In the age of Big Data, such data centers have become indispensable forms of infrastructure and represent strategic challenges for governments.

Cloudscene currently lists more than 11,700 data centers as being operational worldwide. But where are they located? According to the site, the United States dominates the market with 5,427 data centers listed there as of May 2026, accounting for 46 percent of the global total. It is followed by Germany (529), the United Kingdom (523), China (449) and Canada (337). With 155 data centers listed as of May, India ranks 14th worldwide.
It originated during the American Civil War when citizens placed flowers on the graves of those who had been killed in battle.

More than a half dozen places have claimed to be the birthplace of the holiday. In October 1864, for instance, three women in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, are said to have decorated the graves of loved ones who died during the Civil War; they then returned in July 1865 accompanied by many of their fellow citizens for a more general commemoration. A large observance, primarily involving African Americans, took place in May 1865 in Charleston, South Carolina. Columbus, Mississippi, held a formal observance for both Union and Confederate dead in 1866.

By congressional proclamation in 1966, Waterloo, New York, was cited as the birthplace, also in 1866, of the observance. In 1868 John A. Logan, the commander in chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans, promoted a national holiday on May 30 “for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion.”

After World War I, as the day came to be observed in honor of those who had died in all U.S. wars, its name changed from Decoration Day to Memorial Day. Since 1971 Memorial Day has been observed on the last Monday in May. A number of Southern states also observe a separate day to honor the Confederate dead. Memorial Day is observed with the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, and by religious services, parades, and speeches nationwide. Flags, insignia, and flowers are placed on the graves of veterans in local cemeteries. The day has also come to signal the beginning of summer in the United States. ~ From Britannica Academic: Memorial Day
Great photos aren’t about having the newest camera or app—they’re about seeing light, composition, and moments clearly. Classic photography books teach the fundamentals that still shape the strongest images today, whether you’re using a DSLR or your phone. These lessons are still taught in photography courses because they build creative confidence and lasting skills. Best of all, you can check these influential books out from the library.
During National Nurses Week (May 6-12), we invite our nursing students to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the deeper meaning of their calling with one of these eBooks available through COM library.. Self‑Care for New and Student Nurses highlights the importance of caring for yourself, while The Heart’s Truth explores the emotional strength behind nursing work. Witches, Midwives & Nurses provides perspective on the profession’s powerful history, and A Nurse on the Edge of the Desert reminds us how deeply nurses impact lives around the world. These reads are an easy way to slow down and reflect on why nursing matters—now and always.
Although the battle itself represented only a temporary setback for the French, the Mexicans' victory against overwhelming odds gave them the confidence they needed to persevere until finally triumphing on April 2, 1867.

The anniversary of this event is celebrated not only in Mexico but in many American communities with large Mexican-American populations—especially in the southwestern states of Texas, Arizona, and southern California. The events include parades, patriotic speeches, bullfights, barbecues, and beauty contests. Olvera Street in Los Angeles is particularly known for its Cinco de Mayo celebration. ~ from CREDO Cultural Studies: Holidays Around the World
