Dogs are absolutely easy to become devoted too! I love dogs! It's St Patrick's Day this weekend so I wondered what I could post on my blog different than last year. I've been creating a lot of really nice quality dog quotes these past few months.

At Christmas time we worry about our dogs tipping over the Christmas tree or tearing open our presents, but what about dogs who chew on the tree?

Protecting And Securing Your Christmas Tree Tips

Small adjustments are all you need to keep your cats and dogs safe this holiday season. Here's a list of tips to use when putting up your Christmas décor:

1. Take your pets out of the room when decorating - Make sure your pets are out of sight while installing holiday decorations. Pets may think you're playing a game with the decorations when moving them around, which could encourage them to swat or pick at them later.

2. Select the right location for your trees and decor - Choose a location that is not cramped or beside any other fixture. Never place wreaths, swags, or other décor that can easily be swiped off in the middle of the coffee table. The best place for these items is hanging high on a wall or door.

You can also use Mantel Swags instead of garlands to decorate your mantel since these don't hang off the edges of the mantel. In other words, keep things high from the pets.

3. Keep your tree stable - Make sure to use a strong and stable base for your tree. This significantly lowers the chances of it toppling over if brushed by a nosey pet. It's also a good idea to anchor your tree against a wall, if possible.

4. Wrap tin foil around the trunk of your tree - Dogs don't like to brush against tin foil. Wrapping foil around your tree is an effective way to dissuade your pets from gnawing on or playing with the trunk.

5. Make your tree's water container inaccessible - Don't allow pets to drink from your tree's water container. Stagnant tree water is a breeding ground for dangerous bacteria that can harm pets if ingested. Use a receptacle that can be covered. If you can't locate a proper cover, simply hide the basin underneath the tree skirt.

6. Use a short extension cord - Pets love to play with long and tangled electrical wires, so opt to use a short extension cord with little slack when assembling your Christmas décor. Another smart tip is to tape wires down to the floor or against the wall to prevent pets from playing with loose and moveable sections. If possible, you should also hide all cord ends and sockets from your pets.

7. Get an automatic shut-off extension - Consider using electrical cords that automatically shut off once they are damaged. This feature will help keep your pets
safe from electrocution, should they start playing with and exposing live wires.

8. Turn off the power when you leave the house - Don't forget to turn off the power and close off your holiday-decorated rooms when you leave your home or go to
bed. This guarantees your trees and ornaments will stay safe even when you're not around.

I saw this heartwarming story online and wanted to share it about a dog owner who loved his dog who was terminal with cancer. He wanted to spend some time with his special dog as Mura only had months to live. What an emotional and precious feeling that someone would love their dog enough to do this for them.

Paul Heroux found out that his 10-year-old Japanese wolf dog had just months to live, he set out on a man-and-his-dog road-trip that crisscrossed North America and included a stop on Vancouver Island to visit the place where Mura was born. Man and his terminally ill dog go on road trip special visit to Vancouver Island

Mura was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma, an aggressive form of blood cancer, in September and by October, the pair was on the road. Massachusetts mayor travels to victoria during cross country journey with dying dog

Paul hasn't been apart from his dog since he got Mura as a puppy. “It sounds corny but we were instantly attached,” he said of their first meeting. “She paired with me immediately.”

Mura would accompany her owner, who also happens to be the mayor of Attleboro, on door-to-door campaign visits, trips to seniors homes and to the state capital. She would dutifully walk by his side during parades and countless public engagements.

“She’s my family, I take her everywhere I go,” Heroux said.

Most people that love their dogs prefer to have company with their dog rather than

other people. One of the main reasons is that dogs are part of our family. Almost all dogs

have these special qualities in common. This is why dogs are very special.

Dogs are always referred to as "man's best friend." Even man is not "man's best friend."

No bond can compare to that of a person and their dog.

Dogs are selfless, extremely loyal, and lovable. There is an innocence about them. They aren't

acting out their own agenda to see what they can get from you.

When deciding between dogs and humans, there really isn’t much of a debate about who is kinder, more loving, and more fun to be around. Our Walk in the Park

My husband and I were walking our little dog Buddy at one of the big city parks. We enjoy this park as it has a mini zoo in it, lots of trails, paths, and areas of interest to see. The park has an off leash dog area for the dogs to run. Lots of dogs are always in this off-leash dog park section.

While we were walking back to our car a white truck was parked there with a cover on the back of the truck. I could see one, two, three, then four large dogs. It looked like several breeds. All of them were dark dogs. I noticed one breed was a Doberman pincher. The man was hooking up a leash on each dog one by one as we passed by.

A man walked by him and said “Four Dogs! What are the dogs used for? The owner said, “They’re working dogs!” Wow, I thought, why would an owner bring four big working dogs to run in an off leash park section with non-working domestic dogs? Most house dogs are domestic dogs of a gentle nature. Dogs that are working dogs are trained to be more aggressive!

I watched him take those dogs out of the truck, open the gate to the off leash dog area so I knew that he was going in. I thought, “Wow, are our dogs are risk?” What do you think? Do you wish your small domestic dog running in an area where working dogs are running too? After seeing this I decided to write an article on Off-Leash Dog Parks.

When we adopted Buddy our little Brussels Griffon/Shitzu the Dog Pound worker was concerned about our dog being exposed to Pitbull’s, etc. in the place we lived. She worried about Buddy’s safety. This seems no different to me than her concerns for our dog.

Off Leash Dog Parks

Dog parks are supposed to be fun–but often they’re not. They’re a play heaven for our furry friends, right? Well, not really. Parks for dogs are one of those places that seem like a brilliant idea — and would be, if we all knew how to behave. But we don’t.

Going to the dog park has become something dog owners think they almost have to do.

Our society has gone from thinking dog play is fun to thinking dog play is vital. Not all dogs are suited to this kind of play.

If yours seems to be having a good time, you need to watch closely and keep connected with your dog. Unfortunately, dogs do get injured and sometimes even killed in dog park fights.

Halloween is a fun holiday filled with treats and costumes, but pets see things differently. Dogs are very good at interpreting human behaviour. At Halloween time we act a lot differently than any other time of the year which maybe confusing for your dog.

We leave pumpkins around, scary props, etc. It must be interesting for Fido to see.

Dressing up our dogs – Halloween is becoming increasingly common – and that’s really bad news for dogs. Some dogs don’t want the costumes on. Dogs do have feelings and try to hide if they don’t like something. We need to respect them if they don’t want to get dressed up no matter how cute they look.

“Pets typically don’t like costumes with elastic on top of the head or around the neck.” Instead, choose an easy-on, easy-off outfit that doesn’t constrict their head and neck. There are other Halloween pet safety considerations when it comes to costumes, like the material and whether it will cause your dog to overheat.

Sometimes just putting a Halloween themed sweater, bandanna, collar or leash on the dog would look good and may not upset the dog too much.

For humans’ bowel evacuation is straightforward but for animals especially our dogs pooing in nature has some very elaborate instructions.

Doggy Business

Dogs seem to do their business wherever they feel like it, sometimes in very embarrassing places. Dog owners have observed some odd behaviours among their pets, sniffing and wandering, spinning and digging, sniffing butts, eating garbage, giving unconditional love, but this one habit has escaped our attention ever wonder why dogs need to get themselves into the right position to poo? I wondered this very question too!

Dogs don’t need a compass as they use the Earth's magnetic fields to align their bowel and bladder movements. They prefer to squat then poo along the north-south direction when the magnetic field is stable. If the magnetic field is unstable they will not. Dogs are well known for their excellent sense of smell and their keen sense of hearing. Studies have shown why dogs keep spinning around to avoid an east-west axis when they poo. He may not be doing this just to bug you like us owners sometimes question, “Why in the heck is he doing this?” There maybe a perfectly good explanation for his behaviour and here it is.

Dogs’ pooing and urinating fulfills both a physiological purpose and a social one as well. Where ever the dog expels his bodily waste; they are depositing piles of really interesting information on the ground.

The location can depend on the type of message that your dog wants to send or answer. Leaving their feces and other scent markings (urine, paw scratches) along the perimeter of their territories sends a message to other animals, etc. to stay out! Your dog searches out and leaves these messages too. These messages can tell your dog how many other dogs are in the area, the sexual status of the dogs, whether it is a female dog in heat or whether a male. The dog can tell whether the dog is a friend or an enemy, what the dog had for lunch, and when they were last in the area.

It takes time for your dog to do his business. The dog seems to prefer softer locations. If they can smell urine or feces they’re attracted to go back to the same area.

Dog's Arthritis - What is it?

Dog's Arthritis involves inflammation of one or more joints. This can cause pain and stiffness.

Osteoarthritis - a degenerative joint disease - is the most common form in dogs. It is due to wear and tear or joint injuries which causes pain and inflammation in the joints.

Hip Dysplasia and ligament problems can also cause dog's arthritis.

Which dogs are affected?

Dog's Arthritis is more common in older dogs and obese dogs. Excessive weight puts additional strain on the painful joints of the dogs so correct the dog's diet and avoid obesity in your dog. Large breed dogs are susceptible like Labradors and retrievers but all dogs can get arthritis. As all dogs age this problem may get worse over time. Dog's arthritis may appear after a bumping or straining of a joint.

Common signs of dog's arthritis:

Limping- You may see your dog limping or favouring a leg depending on which leg or joints are arthritic.

Difficulty or slow in getting up - the dog may find it difficult to get into and out of the car and going up and down the stairs.

Spinal Issues - Can occur in various parts of the spine or legs. There could be lameness in one or both hind legs. Abnormal posture with a hunch back.

Tiredness - The dog may tire easily so that he walks shorter distances and it is more painful for your dog. The dog may sleep or rest more.

Irritable - The dog may snap or bite when handled if they're in more pain.

Muscle Wastage - The dog uses their muscles less because of the arthritis causing atrophy so the muscles in their legs will look thinner than a normal dog's leg.

Licking, Chewing & Biting - The dog may lick, chew or bite the body areas that are more painful which can cause inflamed skin and hair loss at that area.

Swelling and thickening - of the structures of the joint.

Stiffness - all over.

Mobility - Is less which also means that the dogs may soil themselves (urine, feces or both). Clean them as soiling can cause a 2nd bacterial urinary tract infection. Also make sure that they can get to their food and water bowels near their bed and easy for them to reach.

Gait - Abnormal including inability to walk, knuckling, limb incoordination, lameness, unsteadiness, painful walking, limping while walking, arching of the back, staggering, favouring a side and showing signs of weakness.

Dog Dry Skin

Dog dry skin is really itchy and uncomfortable for your dog. It is hard for us too but we are able to go and put some cream on our skin and feel much better but our dogs aren't able to do that. There are ways that we can give our dogs relief.

There are reasons why your dog's skin could be dry so let's talk about some of them:

Lack of nutrients in their diet

Dry climate or forced air heating - this is a big one here in a cold country as we have a furnace on all winter to keep us warm.

Under-grooming.

Wrong shampoos for bathing the dog - My little guy had some fleas so I bathed him in dish soap that I read online Dawn would help get rid of his fleas which the dish soap did help the only thing was that it was drying on little Buddy's skin.
