiao - Bradley fight all set?

2012-02-11T05:57:00.000-08:00

Timothy 'The Desert Storm' Bradley wrapped up their deal on Friday. The Junior welterweight champion has signed a contract to challenge the eighth division champion and welterweight king, Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao. The bout is set on June 9 at the famous MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Junior Welterweight Champion - Timothy Bradley

Since the much awaited fight of Pacquaio-Mayweather has not pushed through again. A lot of boxing fans were disappointed that the Pacquiao-Mayweather bout has failed its negotiations, as both sides said to disagree with the purse. Mayweather announced last month that he will be fighting Miguel Cotto on May 5, moving up to junior middleweight. This issue is not new to the fans ears, but they still are anticipating that the match of the two top pound-for-pound kings to happen.

Timothy Bradley is one of the few top listed boxers to face Pacquiao. Though Manny Pacquiao has not yet signed the paperworks, his legal adviser, Michael Koncz told ESPN.com that he had committed to the pay-per-view fight.

Bradley will fight Pacquiao at the 147-pound division (no catch weight). Bradley, 28 in his prime has an unblemished record of 28 wins, no lose with 12 wins via knockout, can give a good match against the Filipino boxing champion. The other opponents Top Rank has discussed were a possible Pacquiao-Marquez fourth bout and Pacquiao-Cotto rematch.

Top Rank president Todd duBoef said, "I think Timmy is an incredibly skilled fighter. He has quick hands, quick feet, he's undefeated and he doesn't know how to lose. Tim Bradley is a winner. Manny will have to be on top of his game against Tim Bradley, who is in his prime. Manny has always taken on those challenges." duBoef added, "In Timmy Bradley, you're dealing with an accomplished fighter. He's a premier fighter in the 140-pound division and he's on everyone's pound-for-pound list in the top 5 to 10. He had a destruction of Peterson (in a one-sided decision in December 2009). He played with Peterson, who just beat Khan, and I was on the other end in that fight because I was Peterson's promoter. Bottom line, Timmy Bradley is a terrific fighter."
