A Little Dirty

Hello everyone...I hope you all are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel from all this WINTER WEATHER...I am beginning to think we are gonna just stay WINTER FROM NOW ON!!!

A bit back we moved and all the little things that come after...Can't remember where you put things..are you ever gonna find things... why did I put that there?...And where did that come from....LAUGHS!!

One thing that was new to us was a full size dishwasher, and getting my husband to put dirty dishes in it was like pulling teeth..
Maybe because I always took care of that...
He would wash them by hand though... I give him points for that..

His excuse to me was "I don't know if they are clean or dirty...I am sure many of you have that same problem from at least 1 of your family members...SMILES..

So I remedied that ....

I made this too cute sign for the front of the dishwasher.
Clean on 1 side and Dirty on the other..just flip over...too simple..even my hubby can do that...LAUGHS!! Sorry Alan...

Now you have to admit...TOO CUTE!!!

I liked it so much, I decided to make a cover for my Kitchen Aid Mixer to match...SMILES...

I may even do a tutorial on this one...
It is lined with black fabric, and could be reversed if wanted...:)

I am happy with my new kitchen theme...and I was not trying for it...LAUGHS!!
But this Rooster Fabric was the perfect 1 for these projects...would you not agree?

So back to the trying to find things...and maybe never finding them...who knows...I really do not like to MOVE!!

Hopefully the Mother Nature will have mercy on us and give some pretty weather soon, and I can finally get to start on the shop...OMG that is a whole other story...
Have no clue where all that is gonna go...
Maybe out by the side of the road FREE!!!

The move is over!!!

Finally we are MOVED, and my new sewing space is up and running...I was having withdraws..SMILES!!

It took so long to get started again, I had to practice on a couple small projects to get my legs back under me...LAUGHS!! But I am now back to the projects that I had to put aside for the move and going strong.

I did manage to get a couple gifts completed before Christmas..

A couple mug rugs for friends who love to ride..

Even though I have new labels, I simply stitch my name in most of my products.

Love the colors on this one...She loved it!!
A makeup brush for another friend and she loved it too!
When I found this fabric, it screamed her name....LAUGHS

Here I added a new label to the front of roll.
I added contrast with interior fabrics, and covered back fabric with vinyl to keep it clean from the brushes.
That is about all I got finished before Christmas, but I did manage to finish a couple projects I had started during my visit to Texas...They loved them too...It makes me so HAPPY when people like what I make for them and appreciate the love that went into each stitch...

NOW TO THE MOVE.....OMG I HAVE TOO MUCH STUFF!!! I HAVE BECAME A SEWING HORDER!!!

In my last post I promised the steps to my new space...GET READY...it is crazy!!

This is the last of my old sewing space..
look at that 1 lonely window...that was all the natural lighting I had....SADNESS.

And the chaos begins...

Every thing was just shoved into the room and then I had to make heads and tails of it.

You can see my coffee cup in this one...I drank loads of that.. AND LOOK AT ALL THAT NATURAL LIGHTING....WOOHOO!!!

but I never back down from a challenge..so off to work I go...LAUGHS!!
I tried to to through things as I organized, but I am thinking I will have to do that again and PURGE MORE!! Here is a neat little cabinet my son found on the side of the road and picked up for me...It is very old..and works great as a printer stand...And I just love it...THANK YOU BLAKE!!

As you can see I am slowly making progress...LOL

I kept going until I had some room to work and it was getting more organized as I went...

As you can see the shelves are filling up and still have not got the TV mounted...But hey I do have my stereo up and functional.
Got to have MUSIC!!
Here I have my track light up over my cutting table and more shelves mounted for more storage..I tried to put things I used most close to what area I use it in..
Here I mounted my New Shop Vac my oldest son gave me for Christmas...it is great, it has very small attachments that do a wonderful job on my machine when cleaning...gets all the lint and dust right out...BIG SMILES!!

Finally I have the TV mounted..Gotta have Law & Order SUV..and Castle...

Here you can see part of the antique hanging lamp I rewired and replaced all hardware...It works great over my sewing machine...Lots of extra lighting...You can never have too much lighting..
And now my sewing space is somewhat organized..and my BABY is unpacked and ready for work!!
My little ironing board mounted on the door closest to my machine and all the supplies organized close to hand..And Finally My babies are there for support and any helping hand that can offer...MiWi loves to keep my chair warm...and at times there is a battle to get it back...LAUGHS

And of course Bandit...he just makes sure all is well, mama is ok, etc..and I swear that dog watches my so close, he knows my every move...it is amazing to watch him watch me...You can see the wheels turning...and most of the time you know just what he is thinking...SMILES!!

And that is about it for now.. I have not even gotten to my closet..that is a whole new blog I swear...LAUGHS!!

Just imagine a large walk in closet crammed full of sewing and any other art supplies I need to keep in an controlled environment...but hey it is organized.. I am determined to make the most of any space I have..
Thank goodness, we have a large shop, and my husband has offered an area to me for my studio..BIG SMILES!!

I know it is a small space, but I am happy with it and I know I will make beautiful things in there...BIG SMILES!!

Well I hope you all enjoyed...and Do come back soon...Maybe now with things somewhat calmed down and I am in a happier home...SO MUCH LIGHT....I love the SUNSHINE!!

Where has the time gone???

Hello Friends..

Things around here have been super busy...and crazy..
I have managed to get a few things completed since last post..but then came the Holidays...Thanksgiving, the Christmas Rush, and NewYears...and to top it all, we are moving...OMG!! I have toooo much stuff!!

I am purging people!!!! If I have not worked with it or on it or for it in the last year...it is Bye!! Bye!!

This is one project I managed to get done...I actually made 2 of these REALLY LARGE BAGS...
I can pack so much into this bag....a great over nighter or weekend bag.

I put many pockets inside for all kinds of storage...

And a snap closure to keep it all intact...

And this is the quilt top I am making for my Step-
Daughter...
I also made a couple gifts for Christmas and am STILL working Christmas....it has been put on the back burner until we are moved and I have my sewing room set up again..

There is so much Chaos
in both my homes at the moment.

This is the baby quilt I managed to get completed around Thanksgiving.

I made it for the daughter of a good friend whom passed away last year...

This was her first child...

I brought the front to the back and made a label with all the birth information...

She loved it and will Cherish it forever...

purging...It is amazing how much you accumulate in such a short time...

I will not have a Art Studio in the new house...I plan on just organizing the art stuff where it is easy to get to and use when I need too...

I will have fun sitting up my new Sewing Studio...I plan on taking photos along the way...and sharing with you all..

I will take any suggestions...organization, display, storage...etc..it is a small space..and I have to cram alot of sewing supplies into it...LAUGHS.

As it is now we are planning on being in the new house this weekend...weather permitting...We have already moved a lot...my kitchen is done, the dining room is done, and part of the living room is there...

I am really dreading my closet!!! I will be purging clothes right along with other things....

Well that is about all I have for now and I hope you all come back to see my progress.
And like I said ANY SUGGESTIONS are greatly appreciated...

Bags and Mug Rugs

Happy Fall Y'all..

I have been so busy sewing and quilting that I have not had time to devote to my blog. I have been making birthday presents and mug rugs and now starting on a baby quilt...

First the Birthday Gifts, all the kids got bags this Birthday...The "Chase" Bag, The "Blake" Bag, and A Messenger Bag for my Step-daughter...

"Chase came first...his was a large bag that he could put his racing things in when he goes on trips. I got him to send me a pic of his Logo and I made 1 and appliqued to the front of the bag.

I added lots of pockets throughout the bag for organization. Slip pockets in the interior and a zip pocket on the back.

The colors are his racing colors and it is very large...
Final measurements were 10" x 16" x 25" with a concealed zipper top that allows the whole bag to open for complete access...

When he got the package, he texted and said it "Was Awesome"

That put a smile on my face...he usually just says...it is ok...or it is cool...etc...
So I know he liked it....BIG SMILES!!!

"Kaela" was next, my stepdaughter, she wanted a bag like mine...which was a messenger bag, that she could carry to college and that would also hold her laptop...

I already had the pattern made for that...all I had to do was downsize the measurements a little to fit what she needed...

She picked the colors and I added some others that really brought out the lesser colors in the main fabric...

I also added another pockets to this messenger bag...a zipper pocket in the back.

She loved it!!!

Another Happy Customer!!

"Blake" was the last Birthday bag to make...
Blake wanted a lunch bag...he told me Blues & Browns or Beige's... so I went shopping for fabric...
I purchased some Blue print and then some very small Blue pokadot...
Later I found some more that I liked better and decided to purchase more...LAUGHS..
Hey I can always use Blue in my fabric stash!!

The Blue print that I decided on was a darker Blue with small squares in lighter tones of Blue...
and then the contrasting fabric was a Blue and White art deco print...

I looked through many patterns and then got to designing...

He wanted it to be washable on the inside and not much larger than the one he already had...he was limited on spaced in the Frig at work...Wink...Wink..

I decided to add slip pockets on the inside that would hold smaller things he wanted to keep separate, or an ice pack to keep things cool...

I also added a zipper pocket in the back side as well...all pocket were vinyl lined and washable...

I used Pellon Iron on Vinyl to the fabric for the lining and pockets to make them washable...
It is very easy to apply and so much easier to work with than regular clear vinyl and you can sew it.

The inside turned out great!!!

I also made a placemat to match in interior with the vinyl cover as well....

I made the bag similar to a doctors bag with a large zipper. This style allows the whole bag to open for accessibility. I used some Beige Cotton Duck fabric on the bottom to add support and also for the handles...

I add decorative stitching for my top stitching along the top of the duck fabric. I tried to stick with something that would go with all the shapes going on in this bag...

I added my label to the back.. You can see how long the zipper is in this photo... and the handles..

And the finished bag final measurements were
6" x 8" x 10" just a tad bit larger than his old bag...and I added his monogram to the front of the bag...
The poka dots may give it a feminine flare...but, I like it and he said he did too...so that is all that matters...
I guess you could get technical and call it a Man Purse Lunch Bucket...

"FALL MUG RUG SWAP"

I participated in another mug rug swap, this time the theme was "Fall"... After talking with my partner, Sandy, she lives in Colorado, we decided we would surprise each other with our mug rugs..."Fall", "Christmas" "Everyday"

I ended doing a couple "Fall", and a "Christmas" and a couple things that were just because...They were 2 pincushions, and a quilted glass / sun-glass case...

The Owl is also a wall hanging as it is a bit larger than a regular Mug Rug...

This can also be hung, as I attached wall hanging corners on the back of the mug rug...

I forgot to get pictures of the pincushions, but one is a Friendship Spool Pincushion, and the other was a Skinny Pincushion that goes great by your machine...I used bright fabrics for these...the skinny was some cute fabric I found the other day...

This is a picture with the fabric...but the small scrap bucket is for my sewing room...SMILES..

And now I am finally getting started on a Baby Quilt for a very good friend of mine, whom passed away, baby girl whom is having a Baby Boy...

Hello Friends,

If you have noticed my blog maybe has changed...I have been trying to get a new site up and going for about 2 months now and it is DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!

My new domain is www.atouchofhink.com which was supposed to be a stand alone domain that pointed to my blog...well somehow my www.cclrlycreative.com got mixed up in there somewhere and it DISAPPEARED IN THE WEB HOSTING SPACE NEVER TO BE FOUND AGAIN!!!

So I am still dealing with that and WHO KNOWS HOW IT WILL TURN OUT....

I have been Sewing thought...I always try to find time to sew...SMILES!!
First I want to tell you about my new Iron Water Bottle. I saw this on an episode of Fons & Porter a tip that a reader had sent in. I got mine at Sally's Beauty Supply and the top locks down to keep it from spilling and when filling your iron, the little nozzle works perfect with no bubbling over in the fill hole...

Look what I found on Sale...I don't know what I am gonna do with it yet...But I just fell in love with the colors...LAUGHS!!!

This is another I just fell in love with...I know I will be using this SOON! Wink...

I have been making bags for my kids for their Birthdays, I am still in the process of that...The first one I just completed was my own NEW DESIGN, and it was Trial and Error....Many ripped stitches...but in the end, it turned out Great and my youngest son loved it...

I just completed a Kennel Cover for one of my dogs. He is such a FREAK when we travel. He has to be in the lowest darkest place in the Tahoe and it does not matter how he gets there...ripping out wires...climbing over things...you name it, he is going to get there ONE WAY OR ANOTHER...
So I have had to resort to traveling with him in his kennel...and he would so stressed I had to do something.
One day I grabbed a black backdrop from my photography studio and just covered the whole kennel...That seemed to help some...WELL THAT ALONG WITH THE HAPPY PILLS MY VET GAVE FOR HIM...

So I decided if he had to be covered, he was going to have a cute cover...and BLACK of course!!
I just used the backdrop for my fabric and got to measuring and cutting...I cut the sides and back and top first.
I then decided that I wanted some COLOR...IMAGINE THAT...WINK!!
I had some fabric put back to make them a quilt and I got this Cute Print out and decided it would be the contract fabric...
I decided I wanted windows in the sides even though he need dark, in our house there is no need for the whole thing to be enclosed. I had to line the red with black fabric, kind of like light filtering curtains...LAUGHS..

I decided what size and where I wanted them and made my window panel and then placed it on my side panel and marked with a chalk pencil. I then measured in 1" marked then in another 1/2" and did the same...

I stitched around the 1" line and then cut out with a ruler and rotary cutter on the 1/2" line to make a window...I had made a miter mark in the corners and when cutting, careful not to cut into the stitching you just finished.

Then I folded the fabric to the wrong side along the stitched line and pressed with a hot iron and steam.

Then I top stitched it close to the edge to secure it.

I then attached my window panel matching the lines that I drew when first starting

I started with tie straps to keep the window closed and that changed, I would have to have so many to keep it closed secure enough for my CRAZY DOG!!

So I took all them off except the top ones that would hold the window open. And attached Velcro instead...that makes so much more sense and EASIER..
I had left my front open for a reason, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT I WANTED TO DO...LAUGHS.

I decided to cut a header strip and two side strips around the door opening and attach them to the rest of the cover. I hemmed my side panels and back panel using 1" of the fabric, folding 1/2" twice and stitching along the top edge of the fold. Then I stitched my side panels and my back together first...making 1 LONG piece.

Then I started working on the top. BANDIT HAD TO HAVE HIS NAME ON HIS COVER...RIGHT...SMILES...

I made the letters and Appliqued them to the top panel. CUTE HUH...wink..wink..

I then attached my top panel to the sides and back. I tried it on the kennel to decide how to make the smaller strips around the door opening...It was looking good so far....

I made my door the same way as the window panels but much larger...have to cover all the holes you know...I don't know why Bandit is like this..he has rode in a vehicle since birth...WEIRD

I also attached Velcro on the door panel as well. Then stitched to the top panel. And just the finishing touches and it was ready for the kennel...

The whole thing is completely BLACK when all the openings are covered.. CRAZY DOG will love that...and with the windows and door open, there is plenty of air circulating keeping him cool...

After he got in and checked it out..I think he approved....BIG SMILES....

Now making LITTLE MISS MIWI'S!!!

thank goodness she is not as FREAKY AS BANDIT!!!!

note book binder strap

Hello Friends, I hope you are all doing well...and that everyone had a Great Holiday Weekend...

I have been busy doing NOTHING....LAUGHS... Actually been very busy but can't seem to get anything accomplished.

Let me start by saying if you are having problems finding my blog...I AM SORRY.... I am currently working on my web site www.cclrlycreative.com and my blog getting it's own domain...and well it has been an experience..After I get it all straightened out I need to do a post about my whole experience with the WHOLE MESS!!! OH WHAT A HEADACHE....

Maybe it will help someone who is dealing with what I have been for 2 wks!!

I wanted to share something that I have been making that I just love and I use them on everything...

I first started buying these at Staples from Martha Stewart...had a coupon...you know...had to get something...SMILES...

Anyway...I loved the ideal of them and found that I really did use them all the time...problem...THEY WERE A LITTLE ON THE PRICEY SIDE...and they only came in Black and Pale Blue...Well you know me IT HAS TO BE PINK!!!

These are so simple to make...and you can use up some of that scrap fabric that everyone of use have loads of...BIG SMILES...

I simply measured the note book I was making it for, this one measured 2.25" x 18.25" folded. = 36.5" total length..

Here you will sew your strip RST to make a tube. First you will want to press each end 1/4" to the wrong side and stitch and then turn RSO and press your tube with a hot iron.

I then run my elastic through my tube. I know the picture shows the tube not turned yet...but I was measuring how wide elastic to use...LAUGHS...

My tube ended up being 1 1/8" wide minus the 1/4" seam allowance and my elastic was 7/8" wide it was just the right fit...I wanted to use as wide elastic as I could use.

Then I ran my elastic through with a XL safety pin...you know the ones you use when you are making a Quilt Sandwich...or as big as you can fit in the tube....SMILES!!

After it was all pulled through...I then secured it each end with a small safety pin and wrapped it around the book I wanted to use.

After I had pulled to the tension I wanted...Use your discretion here I left some room for my book to hold more and PROBALEY MORE THEN IT SHOULD...BIG LAUGHS

I reattached the safety pin on one end to secure and then cut...I simply stitched back and forth over the ends to secure the elastic in place.

And you have a Book Binder that is TOO CUTE...I found my self making them for every note book or sketch book I have...LAUGHS...I know you will do the same THEY ARE ADDICTING!!!

And you can make them the colors and prints that you want...Now let me see....

I recently participated in a Coaster Swap...it was the first one I have done...The patterns were alot of fun to do and I am in love with the fabric I picked...
I hope my swap partner enjoys them as much I as I did making them...
I have yet to receive my coasters from her...looking forward to that...
I also made a couple gifts to send along with the coasters out of the same fabric...SMILES!!

Bandanna Table Runner

Hello Friends,

I hope this post finds you all well...

This is about a really COOL table runner that I created for my son Blake. It was his Ideal for me to use Bandannas and he told me how he wanted it to look and the rest was up to me...SMILES!!

I did this a couple months back but I have not been able to really do anything lately because I apparently hurt my self and have been taking it easy. I am not sure what I did, but my husband seems to think it is a Hip Flex...I am going to the doctor tomorrow and hopefully that is what it is and not a new back injury!!!

My son lives in Texas and knew he wanted TEXAS on the table runner and wanted it Red White and Blue, and when I was there visiting we were deciding on fabric, he found a Bandanna and said he thought it would be cool to have it made from them...

I went to Hobby Lobby and got what I needed while I was still in Texas and was ready when I got home to get started. I got two of each color even though I knew how much I needed, GOT TO BE SAFE YOU KNOW...LAUGHS!!

I then started cutting them square and getting all the printing off.

I sit down and designed how Blake and I had discussed and what kind of quilting designs I thought would be good for the end result...

I got started sewing...
Blake wanted it to look like the Texas Flag so that is how I put the colors together and then I made the TEXAS letters. I needed 3 panels to get the length that I needed. I appliqued my letters and stars on with Embroidery thread..I always use this thread for applique..it has a wonderful sheen and very strong.

I used Red fabric as my background for my letters and after I got all my panels finished I put them all together and then decided what I was gonna use on the back fabric. The length needed to be 50" so I had to piece my backing fabric.

I decided to add a little special surprise for my kiddo...BIG SMILES...

I had a pattern with a star that is what I used for my stars on the front and also for the surprise on the back..

I always use the left over cardboard from the fat squares that I purchase for my patterns..it really makes a very stable object to work with. This is also what I used for my letters.

I always have the pattern to use again if needed...Wink Wink!!

I used a Red White and Blue poka dot for the back fabric and pieced in my red strip with my appliqued star on it in the center.

Now QUILTING TIME.... I decided to use a Stipple Stitch all over the bandannas and Echo the Stars..
I also use Embroidery thread when I am FMQ as well...It is a Bold thread that does not break or tangle very much...I am really liking the Floriani Thread lately...

This did add some beautiful effects to the back when completed. And I think it worked wonderfully with the print on the Bandannas.

I used a dark Denim Binding after squaring up the quilt sandwich and the TEXAS FLAG TABLE RUNNER WAS COMPLETE.

Final measurements 12" x 50"

The perfect size for Blake'a Long Table and I was hoping he would like it...

When he got the package he called and said HE LOVED IT!!! JUST WHAT HE WANTED..

I WAS SMILING BIG TIME...

He sent me a picture of what else he could use it for... Laughs...

Now he has plans for me to make something TEXANS for Football Season....HUMMM
Gonna have to think on that one...A table runner or place-mats...LAUGHS..

Being Lazy

Hello Friends,

I hope that you are having better weather than I am...it is so HOT & HUMID here!!

The humidity is a big problem for me uniformity.

I planned on having this project finished before posting, but that did not work as planned...SMILES!!

I have these health problems and Chronic Pain is one of the Major Symptoms. Everyday I battle with becoming ONE with my OLD WELL WORN RECLINER. Unfortunately most days that is where you will find me, however there are days that I win the battle with my lovable chair and I try to pack as many sewing and quilting projects into the hours of that day as my body will allow...LAUGHS!!

But with the high Humidity, the Chair has been WINNING out more!!!

So I have tried to work on little things here and there...

I really like making these little wristlets and they come in handy for so many things!!

I also managed to finish another Pile of Pumpkins wall hanging.

This is the project I wanted to finish A Chevron Table runner. The last one I made ended up being a zigzag more than Chevron...lol you really have to pay attention to how you put your squares together...LOL

BAD THING ABOUT IT...I did not even realize I had mixed them up until I had them all sewed together...I made sure to NOT do that AGAIN!!

I cut my squares 5.5" 20 ea. fabric for a total of 40 and then drew a line from corner to corner and stitched 1/4" off line ea. side, to make my 1/2 sq's.
Press the seams opposite directions when stitching together..this will make much easier when lining up to stitch squares 4 together ea.

then I stitched 4 sq pieces together, make sure to press your seams opposite directions when doing this to like up your points perfect.

After I got everything perfect, I made my quilt sandwich.

I used coordinating fabric as my backing, and am going to use pink binding to bring out the pink in the top piece.

I have started my quilting but only have gotten the first few seams stitched in the ditch...

Portable Ironing Board

Hello Friends,

I hope this post finds you all well. This last couple weeks have been HOT and BUSY for me.
I have been busy with finishing some projects, some NEW projects and STARTING NEW projects for FALL.

I have been feeling kinda under the weather so I have been taking my time. SMILES!!

I recently finished my Knick Knack Paddy Wack Wall Quilt, and OMG it turned out SO CUTE!!

I also have been working on a new hipster bag for my Aunt.

While I was at a Quilting Show in Hot Springs a couple weekends ago, I found some beautiful fabrics for Fall Projects. I have my Fall Skinny all planned out and finished up some more Summer Skinny's as well.

I like to applique A WHOLE LOT, so in order to make it easier I made a portable ironing board that I could keep close to me where ever I might be in my sewing room.
I used a wood TV tray for the base and made the cover out of heat resistant batting, cotton batting and cotton fabric.

This was one of the easiest projects I have ever made...SMILES....

I simply measured my TV Tray Top and added an .5" each side for allowance.

I then layered my heat resistant batting than some cotton batting and then cotton fabric and quilted as I wanted..I just stippled around the whole thing.

I made a simple template to round the corners.

Then I measured my elastic width and then I got creative...LAUGHS... I used my binding as my elastic holder around the whole top.
I simply attached my binding as you would any quilted project, I stitched to the back first and when I folded to the front, I made sure to leave plenty of room for the elastic.

I finished by pulling tension on my elastic and then finished it off with a few stitches back and forth...Had to make sure it did not come loose...WINK, WINK...

The cover is removable for washing or if I need the TV Tray, you know sometimes you have company and not enough places to eat...LAUGHS

The only thing I would change if making another, would be to add another layer of fabric to the bottom simply for washing. I don't like the ideal of the batting being exposed...So I hand wash and hang to dry instead of throwing in the washer.

Now I am starting on my FALL Projects and that will keep me busy for a bit...
This is what I have gotten so far

I hope to have this finished this evening and then will probably start drawing my FALL SKINNY pieces...
I have some GREAT IDEALS for it...BIG SMILES!!!

My Hubby Gave me A Sewing Room

Hello Everyone, I hope you all had a Safe and Happy 4th of July.

I have been busy as usual and finally taking time to sit down and share something that I am very proud of. Recently my husband Alan have up his room in our house to make sure I had plenty of room to sew. He moved all his MAN STUFF out and helped me set everything up...I am a LUCKY WOMAN to have such a thoughtful MAN.

As it turned out the spare room was perfect for my needs and after it was cleaned out and I had the run of it, I think I turned it into a comfortable, warm space to DESIGN, SEW and QUILT...

I decided to go with White and add pops of COLOR...I purchased the shelving instead of building, which if you read my blogs...is REALLY NOT LIKE ME...SMILES!!

I had an old dining table in storage that ended up being perfect for my sewing table...Alan is planning on building me a sewing table that will allow my machine to drop down and loads of storage...but for now this will have to do...

I just used a portable table for my cutting and measuring table, it also serves as a quilting table when doing a large piece, again this will all come when he gets everything built...WINK, WINK....

I have lots of colorful boxes for storage, and I like antique things, so I have some of the things I have collected over the years as decoration throughout the room.

This is one of my favorite pieces...I found this little China Cabinet at a yard sale for $5.00 and well it was pretty SAD!!! I don't know why I did not take pictures....I was just in a hurry to get it finished...LAUGHS...About a year ago I found these cute knobs and at the time I had no clue what I would use them for, but I knew I had to have them and one day the perfect project would come along and they are what I designed this cabinet from.

It was a (what I call) BABY POOP YELLOW, and had a VERY BAD Attempt at a White paint job on top of that....I actually did not purchase it at first and decided to go back to see if it was still there...I CAN'T IMAGINE WHY ANYONE WOULD NOT WANT THIS BABY... BIG LAUGHS...

Well after a good cleaning and 4 cans of Valspare White Spray Paint, I have a new piece to work with...
I decided to add a little color and started digging through my fabric. I ended up with the PINK...(image that)

I got the MODGE PODGE and went to work. I just simply measured what I needed, pressed my fabric well and cut to size. I applied a layer of Satin Finish Modge Podge to the surface of the back of the cabinet and then laid my fabric in place. I waited a few minutes and then applied a light layer to the top of the fabric and then let dry. The best way to do this I found was to lay the top of the cabinet down on the floor and work on it like that

Then I decided to line the drawers and lower cabinet. I wanted a different look so I went with paper on these surfaces. I applied in the same manner and when it was all dry and set up...Well like I said ONE OF MY FAVORITE PIECES....SMILES....

And of course DAISY is sitting on top keeping an eye on all that goes on....WINK, WINK...

I just decorated with things with my daily sewing or quilting...Well except my favorite little saying...BIG LAUGHS....
These little bed springs serve kinda as Memo Boards...I clip things to them that I need to keep or remember to do...I find they really come in HANDY...
And I have a Cork Board that I made that also serves the same purpose...LAUGHS!!!!

Fabric and Vinyl Do All Bags

Happy Thursday...

Two post in one day... I am on a roll....LAUGHS!!

This post is about these really cool bags I have been making. I just love them...they can be used for so many things..I am currently using for project bags...You know too many Projects...NOT ENOUGH TIME!!

These are too simple and fun to make, you will be making them just for the fun of it.

First the sizes...for the large it measures 21" x 21" when finished...That is a pretty large bag!! and only uses 5/8" of fabric, 5/8" of interfacing, and 1/2" yd of vinyl...Cool huh...WINK, WINK

The seam allowances are 1/4" and 1/2".

I am making the large in this post so we will go off these measurements for that.
Cut TOP (2) 4 1/2" x 22 fabric and interfacing BOTTOM (1) 10 1/2" x 22 fabric and interfacing VINYL (2) 13 1/2" x 22
On the TOP allow 1 1/4" extra for Velcro so you will be actually showing 3" when finished.

Handles: (2) 4" x 22" fabric and (2) 2" x 21 1/2" interfacing.

If you have never worked with vinyl, it likes to STICK!! There are feet made of Teflon made for working with material like this. However, I don't have one of these so I make due...LAUGHS...I just take scotch tape and attach to the bottom of the foot I am using at the time and NO STICKING PROBLEMS....SIMPLE ENOUGH...SMILES

So apply your interfacing to WS of fabrics...I like to use CraftFuse for this..it is not to stiff, but adds just enough support. Follow manufacturers directions on whatever you decide to use. You will want it firm enough to add support to the bag.

Take your top fabric and iron down a small 1/4" allowance and then fold down another 1" press and then stitch close to the edge to secure. This will be like a hem line and this is where your Velcro will be attached. And I like to use Velcro that matches my fabric. You can buy different lengths at Wal Marts for .79 to .89 and depending on the bag size can get 1-2 bags from one strip. And of course....PINK was the color I used...BIG SMILES!!! You can attach your Velcro now if you like.

Leave 1/2" allowance on each side for seam allowance when attaching Velcro.

If you want to save a step and not have extra stitching showing you can attach your Velcro and secure your top hem at the same time...WINK, WINK

USE CLIPS TO WORK WITH VINYL...PINS WILL LEAVE HOLES!!!

Attach same strip to Vinyl on the 13 1/2" side and using a 1/4" seam allowance stitch in place. Make sure to secure at the beginning and end of your seam.

**You cannot iron so you finger press all seams that are on Vinyl**
Fold under seam and top stitch to secure to fabric strip. this keeps your seams hidden behind the fabric.
Attach other top strip to 2nd Vinyl piece.

Now bottom fabric to both vinyl pieces, this will leave one solid piece of fabric for the bottom of the bag. Make sure to top stitch all your seams when attaching to Vinyl...

Now make your handles, fold the fabric strip in half with raw edges together and WST and then fold in the sides to the middle and press. This is where I attach my interfacing to my handles. I just unfold the sides and press into the center of the strip and then fold the sides back in and then fold together again and you will have a 1" strip to stitch around all the edges.

From raw edges in 7" towards center and 2 1/2" down all the way to top of where fabric and Vinyl attach.

I attach with a simple square around the bottom of the handle and then a Crisscross to secure.

Turn bag RST and stitch 1/2" seam allowance down the sides of the bag.

Turn bag and shape the corners and the sides of the bag .

Your 1st Bag is complete...

This bag is LARGE enough to hold the LAP TOP bag I just made for my Mom's Birthday...SMILES...And with ROOM TO SPARE!!!!

Janome Machine Pad Tutorial

Hello Friends,

We are having HOT, HOT Weather, I hope you all are finding relief...SMILES!!

As promised I am back with the full Tutorial on the Sewing Machine Pad..
I have all my measurements and calculations and Here We Go...Wink, Wink

Supplies Needed:
Fabric of Choice: A few different prints, or all the same, it is what you prefer. You will need 1 for the pad top, 1 for the pad backing. And 3-4 other prints for the pocket panel piece.
1/4" seams allowance

Binding: Approximately 5 yards
Batting: (1) 31 x 15 1/2" (1) 5 1/4" x 20 1/2" (1) 3 3/4" x 20 1/2" (1) 6 1/4" x 20 1/2"

Other Supplies:
Thread to match Fabric
Embroidery Thread (for quilting)
Sewing Machine (Recommended Janome MC 8900
Scissors
Rotary Cutter & Mat
Rulers
Needles
FMQ Foot / Walking Foot
Pins
Clover Wonder Clips
Marking Pen - Removable
Buttons (5) to match
Button Hole Foot for Sewing Machine
Binding Tool (if preferred)

Measure the sizes you need for your machine, this will vary from machine to machine
Measure sizes needed for pockets, width, drop

Cut Pieces:
Pad top (1) 31" x 15 1/2" I allowed 1" all around for quilting allowance
Pad Back (1) 31" x 15 1/2"
Pockets:
Button Strip (2) 3 1/4" x 20 1/2" Back panel (2) 6 1/4" x 20 1/2"
1st pocket (2) 5 1/4" x 20 1/2" 2nd Pocket (2) 3 3/4" x 20 1/2"

Place button strip (3 1/4" x 20 1/2") fabric RST and sew along one raw edge, turn and iron seam flat. Continue with sewing front and back panels (6 1/4" x 20 1/2" fabric pieces) to the button strip. You will have a finished piece of two fabrics one measuring 3" and the other 6". Top stitch above and below the seams that attached the panel to the button strip. I then used a decorative stitch below the bottom top stitch just to add a little BLING. SMILES.

Make your 1st pocket strip. Take the pocket fabrics 5 1/4" x 20 1/2" and make a mini quilt sandwich...top fabric RSU then batting and back fabric RSD. You can either make your binding for this step or use a prepacked binding. Attach binding along the top raw edges leaving 3 raw edges.

Follow the same steps for the 2nd pocket strip.

Layer your panel and strips, pin them together and bast stitch down the sides. Attach binding to the 2 sides and Bottom. Measure where you want your pockets to lay. I did this by what I wanted in my pockets. Small scissors, seam ripper, quilting gloves etc. Lay aside for later.

Make your quilt sandwich with the pad fabric pieces. Your top piece RSU / batting / backing RSD. Quilt as preferred. I simply stippled with a contrasting embroidery thread (PINK) all over.
You can FMQ here or use your walking foot and quilt however your are comfortable.

Square up your pad and bind all raw edges.

Now I took to my table and placed under my machine, because I tend to keep handy items accessible, I allowed for this & measured where I wanted my buttons & marked with a removable pen.

Attach your button hole foot to your machine and make your button holes. Mine were placed at from the left" 1 1/4" 6 3/4" 10 1/2" 14" 19 1/2".

Now I laid my button panel atop my pad and marked with a removable pen where my buttons need to be. Just simply marking through the button hole onto the fabric below. I then used my machine to sew them all on...A WONDERFUL FEATURE...BIG SMILES!!!

Now place your pad under your machine and attach your pockets / FILL THEM FULL / and You have a NEW MACHINE PAD WITH POCKETS...

Janome Machine Pad with Pockets

Hello Friends,

I hope you all have had a good week...I know I have been busy as usual. Not only sewing but working in the yard...that is a full time JOB!! LAUGHS!!

I wanted to share something new with you today.

Recently I was Blessed with a new Janome Horizon MC 8900...I AM IN LOVE!!!

When I got the machine home, well it was larger than my old Brother and nothing was gonna fit...SMILES!!

I am one of those who like things to match...so I have made all kind of things for my sewing room including a machine pad and cover...etc..All those won't work anymore with my new BABY!!

I have been busy with other projects & finally I am getting around to making new accessories for my Janome.

Lately I have really been into Black & White and always PINK...WINK,WINK

I lucked up the other day at Joann's and found a fabric that HAD IT ALL...well that got my wheels to turning and inspired me get to designing..

I measured how much area I wanted covered and what kind of pockets I needed, you have to have your work space organized and accessible...SMILES...I already have a bag that catches scraps so I was not sure if I wanted to incorporate another into it.

My base layer needs to be 14 x 30, I am going to bind it, so no extra for seam allowance. But I will cut an 1"
larger for Quilting allowance.
My pockets are going to be attached along the front and will have 2 rows or pockets. I will cut extra for seam allowances when attaching pocket bib.

So I cut my fabric and laid out roughly. THIS IS GONNA BE A LEARN AS YOU GO PROJECT...LAUGHS...Surprisingly most of my new designs are and those turn out to be the best ones..BIG LAUGHS!!!

I decided I was gonna made separate pieces so I could removed the pockets if needed and also it would make easier to travel with... I can detach and roll up into the mat.

Really liking that Ideal!!!

I cut all my batting and made my binding and everything was ready to START!!

I made my pocket section first..I was still unsure how it as gonna attach to mat so I decided if I got that piece done, Hopefully it would come to me..WINK, WINK..

I made each strip of pockets separately and then laid then all together and marked where I wanted my pockets...the width.. I stitched through all layers at one time on each marked line. And then attached binding around the whole piece.

Now the Mat Piece. I laid it out and quilted with embroidery thread...I like using embroidery thread, it makes strong beautiful stitching. A BOLD STATEMENT...LAUGHS...and of course I used PINK THREAD...SMILES!!

CAN YOU TELL I LOVE PINK!!!

When all finished, I squared up my mat and attached binding around the whole piece.

NOW ATTACHING THE POCKETS TO THE MAT....AND IT HIT ME BUTTONS!!!

It was perfect!!!!

So I set my machine up for button holes and got started...I marked each place I thought I would be best support, I ended up with 5 buttons. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT

I MIGHT PILE IN THOSE POCKETS!!

I made my button holes and then marked for my buttons. My Janome is GREAT! not only does it do 9 different button holes...It sews on the buttons as well...OH HAPPY ME!!!

So after I got all that whipped up and attached...

There you have it a New Sewing Machine Pad with Pockets to Boot!!

Paper Pieced Pillow Tutorial

Good Morning, I am back with the final pillow in the bedding makeover. A Beautiful Paper Pieced 8 Point Star.

You can find a free template on Craftsy http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/quilting/other/lone-starburst-paper-piecing-templates/51692. Or you can find the whole pattern in Simple Quilts Spring 2013 Issue.

The template has a A & B section, you will need to make 4 copies of each section. The cut along the exterior lines to get your 2 template pieces.

Then pick your fabrics. I wanted to use as many of the fabrics I had already used on my bedding to bring this pillow into the theme. So I gathered them up and started cutting. You want your fabric pieces large enough to cover the assigned area. Don't get skimpy here..you want to make sure you have enough to cover all the area as well as the seam allowance area etc.

Now this is the fun part. Lay your A template face down and place your first fabric piece face up covering the #1 area. Then take your #2 piece and lay it face down on the #1 piece and line up with the stitch line.

You will want to use a good light so you can see through the paper and fabric so you can get everything perfect.

Then off to your machine and stitch on the #2 line, this will catch both fabrics.

Then fold your paper along the stitch line and trim your fabrics to 1/4".

You want to use a very small stitch length, this will make it easy to remove the paper when finished.

Iron the fabric seams down and #3 fabric is next.

As you did in the first two, line your #3 fabric up along the #3 line and then sew to the paper. And trim your 1/4" allowance.

Iron down your seams and continue to the next piece. You should see your star panel coming to life as you add each piece.

Continue to add, trim and iron until you get all pieces sewn to your paper template.

When all pieces are attached trim your panel along the outer lines (seam allowance lines).

I like to keep a small ironing surface by my sewing machine so that I am not up and down so many times, there is many steps in each panel.

I have this cool little notebook style pad, a ironing pad on one side and a cutting mat on the other..works GREAT....SMILES!!!

This is my little iron that I use for these projects as well as my applique projects. I did a lot of research before I purchased a small iron, and I think I got it right!! It gets as hot as you need..has 4 heat settings, and is small enough to get into the tightest little places.

You can find these at Wal Marts or Joann's. I am sure there are other stores that carry them, these are the two where I have seen them.

After you finish your A template do the same for the B template. You want your fabrics to match up.

As you progress with your panels your star will come together.

Here is all the panels finished and ready to be sewn together.

Now you take the A & B sections and sew them together.

Here is the front all sewn together and now I am adding the side panels to finish off the size I need for the pillow form I have.

I am using a 16 x 16 pillow form.

I will then add the top and bottom panels as well.

I allowed 2" extra allowance on my panels. I will end up trimming these down after I am finished quilting.
This allows for squaring up and any other you might need.

And my front of my pillow is ready.

Now you remove the paper from the back of your panels.

I start with one area and work my way around there will be some areas that are near impossible to get out due to the seams. But the pattern I followed said to do this step now. Other paper pieced patterns I have done I remove the paper as soon as I finish the panels before I sew them together.

I like to use a really small crochet hook to get the paper started tearing and to tear along the seams. It works great.

And finally all the paper is gone and the panel is ready for quilting.

Now I make my quilt sandwich, and off to the machine to quilt my front panel together.

As with any quilt sandwich, you want to allow extra on your batting and backing fabric for any quilting slippage. I gave myself an extra 1" all around with the batting and back panel.

You can quilt anyway you prefer. I quilting in the ditch around the star and all the areas in the star and then around the added panels.

I also quilted extra to add dimension to the star.

This is the back view of the front panel. Here you can see the quilting a little better. I use Embroidery thread to quilt. I love the way it makes the stitching stand out. On this I tried a new one.

Floriani Embroidery thread...it is a lot like Isacord and I am loving the look. I feel like I will be using more of this wonderful thread.
You can find this sold at your local Quilting Stores, or on line.

You will want to fill your bobbin with the same thread.

Now it is time for the back panels of the pillow.

I cut 2 panels for this step, and allowed extra on each to make a envelope style so I could just slip the pillow form into the cover and no hand sewing....BIG SMILES!!

I knew I wanted to do something to coordinate with the front quilting so I decided on angled straight line quilting.

I made my quilt sandwiches as I did with the front panel and started in one corner of each panel with a 45 deg angle mark. I carried this design all the way down the panel to the end corner.

I spaced the lines about 2" apart.

After I got my back panels done, then it was on to the binding. I decided to make my own (instead of store bought) out of some of the fabric to coordinate with the bedding.

I cut my strips 2" wide and the width of my fabric. I attached them together like I mentioned in my earlier

post.

I used a couple methods to make my binding, I am experimenting to see what I like the most. SMILES... The first is a ironing mat, I must say I really like this, the padded mat helps your iron along and your fabric is crisp. However it does not turn in the outside edges. It is strictly for binding that you would use as it comes off the mat.

The other method was the binding tools you can purchase in different sizes. This is a little hard to get started, but in the end it was the best tool for the binding I needed.

I then attached to each back panel along one side and stitched into place.

The way I do my binding...I open it all up and stitch down the first side to the back of the panel, and then wrap and iron the binding into place to the front of the panel, clip and stitch along the very outer edge to secure to the panel .

Many people like to attach to the front first and then to the back, but I just like the other way around...it is your preference.

I love to use the little Wonder Clips, they are a great tool for binding!!!

My problem, I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH!!! So I use clips that, well they are large hair clips...WINK, WINK..

This is how to recycle your toilet paper rolls...LAUGHS!!!

I use them to store my binding until I am ready to use.

Now I am attaching my back and front panels together with binding. Follow the same steps as with the binding on the back panels, except you will be completing your pillow cover in this step.

You will finish with attaching to the front and you have the finished pillow. Now just insert your pillow form and YOU ARE DONE!!

I think I am LOVING IT!!! I really like the way it turned out.

And the stitching on the back matched up perfect BIG BIG SMILES!!! I LOVE WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER.

Chevron Pillow With Corded Trim

Hello Gals and Guys, I am back...this is a new record for me...a blog in a week...WINK, WINK!!

I have been busy getting my Bedding Project finished. I mentioned in my last post that I had 2 more pillows to make and they were a bit more labor intensive.

So here is the 1st.

I always draw my projects in my project books, I have one for small projects, large projects, and just for Quilt Design Only.

I keep all these books for later use and reference, they really come in handy.

I used some scrap fabric to make a couple sample sizes to see what was going to be good for the pillow form that I had.

I did a 8.5" square and a 6.5" square. I choose the smaller of the two for my project.

After you cut them down they ended up being 4.5" each. I needed 16 of this size which equals 32 total for both sides.

I then gathered up all the fabric and supplies I needed and got to work. I tried to use as many different fabrics that I had been using...EVERYTHING MUST COORDINATE!!

Make sure you cut extra fabric, allow for Ruler Slippage, Wrong Measurements, ETC...

I had read about this technique on the internet where you placed your squares RST (right sides together) and sew as close to the edge all around the squares. Now your squares are completely sewn together and now you cut from corner to corner and then the next set of corners (this will be 45 deg angles) to get your 4.5" squares.

I don't know why my pictures are not loading right...Please bear with me...BIG SMILES.

I recommend ironing your squares before you make the first cut,this sets your stitches and helps your fabric lay flat when cutting.

Open carefully and press your seams to the darker fabric. Make sure you press here and do not drag your iron over the fabric, this will make it stretch out of square.

I then trimmed the corner tips off the squares.

Continue to sew all your squares together in the same manner and cut your smaller squares until you have your 32 squares. Now you are ready to start laying out your Chevron Pattern.

I like to take a picture of my layout, I can use it for later reference. I have also made sheets from fabric scraps of the project (very large projects, quilts) to help me keep my pieces in the right spot...LAUGHS!!

Now you sew your squares together to make rows, and then stitch the rows together. Some people prefer to sew columns instead of rows, it is whichever your prefer..rows keep my work more accurate.

As you stitch your squares together when your press your seams lay each row of seams to one direction and then the other row to the other direction

Row 4 seams to the left this will help when you sew your rows together all your seams will match up and lay perfect. There will be less bulk at your seams all will lay flat.

When you pin your rows together just butt up your seams and pin at the seam.. if everything is right they will line up perfect.

I work on the front panel & then on the back, The front panel will be the one I attach the cording to, and I want exact measurements before I start cutting the strips for the cord. WASTE NOT / WANT NOT...SMILES!!

And it also keeps me straight on my square placement. I have these great pens that I mark fabric with, and can label if needed to keep everything in order. Works great on any project!!

Pilot Frixon (ball) you can find them in most quilt shops (they tend to be pricy) and at office supply stores (at more reasonable prices. They come in cool colors. BIG SMILES!!
They remove with just a touch of a warm Iron. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THEM!!!!

After you have sewn all your squares and rows together for the front panel, square up your panel. Now you are ready to start on your cording.
You could do your back panel now, but I like to keep organized, I guess the Perfectionist in me coming out...WINK, WINK!!

I measure all sides of the panel to get how many inches of cording I need. I measure a couple of times, MEASURE TWICE/ CUT ONCE..SMIILES. I usually add about 4" to my measurements to make sure I have enough fabric, it is easier to cut than add. **A HINT: Always iron your fabric before you measure and cut, MORE ACCURATE.**

I always start with a straight edge on my fabric, and then I am cutting my strips at 1.5". My square is 16x16 and I add 4" = 69" My fabric is 18.5" so multiply by 4 and that is 74" SHOULD BE PLENTY!!

Now you will make your strip like you would for Binding Tape. Lay your strips 1 right side up and 1 right side down. Make a 45 deg angle mark across the corner, this will be where you stitch

Now stitch along the line and you are ready to trim your seam to 1/4" allowance.

After you trim, press your seam towards one side and press your strip open and you are ready to continue with the next piece attached in the same manner.

After I sew all my strips together, I take my strip and lay around the panel to make sure I will have enough before I start adding the cord filler.

I used cord purchased by the yard, you can also purchase it already packaged. Wrights Cotton Filler Cord.

Press your strip in half with raw edges together, and then we will add the cord.

I just lay my cord along the strip and pin it snug to keep all together while I stitch it closed.

I stitch together with my zipper foot as close to the cord as I can get. If you slightly pull your fabric as your machine pulls it through the needle, it will not bunch and gather the fabric along the cord.

Make sure to tape your cord before you cut at the end of your run. I just use scotch tape and wrap around the cord tightly . I then cut in the middle of the tape so that there is equal amounts on each side.

Now you can stitch to your front panel using your zipper foot for this step too.

Pin your cord with the raw edges together, this will be your cord laying farthest from your raw edge on your panel.

After I get it all sewn on I trim up the edges to make sure there is nothing hanging over. The way I start and end the Cord. I gently curl the starting end and when I get back around to where I started I gently curl the
end the same way. They will be curled towards the out side of the fabric.

Now you can start on your back panel like you did your front panel without the cording...LAUGHS.. and when you get that finished it is time to stitch both your panels together.

I start right before one corner and stitch all around and end after the corner before the one I started. This leaves an opening for you to get you pillow form, or fiber fill into.

Then I take my HANDY DANDY Corner thingy my darling husband made for me to get the corners crisp. He saw me using one one day that was made of plastic...you know the ones you can buy at Hobby Lobby...etc...

Oh My that would not work for his wife...He made me one out of BONE...that is what they are called...LAUGHS!! Something Bone or Bone Something...well anyway I have my own special one...and I use it on everything. It will never wear out or break...the more I use it the stronger it gets...SMILES...THANK YOU ALAN!!!

Now just insert your pillow form and I hand stitch my opening closed. You can use your machine for this if your prefer..I like to do a hidden stitch. I wiggly and waggle my pillow inside the cover till I get it all fitting right And you have a CHEVRON PILLOW TO ENJOY!!

I have to say I am not a big fan of this techique. You do not get conistant Squares. It will be back to the Tried and True way for me. But it is a quick way if you need to get it done fast.

Pillow Shams from King Size Pillow Cases

Hello Everyone, It has been awhile. I have been busy, busy...I have finally retired from work and now hopefully I will have more time to devote to my blogs and to other projects I have laying around waiting on my creative mind to get back to....SMILES!!

One of the latest projects I have been working on. I wanted to redo our bedroom. I finally got tired of the dark golds, and browns and wanted a completely different look.

I decided on Black and White with a POP of RED.. Well it has been a while in the making, finding the perfect comforter and drapes, bed skirt, pillow...etc...

Then it came to me...YOU HAVE A BRAND NEW SEWING MACHINE...MAKE WHAT YOU WANT....DUHHH!!!

I did find the perfect Duvet Cover at IKEA while I was in Texas...and also purchased a lightweight weight year round duvet insert to go inside....However there were NO shams to match, only King Size Pillow Cases.

I had purchased a nice heavy Black fabric to make the bed skirt and I knew I wanted the shams to match the duvet cover so I decided to use the pillow cases that came with it to make shams...Great Ideal Right...

Well I learned a few things in the process and also a few tricks as well...LAUGHS!!

I decided I wanted a mitered corner border out of the Black fabric and so I got to work measuring and reading, had never made a mitered corner before, and off to the sewing room I went.

These are the colors I decided to use on the Shams.
Pillow case for the front, Black for the border, and White for the back envelope.

I started ripping the pillow case apart and WOW I had a lot of fabric to work with.

This is my new Iron...I had to show you guys...I love this thing...if you sew or quilt...You will not be disappointed in this Shark Iron....

I decided to use Craft Fuse to add a little body to the black fabric so that the border would stand up some when attached. You can find this product at
Jo Ann's Fabric, I use this a lot when making bags or anything I want to have some stabilization. I love this product.
The directions for the mitered corner says to attach the sides first leaving a 1/4" allowance at the corners. Then to add the top and bottom pieces doing the same...I found that leaving a 1/4" on the sides and then sewing all the way on the top and bottom worked better for me...it left me a crisp corner.

You were then to draw a 45 deg angle line and sew along the line and then trim to a 1/4" allowance...THIS IS WHERE I MESSED UP!!!!
I know now I should of made my corners on the front fabric and when all were finished attach my back fabric to the border and that would cover the cut marks on the seams....HEY I AM LEARNING HERE!!!
Bad thing as soon as I cut I realized what I had done....*&^^((^%$

BUT being the crafty little thing that I am....I found a way to fix it...OMG I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE I DID THAT!!! In my defense it was late and my mind was tired...BLAH...BLAH...BLAH...HEY EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO A MAJOR ONE EVERY NOW AND THEN. LAUGHS!!!

My solution to the MAJOR MISTAKE!!! I got out some binding tape and got to work covering my BOBO....in the end it worked great....and Hey they are for my bed anyway...I am the only one who has to look at it daily....SMILES...I will probably end up tearing them apart and redoing...it will drive me CRAZY!!!

I started by sewing the tape backwards on the end and then flipping and sewing down the seam on the corner.

I then cut my back fabric and hemmed one side that would be the finished edge.

Then I pinned the 2 pieces to the front **Right sides together** and sewed a 1/2" Seam all around the edges making sure to reinforce the corners.

I then turned and used my favorite tool to get the corners out crisp...A Crochet Hook...about medium size...Works Great!!!

THE FINISHED PRODUCT!!!! JUST WHAT I WANTED...

You can see the corners worked great and the BOBO on the back is NOT Noticeable at all...WINK WINK!!

And they look GREAT on the BED!!!
I used the remainder fabric to add to the pillow cases that go to the sheets..(just plain White Cotton) and so now they coordinate as well..

Now the Throw Pillows....

I had already picked out my fabric...so back to the sewing room I went.

I started with the red....Isn't it Beautiful!!! just your basic pillow cover...cut your fabric 1" larger all sides than your pillow measures, I added a Black Cord Trim to one side first and then with right sides together sew the pieces together leaving an opening to get your pillow in...I then hand stitched the opening closed and then made 2 buttons from the Black Fabric left over from the Pillow Shams. I used Upholstery Thread to attach the buttons...it is much stronger than regular thread and will not snap when you pull your buttons tight to make a divot in the middle. I just attached the thread to one button, used a doll needle to pull the thread through the pillow to the other side and grabbed the other button and then back through the pillow a couple times and the ended by tying off on one button. So both sides look the same, and I loved the way it turned out.

Black Cord Trim

I then used the other fabric to make 2 more pillows to coordinate with the bedding. I simply cut the back piece to 1" larger than the pillow and then measured out what sizes I wanted my panels in the front to end up matching the measurements of the back panel, I made a corded trim from the left over fabric from the pillow shams. I just used some basic white cord you can purchase at any fabric store and cut my strips 2.5", sewed them together like you would when making binding tape and then made my cording from that...Then I attached to one panel and then with right sides together simply sew together like the Red Pillow and finish the same.

I like the way the back is a solid color and that I can mix and match depending on my mood.

A year in the making!!! the Cedar Chest FINALLY FINSHED!!!

Rescue of a Lane Cedar Chest.

This cedar chest was spotted by my girlfriend on one of her evening walks. She came home and told me about it, with the idea that we would hold it for my mom to refinish (I'm always on a lookout for stuff for her.)

I went to go get it, and after getting it home and having a good look at it, I decided to tackle it myself. It was really rough on the outside, but had a perfect interior, and solid hardware.(good bones, as Mom would say) I figured it would be a breeze.....

I could tell it had a hard life, and carried with it a ton of history. It began life back in the early 50s as confirmed by the serial, and the post card that was still stapled to the inside of the lid. Lane makes some top quality furniture, and it shows.

I talked to my mom, who offered tons of advice on everything from material and supplies to technique and even helped out by doing the leather top for the lid you will see later. It was as much of a combined effort as two people can do being 400 miles apart.

I started by removing the veneer on the top, using wet towels and a steam iron. If you look back on this blog, Mom made a post last year about using a steam iron to remove veneer. This was for me :). I got a good ways through it, and got pretty good with the technique, but quickly realized it was a pressed board over the cedar, and I would not be able to finish it like I will the sides. I then set it aside and planned the covered seat top you will see later.

I started on the veneered sides, and it was slow going. I got faster as I went though as I figured out how much water and steam I needed. Removing the veneer revealed a dark wood, and tons of adhesive. I took care of that with a palm sander and started with 60 grit to knock off the adhesive. Then progressed to 80, 120, and 300 on the sander. I also removed all the trim, and most of it was discarded because it was unsalvageable.

Once I got down to pretty cedar, I used some automotive sand paper and a sand block to get the wood as smooth as possible. I went all the way to 4000grit.

At some point either before or after I acquired the piece, a part of the base broke off. It was veneered as well, but was just plain wood under it. I cut the rest of the base the same height, and planned to paint it later. I also found some cedar trim and replaced the pieces along the bottom.

I spent hours, days, weeks, and months sanding on the chest in my spare time. Please be sure to wear the proper safety equipment when doing this. The dust is really bad.

At this time, the chest took a spot on the back burner as life got in the way. It was months until I started on it again. I did however order the new lock set.

Lane has a recall on the old hardware because it latches every time you close it. This was causing issues with children playing inside them and suffocating because they are air tight. The new lockset only latches if you hold the button down when you close the lid. If you have an old chest, please be sure to get the new lockset. Especially if you have small children around. You can request a new free lock by going to this link, and inputting your info.

A new interest was stirred on the chest when Mom came for a visit, and offered to help me do the top. I still wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but I knew I couldn't let it stay like it was. We decided on a padded seat top, and Mom went out to find supplies. While I was at work, she whipped up a leather padded topper, and was installing it when I got home. Impressive to say the least.

I also decided I wanted to put something on the front. I wanted a Texas star, since I live in Texas, but was unsure how to transfer it, and how to apply it. I decided on burning it in, even though id never even picked up a wood burning tool. I ended up with a nautical star, since we love boating as well. I learned as I went, and I must say it came out pretty good!

The chest sat a while longer, with the cold weather, and lack of space in the garage causing delays. I finally vowed to complete it, and went to get more supplies.

The front originally had some trim on it, and this was installed with a groove in the cedar. When I removed this, it damaged the groove, so I had to find a way to cover it. I decided to use some household trim, to make a sort of picture frame like outline on the front. This would cover the damage, and make the front more interesting. While I was at it, I glued some sections of the back that had come loose.

I also picked up some rustoleum satin black paint, and some polyurethane sealant, along with a new miter box, brushes, rollers, and other bits and pieces.

I started by cutting and test fitting the trim, I then removed it, and painted it and the base with the satin black paint. 3 coats took care of it, and its a nice uniform color. I also installed a set of small slider feet so it wouldn't be directly on the carpet.

I then began the polyurethane coats. I started with a roller, and it caused a lot of bubble spots. I switched to foam brushes for all additional coats. I used 0000 steel wool in between poly coats to “sand” down the imperfections, and rough it up for the next coat. I used my air compressor and a dry towel to take care of the dust and fibers. I ended up doing 6 coats, waiting 8-10 hours in between.

The first coat was splotchy, and didn't look all that good, but the additional coats really started bringing out the woods beauty. Why anyone would cover cedar with some cheap oak veneer is beyond me.

The final assembly took place on February 18^th, 360 days after I first found the chest.

My plan for it is to house my “guy” stuff. Things like firearm accessories, bags, cases, bits and pieces, and things that my girlfriend doesn’t like laying around. I'm sure it will last another 60 years or more.

Magnetic snaps MADE EASY!!

Hi Everyone! It has been awhile. I have been hibernating for the winter. SMILES!!

As I mentioned in my last post I have been doing lots of sewing and every project I read or pattern I make there is always a different way to install Magnetic Snaps....

I don't understand that...I think people sometimes give too much info trying to make sure that everyone can understand...and in turn...it just makes it more confusing...

So I decided to post my way of doing it.
First you start with the wrong side of the fabric where you want your snap. You can see here I marked mine earlier and now am ready for the install.

I use scraps of Pellon stabilizer, I usually have lots of these laying around. I cut them to about 1.5 x 2 and that will be what gives the extra support for the snap. I use spray adhesive to attach the Pellon to my fabric, you can purchase fusible Pellon or other stabilizers if you like, but I have found this works great.

I then take something flat and apply pressure to the patch to make sure it adheres to the fabric.

I then usually fold my fabric in half and give it a quick shot with the iron to make a center mark and then measure where I want my snap to be located.

I want to measure up or down from one edge and then from the side over..you will want to keep up with these measurements as you will have to do the same on the other piece of fabric.

The next step that makes it easy...take you snap and center it over your center mark and apply pressure with the prongs, this will leave small divots in the Pellon. This is where you will cut. I use a fabric pen to make all my marks and I mark my divots as well so I can see just how much to cut.

These are my tools of the trade...A piece of board..and an exacto knife and a pair of sm needle nose pliers.

You can see here that I have made very small slits and now starting to push my prongs in the slits from the right side of the fabric.

I then attach the metal disc that comes with the snap and use my pliers to bend the prongs over to secure the snap in place

After I use the pliers I simply use my thumbs to finish bending the prongs down.

And here is the view from the wrong side of fabric with everything finished.

And the front of the fabric DOES THAT NOT LOOK SO PERFECT NICE AND NEAT!!!

And finally I do the same thing for the other half of the snap and you have a complete Magnetic Snap installed and ready for use in your project...

It's Been A While

Hello Everyone...I have not been here in some time...However, I am still KICKING!!! SMILES!!

There have been some life changes for me and finding time to sit and blog has not been on my radar of late.

If you keep up with me, you know I love to redo things...Furniture, Tin, Wood...etc...well all that REDOING...has REDONE MY HANDS!! SAD FACE!!

I finally got tired of waking up at night crying with my hand...so I broke down and went to the ORTHO doc...I need surgery on my right one NOW!!

The left one is STILL GOOD!! I PLAN ON KEEPING IT THAT WAY!!

I have managed to convince him to give me shots for now...as I am NOT A FAN of SURGERY!!! I can take those for a few more times and then I will have to BITE THE BULLET and go under the knife...

I have had to put a HALT to the REDOING for now...I still manage to get a piece in here and there...I cannot not stand it...all those pieces just waiting on me to give them NEW LIFE!!!

I think I mentioned in my last post..that I was sewing more...Well I am now sewing LOTS!!! and I am Loving it...

I am making Bags, Bags, Bags....I am thinking of transforming my blog from Redoing Furniture...to SEWING..and all that goes along with it..

I think it would be a good thing...as I am a self taught sewing mania...SMILES and I learn something every time I make something new...When I am designing a new bag...I learn from my mistakes..and am thinking that others can learn from my mistakes as well.

My latest venture...I bought one of those over the door ironing boards, you know the one with the CHEAP ironing board cover...and NO PADDING...it is like you are ironing on the Metal Frame.

Well I got Tired of that Real Quick!!! SO....I have been making all these matching goodies for my sewing room and decided that my ironing board needed to match as well..RIGHT!!

Please don't pay attention to my sheet covered couch...My dogs love to ROOT & SNORT on it...BIG SMILES!!

So you can also see my ironing board attachment in this photo..it holds my Scissors, pins, ruler, etc...and on the other side is a pocket to catch the waste..That thing has been SO USEFUL!!

The Iron Board Cover is reversible and I used 100% Cotton Batting. Now there is enough padding that I don't feel the metal frame and I can take it off, throw it in the wash...and when I get tired of PINK...FLIP and I have GREEN!!!

Talk about an Ironing Pad...OMG!!! that Cotton Batting makes the World of Difference!! IT GETS HOT NOW...and the cotton absorbs the moisture from the steam as well.
I think I made a good choice on that one...LAUGHS!!

So now EVERYTHING IS MATCHING!! and I have a NEW Ironing Board Again...

My husband keeps telling me that I am pretty good at this Sewing Stuff, and I should sell these things...HUMMM...that is a thought!!!

I have been lucky with my Etsy Shop. It is finally taking off and I have added many more items to it JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

Hello Everyone ....I have been gone so long it seems!!

I am here to share what I have been up to these last few months...

I cannot believe that I have not Blogged for SO LONG!!!

OMG !!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!!

I have found that with all the HEAT & HUMIDITY that staying indoors really helps with this crap (fibromyalgia) from keeping me completely down!!

And me being the type of person that cannot stay still (unless my body just won't let me go) I have been trying to sew more and more...So far so GOOD!

Not only am I making the Auto Trash Bags, I have started making all kinds of bags...I LOVE MAKING BAGS!!! SMILES!!

I am making all sizes TOTES and I really am Crushin on these COSMETIC BAGS!! They are roomy and give you plenty of room to carry all your ~~JUNK~~ I mean things you need to carry...SMILES!!

They are so much fun to make, so far I have 3 different sizes and am sure before long, I will have a Tote to match...A COMPLETE SET....WINK WINK!!

I also will Personalize or Monogram then with "Special Orders".

Of course I have my OWN LABEL...BIG SAPPY SMILE!!

I have also been sewing other things...I made this TOO CUTE!! Infant Carrier Cover for some friends that are expecting their first little GIRL together....

I gave it the Personal Touch a "G" initial and a little Peek Window.

I used two matching fabrics that matched her Nursery, I alternated the fabrics throughout to add a little character. And finally I added
Velcro Straps that attach to the carriers handle to keep it in place...
TOO CUTE RIGHT!!!

I also finished my dog bed pillows...I made the main pillow and some matching Deco Pillows with to match the Bed "No 1" and "Pooch"

This project started out as a small pallet and ended up a "Cute Little Pooch Bed"

These are my latest projects with "FALL arriving.

I made the pumpkins out of some scrap 4x4 post and made the signs out of some old pallet wood that I had laying around...I USE PALLET WOOD FOR EVERYTHING!!!

I tried a new EXPERIMENT with the sign colors.

I mixed Old English Scratch Cover "Dark Woods" with some floating medium and it TURNED OUT AMAZING!!

As you can see the wood ...a Beautiful color was accomplished with this Experiment... Wouldn't you agree??

I stenciled the words on first and then the stain. I will definitely have to remember that one...SMILES!!!

I used some Pine Tree Limbs cut into sections for the stems, and just some left over ribbon and topped it off with a few strands of Bailing Wire and some Raffia...and Wa La...A PUMPKIN PATCH WAS GROWN...SMILES!!

And the last thing I can add today..I have managed "well am working on " a complete Matching Set of many different COLORFUL Decorative Accessories for my Sewing Room.

1st a Machine Cover...and then I had to have a pad for it to set on and then I had to make another pad for my grandmothers machine that she gave me...By the Way, I LOVE!!!

Then I got tired of chasing all my supplies, so I made an organizer that hangs over my ironing board...on 1 side is all the little pockets to hold everything and on the other is the Scrap Bag..it catches all the treads and little scrap pieces of fabric, this keeps them from ending up on the floor.

Then I decided I needed a travel bag to carry all my cutting boards and rulers with I travel to camp on the weekends...As it seems, I won't be hunting much this year...I have to have surgery on my arm......uuggghhhh...

It has lots of pockets (inside/outside) to hold everything I might need to cut fabric...

I LOVE THIS BAG~~I Quilted one side with Ironing Board Fabric and the other with regular batting...so all I have to do is when I have all my supplies out of it, is lay it on a table and with my Travel Iron...I have my PRESSING SURFACE...Cool HuH!!

The Weather is getting Cooler and the Humidity is WAY DOWN...this in my kind of Weather....

I am sure I will be here more often...as I will be completing some of those projects that have been in my barn all summer....LAUGHS!!!!

Hello Everyone...I hope this finds you all well.

I have been busy as usual...SMILES!! The weather has been somewhat easier on me and I have been able to get out and PAINT!!

I had purchased this old desk at a junk shop months back and it has been in my barn since...I finally dug it out and started sanding on it...

OMG THAT WAS A JOB!!! I had to let my arm recoup for about a week after that experience. At first I thought it had stick on liner on it...
and then I realized it was just a real good example of a REALLY BAD PAINT JOB!! The more I sanded the worse it got...

Finally I just gave up and got out the Easy Off and let it do the HARD WORK!!

After they spent a little time together..my whole world seemed a little better...WINK, WINK... The sanding went along much easier and before you knew it...WA LA bare wood!!

I had a few small repairs to tackle...drawers and legs glued back...and that was just about it. I put it back on the cart and back in the barn it went...like I said before...my arm had to recoup...

When the weather cooled again...I got out my handy dandy cart (a gift from my wonderful hubby) it makes hauling things like this a WIZ!

I had found this Beautiful Turquoise (PEACOCK BLUE) paint and could not wait to get started.

I loved how the color turned out. I used the same hardware just updated with a Satin Caramel Metallic paint.

And finally I decided to transform a Ant Chair I had in my booth that had not sold...it was Ant white with a striped seat...I wanted to pair it with the desk so I found some fabric and that is what lead me to the color for the chair.

I think the pair go together perfect! The other colors, orange, yellow, pink, leave plenty of room for a very colorful room...BIG SMILES.

Well that is about it for me for now...I have a Antique chest of drawers I found on the side of the road and an Antique Cedar chest that I still have stashed in the barn...the weather is cooling...HOPEFULLY!!! so be on the look out...MORE TO COME!!...

My New Products!!

Hello Everyone!!! ...I have been down for a bit...Just too busy to sit and blog...I am SORRY!!!

It has been so HOT here that I have not been doing much in the furniture department...My Paint literally crackles when it hits the surface of what I am painting...THAT IS JUST TOO HOT!!!

AND ME BEING THE KIND WHO CAN'T STAY STILL...SMILES... I have been keeping myself busy INDOORS...

I got out all my sewing stuff and my faithful Brother Machine, when through all my fabric and got to CREATING!!

my gramma gave me her sewing box...I filled it up!!

I had loads of fabric, YOU CAN ALWAYS USE FABRIC!!! I also had to get out there and find some of the new patterns...GOT TO HAVE THOSE BRIGHT COLORFUL PATTERNS YOU KNOW!!..

I decided to make a trash bag for my Tahoe...and when I was finished with it... I just kept on making them..BIG BIG SMILES... I found I am loving sewing again!!! Thank goodness, because like I said IT IS TOO HOT OUTSIDE!!!

And in my area...I had to make some CAMO AND PINK!!!! & CAMO for the guys!!!

I made some Razorback bags, (our college mascot) and some high school Mascot bags and of course BRIGHT BRIGHT COLORFUL ONES....

I made the straps adjustable with button holes so that you can hang them from somewhere in the front or on the headrest to hang in the back...You know those babies are MESSY!!

I have a LARGE Button Collection!!

I JUST COULD NOT STOP...I MADE MY OWN LABEL!!! SMILES

I did this with some transfer paper, a Iron and some Ribbon...

And of course you need a container to keep your labels in...I get a lot of these little containers...as I seem to be the one who always has to got get the drug test at work...I think they have a conspiracy against me...but Hey I get free containers every-time...So it evens out...Laughs

I have found that ironing on an old piece of cloth on top of the washer or dryer...works the best...Do Not Use the Ironing Board to make these labels...

Additional items that I love to use when sewing...I love these scissors...they save my hands..

I also like these type of pins...they are very thin and long..I would not suggest them on bulky fabric, it might bend them...but for this cotton...they work great!!

And if you do much sewing...this little gadget is a must!! It saves so much time when ironing a set measurement...like hems, or curtains...etc...

And finally my little travel kit...I use this so much I cannot even imagine not having it...it is just the right size for tread, ripper, needles, scissors..MY SEEING GLASSES!!!WINK, WINK...whatever you might need for the project you are currently working on...and it even has another attachment for more space...

Well that about sums it up for now...I have more projects I am working on and will share soon...I promise...Don't forget about me...I AM STILL HERE!!!! BIG SMILES...

My $5 Yard Sale Find

Hello Everyone...

Just a little time to share something I lucked up on while in Texas visiting my sons...

Like me....My oldest LOVES to Yard Sale too!!

I got this box full for $5..they told me it was all there...even the mirrors...I was a bit skeptical...but hey for only 5 BUCKS...it was worth a Looksie.

So after a couple weeks I dug into the box....there was lots of wood pieces...and INDEED 2 mirrors...WOOHOO...

Now the instructions!!! that was a different matter....WINK! WINK!
They looked like some little Critters had been feasting on them!!

INSTRUCTIONS!!

I planted my self under the shade tree in my front yard and got to organizing. 1st I made sure all the pieces were there...and low and behold....EVEN THE HARDWARE WAS IN THE BOX!!!

I got started putting everything together...there was lots of gluing and lots of different sizes of screws and bolts...WHEW!!
Hey this thing is NICE..it has lots of storage..and even 2 LOCKING DRAWERS!!!...with Old Fashion Skeleton Keys..TOO COOL!!!!

Finally I got it all together and now it was time for paint or stain.

A few months earlier, I had purchased this Ebony Stain...I did not know at the time what I wanted to do with it...But I just love dark woods...and it was such a Beautiful color...

I knew I wanted a stain, because the wood grains on the panels were so prominent...
Since all the other pieces in my bath are Black...the Ebony Stain was a perfect choice for this project.

And the final piece stained...this is not such a good pic..it was on my phone with me at work...SORRY... But I promise the wood grains in the dark stain are Amazing!!!

I even re-purposed a light fixture that my Auntie gave me...it was Oak and Bright Brass...you know the look...SMILES! (you can see it in this pic at the top)

I used Krylon Black Satin and attached a pull chain to the bottom...Works perfect above the new Medicine Cabinet!!

So there you have it a Solid Wood and Updated Light Fixture for about $5.50...What a DEAL!!!

As Promised An UPDATE!!

Well I hope that everyone had a good 4th...I know I did...

I actually got on my Slalom and acted like I was 20 yrs old again!!!!

I HAD A BLAST...but I AM PAYING FOR IT NOW!!! SMILES!!!

I did manage to get my items to the booth and I have pictures for the update on all the things I transformed...
This is the first of many...this lamp was a freebie it was very beige...and BORING!!! I painted a Krylon Watermelon and I painted the shade white...then I made a stencil and used the Watermelon to stencil the Flour De Les around the shade...

I think it turned out COOL!!! It totally looks different!!

This Monkey Lamp was in really good shape, My friend takes very good care of all her accessories..SMILES!!
However, it was a little dated with the colors...so I got out the PAINT and got started!!

I used a Krylon Black Satin on the whole lamp and then Martha Stewart Metallic Glaze to highlight all the wonderful details this Beauty had to offer!!

I kept the same lamp shade...BECAUSE IT MATCHES PERFECT!!!! THANKS DONNA!!!

This book holder was one that I made reference to in my last post...here is the updated version...different color, some glazing and then some distressing...and you have a new book shelf...

This finial I found at a yard sale and it was really dark and outdated...I started with Krylon Dual Ant White...and then some Glaze and then I did a little distressing and topped it off with some Gold rub and buff...
I like the lighter version much more!!! I will have to find the before picture...I am getting too many pictures on too many different cards...I cannot keep up with them all....WINK...WINK!!!

This little guy is one of my NEWEST items...I used some old fan blades...Have lots laying around...and a table leg I found at a junk shop...and a little piece here and there....some glass beads for the eyes and

And Finally My Wine Bottle Holder...
I found this piece of driftwood down on the coast after IKE...it has been in the barn for a while...and finally I got it out and started sanding...the more I sanded, the more Beautiful the wood became...

After all the sanding I coated with Poly Acrylic and cut some holes for the bottles to hang...
and now it is A PIECE OF FUNCTIONAL ART!!!

I loved it..and I think it has already SOLD!! This gentleman took a real liking to it my last visit to the booth...I shared the history of the piece and that made him more interested...SMILES...

Well that is about it for now... I have lots more and will have more updates soon...I am having problems with my internet at home...so I have a short time at work to catch up...
