This new version has a whole new look and feel, along with some great new features that make it well worth the upgrade. These are some features that make you want to download it

- A whole new look for your contact list. Keep it in detail view to see larger Avatar images for your friends, or switch to compact list view (in the Contacts menu). Plus, you can just hover and click to IM, SMS or call a friend.

- Brand new skins and emoticons! Click the dot near the top of your Messenger window to choose a skin, and check the emoticon menu for the new ones that were inspired by user entries in our Emoticontest earlier this year (more on our winners in a future post).

- New Flickr integration in the photo sharing feature. Easily share photos from your Flickr.com account, or save photos shared with you directly to Flickr.

- A new in-line media player that makes it easy to view maps, photos and videos from sites like Yahoo! Video and YouTube right in the IM window. No plug-ins needed, no extra downloads — it’s built right in. Just send a video, map or photo link to another friend who’s also on 9.0 to try it out.

- New features for voice calls. You can have your incoming Phone In or free PC calls forwarded to another number like your mobile, home or office phone, even if you’re signed out of Messenger (Phone Out account required). Plus there’s a new way to get voicemail. When someone leaves you a voicemail in Messenger, an email is sent to you with an MP3 of the voice message attached.

Earlier this week some GMail users reported seeing links to a "newer version" in their accounts and now Google has officially detailed the changes, though they still might not show up in your account for a little while.

Among the changes are speed boosts, a new contacts app that will also show up in other Google apps and a new rich text editor like the one found in Groups and Page Creator. You also might notice that there's some new keyboard shortcuts. Most of the keyboard shortcuts were previously available with the Gmail Macro Greasemonkey scripts (or through the Better GMail extension which we've reviewed before), but now even users without Greasemonkey can use the shortcuts.

For now the changes will be limited to Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 7 users, though Google will be adding additional browser support as time goes on.

Also worth noting is that it appears GTalk may soon support multiple protocols. Those that have the new features enabled in their accounts report that the Address Book now offers drop down menus to choose what chat networks your contacts are using. Although the GMail blog post doesn't mention it, the rumor is that GTalk will soon be leveraging Jabber Transports to allow multi-protocol chats within GTalk and Gmail.

The bad news is that many of your favorite add-ons may not work with the new version of GMail. The GMail Blog post says that the GMail team has sent out details of the changes to developers of popular add-ons, but for the time being many, including the catch-all Better GMail add-on for Firefox, don't work with the new version.

Google Apps for Your Domain is a software bundle aimed at small and mid size businesses. Google Apps lets you offer email, instant messaging, and calendar accounts on your own domain name (for example, you@yourdomain. com), to keep your group close and build its online identity. So here is the detailed guide on how to set up and configure Google Apps for your domain.

Google Apps has different versions like small business, enterprise, educational and family or group. Iâ€™m going to explain how to configure the standard version which is completely free of cost. The premier version is available for a limited 30 day trial.

Once you sign up for Google Apps, you will be taken to the registration page, where you need to enter your domain name or get a domain name for you.

After you complete the sign up process you will get a confirmation mail and after that you can login to your cPanel (the url of the cPanel would be available in the mail). Once you log into your cPanel, you can configure all your user accounts, mails, docs, calenders etc.

The service dashboard (cPanel) has the following options:

Before I explain each of these settings, lets first configure our domain settings. You can find a navigational link named â€œDomain Settingsâ€œ, this will show you the domain settings. You can give a title for your organization, select the language, time zone and add custom logo. The header logo will be available in all the screens of Google Apps. Even you can also create a custom logo.

Once you have added your logo, save the changes.

1. Start Page: Start page is the page which allows your users to access Google services and other information from a single place. The URL of the start page can be customized to point to your domain. For this you need to create a CNAME record in your domain and point it to Google. Once this is done, your users can access the start page with custom URL like start.mydomain. com where start is the new CNAME created for your domain.

The start page can be customized using the page editor. Here you can change the look and style of the start page. Here you can select a layout, change colors for text and links, add a header and footer and also add content. Once you have made the changes, publish the content and all your users will be able to login from the URL.

2. Email Accounts: The advantage of using Email address with Google Apps is that you can create unlimited number of Email accounts with your domain which has 2GB storage space and all the features of Gmail, including POP3 access. For using this you need to change the Mail Exchange (MX) settings in your domain. It should be configured to point to Google. Detailed steps on how to change MX settings is available when you activate the mail service. To access the mail, you can either use

Complete Guide to Using Google Apps-2

In the first part of Google Apps Guide, I had written about the steps to configure domain, mail settings and also the start page including adding a custom logo. In this post Iâ€™ll be discussing on how to use chat, calender, docs, spreadsheets and also how to create web pages.

1. Chat settings: All the users added to the domain can use Google Talk. Users can automatically chat with other Google Apps and Gmail user. To let users chat outside the Google network, you will need to edit your Service (SRV) records in domain settings. The process on how to change this is mentioned here. There is no configuration needed in Google Apps to use the GTalk.

2. Calenders: Calender setting also allows you to change the login or access URL to calender.yourdomain .com by adding a CNAME. You need to key in the sharing option for calenders within your domain and outside your domain.

By default, calendars are not shared outside this domain for security reasons. The calender allows your to create events and add guests to the events. The reminder is sent in the form of a pop-up or email.

3. Web pages: Basic setting of Web page allows you to change the access URL of your page with a custom one. The link â€œEdit your Web pagesâ€ will take you to Google Page Creator. On the left side of page creator, you have the option to change the font, color, add link, images etc.

The two links on the right hand side allows you to change the layout and the theme of the page. Layout has one sidebar, 2 sidebar and without sidebar options. There are around 40 in-build themes to chose from and you can customize the look of the page.

Once you are done with the changes, publish the page and it will be available on the web. You can create any number of pages you need.

4. Docs and Spreadsheets : Docs & Spreadsheets can be shared outside the domain or can be made more secure by making it accessible only inside the domain.

Apart from this you can also have a custom URL with your domain name configured for using Docs & Spreadsheets.

Google Apps has a premium version where you can have 10GB per email account without any advertisements and a 24/7 support. The premium version is based on the number of users and each user costs $50 per year.
