Bowling Green Cheerleaders To Compete In ESPN Nationals

BGSU Cheerleaders are selected to participate in the upcoming finals for the Universal Cheerleaders Association College Nationals competition.

Anne Marie King, head cheerleading coach, said lot is ranked third in the taping and received a partial paid bid to nationals. Lot is one of three schools in Division 1A to be awarded a partial paid bid to the championship in the ESPN Wide World of Sports event.

College Cheer and Dance Team Nationals will be aired on ESPN in April 2012, King said.

Last year lot was placed first in the semifinals and fourth in the finals at the nationals in Orlando.

Emily Siegel, a sophomore cheerleader, said they are currently cheer for the game of basketball and football games and also make appearances in many other functions of the campus.

"Our goal is to promote the support of the crowd, school spirit and serve as ambassadors," Siegel said.

Jason Kurcsak, a senior cheerleader, who joined the band this past June, said team practices from 4-6 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, as well as Thursday from 6-8:30 pm

"With nationals coming up, we have added extra training in the sun for nearly three hours, the time variation due to the conflict of classes and work," he said.
During the holiday break, the cheerleaders with two practices a day until they go to nationals, Kurcsak said.

Even the cheerleaders are focusing on the nationals, they also participate in the stunt, which is the NCAA Emerging Sports Initiative to meet the requirements of Title IX, according to its website.

Stunt will provide an avenue for female athletes to use their cheerleading skills in a new format, said King. Initiative is focused on the technical and powerful part of the fun, along with partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, jumps and tumbling group.

Upcoming tryouts for cheerleaders stunt for the University will take place in April and include two days of clinics, which is a test of skill of a stunt cheerleader and gymnastic skills, said King. All tryouts will be judged by the King, his assistant and others in the university cheerleading experience.

Steffany Osborn, a senior cheerleader, said the tryouts generates generates a standing tuck, stunting and cheer.

Meet Texas Longhorns Cheerleader Kate Glover

In 2009 Kate Glover was featured as the Sports Illustrated Cheerleader of the Week. Here is the most interesting quote from her 20 questions:

The worst date I've ever been on was: When the guy I was out with thought it was a date and I didn't... I must have been so rude the whole time because I acted like we were just hanging out as friends! I didn't realize he had asked me out and that we were on a date!

A quick Google search reveals that she is now in the Austin real estate business. Here is her bio from there:

Kate Glover grew up in the small town of Olney, Texas and graduated as valedictorian from Olney High School in 2005. In 2009, Kate graduated with honors from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Communication Studies. While in college she was a member and the eventual captain of the prestigious Texas Pom Squad, the official dance team of University of Texas athletics. Kate got her real estate license her senior year of college and did real estate as a part time job, and now enjoys helping people find their next apartment, condo, or house full time. She also teaches dance at Lonestar Dance in Pflugerville and enjoys teaching jazz, hip hop, musical theater, and cheer/pom to ages 5-18 all the way through adults.

Courtney Pate To Join Baylor Acrobatic and Tumbling Team

Baylor University is to get two of the best graduation after Belton.

Thursday (today), Max Hogan signed a letter of intent country to accept a baseball scholarship to play for the Bears in the Big 12. He will join coach Eddie Cornblum anotherr product, the former Tiger teammate Dillon Newman, who was selected by Baylor last year.

On Friday (tomorrow), four years of high school All-American cheerleaders Courtney Pate signed to participate in acrobatics and tumbling Baylor University team, the school's newest NCAA Division I sports competition, one of six college teams as in the United States.

Both companies will be held at noon in the main gym of the tiger.

Mississippi State Cheerleader and Dairy Enthusiast Rachel Montgomery

Cheerleading and dairying may appear to have little in common, but Mississippi State University student Rachel Montgomery of Arkabutla, Miss.., Enjoys the same.

Montgomery said he was cheerleading for 13 years, but his interest in the dairy industry is newer.

"I took a class last semester animal science, and we have a dairy lab. That's when I found out about the students working there," she said. "I'm majoring in animal and dairy science, so I talked to some of my friends, who called the boss and wound up a job."

Montgomery said people will often surprise you to know that she was a cheerleader of MSU and a dairy worker because of the common stereotypes associated with each.

"I thought it was a big deal, but people in the dairy can not think I was a cheerleader," she said. "You know all the stereotypes of cheerleaders. That's what they thought at first, so they were really surprised to find out I'm really down-to-earth. The fun, they were excited about my work, but they do not really know much about dairy cows. "

Montgomery said balancing classes, work in the dairy, and fun training can get stressful, but he enjoys the challenge.

"Some days I go to work in the dairy at 3 am and then go have fun workouts for the 6 am and then go to class," Montgomery said. "After class, I'll work again at 3 pm and then cheer practice at 6 pm it works some days where I just have fun or just have a job, though, so nice."

Kenneth Graves, shepherd and manager of Montgomery MSU Bearden Dairy Research Center, said Montgomery's passion for cheerleading carries over into his work in the dairy.

"The energy and enthusiasm he has for cheering along with his work here because he's all in the best of his ability," he said.

Graves said Montgomery duties including milking dairy cows, cleaning the stall bed and feeding calves.

"No matter what it is, he'll do it without complaining," Graves said. "He'll get dirty and pick up 50-pound sacks of feed every day, and it does not bother her. He was one of the best student worker I've ever had."

As an animal and dairy science major planning to go to veterinary school, Montgomery said he was gaining valuable experience through his work with dairy cows in the middle.

"I've always liked the educational aspect of working with the cows, and I'm learning a lot through first-hand experience," she said. "In high school, I always wanted to do a mixed practice of small and large animals, but here I prefer to work exclusively with large animals."

Graves said he looks Montgomery's commitment will help her go far in his future veterinary career.

"He is what he is because he wants to do it, not because he could do it," he said. "He was not afraid of hard work."

Georgia Cheerleader, Sidni Vaughn, Sleeps With The Enemy

Sidnia Vaughn says her boyfriend is supportive.

Only one thing will not or can not do.

"My backpack is bright red with the 'super G' in it," said Vaughn. "He's going to take my luggage to others, but it will not lead to one."

David Scully probably deserves a pass for the length of the label. After all, how do you find a Georgia Tech kicker to bring a bag of Georgia?

Scully, a sophomore from Dawsonville, handles kickoffs for the Yellow Jackets. Vaughn, of Trion, Georgia is an animator. They have been dating for seven months, and when Georgia plays Saturday at the technology that will mark the first time that both are performed in the same stadium as a couple.

Scully and Vaughn say the rivalry between the schools has been a source of playful pranks since even before we started dating. But Vaughn says: "He hates to Georgia more than they hate technology."

Vaughn said he believes that sentiment also applies to the rivalry in general. She notes that the jackets Georgia expressed disgust every time they sing their fight song and the deployment of ruin Ramblin '.

Scully smiles at the idea of implacable enmity toward technology Bulldogs.

"We sang," To hell with Georgia throughout the year, "he said." It's a great thing to come in and beat Georgia. They have won many games recently. We like to end it. "

Scully and Vaughn expect the relationship to survive intact regardless of the outcome. In fact, Vaughn and Scully already has over bridge divides the rivalry to achieve a certain degree of popularity from the other side.

It turns out that Scully is something of a cult hero among some fans Georgia. It all started when he wore neon green heels for the Georgia Tech game last season, attracting the attention of the student section.

Some of the students later launched a Facebook fan page for him - or, more precisely, the page is devoted to "tacos David Scully."

Scully went to Athens to support Vaughn for the game against South Carolina Georgia in September. He had a ticket, but managed to get into the game. Vaughn did not know what he did until he heard Georgia students chanting the name of Scully.

Scully had nothing to indicate their loyalty,

"I was trying to be a sort of incognito," said Scully. "I was not really cheering against him, but no joy for them."

Vaughn had a game-day meeting with Scully before she met him. When the Jackets played in Athens last season, was encouraged by Scully as he prepared for the game and Georgia students urged him to get in your way.

Vaughn later Scully met by her roommate dates of Scully's teammate, Tyler Morgan. Scully joke teammates who were expelled from their coverage by landing Vaughn.

Rib that some of the relationship between the rivalry, but the truth is like the layout.

"It's more along the lines of, 'Hey, when are you going to take to meet some cheerleaders?'" Said Scully.

Vaughn confirmed that his teammates often ask Scully on his teammates when technical visit. He has been in a couple of games this season jackets (an injury sidelined him for several weeks), but she said there was no technical paraphernalia as it could cause problems with your computer.

So there are some lines that Vaughn and Scully will not cross. The next test will come in the late Saturday game, and Vaughn is concerned about how she approached Scully, if the Bulldogs win.

"I do not know if I want to talk with him," said Vaughn. "I told him I wanted a picture together after the game. He said, 'If we win, they will storm the field and are surfers." I said I better come say hello, win or lose. "

The idea that the game could cause problems with Scully Vaughn makes big smile even more upset thinking about the Jackets' for the Bulldogs.

"It's fun to joke around," said Scully. "She is very pretty, not the date."

Washington State Cougars Cheerleader Jasmine Goodwine

Husky Jasmine Goodwin was born, the daughter of the University of Washington football player. But it's a Cougar now, a 20-year-olds in the state of Washington, majoring in communications. She is a 2009 graduate of Snohomish High School.

I'm a cougar, and nothing less. I can eat cheese cougar gold, and I bleed red and gray. I attend the same school that produced Edward Murrow, and I am not a "UW refuse." I received letters from both schools. The University of Washington went away almost immediately. The most important thing is that I'm a Fan undefeated. However, my life began Coug different than most, because I was born as "one of them."

Twenty years ago, the Husky football team was without doubt the best season in school history. The 1991 Apple Cup brought glory to the University of Washington, winning the match en route to an undefeated season. The 1991 season ended with a glorious victory in the Rose Bowl 1992 and a co-national championship. I was just a newborn baby at the moment, but I was there for every minute. I sat in my mother's arms, on the sidelines during every game because my father, James, was on the field, as a member of the Husky football team as a walk-in the corridor.

Occasionally I remember my past as a Husky, with my greatest memories of being a set of rings given to team members for their wins Apple Cup and Rose Bowl. Over the years a close relative in my mother's side has secured the rings stayed with me, it's like I can still have them today. When I have these rings in the palm of my hand, I can not stop smiling. My name, which I share with my father, is part of the rings in large print. To see my name and know that I was able to move from my shameful past as a Husky, gives me a sense of inner peace and fulfillment only a former Husky could understand.

Despite being a former Husky, continued to grow as a cougar every day. My past just reminds me how far I've come. In 1992, I was dressed as a cheerleader baby Husky to see how the team left the plane at Sea-Tac's triumphant victory Rose Bowl. I've seen old newspaper clippings of the event, and photos of my father lifting me proudly in the air. Little did anyone expect that child to a day in the Apple Cup, tailgating and cheering, all in the name of the Cougs. I can not explain the exact moment that made "change". However, I know the first time I came to Pullman school during a school visit, I felt an incredible feeling that I never expected: I felt like I was finally home. It's not something that is easily explained, and is a sensation only Coug can understand.

2011 Apple Cup will mark 20 years since the Huskies brought glory to the University of Washington. Just when I was in 1991, I will be there for every minute of it. Except this time I'll be a little older, much wiser, and encouraging a good team. Could have been born as a Husky, but I was born to be a Coug. GO COUGS.

"It's kind of sad. Homecoming will be different, football games will be different. You kind of have to see it from the other side," said Carolina Espinoza, TJC student.

The other side to this story involves the apache cheerleading coach. He resigned from the position in April to accept a job in Dallas. After he left, the college took a second look at the program.
"I feel like there were other things that could have been cut. But I know since the coach left, it was the best way to cut our budget," said Espinoza.

CBS 19 spoke with two of the cheerleaders by phone. They say they're still upset with the situation and declined an on-camera interview. College administrators say, so far, only one cheerleader expressed interested in returning to school in the Fall.

"We stand to look at losing about $4.5 million over the next three years in budget cuts. So, like everyone else we have to tighten our budgets," said Dr. Johnny Moore, VP of Student Affairs.
Dr. Johnny Moore said the cheerleading squad is the latest casualty of an unstable economy. But the Vice President of Student Affairs views the temporary loss as an opportunity to get other students involved.

"Yes, the program will be missed. But at the same time it will be a chance to be creative and involve the student organizations on campus," added Dr. Moore.

The sidelines may be a little quieter this year, but TJC students say their spirits will still remain high.
"I have a 100 percent belief that we will do just fine and keep that Apache spirit up this year," said Anieca Pickitt.

The TJC cheerleading squad was formed in 1946. College administrators said this is the first time this has ever happened.

A decision will be made in August on how other student organizations will be used on the sidelines. Although the college put the program on hold, it will honor cheerleading scholarships this upcoming year for qualified students.
