Iran Says It Has Produced a Nuclear Fuel Rod

TEHRAN (AP) — Iranian scientists have produced their first nuclear fuel rod, Iran’s nuclear agency said Sunday, another step despite United Nations sanctions and measures by the United States and others to stop the nation’s atomic work and shut down any possible pathways to weapons production.
Iran has long said it is forced to seek a way to manufacture the fuel rods on its own, since the sanctions ban it from buying them on foreign markets. Nuclear fuel rods are tubes containing pellets of enriched uranium that provide fuel for reactors.
Iran’s atomic energy agency’s Web site said the domestically made fuel rod had already been inserted into the core of Tehran’s research nuclear reactor, but the claim could not be verified.
The United States and some of its European allies accuse Iran of using its nuclear program as a cover to develop atomic weapons. Iran denies the charge, saying the program is for peaceful purposes only and is geared toward generating electricity and producing medical radioisotopes to treat cancer patients.
The United Nations has imposed four rounds of sanctions on Iran over its refusal to halt uranium enrichment, a process that can lead to making a nuclear weapon. Separately, the United States and the European Union have imposed their own tough economic and financial penalties.
On Sunday, Iran’s Navy said that it had test-fired a medium-range surface-to-air missile during a drill in international waters near the strategic Strait of Hormuz — the passageway for a significant portion of the world’s oil supply. The drill, which could bring Iranian ships into proximity with United States Navy vessels in the area, drew attention after Iranian officials threatened to close the strait, cutting off oil exports, if the West imposed sanctions on Iran’s oil shipments.
But Iranian military officials later backed off from the threat, saying they had no intention of doing so now.
“We won’t disrupt traffic through the Strait of Hormuz,” Rear Adm. Mahmoud Mousavi said Sunday, according to the semiofficial ISNA news agency. “We are not after this.”

Monkey stolen from California zoo found safe

Banana-Sam, who was stolen from the San Francisco Zoo, was found Saturday safe, but hungry, officials said.

(CNN) -- Banana-Sam, a much-loved squirrel-monkey stolen from his enclosure at the San Francisco Zoo, has been safely returned, officials said.
The monkey was found Saturday night -- a day after he disappeared from the zoo -- at a park by a passer-by who spotted the primate in the bushes, the San Francisco Police Department said in a statement.
The passer-by coaxed the monkey from the bushes into his backpack, and then called the authorities, according to the statement.
Police officers brought the monkey to the zoo, where officials determined it was the missing primate.
"Although hungry, trembling and thirsty, Banana-Sam is currently safe back," the zoo said in a statement.
Zoo workers discovered the theft Friday morning, when they found a back perimeter gate had been breached and two holes cut in the mesh fence of the squirrel monkey exhibit.
The male monkey, known as Banana-Sam to his keepers, is age 17, over 12 inches tall and weighs about 2 lbs. Corrine MacDonald, the curator of primates and carnivores, told CNN affiliate KGO earlier Saturday that squirrel monkeys can live into their 20s, saying his relatively advanced age could put him at more risk.
Banana Sam' keepers warned the public that while he looks very cute, he is not a pet -- and can deliver a nasty nip. The curator said such monkeys carry diseases and can cause serious infections if they bite a human.
The monkey needs a specialized diet to stay healthy, the zoo says.
What motivated the thieves to swipe the monkey is not clear. Common squirrel monkeys are not endangered, and they can be found at pet trade markets -- with such sales illegal in California, the zoo says -- or medical research institutions.
MacDonald said the zoo's other squirrel monkeys were visibly shaken by Banana-Sam's apparent capture. She said the decision was made to pull them off the exhibit due to concerns about the integrity of the exhibit and that a "copy-cat" could try to take other monkeys.
It was not immediately known when the zoo planned to reopen the exhibit.
An unknown person was quick to set up a fake Twitter account in Banana-Sam's name, following in the path of a cobra that escaped at New York's Bronx Zoo in March. The snake's mock Twitter account, with humorous tweets on its supposed whereabouts in New York City, swiftly attracted a large online following.
Under the handle @SF_BananaSam, the "monkey" is now tweeting his way round San Francisco.
"Went to monkey bars in Golden Gate Park playground, left disappointed. #nobananadaiquiri" one post reads.
Another says: "I'm a funny-looking vegan who ran away from home and who people follow on Twitter. IN other words, A NORMAL SAN FRANCISCAN."

Gloria Taylor has Lou Gehrig's disease, a rapidly progressive, invariably fatal neurological affliction.

"It is my life and my body and it should be my choice as to when and how I die," she said before going to the British Columbia Supreme Court last Thursday to challenge Canada's ban on assisted suicide, a crime carrying a sentence of up to 14 years in prison.

Qaddafi died of wounds suffered during his capture near his hometown of Sirte on Thursday, Reuters and Sky New reported. Libyan leaders have informed the United States that Qaddafi is dead, according to an unidentified U.S. official who said Libya's Nation Transitional Council (NTC) is expected to officially announce his death soon. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the U.S. could independently confirm Qaddafi's death.

Well, I know in my absence I have lost quite a number of viewers. I am gonna have to get to working hard to get them back. It was not that I was just ignoring you guys. I was going through some tough times and a lot of pressure. It sure took it's toll over me during the summer. yak...Anyway, I am gonna re delicate my time, when I have it. I just wish the great giant Google would pay for for adsense. It would be nice to get paid a little bit more and a little bit more often, I admit. But I truly like to post stories. I try to catch all types of material, such as art, murder, violence, new album releases, deaths. some things that happened to go right in our country for once, movies. Some things should be moved to my Tech-site, but to be honest, I may just shut it down and concentrate on this one. I will just add stories on news for us Techn0-Nerds. I have a few movies to watch, "Colombiana", and "Captain America." I think I will just chill at the computer for now. Well, as always PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT MY BLOG! Jobs had been suffering from various health issues following the seven-year anniversary of his surgery for a rare form of pancreatic cancer in August 2004. Apple announced in January that he would be taking an indeterminate medical leave of absence. Jobs then stepped down as chief executive in late August, citing his inability to "meet my duties and expectations" stemming from his illness.

In a statement, Apple said paid tribute to its one-time leader as " a visionary and creative genius" adding that the world had "lost an amazing human being."

Wow! Hey guys, I haven't posted in forever. Been really busy. So I get on today and see these wonderful new Blogger Changes! I am liking them so far. They seem kind of exciting to me. It's gonna take some getting used to, but I should get the hang of it shortly. Wow, I see you can schedule your posts and add your location. Probably won't use the location option too often because I do 99.9% of my writing at home. I really love the new templates as well. A Bay of Plenty truck driver "blew up like a football" after a freak accident where compressed air was forced into his body through his left buttock.

Steven McCormack was standing on the plate between the cab of his truck and semi-trailer at Waiotahi Contractors on Saturday when his foot slipped.

As he fell, he broke the hose off a brass nipple connected to the compressed air reservoir powering the truck’s brakes, and the nipple pierced the flesh of his left buttock.

As the air, compressed to 100 pounds per square inch, rushed into Mr McCormack’s body he said he felt like he was diving and had the bends.

Medical Marijuana From Sea to Shining Sea? A Lawsuit Wants to Force Feds to Say Yes to Pot

Marijuana advocates filed a suit in a U.S. Circuit Court today to force the Obama administration to answer a petition that seeks to have the federal government recognize cannabis as a drug with acceptable medical uses.

The suit wants the court to order the administration to answer the original request within 60 days. This after nine years of stalling on the matter, according to California NORML, which is party to Monday's suit.

If the coalition of pro-pot organizations is successful, marijuana would be taken out of the federal Schedule I category -- the group of outlaw drugs with no legitimate uses, to which cocaine doesn't even belong -- and, presumably, made available as a medicine from coast-to-cost. Wishful thinking?

According to a statement, the Coalition for Rescheduling Cannabis says the administration (first Bush's, now Obama's) never responded to its 2002 petition to reschedule marijuana, "despite a formal recommendation in 2006 from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the final arbiter in the rescheduling process."

The case has been going on so long that one of the patients named as a plaintiff has died, according to the coalition.

Its sad to see that many brainwashed people believe that catastrophic events are occurring because of the belief of the upcoming 2012 impending doom or recreation date. They will listen to nut-job authors of books making a killing from the ignorance of people. Yet, when a credible scientist shows proof that otherwise doesn't parallel with a quacked out wanna-be scientist with a high school chemistry class 101 credit under his belt they run and cry conspiracy. Get a clue, way to make these scare tactic losers rich.

I've heard some pretty crazy stories from 2012 believers. One such person thinks that the rich and powerful people of the world know all about the events that are going to take place and are trying their best to cover it up. If that being the case why are the rich and powerful planning investments, businesses, venues, and the like for dates after December 21, 2012. Who is going to be able to contribute to these events if everyone is gone. This person also believes that the rich and powerful are planning a trip to the space station to hide out while things go chaotic on Earth. According to said person, this is the real reason the space stations were created. Not for scientific research to better man kind, but more like a club house for the rich.

I consider myself a fairly rational and logical thinker, and it is just so odd to me to listen to some of the irrational and illogical thought of what I call a "crazy person." Just my thoughts. Feel free to blast me or praise me in the comments. Have a great day!

Pa. woman to stand trial for pot-laced margarine

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania woman will stand trial on charges she fed marijuana-laced margarine to a 12-year-old girl she was baby-sitting, as well as two other children at her home.

The 12-year-old's mother called Upper Burrell Township police after discovering the drugs in a tub of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter in 22-year-old Stevie Hickey's freezer. The woman tells police Hickey spread the substance on two pieces of toast that Hickey gave to the girl.

Police say Hickey told the girl it was "parsley butter" but later acknowledged to police that it was marijuana.
The Valley News Dispatch in Tarentum reports Hickey remains free after waiving her right to a preliminary hearing on marijuana possession and child endangerment charges May 10.
Her home phone is disconnected.

Destructive Tornadoes Rip Through Central U.S.

MINNEAPOLIS – JOPLIN, Mo. -- A massive tornado blasted its way across southwestern Missouri on Sunday, flattening several blocks of homes and businesses, smashing up cars and leaving an untold number of people dead.

The storm that swept through Joplin left behind piles of brick and wood where homes and schools once stood. Cars were ripped apart and thrown on top of each other. A wrecked helicopter lay on its side in front of a damaged hospital. All that was left on one hillside was bare trees, stripped of their leaves and branches. The devastation was reminiscent of Tuscaloosa, Ala., last month, when a flurry of twisters killed more than 300 people across the South.

Missouri authorities said they could confirm that people had died in Joplin, but the numbers were unknown late Sunday and police said they had stopped the search overnight. Details about the number of fatalities and injuries were difficult to obtain even for emergency management officials, because the tornado knocked out power, landline phones and some cellphone towers, said Greg Hickman, assistant emergency management director in Newton County.
