Format of Revised GRE 2011

Education Testing Services (ETS) announced major changes to GRE Exam from 2011. The New GRE in 2011 is expected to be out from Fall 2011. Here is a quick summary of changes that will be made to GRE Exam in 2011.

Changes to GRE in 2011

All 3 sections in GRE will be revised (verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing)
Grading scale from 130 to 170
No More Antonyms and Analogies in GRE Verbal section (Good News)
Antonyms and Analogies will be replaced with reading-comprehension
Skip back and forth between exam questions. ( No more computer adaptability for every question)
Calculators are allowed in GRE 2011

In current GRE pattern, Verbal and Quantitative section’s score range between 200 to 800. In Revised GRE, scoring scale for Verbal and Math section will be 130 to 170 with 1 point increment. Analytical writing will be 0 to 6.

Fees for Revised GRE Exam

GRE Test takers can save 50% on Revised GRE, if you register to take the test between August 1 and September 30, 2011. As of now GRE test registration fees ar as follows

$160 – U.S. Puerto Rico
$205 – China (Hong Kong, Korea)
$190- all other locations
$140 – Subject Tests (USA)
$160 – Subject Tests – All other locations

No one has ever challenged it except Prof. P. N. Oak, who believes the
whole world has been duped. In his book Taj Mahal: The True Story, Oak says
the
Taj Mahal is not Queen Mumtaz's tomb but an ancient Hindu temple palace of
Lord Shiva (then known as Tejo Mahalaya ) . In the course of his research O
ak discovered that the Shiva temple palace was usurped by Shah Jahan from
then Maharaja of Jaipur, Jai Singh. In his own court chronicle,
Badshahnama,
Shah Jahan admits that an exceptionally beautiful grand mansion in Agra
was taken from Jai SIngh for Mumtaz's burial . The ex-Maharaja of Jaipur
still
retains in his secret collection two orders from Shah Jahan for
surrendering the Taj building. Using captured temples and mansions, as a
burial place for
dead courtiers and royalty was a common practice among Muslim rulers.

For example, Humayun,Akbar, Etmud-ud-Daula and Safdarjung are all buried
in such mansions. Oak's inquiries began with the name of Taj Mahal. He says

the term " Mahal " has never been used for a building in any Muslim countries
from Afghanisthan to Algeria. "The unusual explanation that the term Taj
Mahal derives from Mumtaz Mahal was illogical in atleast two respects.

Firstly, her name was never Mumtaz Mahal but Mumtaz-ul-Zamani," he writes.
Secondly, one cannot omit the first three letters 'Mum' from a woman's
name to derive the remainder as the name for the building."Taj Mahal, he
claims, is a corrupt version of Tejo Mahalaya, or Lord Shiva's Palace .. Oak
also says the love story of Mumtaz and Shah Jahan is a fairy tale created
by
court sycophants, blundering historians and sloppy archaeologists . Not a
single royal chronicle of Shah Jahan's time corroborates the love story.

Furthermore, Oak cites several documents suggesting the Taj Mahal predates
Shah Jahan's era, and was a temple dedicated to Shiva, worshipped by
Rajputs of Agra city. For example, Prof. Marvin Miller of New York took a
few
samples from the riverside doorway of the Taj. Carbon dating tests revealed
that the door was 300 years older than Shah Jahan. European traveler Johan
Albert Mandelslo,who visited Agra in 1638 (only seven years after Mumtaz's
death), describes the life of the cit y in his memoirs. But he makes no
reference to the Taj Mahal being built. The writings of Peter Mundy, an
English visitor to Agra within a year of Mumtaz's death, also suggest the
Taj was a noteworthy building well before Shah Jahan's time.

Prof. Oak points out a number of design and architectural inconsistencies
that support the belief of the Taj Mahal being a typical Hindu temple
rather
than a mausoleum. Many rooms in the Taj ! Mahal have remained sealed
since Shah Jahan's time and are still inaccessible to the public. Oak
asserts they contain a headless statue of Lord Shiva and other objects
commonly used for worship rituals in Hindu temples . Fearing political
backlash, Indira Gandhi's government tried to have Prof. Oak's book
withdrawn from the bookstores, and threatened the Indian publisher of the
first edition dire consequences . There is only one way to discredit or
validate Oak's research.

This is the story of "The Perfect Boss"

There were about 70 scientists working on a very hectic
project. All of them were really frustrated due to the pressure of work and the demands of their boss but everyone were loyal to him and did not think of quitting the job.

One day, one scientist came to his boss and told him -
Sir, I have promised to my children that I will take them to the
exhibition going on in our township. So I want to leave the office at 5:30 pm.
His boss replied "OK, You're permitted to leave the office early today" .

The Scientist started working. He continued his work after
lunch. As usual he got involved to such an extent that he looked at his watch when he felt he was close to completion. The time was 8.30 PM.

Suddenly he remembered of the promise he had given to his children.

He looked for his boss, he was not there. Having told him in
the morning itself, he closed everything and left for home.
Deep within himself, he was feeling guilty for having
disappointed his children. He reached home. Children were not there.

His wife alone was sitting in the hall and reading magazines.
The situation was explosive; any talk would boomerang on
him. His wife asked him, "Would you like to have coffee or shall I straight away serve dinner if you are hungry.

The man replied "If you would like to have coffee, i too
will have but what about Children?"

Wife replied "You don't know? Your manager came here at 5.15
PM and has taken the children to the exhibition "

What had really happened was ... The boss who granted him
permission was observing him working seriously at 5.00 PM . He thought to himself, this person will not leave the work, but if he has promised his children they should enjoy the visit to exhibition.

So he took the lead in taking them to exhibition.
The boss does not have to do it everytime. But once it is
done, loyalty is established.

That is why all the scientists at Thumba continued to work
under their boss even though the stress was tremendous.

A Mirror or a 2-Way Glass?????

How can you tell when you are in a room, restroom, motel etc. whether the mirror you find there is an actual mirror or a 2-way glass??????

Here's how:

I thought it was quite interesting! And I know in about 30 seconds you're going to do what I did and find the nearest mirror.

Do you know how to determine if a mirror is 2-way or not?

A policewoman who travels all over the US and gives seminars and

techniques for businesswomen passed this on.

When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc.,

how many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging on the wall is a real mirror, or actually a 2-way mirror?

Did you know that in a 2-way mirror, they can see you, but you can't see them?

There have been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in female changing rooms . It is very difficult to positively identify the surface by looking at it.

So, whenever you are looking at a mirror at a changing room or toilet, determine with absolute certainty what type of mirror you are looking at?

Just conduct this simple test:

Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the nail, like in illustration 2 above, then it is a GENUINE mirror.

However, if your fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of your nail, like in illustration 1, then BEWARE! IT IS A 2-WAY MIRROR!

and somebody is behind there looking at you though you cannot see him/her!

The Heist, Jump and Disappearance of Dan Cooper

Between 1967 and 1972, 147 skyjackers took
flight: Dan Cooper (an officer described him to the press as "D.B.") paid $20
for a one-way flight from Portland to Seattle aboard Northwest Orient Flight 305
on Thanksgiving Eve in 1971. Aboard, he handed the flight attendant a note that
said, "I have a bomb," and demanded $200,000 and 4 parachutes. His demands were
met; the plane was emptied and took off again. Flying at 10,000 feet, wings
flapped at 15 degrees and in virtual landing mode, the plane was low enough for
an easy jump.

At around 8:05 p.m., the captain asked, "Is everything okay back there?
Anything we can do for you?" Cooper yelled, "No!" Jumping into a storm, he was
never heard from or seen again. No one saw Cooper jump, whether his chute opened
or whether he got his money. Some wonder why he did not ask to fly a precise
route, request warm clothing or at least a helmet. To this day, Cooper pulled an
anti-establishment move in an era of Vietnam, remaining, according to some, the
one man who beat the established order, slipping past the feds and managing not
to physically hurt anyone, although others would claim he ultimately hurt

The Black Dahlia's murder
Imagine finding the naked body of a woman who had been
cut in half at the waist, lying on her back with her arms raised over her

was related to that of socialite Georgette Bauerdorf a few years back --

conclusive analysis difficult. Others attribute this to extraterrestrial

Portuguese coast. Some actually argue that these islands are the mountaintops of
the sunken continent of Atlantis.

Life Away from Earth

Another finalist from the top conspiracy theories list,
some have been busy trying to convince one another that Man is the only being
inhabiting the universe. Hmm, who said egocentrism was dead? To pretend that no
life form can exist anywhere in the world is close-minded, archaic, selfish,
unrealistic, and ridiculous. Admittedly, expecting aliens to land on
Independence Day to blow us into oblivion is also slightly inane.

Various specific events stand out, such as the Roswell incident, but they
all belong to the greater potential of life abroad. To argue that life can exist
elsewhere is reasonable. Clearly man as we know it cannot subsist in colder or
hotter climates, but there is more than meets the eye. Didn't you see E.T. after
all?

All jokes aside, the universe is too vast and Earth too small for us to be
alone. When we learn to accept human beings from our planet as our peers and
equals, only then will we be able to accept other forms of life beyond Earth's
atmosphere that will surely not look like us.

Undoubtedly, God's existence is the greatest
unsolved mystery. Over the course of history, people used religion and God more
as an explanation for matters they could not understand, and answers to
questions that they could not answer. With time, science and research showed
that things had other reasons behind them. Others have pointed to religion as a
spiritual recluse, and a relationship between the individual and whom one
perceives to be his Lord.

A look at ancient civilization points to a recurring cycle: people assume a
certain social phenomenon to be God's will, convinced there is no other way than
His. Plato wrote about virtue, and then the Bible told men how to live. As
various people throughout history have claimed different things, it was possible
that these were His words, but there was no guarantee.

Today, brother kills brother because of what God says, yet they are all
following the same God, theoretically. The important factor was that it was the
prophets' relationships with God that was important and influential. Today, most
will agree that human beings are an extension of God just as much as God is an
extension of the human mind, body and soul. We make God to be what we want Him,
Her, or It to be. As we move onto the 21st Century, God still seems to retain
his impact; it is his staff that is having difficulty standing.

However, Hiromi Kiriki created a concept that totally blew our mind, the Sony Nextep Computer, that can be worn on the wrist, detached and turned into a brilliant PC, as you can see in the following pictures.

Ø This concept computer is based on a fleixble OLED touchscreen and there’s also a holographic projector in the mix, to replace the screen. Extra keyboard panels will pull out from the device and social networking is also among the features.

Ø A wearable computer sounds a bit sci-fi, but think about Microsoft Surface and how it would have sounded like back in 90s… Thumbs up, to the designer of the Sony device!

We feel priviledged to share his experiences through this blog.

It is always wonderful to be with young people.

The funny thing about life is that you realize the value of something only when it begins to leave you.
As my hair turned from black, to salt and pepper and finally salt without the pepper, I have begun to realize the importance of youth. At the same time, I have begun to truly appreciate some of the lessons I have learnt along the way. I hope you will find them useful when you plan your own career and life.
FIRST

The first thing I have learnt is that we must always begin with our strengths. There is an imaginary story of a rabbit. The rabbit was enrolled in a rabbit school. Like all rabbits, it could hop very well but could not swim. At the end of the year, the rabbit got high marks in hopping but failed in swimming. The parents were concerned. They said, "Forget about hopping. You are anyway good at it. Concentrate on swimming." They sent the rabbit for tuitions in swimming. And guess what happened? The rabbit forgot how to hop! As for swimming, have you ever seen a rabbit swim? While it is important for us to know what we are not good at, we must also cherish what is good in us. That is because it is only our strengths that can give us the energy to correct our weaknesses.
SECOND

The second lesson I have learnt is that a rupee earned is of far more value than five found. My friend was sharing me the story of his eight year-old niece. She would always complain about the breakfast. The cook tried everything possible, but the child remained unhappy. Finally, my friend took the child to a supermarket and brought one of those ready-to-cook packets. The child had to cut the packet and pour water in the dish. The child found the food to be absolutely delicious? The difference was that she has cooked it! In my own life, I have found that nothing gives as much satisfaction as earning our rewards. In fact, what is gifted or inherited follows the old rule of come easy, go easy. I guess we only know the value of what we have if we have struggled to earn it.

THIRD

The third lesson I have learnt is no one bats a hundred every time. Life has many challenges. You win some and lose some. You must enjoy winning. But do not let it go to the head. The moment it does, you are already on your way to failure. And if you do encounter failure along the way, treat it as an equally natural phenomenon. Don't beat yourself for it or any one else for that matter! Accept it, look at your own share in the problem, learn from it and move on. The important thing is, when you lose, do not lose the lesson.

FOURTH

The fourth lesson I have learnt is the importance of humility. Sometimes, when you get so much in life, you really start wondering whether you deserve all of it. We have so much to be grateful for. Our parents, our teachers and our seniors have done so much for us that we can never repay them. Many people focus on the shortcomings, because obviously no one can be perfect. But it is important to first acknowledge what we have received. Nothing in life is permanent but when a relationship ends, rather than becoming bitter, we must learn to savor the memory of the good things while they lasted.

FIFTH

The fifth lesson I learnt is that we must always strive for excellence. One way of achieving excellence is by looking at those better than ourselves. Keep learning what they do differently. But excellence cannot be imposed from the outside. We must also feel the need from within. It must involve not only our mind but also our heart and soul. Excellence is not an act but a habit. I remember the inspiring lines of a poem, which says that your reach must always exceed your grasp. That is heaven on earth. Ultimately, your only competition is yourself.

SIXTH

The sixth lesson I have learnt is never give up in the face of adversity. It comes on you suddenly without warning. Always keep in mind that it is only the test of fire that makes fine steel. A friend of mine shared this incident with me. His eight-year old daughter was struggling away at a jigsaw puzzle. She kept at it for hours but could not succeed. Finally, it went beyond her bedtime. My friend told her, "Look, why don't you just give up? I don't think you will complete it tonight. Look at it another day." The daughter looked with a strange look in her eyes, "But, dad, why should I give up? All the pieces are there! I have just got to put them together!" If we persevere long enough, we can put any problem into its perspective.

SEVENTH

The seventh lesson I have learnt is that while you must be open to change, do not compromise on your values. Mahatma Gandhiji often said that you must open the windows of your mind, but you must not be swept off your feet by the breeze. Values like honesty, integrity, consideration and humility have survived for generations. At the end of the day, it is values that define a person more than the achievements. Do not be tempted by short cuts. The short cut can make you lose your way and end up becoming the longest way to the destination.

FINAL

And the final lesson I learnt is that we must have faith in our own ideas even if everyone tells us that we are wrong. There was once a newspaper vendor who had a rude customer. Every morning, the Customer would walk by, refuse to return the greeting, grab the paper off the shelf and throw the money at the vendor. The vendor would pick up the money, smile politely and say, "Thank you, Sir." One day, the vendor's assistant asked him, "Why are you always so polite with him when he is so rude to you? Why don't you throw the newspaper at him when he comes back tomorrow?" The vendor smiled and replied, "He can't help being rude and I can't help being polite. Why should I let his rude behavior dictate my politeness?

I hope you achieve success in whatever way you define it and what gives you the maximum happiness in life.
